Probably one of the hidden gems in Englewood. Was staying in Manasota key and saw the positive reviews on Maria's and stopped in for breakfast. No sooner did I sit down, I was greeted by Robin who took my drink order and I was soon sipping on a hot cup of coffee. Was impressed with the menu that had a decent breakfast selections as well as some Mexican Breakfast" selection as well. Decided on the Chorizo Quesadila which, when offered, cane with homefries and toast. As I prepare this review, I now realize I never got my toast, but don't miss it at all as the Quesadila and homefries were filling. HadI realized my toast was missing, I'm sure if I inquired about it they wolud have brought it over but I never even realized it was missing. The food was awesome. The quesadila was perfectly blended, was not greasy and over loaded with cheese, and had a good blend of chorizo sausage in it. I added some hot sauce to kick it up, but it would have been just as tasty without it. All in all, Maria's has it all. Great food, great service, and great prices. A few miles from Manisota Key, Maria's is a great place to go for breakfast or lunch if you want a break from the often busier and often pricier places you may find on close to the water. There was ample parking and managed to sit down as soon as I entered on a Sunday morning around 10 AM. While I did not have a drink thos time around, Screwdrivers, Mimosas, and other cocktails are also available for those that are interested. One if the only downfalls that I can sat did not impact me is they are cash only. Just a warning to those who may venture out without any cash. If you don't have cash, I'd say it is definitely worth getting cash and stopping in. With only a few days left, I can see myself returning again for another breakfast or lunch. read more

We had breakfast two days in a row! The first day hubby had the best! breakfast burrito so I had it the second! The medium salsa was sooo tasty! The accompanying potatoes were good, too! This is a small and cozy Mexican and American breakfast. restaurant. The decor was very cute. It was very high-quality Mexican or traditional breakfast at a very reasonable price. My wife and I split the breakfast quesadilla it was absolutely delicious you'd be wise to order your potatoes crispy and their homemade hot sauce was very tasty but a few drops will set you on fire so maybe you should order the medium. The French toast was also very good with not too much sugarcoating. our server, Debbie, was top-notch. We have been going here for breakfast and lunch for 3 years now and every time has been great! It's a cute welcoming restaurant, clean with awesome servers. My husband and I traveled all the way from west Texas to visit family. We found this restaurant on yelp. It's great, authentic Mexican food. Everything was fantastic with the exception of the wait staff. I would love to give 5 stars if it wasn't for the crazy outburst from our server. Someone needs to pull her to the side and have a conversation (elderly white lady, brownish red hair and glasses) I'll start the convo by informing her that y'all are a team, it doesn't matter who comes to a guests table to check on everyone. Customers do NOT care who brings food, or comes by to check on them or who refills drinks, it's all part of it. It DOES NOT affect your tip if and when other servers or as you put it "the help" comes by to provide service. This server snapped at my husband and me for asking the young girl that came to our table for some guacamole. I mean, my god, the girl asked and we happened to feel like adding guac to our tab. The elderly server rushed over to our table completely offended that we spoke to someone other than her, it was such a crazy, bizarre reaction, it was as if she was highly offended. I can't explain it any better than it was unlike anything we've experienced. She must not have served tables very long, she needs that convo that she's part of a team, the other girls are on her team and no one is taking anything from her. It was so personal, it was unsettling. The food was amazing, the service needs to match it. The Hispanic ladies working there are not "the help" they are part of what makes that place run, they're part of that team. Came in with a group of 12 people on very short notice, staff was extremely accommodating, efficient, and every single person loved their meal. I was very impressed. My chicken enchilada had fresh tender meat, the slathering of sauce (with just the right heat) didn't make the tortilla soggy. Fresh ensalada and yummy beans. Many people ordered the chimichanga and I tasted a bite of my husbands, it was really crispy and tasty. After we were finished eating and the restaurant was closed for the afternoon, the group was loitering in the parking lot when the (presumed?) owner came out and offered for us to hang out on the patio because they wouldn't be leaving for another hour or so. The prices are very reasonable and what I've had has been pretty good. I normally get their Huevos Rancheros and I recommend getting it with crispy potatoes otherwise they come very soft and barely cooked. The service is good but it's a cash only restaurant and it's very out dated. I'm guessing since the prices are so low they can't afford to spruce the place up but most people who go there seem not to mind it. They do add $1 on all breakfast items after 11pm which is odd since they will still make anything on the menu. I'm fine with it because I want the breakfast when I go so I'll pay the $1 but I'm guessing they're trying to prevent cheapskates from ordering the cheap breakfast at lunch. I've only had their veggie omelette and the huevos rancheros which are good so I'm not sure how the rest of the food is. One thing I don't like is they put the sour cream and salsa in tiny containers. It's messy because they sometimes spill out and splatter every where especially the sour cream. Why use the containers just put it on the plate. To me it's wasteful, messy and looks cheap. Like it's a fast food place instead of a restaurant. I'd also recommend better sour cream the one they use is watery. Not sure if that has anything to do with it being in the container or not. I usually go after 11 am and at that time I've never had a problem getting in right away. There's always people there so they stay fairly busy. I gave only 3 stars because as a Mexican restaurant I feel like their selection is limited for my taste and I've had better else where but for the area it's good to try. read more

We came here because of family recommendations and I am so glad we did! This is a great little hole in the wall that you may miss when driving down the street. It's dark inside but the food more than makes up for it! There's a private parking lot next to and behind the restaurant. It's pretty much a hidden gem so it won't be too terribly busy. Everything on the menu is up for grabs. There's a specific breakfast menu that they stop giving out past 11 but you can still ask for it and everything will cost $1 more than the listed price. I ordered the chorizo omelette. Make sure you ask for cheese otherwise it'll be a little on the drier side. The meat was tasty; however, the eggs weren't seasoned very well/much before cooking. The plate also comes with a side of home fries (or grits) and toast (choice of white, wheat, or rye). Other meals at the table were a chicken burrito, which was also very good, and huevos rancheros. The rice and beans that came with the burrito were spot on and didn't have the tasted of being microwaved like most other Mexican places. I ordered the breakfast tacos with a side of corn beef hash and hubby ordered chorizo and eggs with corn tortillas. Food arrived quickly and hot however was not very exciting. Everything was cooked as we liked but the taste was very very bland. For a Mexican style breakfastThe refried beans were similar to a canned version and there was really no flavor. We had lunch at this unassuming restaurant and were pleased with experience. My wife enjoyed her split pea soup and tuna cheese melt. My Rueben sandwich was good but not outstanding. The coleslaw was a little creamier than I like but tasty nevertheles. The sweet tea had a strange but not unpleasant flavor. Our server, Robin, was outstanding being very pleasant and attentive. This place is a nice alternative to the better-known more expensive restaurants on W. Dearbon Street near the Farmers' Market. We will be back when we are in the area. read more
