This is hard one to review but I wanted to share so others aren't misled as we seemed to be. This is a review about the Hat Bar experience. I wanted to start off by saying we did have a wonderful time. BUT the website advertises for $35 you have a 90 min experience with a glass of wine or tasting and light bites while you shop/customize a hat. We did not get a glass of wine, a tasting or any food. We got a splash of wine to start then that was it. After that we were to pay for more glasses. There are also a range of hat prices on the website. The lower price hats were not available at all. Only the higher priced hats. There was a birthday being celebrated so no one made a stink, but some of us left feeling a bit swindled. It's a really great idea and honestly I wouldn't be writing this review if we got what is advertised. So maybe the website needs to be updated? Just too bad to have a damper on what was a really enjoyable afternoon. read more

What a delightful, eclectic shop of so many hand-selected items such as those made by indigenous people including hat bands and jewelry with old coins, scarves, blankets, large photos, and paintings on ledger paper. Quite a unique store. So many items have gemstones! I chose one of many types of VitaJuwel vial wands that fits inside a specially-designed water decanter. The vial charges your water with the gems' qualities to enhance your wellness. The vials are hand-blown glass by artisans from Bohemia. Each vial has different qualities depending on the gems inside. There are 12 sets of gemstones. For instance, the Forever Young vial for the decanter includes green aventurine, blue aquamarine, brown smoky quartz, and clear quartz for qualities including detoxification, cleansing, stress relief, and serenity. There are also gem-infused candles. The soap or hand sanitizer dispensers and glass water bottles also contain gemstones. The gemstone lamps are a must-see--I saw one of purple, green, and white fluorite. The magick book I purchased there by local Tenae Stewart is an interesting page-turner. I also got a beautiful stone plate that was actually carved around an ancient ammonite. The spiritual qualities of these fossils include circulating energy to relive trauma, enhancing stability, deepening meditation, and balancing the body, mind, and spirit. They're from the Cretaceous period estimated around 146-66 million years ago. There's a sitting area with beautiful, large windows to let in natural light and standing bar for wine tastings. I described the type of wines I enjoy and Carly chose the amazing 2019 Picayune Padlock--a Napa Bordeaux Blend wine of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, and 18% Cabernet Franc. It was absolutely exquisite. Its nose is blackberries, chocolate, and autumn spices. The flavor is well-balanced with a lingering finish of blackberries, plums, and peppercorns. Very drinkable without food. Carly mentioned that this particular wine is even included on the menu at the prestigious French Laundry restaurant. I searched online for a pet friendly winery in Calistoga and Picayune did not disappoint. we visited on a Saturday in August and I asked at the front desk where to go since we had dogs. we were welcomed to sit anywhere we wanted. we were immediately asked if our pups wanted refreshments and we were given a nice bowl of ice water. the wines were incredible, but it was so nice to visit a friendly winery who advertised as dog friendly and who actually meant it. we also had our two year old in tow, and no one blinked. we felt welcomed and appreciated AND tasted delicious wine! they also have a cute little retail store attached. read more

I am a sucker for cute little gift shops with handmade items from local artists - Add a magnificent wine tasting to go along with the shopping and I am in my element! Picayune is located downtown in the super cute, quaint town of Calistoga. Walking this street seems so peaceful to me - Wineries, Art Galleries, Bookstores and so many more adorable places to pop into. The shop itself is so wonderful - You will find everything from hand carved wood pieces, hand-made cards {which is my jam - sending people handwritten cards is a lost art}, wine bottle toppers, crystals {also my jam} and so much more. I was in heaven! While we were there, we also enjoyed an amazing wine tasting - Four of their delicious wines were served to us my the nicest and friendliest gentleman {who also let us poke around the store after closing hours - Thank you for that}. He was telling us the story of how Picayune got started and a little bit about the owner, Claire - Who just seemed so rad. Not two minutes later, in walks Claire! My tipsy self, said "THE Claire"! Ha! She was the sweetest and coolest lady {with an awesome fashion sense - The hat she was wearing was on point}! While I held myself back from buying a killer tabletop crystal {that I still think about to this day and kick myself for not buying}, we did leave with a few amazing gifts for friends and some bottles of wine. We ended up having a wonderful conversation with Claire and she signed one of bottles we bought to celebrate our anniversary - We are saving it for our next anniversary so we can indulge a bit. Picayune is a must while you are visiting Calistoga - Even if you are not a wine drinker, go strictly for the items in the shop. I made reservations at this wine tasting room a number of months ago. We had such an enjoyable time both Jayne and the other girl working were fantastic. We sat outside on the pack patio and had a nice tasting and also cheese and charcuterie plate, I highly recommend that. We bought three bottles of the Pinot noir as we liked it the best. This place is so cute. You can grab a glass of wine while enjoying the gift shop. Or just sit down and enjoy the wine and chat. All the wine that we tried was great. Some of the items inside the shop are a little pricey. We ended up here because we bought the Calistoga passport and this was one of the wineries included in it. If you want a full blown tasting room with great views this is not the place. This is more of a small boutique with wine which is amazing. However, it did not disappoint. We came pretty close to closing time and was still able to try some of the wine. Can't wait to come back. read more

We were told picayune means 'a little bit' however the Oxford dictionary defines picayune as, 'petty; worthless'. We were recommended to come here by a gentleman at Twomey and decided to check it out as we waited for our next tasting appointment at Clos Pegase . Overall, the wines were not bad and their gatekeeper was excellent. The wine is more between 3.5 and 4 stars on its own - but get a bottle of their gatekeeper or rose and move on with your day. We were recommended to choose either the rosé or gatekeeper by the glass and ask to sit in the backyard. Well... we asked and we were given a long impersonal run around about a private event. I checked later on the way to the bathroom and some people were being seated out in the back. Not that big of a deal. I was turned off by the prices of their wines with a twist off cap. I understand the twist cap is economical but why would I pay over $25 for a twist off cap experience? Additionally, the wine 'tour guide' just didn't have much in the way of sales experience and seemed nervous. Additionally, this tasting moved very slowly... we were obviously bait for the passerby's to stop and check it out. At the end we were going to settle with the tasting fee and move on - until she mentioned ' we could buy three bottles' for the tasting fee to be waived. In what world? We offered to buy five bottles and two tastings (group of 4) MSRP $175 - but they wouldn't budge and would rather have the tastings at $25 dollars a piece at $100. An interesting business decision. Anyways, wines are okay but the gatekeeper is really good - would have loved to posted a picture of their gatekeeper but writing a lack luster review instead. Cant say I'd recommend unless you are coming to Calistoga without any reservations at all. If you have no experience in wine tasting you might like this place. read more

We love wine. We are students of wine and our best times are spent exploring new wineries; that is why we were so happy to find Picayune. The tasting room is located on the main drag of Calistoga. Although there are plenty of comfortable options for tasting we decided to belly-up to the bar and explore the tasting menu. Picayune offers several wines to please even the most discriminating palate. Our favorites were the Hyde Sauvignon Blanc, the Padlock and the Rose. Tastings are not rushed and questions are encouraged. The vintner/winemaker is Claire Ducrocq Weinkauf a very talented winemaker that studied under Paul Hobbs. Claire makes beautiful wines at affordable prices. We were so impressed we became Key Members - the name given to those joining the wine club. Mind you, we belong to 7 other wine clubs so this was not our plan. But when you discover a good thing - you have to go with it. Picayune Cellars earns an easy 5 stars. Woohoo! Cute little tasting salon & gift shop. We bought a bottle of rich, red goodness, although I was totally distracted by all the lovely merchandise! High quality & pricey but unique and tasteful. So many hidden gems in Calistoga and this one is not to be missed..I had to choose between the wine and jewelry & I chose wine. I would recommend they use wine glasses instead of plastic govino's to really experience the true excellence of their wine though. read more

This spot is super cute and located right in downtown Calistoga! It's part shop, part wine tasting with seating indoors and out (but only out right now during covid). Their back patio is adorable and cozy with a couple couches and picnic tables + festive lights and decor. They don't actually make their own wine, but they have a nice assortment that you can try in a tasting (4 wines for $25) by the glass, or bottle. We found the wines to be a little too light for us overall and the only one that stuck out was their signature red blend. Appreciated the hospitality we were shown and were happy to support this spot. read more

Various wines are blended (the curator cannot reveal the actual wines used, hence the key on her label) to create one-of-a-kind blends that cannot necessarily be replicated again. I had a great time tasting the wines at Picayune. The lady who helped us on Sunday was very nice and welcoming. The room itself is very cute. It lets in a lot of natural sunlight and was perfect to start our tasting day on Sunday morning. All three wines here were stellar! I think that the smokiness of the Pinot Noir really made it stand out against other wines that I tasted in Calistoga. I ended up buying a bottle of it. I'll definitely be back to Picayune soon.
