To who it may concern, first I want to apologize to the owner of the boutique for my poor review. The store is immaculate, well designed, products are fabulous, I would give 4+ stars for that. I have been there twice and purchased products. However the grown mature lady is very rude. She had the worst attitude both times I came in the store. I tried to give her a compliment with how beautiful the store looked. She was not keen on my compliment...almost felt she was either racist, always in a bad mood, or just was not raised with good work ethic to be hospitable to customers. I am hesitant to come back as she makes me tense wanting to leave the store immediately after seeing the wonderful products. To the owner of the boutique please talk to her about her attitude perhaps when you are not around. I know one thing, the sales lady with a french accent in your sister store Sundry was phenomenal. I love Margaret O'Leary. Her cashmere sweaters are the best you can buy and come in wonderful styles and colors. In addition to cashmere sweaters, the store carries a wonderful selection of clothing from other brands such as IRO, J. Brand and Hartford. In addition, they have a great selection of jewelry. I love the store and would shop here all the time if it weren't for the horrible sales staff. I have never encountered such rude, horrible saleswomen. They all have major attitudes and treat you like you don't belong in the store no matter what you're wearing or how many times you have shopped in the store. My sister was visiting from out of state over Easter and had the same experience. The service is TERRIBLE and makes you never want to shop there again. You would be best to shop at the store on Fillmore street in San Francisco or another location where the sales people are more pleasant and helpful. The Mill Valley store has awful customer service, and I've worked in retail and was shocked just how bad it is, and always has been, in this store. read more

I have been a costumer for years and am usually happy with quality and style. I just went into the Mill Valley store to return a pair of pants which ripped after light wear of a month. The sales person was hostile and said I had to pay $25 for the repair. I would expect better costumer service. I did not do anything to these pants. Will buy my sweaters in a different store. Bad shopping experience. This sales person should not work in this store unless Margaret is fine with costumers being treated rude and never want to come back despite loving her clothes. read more

No matter how I'm dressed (sometimes I don't exactly look like Mill Valley clientele!), the adorable salespeople always ask if they can help me find anything or at least tell me genuinely to have a nice day on my way out. Prices are generally out of my budget. (Boy, I wish I even had a clothing budget!) The 5 stars is for this gorgeous little boutique & for their annual sidewalk sale (typically the Saturday of Memorial Weekend). During this sale, not only did I buy a few things, but they were nearly 80% off their retail prices. This shop has lots of fun brands, but it really all comes down to Margaret. No sweater is like a Margaret O'Leary sweater. The quality of the knit, the softness, that signature little inscribed shell tag... they truly are magical. I got a sweater dress for $50. 5 star all around. The service in this store is top notch. Why? Because from start to finish Kelly and all the associates we encountered were kind, genuine, personable and friendly. I specifically traveled to this store while on my honeymoon in the San Francisco area. I previously visited the MO store near Bleecker street in Nyc. This is how you should be treated when buying frivolous high end clothing. Why frivolous? Because no one needs a $600 sweater. Why high end? Because the quality of the product is phenomenal. I was trying on a cardigan and looking to choose between several colors. One of the colors wasn't in stock so one of the girls quickly checked if they'd be receiving more. We were both offered water or Guinness. When I came back to purchase my sweater, I was given the same treatment. I was told how to care for my sweater, given a sweater comb for free, told I could send it in for de pilling at the end of the season free of charge as well, my item was wrapped nicely. Margaret O'Leary doesn't really offer discounts but on your birthday (the day I bought my sweater) I was given 20% off. Score! All three ladies wished us a pleasant stay in the Bay Area and a happy birthday to me. Being a retail manager myself, I know it's not easy to connect with customers day in and day out and that's what made this shopping trip even more special. read more

I have been shopping at the Mill Valley Margaret O'Leary for years. It finally occurred to me it might be a little bit of a secret, and if I know about something good, I want everyone to know! So here you go, people. First a warning: Once you get a taste of Margaret's cashmere, you will never go back to regular department store stuff. Fall and winter bring the most luscious, San Francisco-perfect, cozy, foggy-weather sweaters you could ever imagine. Thanks to MO, I'm also spoiled for pockets. What point is a delicious, thick cashmere sweater without a cozy place for your hands? Fortunately, Margaret has that all dialed in. In addition to the Margaret O'Leary brand of sweaters (her claim to fame), she carries her own line of non-sweatery things, like beautiful silk and linen tees, knit skirts and dresses, fabulous printed pants, cashmere sweatpants, and even leather jackets. You'll also find a nice selection of other brands, including AG Jeans, Velvet tees, MIH, NDC and Fiorentini and Baker for boots, and Calleen Cordero for bags, belts and shoes, Chan Luu scarves, and beautiful jewelry from local designers. These clothes and accessories are hip and fun, stylish and classic. Sweaters might be an investment, but they're worth it. I wear mine for years. But what really sets this store apart are the ladies who work there. What a bunch of lovely people. You will always feel helped but never pressured. If you want help putting together an entire outfit, you got it. If you want to browse, you got it. If you shop there regularly, like I do, these nice ladies will show you what's new with specific suggestions to match your style and shape. Always helpful, never pushy. If you're looking for a gift for a lady in your life, they're great at that too. My husband goes in there because he knows I like EVERYTHING, so it's a no-brainer. The other day was sunny so I stopped into this store and it was a great shopping experience. I try to shop local so I like this store or Mint in Mill Valley since the people are always friendly and helpful. I am budget minded right now and so I don't buy as much but when I do I buy quality and fun pieces found only at places like this. It's more fun then going to a Mall like The Village in Corte Madera. My sales lady with a pony tail and reddish hair has helped me find things that fit my budget and style. I was in this shop lat 10:30am on Valentines Day 2011 (no customers/monday morning) and was literally chased out by the salesperson (seen her there bfore in dziner doo-rags)-everytime I touched anything she asked with attitude if I needed help. She was behind me constantly & obsessively folding items. (?) Finally I was at a sweater shelf and then she made her final crack, "I don't mind if you want to look at things, but that's why they are all hanging on this rack". A hidden gem. At first glance, Margaret's designs appear to be well made classics. But after putting them on, I realized not only are they more flattering on but extraordinarily comfy. They have become the first pieces I grab from my closet. And as someone who travels alot, these pieces are great travel companions. Beautiful sweaters beautifully made and the staff are so welcoming and helpful. It pays off too. I go in to look a lot and they really don't seem to mind. I return later to buy if something sticks in my mind-I try not to impulse shop too much. Located in downtown Mill Valley,this is a great upscale boutique store. They have a good selection of stylish clothes, shoes (great boots) and other neat accessories. Everyone who works there is friendly and helpful. I especially like the the manager, Dawn Young. She is friendly, patient and so helpful in finding the pieces for my style.. I also love that she shows different ways to put the great piece of basic clothing with different accessories to make different looks with the one basic piece.
