OUTSTANDING!! I pass by every day on my way to work but I thought I'd finally stop by and see how Maria's was... it was phenomenal. These are the best tamales I've ever had and the best guacamole I've ever had and I don't say that lightly. Maria was so sweet and helped me decide what to order since I had never been before. I love that the inside has all the fun stuff to look at while you eat. And they have jarritos and Mexican coke! Next time I'll have to get the ceviche since everyone is raving about that! I highly recommend Maria's if you're looking for an authentic Mexican.

    Homemade Tamales, salsas, crafts

My daughter and I just happened to drive by this place when we were hungry. We turned around and went back, and what a wonderful thing that turned out to be! FOOD: TAMALES! Everything homemade with love and deliciousness. SERVICE: Couldn't be better. Maria is the owner/operator. She is a gem and in just a short, personalized conversation (the restaurant wasn't busy at the time), I can tell you she is a wonderful human being. AMBIENCE: Darling! Decorated adorably, Insta-worthy, and authentic. NOTES: - They make and sell many handcrafts - Great place for private party - Great photo backdrops, aka Insta-worthy - They do not have liquor license

Looking for somewhere different for lunch

We was looking for somewhere buffet for lunch. We had never been there. Inside is surprisingly different than outside. I would say 90% of all orders are carry out. They have tamales 6 different ways. The rice & beans are very good. We got the spicier salsa & it way different than most salsa. ( great over the tamales)

    Love the chairs!

Great food! I visited there for the first time today and had the ceviche which came with four crispy corn tortillas ($16). The food was very fresh and good! My pal got four beef tacos (also $16), and she enjoyed her meal, too. The furnishings are beautiful--definitely a delight for the eyes! The place is clean, including the restroom, which I appreciate.

Chicken tamale before i demolished the beef one.

Fantastic authentic Mexican food. We had the tamales, delicious! And the guacamole was incredible. Real tortillas to dip in the guacamole. And the lady was so sweet. Plus they have great handmade rustic furniture and gifts for sale. It's like going to a Mexican market in Mexico. Two thumbs up

Truly the best tamales and ceviche in the city, if not the entire state. My favorite is the Jalapeño and Cheese with salsa verde. Suggest taking a bunch home. Freezes well. Maria is an artist with food and even with creating her own signage. She is not only good cook but a truly good person. The ambiance is unique...handmade piñatas and crafts. Mexican Coke and tres leches cake will satisfy your sweet tooth. Must visit.

The chicken tacos are awesome as well!

Best tamales in the city. If you're into tamales, you should get over here as soon as possible. I tried both the pork and beef tamales. I prefer the pork, but, to be honest, I always prefer the pork. In tamales, I think it is the best option. So maybe the beef tamales are good, but they are overshadowed so much by the pork in my palate that there is really no other option. They give you an option of cheese covered tamales here. Try it. I didn't think I'd like it, but I did. Definitely worth a try. They also give you an option of salsas that they smother those delectable beasts with. I'd go that route as well. The spicy salsa was not my favorite, but it has a unique flavor and again worth a try. You might like it. Get a couple different types and share! Ancillary findings...look, I came here for tamales and got what I was hoping for. But my daughter went with the chicken tacos. Wow! They are fantastic as well! Tacos and tamales ~ you're not gonna do wrong there.

Add a star if you dont mind spending a lot of money for not a lot of food. This place looks like you walked into Guadalajara. It's not a fancy place. It's ingenious what they did with the space. There are piñatas hanging from the ceiling and all kinds of random tchotchkes everywhere. The women were speaking Spanish to the patron who was speaking Spanish. I wasn't sure if English was okay here so I initially spoke Spanish. This was not necessary. Anyway, the menu is limited. You get four tacos for $16. You can't order in lesser amounts. Mine did not have much meat. You don't get rice or beans or chips. I also ordered a beef tamale ($4), which was small, but good. The food was fine, but I thought it was expensive and would not return. It was not the best I have had, but was decent enough. I wouldn't go out of my way to return. FYI, I'm from NY and we have lots of really good food, so I'm not sure how this would rate if we were comparing hole in the wall taco place to hole in the wall taco place, only in KY. I'm comparing it to my favorite places in NY, PA, and TN.

1 pork and 1 beef tamale topped with cheese, with a side of spicy salsa, and a Jarritos Mandarin Soda.

Love those place. Such a great and approachable menu. Sometimes these "mission based" places can be a little complicated. Not this place.

Hi! What are the hours? I went by today (Thursday) at 2:19 pm, and from what I could tell it was closed :( thanks!

When we were there, it wasn't uncommon for them to close in the afternoon. It seemed to be more of a morning place.

I am wanting to order Tamales for Thanksgiving how far in advance do I need to place an order?

I've always skipped this spot when at the mall and I'm not sure why... I finally got convinced to…read morego out for girls night with the promise of soft served margaritas. The place is beautiful from the outside and the inside. It is a very modern establishment however, they have some unique qualities I hadn't seen in Lexington. For starters, they sat us right away even though it was busy. Next, we ordered a guacamole appetizer and someone came with a cart and made it fresh in front of us! I thought that was super cool since you also get to pick your toppings. The margaritas tasted amazing... it was truly a good ice cream base; I've had nothing like it. Their food is good, they have so many options and the portions are good but it is pricey. The vibe is super fun, it's like a genuine party. Definitely recommend to anyone who hasn't been. 10/10

Rating: (3.7/5) We…read moreabsolutely love El Asadero and have been here hundreds of times, which is why this review is tough to write. This is only my second post, and unfortunately this visit was disappointing compared to our usual experiences. Our server was very friendly and attentive, which we appreciated. However, the beer came out warm, which was a rough start. We ordered the lettuce tacos and a cheesesteak quesadilla. It seemed like the food sat in the service window a bit too long -- the lettuce wasn't crispy and we had to ask for new lettuce for the tacos. The quesadilla itself was good, but it could've used some extra flavor. We also ordered hot sauce, but it wasn't spicy at all, which was a letdown. That said, we know what this place is capable of and this visit felt more like an off night than the norm. We'll definitely be back to give it another shot, because El Asadero is usually one of our go-to spots.
