My friends and I from work recently started a book club and needed a meeting spot. Wanting to check this place out for awhile, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to do so. The book: We Ride Upon Sticks by Quan Barry I knew from the start that the menu was limited to smaller plates but was disappointed to find a sign on the door when we arrived that the oven was broken. This eliminated practically all of the items we were interested in trying, including the baked ricotta and chorizo croquettes. Additionally, someone came over to our table to let us know they were short staffed so we would have to go to the bar to order drinks and food. Given the situation, we settled on the large charcuterie and cheese board as well as several of their cocktails. I thought the charcuterie included a nice variety and really enjoyed my Royal Cup (a play on Pimm's Cup). My friend also ordered their seasonal mocktail that was so meticulously crafted it would have induced even the tipsiest into sober curiosity. The Parting Shot as my second drink (a pear-forward take on a French 75), however, was a little underwhelming if not generously portioned and, I probably would have done better with their house champagne cocktail. In terms of location, you'd be hard pressed to find a better place for a book club or cozy conversation. I've been wanting to check out Margaux since it opened and I'm so glad I finally did! My friend and I came in the morning to get some work done and we were able to find seating very easily. I really liked the vibe of the place and the inside of the restaurant was so aesthetically pleasing. I ordered an iced caramel latte and avocado toast for breakfast. I loved the flavors of the avocado toast, I would highly recommend trying it out! The only thing that was slightly frustrating was that my friend and I both were unable to connect to the public wifi which made it difficult for us to get work done but we just ended up using our hotspots. Overall though, I love the concept of Margaux- it's basically a coffee shop during the day and cocktail bar at night. I definitely want to come back again to try out their cocktails! read more

The food was delicious but the ambiance was even better. From the floor-to-ceiling windows, to the large plants, to the pastels throughout the eatery, the environment was stunning. My sweet potato hash was quite unique--I had never had anything like it. The sweet and the savory blended perfectly. The mocha wasn't too sweet, and was very rich. We ordered a seasonal hot apple cider as well, but it came in a mug with remnant lipstick marks, so we sent it back and got a clean mug again. Other than that, no complaints! The establishment has wonderful ambiance and drinks. The food are delicious, albeit a bit of lighter fare. However, one major downside is that one should NEVER open a tab there. They don't double check whose tab is whose or who is signing for that tab. When one person in my 5-person group offered to pay for others' drinks, Marguax charged everyone's drinks to one tab (i.e. my tab) without verifying whose tab it was. They then also had the wrong person close out that tab and, therefore, agree to the charges. This charge even included drinks others paid for via cash or their own credit cards, which has caused double billing/charging to occur. Additionally, this occurred even when I only directly used my card or provided my name for my tab when I went up to the bar to order. When my friend offered to put a number of his drinks on his own tab, he was sitting down away from the bar. During that time, the waitress neither verified his name or his card information. I neither provided my name nor card information. In spite of that, they charged my card and even had the wrong person close out the tab for it. When confronted with this, Margaux just told me to get it sorted with my own group even though they made the errors, including not verifying whose tab they put the drinks and who was the correct person to sign out of that tab. EDIT: Eventually, the wrongful charge was refunded to my card. read more

Oh my gosh, I absolutely loved this place. Right away, you notice the interior decor, which was gorgeous, bold, and inviting. Felt very trendy yet very comfortable. There is a cafe and a bar here. I ordered a matcha latte and quiche of the day (red peppers, mushrooms, garlic, and mozzarella), which came with a side salad. The matcha latte was fine. What blew me away was the food, though. The quiche was really delicious and didn't feel heavy at all. The side salad actually stood out as the star to me, though, it was surprisingly incredible. I came here with the intention of getting some work done, so after I ordered, I set myself up at a countertop in the seating area, although there were plenty of other seating options with outlets nearby. There were many other people in the restaurant working/studying like me, but also some who were catching up over drinks at the bar or friends chatting over coffee in the seating area. An out of town friend staying with us for a night offered to pickup breakfast, and this was the spot he chose. I can confirm they make delicious avocado toast and iced coffee! He seemed to enjoy his breakfast sandwich also. I see they have a delightful array of small bites and cocktails in the evenings, so I'll report back when I'm able to try more of the menu. To me it's reminiscent of Allegheny Wine Mixer (a longtime favorite) in that the focus is on gathering for quality beverages and a curated selection of food as opposed to the entire establishment being geared towards a kitchen pushing out gigantic meals. Pittsburgh needs more places like this, and I hope Margaux continues to thrive in our neighborhood. read more

What a gem! Margaux is a beautifully designed, airy space with a high ceiling and huge windows. There are various types of seating...vignettes of sofas and comfy upholstered chairs, dining tables and a bar. When the weather is warm there are sidewalk tables & chairs. The food is wonderful! Open faced smoked salmon toast, avocado toast, baked ricotta toast with blueberries on a choice of breads. Breakfast sandwiches, pastries, salads and full entrees. Ordered the breakfast sandwich very dissatisfied with the low quality ingredients (cold lunchmeat ham) and the extremely small portion for the high price. Some people may not know better or it might be the closest option, but if you want a better breakfast sandwich for the same price range with nicer staff and warmer atmosphere you're better off going to Mediterra or Speckled Egg. I've been here a few times and overall it's OK. The first time I went, it was my friends birthday and we both had food allergies. They took all of our orders but we had to wait close to an hour to get our food because they forgot out entire groups order. When I asked the server about food allergies she said she didn't know the ingredients. She asked the kitchen staff but got back to us saying they didn't know what was in the recipes. We were also told that the avocado toast didn't have nuts but there were literally nut chunks in it. Probably the most outrageous thing they told us was that people with food allergies shouldn't come here as they don't know what's in their food. The other times I've been, each time we've had orders gone missing, such as drink orders never making it to us but still on the bill. They have a pretty limited menu and it's not too special. Drinks are more unique but again I think the lacking service is pretty disappointing. Prices are also a bit much considering how simple the food is. read more
