I liked the maple and apple cinnamon donuts best here. The donuts are soft and fresh. I liked the cherry cake donut but not the apple or pumpkin. And I am convinced that all donut shops use the same terrible lemon filling, still on the search. The Boston cream was whipped frosting inside, not Bavarian cream. Good texture, but tasteless. I did not like the lack of labels. And you can hear people asking them constantly what the flavors are, doesn't make much sense. One time I drove 45mins just to get a Marge's donut and they were closed so I slept in my car for 20hrs and woke up to a line out front so I stood in line and then they sold out before I could get to the front so I slept in my car again and set an alarm this time and I woke up right when they opened but there was already a line again! For Memorial Day weekend my boss brought everyone in donuts from Marge's and now that this is the third time I've had the pleasure of enjoying their donuts (and they have decent coffee inside as well) I can say with certainty that this is one of the best donut shops in the greater Grand Rapids area. They always have a great variety, they're always fresh and oh so soft, and the people behind the counter have genuinely kind attitudes at least every time I've been in. Really can't complain about this donut place. I was craving a solid Apple fritter and my searches lead me to out here. The parking was slightly tight but l was able to squeeze in. The line was SUPER long BUT it moved along quickly. You could tell this place has been around forever. There are regulars and the employees know their people. I was half kidding when I ordered a Spider Man cake for my son's 23rd birthday. And, yes, Toby Maguire is Spider Man & he'll fight you if you say otherwise. I expected one of those edible photos laid on top of the cake. Instead, Marge's created art that was almost too perfect to ruin. Almost I can't imagine the steady hand it took to lay the webbing on Spidey's face. Adding the webbed hand on the side of the cake was pure genius and fantastic customer service. Marge's is a nondescript suburban building on 28th street that was filled with families and happy sugar- hyper kids. The staff were all friendly despite the line almost out the door, and dressed in immaculate white chef tunics with embroidered names. They have a huge selection of donuts to choose from, I don't know how you'd pick just a couple. I got a cheese danish though, as I love them. And it was so good. It was creamy and soft and sweet. The staff is so nice and happy to be at work. Parking is easy and easy to enter and exit. Now the treats: amazing! The cookies are hand decorated so cutely.
