Margaritas is my go to Mexican place in this area. Each time, I have tried something new and have enjoyed each and every item. I highly recommend the sopes and bistek dishes. Both of very flavorful and large portions. The frozen margaritas are a real treat as well. I have only indulged once but it was very memorable and I suspect it will be a regular indulgence going forward. The Yelp check in offer is a sweet deal. Margaritas shares the street with other businesses including a restaurant, boutique, flower shop, the cleaners and a grocery store. After I was seated the waiter takes my order, then brings out a small bowl of chicken noodle soup which was sooo good! It jad a small piece of zucchini and carrots which only enhanced the flavors. I ordered the burrito dinner. The burrito is huge, my choice of meat (chicken) was well seasoned and moist. It was also topped with guacamole and sour cream over a bed of melted cheese. I ordered guacamole for an appetizer due to the free appetizer you receive for checking in the first time. Its made fresh in front of you and offers such a side of goodness. My only complaint is that while I would order the burrito again, I would order it with the lettuce on the side as opposed to inside which is how it came. Other than that, this place is a winner. I've been going here for over 20 years -since it Was part of the Lalo's restaurant group.I stopped eating in house during COVID but started eating in house again about 6-9 months ago. It is as good as before. It is more expensive, but all restaurants are. What I really appreciate is that Margaritas is following COVID protocols in spacing tables and staff wearing masks. I hope that the owners of Margarita's will take this review to heart and consider making a few changes. I have been going to Margarita's for years. The wait staff and cozy ambiance are stellar. The Tex-Mex menu is very good from their soup to their tacos to their seafood. However, let's be real: many customers also go for a margarita. And herein lies the problem. Their traditional margaritas are not good. They are overpriced and watery, and as I stated, too pricey. At $19 for a medium, top-shelf tequila should be the norm. There are other Mexican restaurants in the area that have better quality margaritas for several dollars less. I have known several former customers who no longer go to Maragrita's simply because of their poor quality traditional margarita. Could this be why they are now closed on Mondays? Loss of customers? To the owners: I love your restaurant but have not gone as regularly as I have in the past. Step up your margarita to the quality you once had, and Ill be back. read more

All the dishes are bland, they seem to be afraid of frightening people with spice, when this place was lalo's they must have took the recipes with them, Great service but the food cancels that out. Very disappointing. I had fish tacos. They had generous portions of muddy tasting tilapia with no savory sauce. They were accompanied by white rice with a few vegetables mixed in for color. Bland. I could not finish the three tacos given their copious amount of fish. But neither did they compel me to try. My wife had shrimp fajitas. Bland. Shrimp with onions and peppers. No sauce or interest beyond the simple ingredients. The shrimp seemed fresh and good in itself. But the meal was unimaginative. The corn chips were warm and fresh. I found this place in Oak Park, and I thought let me stop in and grab some enchiladas. So as I enter and go to the back to place my order to go. There were servers around and no one acknowledged me, I had to ask for a menu. First bad sign. So I asked if they servered beef enchiladas, because I did not see it on the menu. The server said yes, so that is what I ordered. The server repeated my order back to me and all was good. I paid for my food and got home to eat, and it was not beef enchiladas, but chicken. This most recent visit we dropped in on a Wednesday for an early dinner. Parking was tight in the neighborhood but we found a spot about a half block away. It was cold outside and cold inside too. Possibly they lowered the heat during non-peak dining time or they just have an inefficient heating system. We opted out of some margaritas or other alcoholic drinks for this visit because it was too early in the day, but we've tried them before and are average. They serve Coke brand soft drinks for $2.50 with free refills. Service was fine. Between the host, waiter, and bus boy we never needed to flag someone down and the table was cleaned of dishes as soon as they were empty. We choose two dishes off the menu. The Margarita's sizzling skillet was prominently pictured on the menu and sounded delicious so that was what I ordered. $17.95 for my super dry and overcooked chicken and steak was far too expensive. There was also some cold beans and Spanish rice in separate bowls. A shrimp kabob (three small shrimp) wrapped in bacon was properly cooked and had good flavor. The mushrooms and sliced onions on the skillet were a bit overcooked but still had good flavor. There was also a healthy piece of queso cheese triangle that added some flavor to the dish. We also ordered the Enchiladas Rojas de Queso. Best way to describe this dish is cold and flavorless. We may return to try the $8.95 lunch buffet but otherwise this place isn't going to remain high on our list. read more

I have been here a few times. Beyond a doubt the best time to go is at night. For some reason it's a much better experience. Be sure to be at Ellie's table. She is awesome! We shared a combination plate and all the food was delicious, steak, chicken, and many other wonderful items including rice and beans. The piña colada is the best ever! Cute atmosphere. I've been hearing about this place so me and my friend decided to check it out. Went on a Thursday. Wasn't busy really so for seated right away. Fairly fast service and friendly staff. The margaritas are good. I like how you can mix the flavors. The complimentary soup was delicious. Normal chips and salsa, nothing spectacular but tasty. The food came quickly. We ordered the taco dinner. The tacos were packed with goodness. Lol I was only able to eat one as I was full from the soup, chips and drink. Lol The steak was tender and seasoned well. Ahh FoodZees, Margaritas at 804 s Oak Park Ave in Oak Park. Nice quaint atmosphere, romantic lighting. Wait staff very pleasant and hospitable. We started with a peach margarita for Glenda and a melon mojito for me, very refreshing. Sampler platter to start, tamales, quesadillas, taquitos, smooth guacamole. Glenda had soup, chucked full of chicken, corn and many other vegetables. The broth had great flavor sweet and hardy. I went with a a steak dish, the carne was very tender and seasoned perfectly, along with the steak was 4 shrimp wrapped with bacon, WOW it was phenomenal. We all had a great time. I was getting all stressed out trying to plan a funeral dinner. Everyone wanted an exact number which was impossible to do. If to low not enough food or seating ,to high spending money for food no one will eat. I went to Margaritas and they assured me not to worry about the count , up or down they can adjust. I asked for 60 we had 70 with no problems. We had everyone order what ever they wanted from the regular dinner menu, appetizers, entrees, drinks, and desserts. The margaritas are great, try as many as you can. Lets not forget the staff, friendly and conscientious. With all this delicious food and drinks from the bar it was still cheaper per person than any of the basic luncheon options I found with out drinks of any kind. Lalo's is very mediocre Mexican food with a decent atmosphere. After purchasing a certificate on Restaurant.com, I figured I would finally give this Oak Park restaurant a shot. I did not try the margarita's on this lunch visit, which tends to be the most enjoyed menu item. The guacamole appetizer came with fresh chips and a large serving of guacamole in a fried tortilla bowl (like a taco salad). The guacamole was chunky and visible homemade, but the flavor was very bland. It certainly needed more garlic and lime. For my entree, I went simple by ordering the chicken burrito. It was ok, just nothing special. It came with a slightly melted slice of cheese and dollops of guacamole and sour cream on top. Overall, the Lalo's seems like it has the potential to be much better. This is a cute restaurant located about 35 min outside of Chicago. They have a good atmosphere but the food is mediocre. We got guacamole made table side but it was very bland and basic tasting, I would have appreciated some onions garlic or any spices in it.
