I was there with a small group of friends on a weekend. We were really disappointed. The food was mediocre and there was no space. Everyone was really crammed into a small area. While the service and drinks were very good, I wish the food tasted better. They had some decent entertainment. At the end, we had a special guest join us near our table. It was a bug crawling on the wall at eye level. The waiter seemed really grossed out. I am posting this now but dinner happened precovid. This weekend, my wife and I headed to Margarita's Cafe with my dad per his positive recommendation and other terrific reviews of this restaurant. Having bookmarked this place previously, I was excited to finally give it a shot. Between the food, the service and the ambiance/entertainment, I was overall very pleased and would certainly venture back here again. When we sat down (after a brief wait on a Saturday evening), we had chips and salsa brought to the table and had our drink orders taken. Given the great reviews of the sangria, we decided to order a pitcher of red sangria for the table. We also ordered some fresh guacamole, made to order right at our table. Although they only made a small amount of guacamole, I was really impressed with the taste and quality. The person making the guacamole for us even scrapped an avocado (after cutting it open) deciding it didn't look right and made the guacamole with a fresher avocado. Now that's commitment to quality! The chips and salsa were also of good quality. For entrees, my wife ordered the fish tacos and my Dad ordered the chicken enchiladas while I ordered the chicken fajitas. My dad and wife both really enjoyed their meals, and I particularly enjoyed the chicken fajitas! The chicken was marinated just right and came out juicy (hard to find good fajitas like that). They also came with plentiful sides (rice, beans, queso, guacamole, sour cream, lettuce and tomatoes) and flour tortillas. I only could eat half the meal before getting full, at which point I took the rest to go. Throughout the meal, our friendly waitress visited our table often to check on us and ask if there was anything we needed. She also frequently refilled our waters (I drink a lot of water and yet my glass never reached empty). Also throughout the meal, a mariachi duo made their way around the restaurant taking requests from each table (we heard la cucaracha, de colores, and many other mariachi classics). Crowded Mexican restaurant with tight seating that serves okay food. What I ordered was not very special, but I do recommend the refried beans. We were seated in a very tight area right next to people and it was extremely uncomfortable as the waiters were passing by having to squeeze through. Definitely think they should consider changing the layout. The food is pretty average and not really special. The restaurants gets pretty loud and the service is okay. Yummy food and margaritas? Count me in. Came here the first time for a friends birthday for dinner this past Friday and really enjoyed it. I had a raspberry margarita, which was delicious, and we split the sampler to start. It only came with 2 of each item on it, but it ended up being just the right amount for our group of 4. The nachos and jalapeno poppers were both very good, and I would solely get those if I return. For dinner, I had the combonation where you pick any of the 3 listed items. I had a quesadilla, enchilada, and chimichanga. This was perfect for me as I was indecisive about which of the 3 to get! I wish more places did this. It comes with rice and beans as well. The dinner itself was excellent. It was a HUGE serving as well, and there was no way for me to finish it. The enchilada was the star of the show in my eyes. The only real "complaint" I have about this place is how tight the seating is. I was on top of the woman behind me, and there was no where for me to put my purse or jacket. The wife and I have been coming to this spot since it opened and have always left happy. The staff is warm and welcoming, esp resident bartender Mel, who always knows what to make us :). I started a vegan diet while the wife is pretty carnivorous. The guacamole is amazing, and it's impossible to stop eating the complimentary nachos and salsa. The only issue my wife had was a slightly bitter red sauce and the manager was quick to resolve the issue, and even tasted the sauce in the back and immediately went out of his way to take care of us. The restaurant is small and gets crowded quickly on a Saturday night. Hubby and I got there around 6:30 pm and were seated right away (we got lucky) and a few minutes later all the tables were occupied. The live music was a nice touch. Wait staff very attentive even though it was clearly busy. We had classic margaritas, perfectly made. The food is basic Mexican, nothing special but still tasty. Dinner for two with drinks was $60. It's in a residential area with lots of street parking, even if you have to walk a few blocks, the neighborhood is beautiful. read more

Food is bad. We sent back the empanadas because they smelled and tasted sour. The Kitchen is overwhelmed and, to add insult to injury, we had to wait close to an hour for more crap food: one patron actually got fed up enough about the wait that she got up and starting yelling at the manager. They got their food within minutes but ahead of the table next to us who had arrived at least 20 minutes earlier than the complainers and so were ready to just leave. The chicken fajitas were less than mediocre and the chicken was old from the freezer. The beef tamales were dry. Refried beans were like sludge. So disappointing on a Sunday night. Little did we know Tuesday's are $3 margaritas (I think we made a good choice) they were really good and potent! There was an energy in the restaurant especially at the bar....I wonder why. The food was very good. We ordered the fajita. It was a bit slow getting out of the kitchen (which meant more tequila) but I'll chalk it up as growing pains of a new restaurant. We'd never been to this restaurant but wanted something different. We called ahead to find out if there was outside seating and they said yes. What they didn't tell us that the seating was on the busy sidewalk, directly in front of the restaurant, completely unenclosed. The inside of the restaurant has a low ceiling and is very enclosed so that was not an option for us in these difficult times. My back was two feet from a parked car on a busy street. Passers-by walked on the sidewalk literally one foot from me. People in line were chattering a few feet away. I overheard that Hector was running late for their party. The worst part was the music that was blaring from their speakers. I asked twice that the music be lowered, and despite the waiter's apology, it never was. So I had to strain throughout the meal to hear what was being said. Not much fun. At least they accidentally brought an extra batch of chips & salsa. I had to ask for napkins and utensils. Food was ok, nothing great, nothing terrible. They have a big menu so there are lots of options. Wish I could write a more favorable review. I'd give 2-1/2 stars if I could. read more

My boyfriend and I came here for date night 2 weeks ago and the food was amazing! The service was great and the place was such a fun live place! They had a live singers and one of the guys sang despacito and it was so good! The nachos were amazing! I ordered the pollo aguacate and that was so good and the chicken was just right. Came here on a Monday afternoon and I must say, very nice place ! The decor is very pretty and authentic. Friendly staff, welcoming atmosphere, and great service :) Makes a good place to have a date. The music is good as well. My mom and I were given free chips and salsa before our meal, which was a nice offer. We ordered the Burrito Mojado with rice and beans on the side, and the Tostones Rellenos. They were both very delicious ! Tasty sauces and everything was packed was flavor. Great portions and I felt satisfied with everything. For dessert we ordered the Tres Leches Cake- AMAZING !! I will definitely be back for more of that lol. TERRIBLE-ZERO STARS. The Food, and service TERRIBLE. Food was salty, and our soup was served COLD. Very Rude Waitress and "manager". never checked-in to see if everything was okay. Waitress was distracted and got our drink order wrong, instead of what we ordered she served a more expensive drink, without our knowledge. When we saw the error on the bill , we inquired about the charge. The waitress and the "manager" (wears a suit) were very defensive, rude and implied it was our fault. My husband and I loved this place at first. In the past 2 years, more so now, the service is horrible. We waited almost 45 minutes for our food with only 4 other tables with people. The music is so loud the waitress couldn't hear our daughters order which came out wrong. When we finally got our food, the server knocked over my water right into my food. My friends and I came here for dinner on Cinco de Mayo. Since they don't take reservations there was a wait when we arrived, but we put our name down and as soon as there was a table available for us the host came out and sat us. Once we sat our waiter, Ernesto, came and brought us waters. He was very pleasant and helpful to us throughout our meal. We ordered some guacamole to start and it came out before we ordered the rest of our food. They made it table side and we got it spicy, it was very tasty. There was a couple of musicians going around playing music and they came to our table and played for us. They was wonderful and I enjoyed it a lot. After we ordered our food, we got the combo appetizer plate, the beef enchiladas, and the burrito mojado. All of these dishes came out at the same time. The appetizer plate was very good, I especially enjoyed the jalapeño poppers so I would definitely recommend those if you did not want to get the whole patter because it was quite large. The enchiladas were ok, I enjoyed the steak filling but the cheese and sauce on top was kind of disappointing. The burrito was pretty good. Once we were satisfied from all that food our waiter cleared our plates and we decided to look at the dessert menu for a bit. We ended up choosing to get the Mexican Pudding at the recommendation of our waiter, I liked it a lot. It wasn't overly sweet but had a lot of flavor. Overall my experience here was very nice! I think it is the worst seafood paella I ever had. I was craving for paella so I ordered since this restaurant is the closest to where I live that deliver. I have to say the packaging was nice and neat. So I was excited to try and hungry. When I took the first bite , I thought I didn't mix the rice evenly. So I mixed it again and gave it another bite. I still can't believe it so I asked my fiancé to try it. He said it's very salty. Not just salty but it's very salty even I mixed all the rice and seafood. It's literally salt on the rice. Im not the type that throw away food, but the paella is really salty and We can't eat it. Seriously, $30 something in the trash. We have to order Mcdonald. I was suggested here by a friend's mom, and I was really disappointed by my most recent visit. My friends and I had a reservation booked for 8:30PM, and was told on the phone that when you come in, you may have a wait up to 15 minutes in which we thought that's normal and fine.....we got seated at 9:45PM. We had a suspicion that the restaurant forgot to call us while we waited in our car, and then further solidified that was the case when we walked back to the restaurant to see what's going and found someone who was waiting outside to get in, who told us he had no reservation, having dinner at a table. That was really annoying to see, but if that's the case, what's the point of a reservation? Someone inside apologized after we decided we'll just wait at the door in fear of being forgotten again in the car, but the apology came after he overheard us calling around other restaurants and their wait times, we were starving! We're finally sat down to eat, but hesitant on just walking out because of how frustrating this was, but when you're hungry like that, you make poor decisions. There is very little social distancing in this VERY cramped up restaurant. I understand businesses are struggling during the times we're in, but for us to be bumping into tables and saying excuse me as we get seated all the way in the back is inexcusable, there is no space whatsoever for the amount of people they let dine in at one time. We get put in the corner at this very small table right next to the mariachi band playing with the speakers blasting next to us, but at this point it is what it is, we just need food. The food was alright, nothing amazing, but their margaritas were really good. If anything, I'd expect the margaritas to be good, and they delivered on that at least. All in all, if their customer service were much better, this review would be way different. read more

I really love Margarita's and have been to the east meadow and Woodbury locations several times. I was happy to hear when one was opening in New Hyde Park! Very good service, very good food (as always)! I ordered the lobster quesadilla which was delicious! The PR punch was also awesome -with a coconut flavor but not overly sweet (definitely recommend it if you are a pinacolada fan- kind of the cocktail version of one). The onlyyyyyy disadvantage over the other locations is that the tables are cramped because it is a small space. For two people on a Saturday night around 730 we did not have to wait but the place was totally packed! We were in a corner booth and the guests at the table next to us were way too close for comfort. The wait staff had a difficult time even bringing out our dishes which was awkward. Based on that experience I would recommend maybe visiting on a week night or not as crowded time when the restaurant is not filled to capacity. read more

What a cute small spot. The food is delicious and I honestly don't have any complaints. We went with a group of five and we started off with La familia appetizer. More than enough if you have five people- if you have more maybe might need another plate depending on how hungry you are. The appetizer comes with nachos, jalapeño poppers, sausage, and two rolls but I can not remember what they are. For dinner we ordered a fajita combo which comes with steak, chicken, and shrimp. The plate comes fresh and steaming hot with three fajitas. It also has the sides of lettuce, pico de Gallo, sour cream, refried brown pinto beans, and guacamole. Everything tastes fresh and it adds flavor! Then we also had the skirt steak which comes with a side of avacado, salad, and black beans. Everyone just about finished their plate and the plates are pretty big. The staff was great. If you have a birthday not only do you get to wear a oversized sombrero, you get sung to, a desert, and if your looking for an extra surprise a nice mouth full of tequila. If you don't drink I do suggest telling your waiter before hand so there isn't any confusion! Overall a great visit and we will be back again to try something new. read more

In the past I have liked this place but I was very underwhelmed and annoyed this time. I ordered nachos and in the comments ask for a pint of salsa because we like a lot of salsa. I didn't know the order would already come with chips but either way there was no option to just order salsa. When it came there were two tremendous bags of chips and the tiniest little cups of salsa. I would say a few tablespoons in each. So we ate a few chips and the salsa was gone and now two huge bags of chips are going in the garbage. It cost me $60 for two meals to be annoyed. Also the food wasn't as good as in the past. And the wait was over an hour. There was multiple people who was also there who made reservations that day and they told them the same thing that they aren't taking reservations. I went here this last Sunday for my work holiday party; it was 9 of us. They set up a long table and sat us towards the front of the entrance. The restaurant is beautiful but unfortunately, that's where it stops. The service was so painfully slow; this was a three hour ordeal. We got there at 4pm and it wasn't that crowded. A few employees were helping our table but each person was slower than the other. The food. I ordered shrimp fajitas. Let me just say this was the saddest fajitas I ever seen. My shrimp was overcooked and BLACK. My red and green peppers were BLACK and digusting. The "fixings" that it came with was a pathetic tablespoon of guacamole and sour cream. No chopped tomato or anything appealing. I couldn't send it back because I was with my boss and co workers so I sucked it up and ate the gross shrimp. It took the staff 35 MINUTES to make 3 cups of coffee and bring out a birthday cake. No cake knife either to cut the damn cake and we continously had to flag down people for forks and drink refills. Charging us for a club soda is pretty sad in my opinion. I will never be going back to this place. read more
