Our first visit recently exceeded expectations on all counts. We were warmly greeted and escorted to a table. We were promptly offered water, chips and very good, clearly homemade and fresh salsa. House Margaritas were half price and it was very good! Our server was very friendly and very professional (Manuel). My Pork Chile Verde was exceptionally tender and flavorful. The sides of rice and beans were pretty standard but the pico de gallo that garnished my plate was also exceptionally fresh, with notes of jalapeño and lime. My husband tried the Birria Tacos which were also excellent. It had been a while since I came to Margaritas Mexican Cantina, but 4 of us decided to go there on a Saturday night. I was really in the mood for a good Margarita- we got a pitcher that 3 of us split of the Cadillac margaritas, a slight upgrade from the house version. They were excellent! We enjoyed a couple of bowls of chips and salsa too. I ordered the Enchiladas Supreme- 4 enchiladas- beef, chicken, cheese and bean- topped with pico de gallo, lettuce and cheese. My wife got the fajitas. We both enjoyed the dinners. Atmosphere was pretty typical for a Mexican restaurant- plenty of colorful booths and wall hangings and Mexican mariachi music playing. They have many choices of flavored margaritas and more tequila choices than I can drink! We all enjoyed ourselves and will be back. FYI : on Mondays they have 1/2 priced margaritas! read more

Since moving here I have been wanting to check out Margaritas and tonight and got the chance! And I am happy I did. We walked in and it was bright and lively. The host directed us to the bar to order our food to go. Brenda was helpful in placing our orders. We watched her make margaritas that looked delicious and promised ourselves that we would treat ourselves next time to them. We had fajitas and birria tacos that hit the spot. You walk into this place and think wow this is exactly where I want to be. The atmosphere is great. Service is great. The food is just lackluster. Its quite pricey as well for vegetarian/vegan options to just get bean or mushroom tacos for the same price as meat or seafood options. I called ahead to reserve a table once seated I was welcomed to being told that I must leave a 20% tip to the waitress. I'd be surprised by the low reviews of this place if the most common recommendation for Mexican food around here wasn't a place I hate. Lol. It really does come down to what you prefer. Margaritas' salsa isn't great, to be fair. But we love everything else we get there, including the margaritas and the sangria. Hubbo has a new favorite dish: choripollo, which is a chicken breast covered in chorizo slathered in a cheese sauce. Service is always great though it can be slower when they're really busy. The server was nice. The atmosphere is what you would want for a Mexican restaurant. They have plenty of drinks to choose from. The food for me wasn't the best. I got the La Bandera plate. The green sauce on the enchiladas was sour to me & the ground beef wasn't seasoned very well & dry. The rest of the plate was ok, the chicken was good & the cheese enchilada was the best one. Haven't been out In over 2 months - Finally done sun out so I came here to relax and for a bite to eat. Apparently the bartenders change out at 4:00 - So I was rushed so she could get her tip - I really wasn't hungry but still ordered meal - was so-so. The part that ruined it was the bartender asking as I was forking food into my mouth if I was finished .. came around several times to "look" to see if I was finished - since nobody else was seated at the bar I think it was pretty clear I was still eating and able to view afar - like either leave me alone and clearly let me digest my food in peace or go home and ask the next shift if she will hold your tip. I'm surprised by some of the 1-star reviews of Margaritas. I've been there twice recently and had a good experience both times. They have the standard Mexican fare offered at restaurants around here, as well as a page of soups and salads, lots of appetizer choices, and vegetarian and vegan sections. The free chips and salsa are tasty. Salsa is somewhere between mild and medium. Service was friendly both times I went. My friend and I hung out at our table forever, and nobody made us feel like we had to rush out. If you order the guacamole azteca, they roll over a little cart and make it in front of you. It's very chunky and a huge portion (two whole avocados). It isn't mashed up like the smoother guac some restaurants serve, but good flavor with lots of salt, pepper, and cilantro. Big enough to share with a group. Don't get too excited about the blood orange margarita on the spring drinks menu, they didn't have the ingredients for it twice that I tried to order. I did have a classic lime margarita on the rocks and enjoyed it. My husband had one of the combo meals and did not care for the refried beans that came with his meal and said they tasted like peanuts. I didn't get that flavor at all and thorougly enjoyed my El Vegetariano. Possible heads up for allergy people though. I'll be back to try other dishes - maybe even a blood orange margarita! read more

So, I walked in to Margaritas on this fine Thursday evening with high hopes and a massive appetite. My sister and her girlfriend frequent this joint and I was rather excited to have a night of delectable Mexican cuisine. It's important to note that we walked in at 7:30 this evening...and left at 9:30. YIKES, am I right? We put our order in immediately with our server, Natasha. The food came out fast (and was delicious) and the margarita flights were divine! We were done eating rather quickly, just gabbing as girls do at a Mexican restaurant with alcohol flowing. I am not joking when I say we waited an eternity for our bill just to find out that gratuity had been added. THERE WERE THREE OF US?! AND WE WALKED IN PROMPTLY AT 7:30? After some investigative work from my colleague, we found out that they add gratuity no matter the party size, two hours from closing. UGH NATASHA! How rare to find a Mexican restaurant with a dedicated vegan/vegetarian section to their menu! I had the potato & spinach enchiladas which came with a cold salad of lettuce, pico, & guacamole on top. I wish that part would have been room temperature because it took away from the rest of the dish. But otherwise it was delicious!! The complimentary salsa & chips were yummy. Our experience at Margaritas inside matched the dreariness of the weather outside. At first, the decor and fiesta-ness seemed to set a nice vibe, but that's were it ended. The menu is a huge card of hundreds of items in what appears to be 8 or 9 point font with minimal spacing. Even those of us who don't need reading glasses were using our phones to magnify the text just to read it. My mother ordered chicken enchiladas, add mushrooms. All she got was mushrooms and cheese, no chicken. That had to be remade. The other three of us ordered a variety of meals that all had the same qualities in common: cold, stale, rubbery, flavorless... It honestly felt like we were being served 2 or 3 day old leftovers reheated in a microwave. Overall, very disappointed. Oh yeah, as we discussed alternative restaurants that were better, the server chimes in to agree with what we were saying and even recommended a few more!!! read more

Came in the second week after they opened! The wait was predicted to be an hour, we waited 45! We stopped and got a margarita at the bar while we waited! The chips and salsa were delicious! Chips were served warm, and the salsa tasted fresh, perfect amount of heat to it. We ordered the steak sizzling fajita, and it was fantastic! Tortillas were hot and fresh, I recommend ordering 3 extra for 1.25. We had plenty to bring home leftover. We also ordered the quesadilla roja, chicken. It was very good. We also had leftovers to bring home! Dinner came to $70 ish dollars after 3 margaritas. Definitely worth the price for how much food we received and all the drinks we had! The size of the entree portions are good and the price is reasonable. Service is very good. The tortilla chips were good, but the sauce that came with it was bland. I had the Chicken Enchiladas con mole. The presentation on the plate was very good, but I expected more flavor. The chicken was bland. I do have a serious issue with how they calculate the tip. It should be based on the subtotal only. Why would anyone include the tax in the tip is beyond me. You are in effect paying a tax upon a tax. In any event, you can (as I did) override the choice presented and calculate the tip (20%) based on the subtotal amount only. read more

Ordered chicken fajitas at $22. A little pricey but you get a heaping platter. The problem is you get three 4 inch tortillas which is absolutely ridiculous. I had to ask for more twice. Took 9 tortillas to make a real meal. The problem is they charge you an extra $3 for extra tortillas. How cheap can you be..? There seems to be or has been a rebranding of sorts and it's not a great one. What was once a place to get great authentic Mexican food is now just another gimmick. Some of their most flavorful and spiciest dishes are now bland and texturally unsatisfying. When a New Mexican restaurant opened up in Greece I was excited to try it out. Went for lunch with a friend and we're told it would be about a 20 minute wait for a table. We were the only ones waiting, went to the bar for a drink. They were very under staffed. Bartender was nice but told us it would be a wait to get a drink, took 15 minutes to get a drink. On the positive note was their house lime margarita on the rocks was really good. We finally got a table and immediately was given chips and salsa. Salsa was ok, nothing fancy. However we ended up eating the whole thing before we even placed our order.... They actually brought us more. For my main course I went with their enchiladas. Love me some corn tortillas drizzled in sauce and cheese. They were average tasting, nothing really wrong with them but missing the wow factor. They say on their menu it's authentic plates...not sure. I did like their tequila sign, it may not be the answer but it's worth a shot. Hopefully they get more staff. read more

SO FAR my favorite Mexican spot in Rochester for several reasons. One, the food. Probably the most authentic I've found so far .. AND they have several vegan options. I ordered their vegan fajitas and it was so filling and delicious but the guac couldve been better. I lived in Mexico for two months and I am determined to find the best Mexican food outside of Mexico here in Rochester. Also the best margaritas ! This place had delicious margs ! Two, the staff. They were super friendly and attentive. Our waiter was awesome ! And three, the ambiance. I loved the way they decorated the place. It felt cozy even tho it was busy. Hostess seated us right away, great ambiance, server arrived promptly, helped us with menu, and took our order. Menu is varied, lots of choices, drinks, chips and salsa arrived quickly. Food was fresh, hot, and came out really quick. Prices are ok, there is an automatic gratuity added, so no need to figure out tip. It's typical TexMex so no surprises with food, but honestly, although the food was good, I was more impressed with the cool decor! This was our second attempt to dine here. The first time was on a Tuesday a few months ago, and the wait was over an hour. This time was a Monday, and there was no wait at 6pm. The waitress came right over and I was still waiting for my friend to arrive. I got a water and waited, and she came back to take drink orders and food orders. The service was good. However, I ordered the vegan Flautas de Papa, and they had no guacamole. HOW does a Mexican restaurant not have guacamole!?!?! She said their avocados were too green. So don't you go buy some?? Anyway... I asked for sour cream instead, which I got. I also asked for double rice and no refried beans. I just hate refried beans. Well, that didn't happen. I did get a drink in a pineapple! I got a peach margarita. I wanted it on the rocks, but she recommend I get it frozen because the pineapples leak. It was fine. I did notice the shot on the top. Nothing special really, but I do love pretty drinks. :) My friend said hers was fine. Didn't really rave or rant about anything. So I'd say a 3 overall is pretty accurate. Nothing fantastic. I've seen a lot of 3 or lower star reviews due to service, however, our service was great! Maybe may bf and I came at a great time? We went on a Tuesday afternoon, around 2pm. Our server was a gentleman who I did not get his name, however, he was great and checked in on us frequently. This restaurant was beautiful! I love all of the traditional decor. As soon as we were seated, our server greeted us and got us chips and salsa right away. My bf had a skinny margarita which was very tasty! The restaurant opened in August and we have been wanting to try sense it's opening. We went on a Thursday night. Luckily we got there around 5:30 and didn't have to wait even though the restaurant was pretty full. It has a very lively and bright decor. I know others had mentioned that the music was too loud. This night it wasn't, just lightly playing in the background. Chips and salsa came out just as we were sitting. Chips were warm and not greasy, which I have found in some others offering chips and salsa. The salsa was fresh tasting. I don't like celontro which is in most authentic salsas. I did have a few, but asked for a little mole and the waitress brought it right out. . I had the Texas Margarita, which was very good to me. I don't regularly drink margaritas, but tasted very boozy and tart. Her beer came out right away, but my margarita took some time. Our server was very attentive. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time. We had the Flautas Dinner, which was three rolled corn tortillas filled with shredded beef or shredded chicken. Guac and sour cream on a bed of lettuce. With a side of refried beans and Mexican rice. Overall it tasted great. The flauta without the guac or sour cream was a little dry. Beans were in good as well as the rice. My wife had the fajitas with with chicken with the sides as well. It comes smothered in their red sauce. Large portion and she said it was good. Overall the experience and food was good. I wouldn't call myself a connoisseur of Mexican food, so someone who is might cratique differently. We never felt rushed. I got the dos amigos and specifically asked for the guacamole to be on the side because I have a food allergy and my boyfriend was going to eat, the server said it is separate. Order arrives the guacamole is MIXED in with ALL my sides (salsa, sour cream and all) She still insisted it is separate. I then get charged $1.50 for a side of sour cream when my dish comes with sour cream and it was not quite my fault that it was mixed in after I specifically asked that it not be. Choripollo was the other dish we got, more onions than chorizo My rice was really really hard and it came with a very thin layer of rice... Wife's Birthday was Monday so she wanted a nice dinner. She chose margaritas which I was excited about. Food was good and hot service was pretty good. Our table was kinda dirty but they actually sat us at the wrong table. Wasn't a big deal. Wipe it down and move on. Ordered the sizzling steak fajitas for two. Was amazing and a lot of food. Also ordered tacos which were also amazing. The margaritas we ordered were very nice. Ordered frozen which was kind of a mistake because you can drink them faster when they are "on the rocks" I highly recommend making a reservation if you can. There's not motivation for the servers to be prompt, quick or efficient because 20% is automatically added to the bill if $50 or more. At today's restaurant costs, 2 people easily reach a $50 bill. My wife and I walked in around 4 pm on a Tuesday afternoon and immediately seated. Not many diners due to the day and time. After 10 minutes, waitress came to our table with water and told us she'd be back with tortilla chips. 5 more minutes with chips. Told us she'd be right back to take our order. 5 more minutes then took our order. She later stopped by and asked if we wanted more tortilla chips. Didn't get the chips. Went today at 2pm, and there was a line out the door. Absolutely ridiculous. Either the food is THAT good, or bored people are excited about a new place to try. I assume the latter. I was told 45 minutes, but judging by the line and other reviews, it would be much longer. I'll update this when I can actually get a seat. Now my 2nd try, and the wait is an hour. Okay so today was my 3rd attempt. Got a seat right away, which was surprising. Tried to order the Tour of Mexico. Asked if there was onions in anything (allergy). Waitress didn't know and had to go ask. Came back and said all of the meats are made with onions in them. I asked if they could make mine without onions. She again had to go ask. The answer was no. This leads me to believe that nothing is really being made fresh in this place. You can't make a beef taco from scratch and not include onions? You don't know how to make anything involving chicken without onions? STRANGE. I won't be back. Menu prices were high compared to other places, and it took about 45 minutes to get our food. We heard about this place from a friend. They don't do reservations but we thought that was fine we'd come get on the list and run to a shop during what they described as a 20-30 minute wait. At time of writing this review I've been waiting to be seated an hour and 50 minutes. We keep asking when we will be seated and they keep telling us 10-20 minutes. I understand when things are running slowly but be honest and upfront about it. At this point it's too late to go anywhere else and I'm at their mercy. The party in front of just left after they gave away a table they said 2-3 more minutes for. **Update** After 2 hours spent waiting, I have been seated, I am one step closer to no longer being hungry. I've been waiting on a drink for 20 minutes, however, the waitress ensures me that the bartender has went to grab it and "hopes are high" I will keep you updated as they hunt for my chimichanga in the coming hours. 30 minutes later, the beverage I ordered has run away. And they are in pursuit of finding a different flavor. My beverage had almost made it, but met a tragic end, shattered on the floor 5 feet away. ***Update*** The entree and appetizers came out at the same time, made completely wrong, I had to go to the bartender and ask for a drink, took about 30 seconds, good service at the bar, horrible service at the table. This was the worst carnitas I've ever had. I refused to eat this. Im Latino and this was an insult to my culture & heritage. More "cactus" green peppers than pork. The pork was extremely pink. Serving pork this pink is dangerous. The drinks were great and the atmosphere was was very relaxing. But if you're expecting an authentic Mexican experience you will not get that.
