Well based on previous reviews I took my wife here for a Valentine's lunch. I must say I was very disappointed with this restaurant. First off no one greeted us when they did and seated us I noticed that the booths were dirty and most of the cloth backings were old torn and stained. The decor was very dark including the old paint a very mustard looking yellow. The chips and salsa were very basic salsa lacked flavor. The menu's look very old and tattered and pages stick together. I ordered the special Texas chimi my wife ordered the chicken enchiladas. The waitress brought our meals mine had two small chimichanges one steak one chicken smothered in a cheese sauce. The steak chimi lacked flavor not much seasonings and the steak was chewy texture and no flavor. The refried beans were bland and soupy. The rice was the same along with the guacamole. The chicken chimi and my wife's enchiladas were the same chicken was bland and smothered in sauce. From the look of the dinning room I suspect that the kitchen isn't much better I would love to see their walk in and see how they store food. What was really bad was my wife was dissapointed. I will not go back to this restaurant nor would I recommend it to anyone. I hope the owner takes these reviews seriously because this restaurant needs a make over. read more

They have awesome food! I think they have the best Mexican food in Sherman love their Salsa everytime we have been there the service has been spot on! The recently but a full bar in and if you drink you will want to check it out! The owner always comes by our table and checks to make sure we have everything we need and our food is ok! There is plenty of seating on Friday and Saturday nights no hour waits like some of the other places in town! Plus they have great specials going on! We have eaten here several times, and have been very impressed with the food at every visit. The chips (fresh made) and salsa are excellent, and they have the best fajitas in town, by FAR. The other menu items that we have tried (a variety of enchiladas, tacos, etc) are also delicious. We recently took my three daughters to eat there, and they were very complimentary of the great food. The drinks are great, and they have a full service bar. The service has always been excellent. This is in our top three favorite places to eat in the Sherman-Denison area. read more

Went on a Sunday for lunch. Nice place, pretty crowded, I was seated quickly. My server was nice but seemed new. I ordered the Chili Relleno and there choices of filling and had to tell her I wanted chicken, she didn't ask. The food was great, a big poblano stuffed with shredded chicken and topped with cheesy goodness. It came with flour tortillas, I prefer corn. Came here with a big group for lunch one day. They were very attentive and brought the food out pretty fast. The chips were good and their queso was delicious! I ordered the lunch special of the chicken flautas. I was brought a huge plate of rice, beans, lettuce, guacamole, and fried flautas. The flautas were a little too heavy for my taste, but I am very glad that I could dip them in guacamole. The rice and beans were ok, but nothing amazing. This place is a decent tex-mex place and they have lots of menu options. I probably wouldn't come back, but definitely would recommend it to tex-mex fans out there who want a hardy meal! read more

This is a fun, divey, good old-fashioned Tex-mex style restaurant with great Margaritas and good food. From what I've observed, they are best on Friday and Saturday nights for a family dinner because that's when they have the most staff on deck. We took a group of 11 people (5 kids) and the service was pretty good. I ordered the Chicken Alhambras. It was very tasty, was a nice escape from the usual "enchiladas and burritos", and had exceptional depth in flavor. I recommend this dish to anyone who loves green peppers, onions, and lots of ooey-gooey cheese. Portion sizes are large and they will gladly refill the chip bowl and salsa as much as necessary. Pro tip: Get your margaritas on the rocks because the bartender is a little "heavy handed", if ya know what I mean (*elbow nudge and a wink*). read more

First time at Mariachi's Friday night. The menu was quite extensive with typical TexMex fare but with a nice mixture of steak,chicken,pork, or seafood entrees. The atmosphere is festive,this being apparently the site of a former famous local Raise-the-Flag Mexican buffet complete with a mural of a Mexican village covering one wall and tile groupings depicting other Mexican-type scenes. The hypnotic sounds of the music with a typical Latin beat was a little loud at first but it must have grown on me later. :) Service was quite good and food was wonderful and wait staff friendly and accommodating. The reason for three stars rather than five was toward the end of our meal the restaurant management allowed a group of four girls inside shilling for a charity I've never heard of from the Philippines. The spokeswoman said they'd be singing a few songs and said something about giving to their charity for children, something I'm all about helping. This being the Christmas season I thought they'd be singing some sort of Christmas songs but they broke into a CCR song and then did some Three Dog Night, followed up by everybody's favorite, Country Roads by John Denver. Again,this being Christmas, feared scam or not, I gave them $20 but it was my choice to get up and take it to them and not for them to come by our table and ask. As we were leaving we did actually them going from table to table asking for donations, disturbing a relaxing dinner with family or friends, something a restaurant should NEVER allow from an outside group or even from their own mariachi band. I doubt Mariachi's will allow this to happen again but this one time may be enough for me not to go back to ever find out. My wife and I have been to Mariachi's 3 times and we're happy with everything each time. Rice and beans are always good. The salsa is tasty, though be warned if you don't like cilantro. This is without doubt, the worst Mexican food I have ever eaten. I got the chicken fajitas and they were edible. My husband got cheese enchiladas and he couldn't eat them, and he will eat frozen dinner enchiladas. The cheese enchiladas were made with the same cheese as their queso, inside and outside. I'm pretty sure it is some kind of velveta type cheese since the cheese I got for my fajitas was the same and instead of being in shredded strips like you would expect, it was little cheese curls which looked very similar to chocolate curls.
