One of the three best taquerias that I have ever eaten at in the state of Kentucky. We had a selection of authentic tacos and burritos. Pastor, asada, tinga, lingua, and barbacoa. Everything was incredible and the service was even better. The place isn't fancy, but it doesn't have to be, it looks like it literally hasn't changed since the mid 90s and usually that is the sign of a great place to eat when it comes to authentic taquerias. Feels like you are in Mexico. Authentic food with so many types of different meats. I got the lingua, barbacoa, carne and cabeza. I'd say barbacoa and lingua were my top 2 because of the immense flavor. I will warn you that after eating this food be prepared to feel a bit sluggish. Got a small cabeza burrito also and was good but would recommend using a different meat than what I chose because it gets lost in the fixings. Also, the tacos had too much cilantro but I just took what I wanted off. This spot reminds me of the taco stands on side of the road in California. What a great authentic Mexican restaurant! Very casual. There's a mixture of seating arrangements in the main space. You order at the counter and your food is brought out. The menu is very simple but delicious. They have a variety of burritos, sopas, tacos, gorditos and more, with a variety of fillings. I got the carne asada burrito, while my husband and son got the plate, with asada and carnitas. Rice, beans and a salad of lettuce, tomato, onion, jalapeno and sour cream finished the plate. My buddy did same but he was 4 and 2 should tell you something Service: order at the counter and they bring the food to you, in about 7 minutes. Fast! You pay once you're done, which is good cause you're going back for seconds. Ambiance: hole in the wall. Which are generally best places. Picnic table seating. My favorite authentic Mexican cuisine spot Lexington has to offer. When walking in you are welcomed with an amazing aroma of foods and spices. The staff are all very welcoming and help you with any questions you have regarding the menu. They have a variety of options for all customers and offer things other Mexican cuisines don't serve. I decided to try their carne asada tacos as well as trying caldo for the first time. They recommended the Caldo de Res and it was phenomenal. All the food tasted really high quality and it came out very fast and hot. For such good quality of food the prices are very reasonable and affordable. My favorite thing is their two sauces which gave the tacos so much flavor and it was an amazing combination. Got takeout from here while on a road trip. We got a chicken burrito and a carne asada burrito. Both were tasty. Both salsas were very liquid-y and there weren't many chunks. Just a different style than I am used to but I enjoyed the spiciness of the red salsa. We would stop here again but probably not for takeout. It seems like it would be a better experience to sit down and eat the food immediately while it was hot and order sides and some tacos. All the staff was polite! read more

Authentic Mexican Cuisine establishment! The interior of the joint isn't super modern that's why I'll give it 4 stars. It has a family feel. It has Lots of unique dishes not offered by other Mexican restaurant. Many of patrons frequenting the establishment at least when I visited on a Sunday. The service was very friendly and welcoming, the ambiance was very chill and low key (it's unassuming on the outside but don't let it sway you because these burritos are INCREDIBLE!). My boyfriend and I got horchata and pineapple drinks that were delicious and paired well with our burritos. My boyfriend had the carnitas and I had the barbacoa burrito - both were very delicious. After hearing this place featured in a podcast, I knew that we had to stop here! One of the details that intrigued me from the podcast is their use of Kentucky Proud cornmeal from Weisenberger Mills to make the tortillas. Growing up eating Mexican food before it was fashionable, I rarely, if ever, had fresh tortillas. Getting to have some made with quality local ingredients sounds like a winner. So far this one is the #1 place I've been to in Kentucky. The whole area is kind of a "Little Mexico" with all the shops, so we need to try some of the other spots as well. I ordered the tripas, pollo, chorizo and carne asada. I'd say the chicken was my least favorite just due to it being shredded, but the flavor was very good!! The tripas were quite good, not as good as my favorite place in Cabo but a close second! I WILL be ordering them probably every time I go back. The tacos and burrito I ordered to go was quickly and sloppily slapped together, didn't taste fresh, wasn't hot, and the meat was rubbery with little to no flavor or spice (poor food). The place looks like a dump (poor ambiance) and the lady who handed me my order sounded grumpy (poor service).
