I was waiting on my truck at the oil change place today and decided to get lunch while they worked on my truck. I felt like Mexican and decided to try Maria's Mexican Kitchen. While it wasn't bad, I also was not impressed by any stretch of the imagination. The mood was casual, and service was friendly, but the food was, simply put, just average microwave Mexican food. I probably won't be back, there are too many good Mexican restaurants in the Beaufort area, however I will not go so far as to say this place is bad. It isn't, it's just not good either. read more

Really good food but watch out for price gouging!! We recently dined at this restaurant and were absolutely floored by our final bill. One trick that they used is that when one of us asked for a margarita, the waiter smiled, and (as he was walking away) said "I'll make sure it's made top shelf for you". We all just smiled and said great. Foolish us... We did not think that him using the words "top shelf" and us nodding in agreement meant that we would end up with a bill for $17 per margarita... Which did not even give us a buzz. For that price, I want to be sitting on a beach with a margarita that is going to be so fantastic that I am seeing unicorns. Also, we asked for a small queso and received the smallest serving, which a tiny amount of watery queso...$7! We honestly felt that the overly nice wait staff was purposely taking advantage of us. Again, the food is always fantastic, but I guess we need to spend more time paying attention to pricing. read more

This restaurant has changed majorly since the last times we were there and not for the better I might add. The waiter was older and seemed confused with taking everyone's order and a few people did not get what they ordered . My Wife and I arrived before our group so should not been included with the mandatory gratuity. Our server was awful but we still would have given him $10. We have gone there quite a bit in the last couple of years and did not recognize and familiar faces of the Staff. This place used to be great but has gone down hill . Maria's is our FAVORITE!!! I greatly appreciate the hot and freshly made chips and salsa but their white salsa is something special. Even more special is that the employees care! I recently moved but we used to frequent this establishment at least once a week but now I go every time I visit. This last trip they didn't have the white salsa but special made some just for me. Now that's service! Their Baja style carnitas and Al pastor tacos are my absolute favorite but I've had several items off the menu and it's always plenty of food and delicious! Their guacamole is also my favorite! Definitely a recommended place to everyone! The owners have a couple restaurants around Beaufort but Maria's is my favorite. read more

I really enjoyed the service and food at this restaurant. We were sat quickly and then the chips and salsa were pretty much immediately brought to us. The gentleman was understanding as he checked on us a couple of times since this was our first time and needed a minute with ordering. He even started to show my pictures on his phone of orders to help me decide. Lol. Once the food was brought he checked on us but not overbearing. The food was delicious and I had one taco left to take home. Unfortunately my mind was preoccupied of the yumminess of my food that I forgot to take the pre dig-in picture. The food was really good. This is by far pne of the best Mexican restuarants in the area. Salsa for the chips, and the guac were both the best Ive had. Not to mention the giant Rio Grande burrito. Absolutely the worst Mexican restaurant in all of Beaufort and it's surrounding area. The chicken is chopped up in tiny little pieces, so much so that you almost do not recognize that it is chicken. I had fajitas and there was zero flavor. Here is another fact to know ahead of time. They charge you 3 percent additional if you pay with a debit card. Prices here are higher than other Mexican restaurants in the area, a coke is $4.19, portions are smaller and the overall ambiance is just old and needs some TLC. Coming back to write this review thinking I already wrote one about how extremely rude the waiters at this restaurant are. This happened 4 Months ago; my wife and I loved the food here but, for whatever reason, the waiters are just plain rude (with the exception of a few). It's almost if they are bothered to do their job! When asking them for something they always seemed bothered and I'm not sure why. The last time my wife and I went was what completely ruined it for us as we never returned again. The young female waiter rushed to get our order. Another time that evening we asked for a straw at which point she told us they were out of straws. Me being the observant person I am I looked at the other waiters and noticed they had an abundant amount of straws. I also noticed the tables around us had straws. I really couldn't understand what we ever did to the waiters here for them to act this way. If you want absolutely disgusting service by all means go here. Food is great....service is HORRIBLE!!! This place would have easily gotten a fourth star, but unfortunately all the protein in the fajitas - the chicken, beef and shrimp were not seasoned at all. We have found this practice at numerous other Mexican establishments and do not understand the kitchen's thought process here. Regardless of any vegetables, sauces, guacamole or salsas you still need to salt the meat and or seafood. The serving size was generous, and the diner was mostly pleased with his meal after dousing the concoction with a multiple of add ons. The menu harbors the usual suspects but also has more creative offerings often not found in other area restaurants, such as the street elote, huaraches, and deep fried whole tilapia. I enjoyed my enchiladas verdes with homemade corn tortillas stuffed with shredded chicken and topped with green sauce and tons of chopped fresh cilantro. I do appreciate this herb in Mexican cuisine, but the sprinkling of it was overly generous. Luckily, it did not have its usual soapy punch, but rather a more subdued flavor, almost like a flat leaf parsley. For a small town, it's amazing that yet another restaurant serving Mexican Cuisine has opened. We enjoyed it. The service was excellent, the atmosphere charming enough, and the prices were reasonable. I would return, but would have my eyes on a different menu choice. read more

Was told by a coworker that this place had some bomb tacos , so I stopped to put their name to the test. The establishment is spacious, neat and clean. We were seated quickly but it's took 15 for our waiter to take our order for margaritas and water.. I had to flag someone down to tell them we were ready to order. The Margaritas were quite tasty and potent. The Tacos the 5 I ordered and destroyed were ok.. A month ago we asked to speak to the manager because this place deserved 6 stars. This evening I'm giving it 1 star and that's for the music! The waitress was sitting and socializing with other a table of friends. More interested in that than working. Her fellow services were busting it and also picking up her slack. I feel terrible but that girl needs training but you cannot train lack of ambition. Now I have to say the food was tasteful but lukewarm. Not sure who's fault that that was. I would give them 5 stars for the food easily the downfall with them is they see you walk in and act like you're invisible I work in the complex and twice yesterday and today went to get food. Not only do they see you they look you dead in the face and pretend their busy when the reality is they aren't doing anything but must have some kind of complex when it comes to speaking English or have an issue with black ppl. We frequent Maria's regularly. They are always friendly and the food is delicious. They do get pretty busy with take out orders sometimes so they tend to forget who is standing at the front waiting for their food and who is coming into eat You might have to just make it known. They are not staffed to keep someone at the front at all times. Other than that, it's a great restaurant. read more

Ordered food to go on the website , when we got there to pick up (20 min later ) we were rudely told they didn't get an online order . Then went back to actually check me said it was being worked on . Orders 2 kids meals ( 1 cheeseburger and 1 chicken nuggets) both were substituted for a burrito and hard shell taco without asking , so we had to go somewhere else and buy more food for our kids elsewhere. Went there tonight 11/27/21 ,herd alot about this place so wanted to try it. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!! Food was cold when it came out they gave us a bunch of crumbs for chips , the sorry excuse of a waiter sat us at a booth that two very small kids could get into, asked for another he said there weren't any . Mind you that there are only 10 couples in whole restaurant , then he brought our food and it was cold asked for eating utensils and he brought us plastic ware , asked for metal fork he said they don't have any , so asked then what are the people eating with at the other tables " oh we just ran out" so I called his bluff and said that there is no way a restaurant with only 10 other family's of 4 could run out of silverware. He proceeded to stomp of with an attitude and walk 5 steps and get them off the tray they were sitting on and then tried to tell me they were just brought out by bus boys. I don't know who runs this place but the staff needs to learn some respect for their patrons . Oh and he never came back with any refills so when he so rudely threw the tab on the table and it had a gratuity added in to it I subtracted that gratuity and left him cash and a quarter tip , maybe next time he will learn to be a little more professional in his work. But there's not gonna be a next time for me I will stick with LA nopolera or LA hacienda for Mexican food this place needs to shut its doors and close down for good. RANT OVER..... read more

This place is actually pretty good. Having spent most of my life in the Southwest, I love Mexican food. The bean-queso dip was not great. The queso was good but there were no refried beans in it. If there was, it sure didn't look like it as it was white and really runny. That said, we will definitely go back! read more

this by far is the worst service experience ever!!! the waiters are super rude. i have eaten at this restaurant several times and i have never had a good experience with the waiters. seems that they get bothered by anything you ask for. if you want to make a change they rudely say they cant do it. we asked the waiter to make a change and he said that was not possible, but the time before that he changed it. i asked him why were we able to do it last time. he said ok just this time i will change (very rudely). you ask for something and its as if it bothers them to help. why are they waiting tables if that's their job? i went last tuesday and this was the cherry on top. the lady was bothered and she rushed our orders. i asked the lady for a straw and she said we are out of straws. my husband then noticed that every waiter had straws in their aprons, and then he asked for a straw. she said we don't have any!!!!! every table had its drinks and straws!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i felt as if it were discrimination and i am hispanic!!! i left 0 tips!!! i will never return to this restaurant and i will make sure to let them know how they mistreat people. we were regulars, but they always made us feel uncomfortable. their job is to attend to people with great service and attend to our needs. just disgusting!!!! im embarrassed to know that is our hispanic community. disgustingggggggggggg!!!!! read more
