Large Chai Tea Latte with Honey
    Anne B.

The coffee shop vibe is alive and well! Independent Café with full menu of delicious coffees, espresso, and tea drinks. But the pastry! They make and bake a myriad of beautiful goods right on site! I'm enjoying this large chai tea latte. When I ordered, the kind gent offered honey or vanilla! The honey for the win! As soon as I have room, I'm getting some food, possibly to go! The location is super convenient, as named, right on the bus line. With crazy mocha gone and Starbucks down this street, it gets very busy during peak times, even just before 11, as I would imagine students are heading to classes. It's a nice calm pretty spacious place with plenty of 2 top tables, wifi, and several accessible outlets!

round 2: gets a little loud but such a cute vibey date place. holding hands with the most beautiful girl in the world, drinking our coffee in very pretty tall mugs, i couldn't ask for anything more in life. this moment was very very very happy and i love my girlfriend so so much.

Wonderful cafe in squirrel hill perfect for a drink on the go or a space to get work done. There is plenty of seating both inside and outside on the patio. The tables are arranged for two people per table but there was lots of availability even when I went on a busy Saturday. There were also several outlets in case you needed to charge your devices. The menu had lots of drink options including smoothies, coffee, and teas. There was also more food options than I expected! They had pastries, cookies, bagels, scones, and more. The staff was very friendly and made nice small talk while I was ordering my drink. The drink came out quickly tasted wonderful. I got the cappuccino mocha which was sweet and had lots of foam. Overall a great cafe in squirrel hill!

I can't believe I haven't been in here before after so many years of living here! I always thought it was a restaurant but it actually is a cafe. They have a large menu of drinks. I had a chai latte with oat milk and my partner had an espresso drink. He said it was ok. I think my chai latte was ok too, nothing to write home about. It was overly milky and there wasn't a strong chai flavor. It's cute and rustic inside here and is a good place to have a chat or do some work during the day. I'm not quite sure if they have food though. Service was fine but it seemed like only one person worked here.

We only grabbed a quick coffee to go, but the space was very cute and I appreciated the outdoor patio seating.

Stopped in to this long-time Squirrel Hill favorite for a smoothie the other day. Who knew the had smoothies?! It was a hot afternoon so I was excited at the prospect of something fruity and refreshing. Alas, the told me they they were out of all juice options aside from carrot. Then they were out of blueberries, so I went with strawberry. A carrot-strawberry smoothie with a touch of yogurt? Can't say I have ever seen or drank something like this before. It was pretty good actually, not very sweet but refreshing still. They also put real carrot and real frozen strawberries in it. A bit small for $6 though. I was definitely intrigued by the novelty but likely will go elsewhere the next time I crave a smoothie because this cafe was not well stocked.

If you want a really good cup of tea with a delicious pastry 61C has what you want. Coffee lovers rejoice as well because this is coffee brewed as it's meant to be. Relaxing little spot in the heart of Squirrel Hill. It's kinda small and cozy so sometimes it gets packed and cramped. When it's busy, it's worth the wait

The Speckled Egg provided the upscale and elevated breakfast, that was a nice contrast to the rustic and local breakfast we had the next day. Our waitress was friendly and professional. After some deliberation, I went with a bowl that included eggs, chicken sausage, sweet potatoes and a nice garnish of dill. The dill surprisingly elevated the whole dish. My wife enjoyed an omelette. He was courteous, well spoken and friendly. We sat there for about 10-12 minutes. No one approached the table. We looked over to what appeared to be a bar area and we saw two servers standing there talking and showing each other their phones. My wife said, "With our luck, one of those two is our server." Sure enough, when they were finally done talking, one came over to our table....no smile and a big audible sigh. She asked what we wanted to drink, we gave our order and she returned with our beverages. After another 10 minute wait she came back to take our order. When asked about a certain dish, came another big sigh, eye roll and and a rote description of said dish. The food arrived and one of the orders was wrong. Another wait to get her attention. We asked for the item to be redone as we had ordered it. And she even asked how we wanted it! You got it...another eye roll and a big sigh. At least she was well oxygenated! The dish came back with the very same results. On that issue we gave up. Then came the wait for the check. Once again the two servers were chatting, no heads turned to check on their tables. My son went over to get the check. When the check arrived, it was attitude city. She accused us of picking on her because she was only a server. It's obviously how she saw herself. We then asked for the manager who was quick to side with the server. She said that nothing seemed to satisfy us and that we had a problem. IN SHARP CONTRAST. I have been to the Speckled Egg on the South Side many times. From the Host/Hostess to the servers to the bus staff, everyone had a smile, chatted with their customers, laughed and it was always a great experience. The manager came over since he recognized me from being there many times and we chatted for a minute. We are talking Night and Day. Completely two different experiences from server to management styles. To me there is only one Speckled Egg and one complete waste of time (Downtown).

SAUSAGE & CHEESE OMELETTE + Lyonnaise potatoes (side) + whole wheat bread (toast) The sausage & cheese (we asked for Swiss instead of American) omelette itself wasn't anything worth raving about as it was pretty typical. She appeared overwhelmed by her role and was not warm. We were actually told by the waiters that "she is serious about her list". Which would be great if she managed it effectively. When I brought concerns that we had been pushed down the list 3 times for other parties. She responded "well, how do you know that" to which I responded "we watched you take their names down after ours and sit them before us".
