Our Mom moved into the Sunrise of San Mateo Memory Care program after living in an assisted living…read moreapartment in another facility, She had vascular dementia and her disease had progressed to the point where she needed more care. we have been very pleased with the level of care provided for her. her caregivers were attentive and compassionate. The Memory Care is a lockdown floor so it is safe but she enjoyed outside visits with us, coffee downstairs and regular hair appointments in the facility. we were thankful and pleased with the care she received. it wasn't cheap, but we appreciated her care very much.

She loves the activities, especially nerf volleyball (who knew?) ! The care manager, Joanne, is incredible -remembering so many of the details that make up a new life there in her new community. Dania, is a wonderful, caring nurse and she helped us find a doctor who comes to the facility to visit her, rather than having to drag her out to doctor's appointments. She gets her hair and nails done there weekly and goes on outings to a different restaurant every week as well as site seeing trips in the van to the coast. All this even though she's in a wheelchair! Last but certainly not least is the wonderful Theresa greeting you as you enter and helping with so many things, she knows all! We are so relieved that she is safe and happy!

Sandpiper was always clean, bright, and immaculate. The food was excellent (I had some - who would have thought that cabbage soup would taste good?) I used to push Mom on her wheel chair to the park adjoining the home, to the Foster City levy under San Mateo bridge for sunset views of San Francisco, and even to her dentist and orthopedist - all within a 10 minute walk (near Hillbarn Theatre - so sorry she was unable to attend their shows - my loss! The staff took care of what had been a major chore - getting and administering a multiple of pills; a local pharmacy delivered all prescriptions and Costco is nearby for all bulk purchases. As Mom's memory, mobility and ability to talk decreased, she required increased care - incontinence, feeding, turning her body every 15 minutes. Not once did any of the staff complain, or Sandpiper's owner: Sapphire is an extraordinary lady - competent, kind, flexible, and concerned. She took care of all arrangements and ongoing management of hospice care. Her staff is more than competent - they love their work, and love the people they care for. It is difficult to conceive a more lovely, love-filled, wonder-full place for Mom's care. Note: Sapphire also owns and manages Holland House in San Mateo.

I didn't even have time to look at their site. I rejected the call and one second later I got a call from them again. I rejected that one too. The next morning at 9am I got another call. I rejected it and a second later I got another call. I blocked the number. Tonight I got another call from them from a different number. I blocked that number too. I did a google search and found all the information I needed. Stay away from this "service".

I even told the main contact I felt I was getting harassed and he still contacted me after that. I had to actually block him. I'm still getting calls and texts almost a year later. There's other ways to search for care. Just searching facilities in your area or home care agencies on your own. Most of the agency's they use are also aggressive once they reach out. It added on extra stress to my life when I was already going through a lot. Be prepared to be relentlessly harassed by them if you reach out.

I recently had my first visit here, and I found it to be a safe and peaceful place. It's located in a quiet neighborhood in the San Mateo Hills. You have to call ahead to visit. Sanitizer, masks, and temp checks are available as you enter. The the place looks just like a large house. Kitchen, dining room, common area for TV and sitting, and six rooms. There's also a large patio deck. The staff is friendly, and I felt welcome. This is much different than a nursing hospital. This is more like living in a home, but with caregivers available. Street parking.
