With the winter weather we've been having was looking to get a hydrafacial to help my severely dry itchy skin. I booked a facial through the online system. The day of my appt I was met by their aesthetician, Josie. The salon was clean, welcoming and professional. She brought me to a beautiful treatment room with a bed that was already heated. During the treatment she explained how my skin was reacting to the treatment and made several suggestions. I chose the PRX treatment and couldn't be happier with the excellent results. Josie took her time and provided an excellent mini upper body arms and hand massage and to my surprise my feet and lower legs. Total bonus on a winter day. For an hour Josie provided a beautiful experience providing a great ambiance in a relaxing environment. After several days my skin still feels and looks amazing and is still glowing. Having had other hyrdafacials mostly on vacations this one was by far the best and long lasting result that I have ever had. I should have written this ages ago, but I never got a chance. Awhile back I had a Groupon for a facial. I scheduled it in the late afternoon/early evening. That day, the esthetician who was going to do my facial called and asked if I could come earlier, but I couldn't due to work. When I got there and we started, she just steamed my face and said she couldn't extract anything. Then she did the rest of it, which was just a shoulder massage and rubbing a ridiculous amount of lotion all over my face, including on my eyelids. I had a film of lotion over my eyes for two days. I called to make an appointment last week. Due to my work schedule they said I could come in at 7pm Tuesday for cut and color. They were also aware I had an old gift card, and was told if their 'new systems' did not accept the gift card then they could still potentially discount me anyways. It is now the day before my appointment and I get a notification that my appointment was changed an hour early. Then I believe it was the hair dresser that texted me asking if I can come in earlier TONIGHT at 6. My appointment was for tomorrow. She's then asking me all the same questions I had already been asked prior so this was another concern for me. She tells me I cannot use the 'Groupon' for color, I then explain to her I cannot change the day and time of my appointment, and I have no problem paying for color, and I also answer her questions. She then says 'who told you i can discount color due to coupon'. Now im uncomfortable and annoyed because i had already explained that the gift card was for CUT AND STYLE and I was OKAY with paying for color. She then tells me that her 'reason for even textng me' was because she doesn't do color that late in the evening for first time clients, so she can only cut my hair and I would have to book another appointment to do color. Remember: I booked my appointment LAST WEEK and you not only changed my appointment to 6pm without asking me, you can't even provide the services I have waited several days for! At this point I am disappointed and upset because I made it clear I was already anxious to do this big chop in the first place, and now I officially do not trust them to do it at all. I told her this is not what was discussed and it shouldn't be this stressful and I will be cancelling and taking my business elsewhere. She says 'There is obviously some Confusion but if that is how you feel instead of a conversation...' in which I do not reply because..excuse me? why are you arguing with me? And then without calling me or any apologies she cancels my appointment! So unprofessional and uncomfortable never again. read more

I know I was making a risky move by using a Groupon for a hair salon -- especially for a coloring service. I was incredibly disappointed and I honestly feel like that's an understatement. While advertised as a full balayage, I was given only a partial balayage. The color was also placed in awkward, chunky places. One strip of bleach was put in middle of my bangs. Also, as another reviewer says, nowhere on the website does it say toner is extra but when I got there they told me it was, so I had to pass on it due to not being able to afford it. My friend also went here with the same Groupon, for one balayage and wash and cut, and they also only gave her a partial balayage. If you're going to advertise a balayage, either specify that its only partial, or do it as a full as one would assume. Not coming back and neither is my friend. read more

Josie provides the absolute best skincare treatments I have ever had. after learning about the benefits of a hydrafacial through her, I have been going on an almost monthly basis for this service and it has done wonders for my skin. I leave with a lasting brightening and calming effect. For a while after each treatment, I am in awe of how youthful my skin looks and feels, with and without makeup on! While at the spa, she provides a wonderfully relaxing environment, adding some soothing massage while my face is resting and also explains the specifics of the skincare treatment as she goes. Had a Groupon for a European facial. It's a nice clean place and the actual room they do it in is relaxing and well set up. My esthetician asked me about my skin concerns and gave me some good advice. They do a massage with the facial which made me feel a lot better, and very comfy. Also she got my skin SO clean by getting the junk out of my nose and chin. Didn't feel rushed at all, I think it was at least half an hour service. I saw a groupon for a discounted rate on a European Facial and figured this would be my best chance to try one out at a reasonable price, as I've never had one before! My esthetician was Juliana, and she was great from start to finish! Pretty much as soon as she started cleansing my skin, I was in a different world! I was super impressed that I couldn't hear a single sound from the other side of the door! She gave my arms, hands and shoulders a great quick massage, as well as the facial massage! It was hard to keep my eyes open once she said we were done! I stumbled out of the salon in a relaxation daze, and floated home, as the most Zen Massachusetts driver there ever was! My one tip: Check your face in the mirror after the facial prior to doing errands. My face was regurgitating moisturizer to the point where i looked like I was personally melting, and I'm sure the restaurant I went into thought I was dying :D I'll definitely be going back to get another facial! I've been to this salon twice and had no problems the first time around. I received a trim from Marie who is wonderful and left with my hair looking better than it did when I walked in. My second visit however was disappointing and expensive to say the least. I paid for a lash & brow tint along with a lash lift. My eyelashes look darker which is nice and my eyebrows look good too. My largest problem is with the lash lift I received. My eyelashes weren't lifted. I left the salon after getting a lash lift that didn't lift my lashes. I wish the woman doing them would have just admitted that she was inexperienced and didn't know how to work on smaller eyes. She falsely told me that my eyelashes hadn't lifted yet because they were wet but when they dried, they would be lifted. That never happened lol. I paid $90. Their website mentioned a brow & lash tint being $45 and their lash lift price wasn't listed online. Now I know better than to get a lash lift again or at least avoid this location for that specific service. Time to try lash extensions! read more

I went here for a facial with Josephine. Not only was this my first time at the salon, but it was also my first facial, ever. Having shared this with Josephine, I would have expected her to be extra attentive, explaining everything she was doing. However, she did not share what she was doing, and I found myself surprised at the sudden/jerky raising and lowering of the massage table, and the various things she did to my face. She was also very pushy when trying to promote the products to me. However, when I asked her what made that product so good, she was unable to give me a good answer. I used a Groupon. I'm not sure if the rudeness was due to the fact that I was paying via Groupon, or if they are just generally lacking in customer relations. The experience wasn't all bad-- I do think my skin looks and feels better since having the treatment. I will go get another facial, but I'll definitely try somewhere different. read more

I do like the deco of the salon. BUT.......... I have to agree with Jane. I felt the same way after my appointment. It even seemed that they would rather have you use the GCoupon after the expiration since then you pay for the additional cost. Plus, Ive had manis & pedis done before and not too impresssive and does not care to explain anything to you. Take your time, I seemed rush. It showed uneven nails, bubbles/streaks even debris in the polish. Its not the customers choice to have you on GCoupon. I felt out of place everyone had conversations with each other. Josie even walked away to have ongoing conversations or carried on while trying to attend to me. Some coversations shouldnt have even been discussed in the salon. OMG! I absolutely loved my facial with Josie I told her it was my first facial ever and she made sure that I was comfy and walked me through the entire process. I got the deal through groupon and bought the facial and mani and pedi. I regret it wish I had only bought the facial. While the girl that did the mani pedi was really nice she just didn't know what she was doing I've never seen a good mani done in 15 minutes....didn't take out the cuticles did a horrible job painting my nails. I found this place through groupon and lemme just say, thank god for groupon! Josie did my wax and she was very professional and nice. She made sure I was comfortable and kept making sure the wax wasn't too hot. The wax was different from other salons I've been to and it actually was a lot less painful. I would definitely recommend this salon to anyone, especially if you usually can't stand the pain of a Brazilian wax. I even asked about the keratin treatment and she showed me a shampoo and conditioner that would help my hair (and wasn't as expensive as a treatment). Give this place a try. Hair is a HUGE thing to me considering i've had my fair share of butchered cuts.. But my hair was in great hands the whole time she was working on it! Well... I found this salon from Groupon. I needed a hair lift and thought it would be a great opportunity to get it done by the price. Unfortunately, my hair came out garbage and she cut my hair too much. My 'blonde' hair came out in so many different colors. The lady was complimenting my hair, trying to convince me it was really nice. I also got charged extra for toner which I find really odd.... the groupon was around 80 dollars I believe. I bought four "Groupons" for a "Day of Beauty" as a birthday celebration with four friends. I booked all four appointments for a Saturday in April. Our "Day of Beauty" Groupon included a cut, color and highlights, a facial, brow and lip wax and a mani/pedi for (I think it was) $95! It was a tremendous deal. At first I was a little skeptical. This was a new salon and I didn't know anyone who had been to this salon before. I secretly thought to myself, "how bad can it be?" I figured I'd get the facial and the manicure/pedicure but thought I would pass on the whole cut/color/highlight portion of the Groupon (that was where I figured real harm could come from someone who didn't know what they were doing!) or at least I'd let one of my girlfriends go first! I started the day with the facial while Trish got her hair cut and Wendy had her pedicure (Julie sipped on coffee and waited just a bit). I've had many facials before and this one was one of the best. It was utterly relaxing (read unrushed) and very obvious therapist really knew her stuff! It turned out that she had worked for many years at Elizabeth Grady and was completely up-to-speed on everything from products to skin types and sensitivities. My facial finished-up and I returned to the main hair salon to catch a glimpse of what was happening to Trish in the stylist's chair. All I can say it - OMG - what a transformation! The color, the highlights, the cut and the blow-out were absolutely fantastic. I immediately decided that the stylist not only knew what she was doing but was completely fantastic. I nixed my idea of "skipping" the hair portion of the Groupon and was next in line in her chair. By the end of the afternoon, all four of us had been cut and buffed and pampered perfectly! It was an awesome day and we were all 100% happy with our new do's, our fresh faces and our pampered piggies. Maria Francesco Salon & Spa may not be the most extravagant salon you'll find on the North Shore. However, it is very comfortable and the two sisters who run the business are as smart as they are nice and, most importantly, hey know there stuff! My girlfriends - one from Salem, one from Exeter, one from Nantucket and me from Newburyport, have all said that we will be back!
