I went here with my mom & nephew a couple of months ago and while it was good I just thought there are other places in the area that have better ribs, imo. My ribs were cooked so much that the bones were actually breaking in half when I picked up a rib. So when I went to eat one the cartilage was coming off with the meat and then I had to fish it out with my fingers. I get that ribs are eaten with your fingers I just didn't like having to fish out the stuff that wasn't meat. My nephew had shrimp and grits, and they were very tasty but they apparently leave the tails on the shrimp and I know a lot of places do that for the aesthetic but actually it just makes it harder to eat. You can't get a spoonful of shrimp AND grits without having to take the tail off first. So then your hands are covered in the gravy and maybe some ppl like it that way, we don't. My husband will eat the tails but he's the only person I've ever known to do that. Our waitress was very pleasant, I wish I could remember her name but it's been a couple of months. Their green beans were outstanding!! They were roasted and I throughly enjoyed them. I would go back again and probably try the pulled pork so I don't have to worry about the bones & cartilage of the ribs. They also didn't take the silver skin off, I prefer it off but maybe some ppl like it that way. Also they corn muffins that came with our meals were burnt on the bottom. We've been here several times for dinner and found the BBQ to be pretty good, up until our most recent visit when it was not so. I ordered a rib plate with a side of coleslaw and a side of potato salad. The ribs were dry and did not taste freshly made, they tasted like they had been reheated. The temp on the slaw and the potato salad was at room temperature - a VERY DANGEROUS temperature to be serving cold salads at especially in this weather! My husband had the burnt ends which were also not very good and the kids burger was undercooked. Given all the food safety concerns here - I don't think we will be back! An even more disturbing scene were the bathrooms. Both the men's and women's rooms had their doors propped open with fans blowing odiferous air out - it smelled strongly of methane gas that was so bad it made me gag and it was impossible to use the restrooms in that condition. Seems like there is a broken or clogged sewer pipe. The experience was so unappetizing and again I would question the health, safety and sanitary conditions of this restaurant. read more

This place is just consistently a stand out BBQ place. The interior is very nice, tables are spaced out enough to allow conversation. Service is great. They aim to please! Cocktails come out quickly and so does the food. And the food is honestly outstanding. Great BBQ meats done in house. The beef is done a day ahead so it can marinate (or whatever that's called). The sides are all amazing, too, from the standards like collards and mac'n'cheese, to the inventive and seasonal specials. The location is a bit tucked back from the road, and really beautiful. Great environment for a low-country meal. The staff are very welcoming. Reservations necessary. This place books up quickly. We ate at the bar (happy this was an option) and couldn't have enjoyed it more. Our bartender, Nisha, was fabulous and treated us very well as she was doing double duty. She was very attentive even though she was a busy girl behind the bar. The food was so good. My husband got the brisket platter and it didn't disappoint. The bbq meat was delicious, my favorite was the pulled chicken as well as the bees knees cocktail. The burger was insanely salty, and was cooked to well done despite being asked for medium. When we arrived there was only one party seated and no one at the hostess stand. When we were at our table waiting for our food we could hear the wait staff yelling into the kitchen about the substitutions my husband asked for his burger. Owner was insulting, rude and belligerent. Absolutely embarrassed me in front of all the patrons and my guests over a (confirmed) reservation when we arrived (on time). While I did have trouble setting the reservation from 2 to 4 on line, I left a note and my phone number if there was an issue. I have never been talked to like that at any restaurant in my life. He claimed he had to re-seat everyone but there were 5 empty tables for 4 that remained that way during our entire meal. Good ribs and sides. You pay a lot for barbecue. Probably just personal taste but I like my bbq from a shack with a cutout sheet metal sign. Preferably rusty with a grade B from the health dept. but if you like white tablecloths under your smoked meats this is your place as the food is indeed very good. read more

We had four in our party. Greeted and seated nicely. We love the interior. It is different than most smokehouse joints. RH serves good meats and delicious sides with a little more of an upscale (??) flair. Restaurant tables and booths with woodsy feel. Lighting isn't blaring so that was spectacular. We went with another couple, family meetup. There were also Date-Nighters and a birthday party + couple of casual diners. All were smiling and service seemed on point. Our waitress Deanna was fantastic! Two hot brisket - very good! Two others got diff kinds of ribs. YUMMY. The sides were plenty and super. Tastes are tastes and there are so many. My (now) wife and I went back in the fall of 2018. I'm deciding to review this now because I just spent a half hour reminiscing and trying to figure out where we ate. I still remember the day very vividly. We were visiting Charleston and Savannah for the first time, and on our in-between travel day we stopped along the way in Beaufort in the afternoon. We were both hungry and it was a Monday night, and this was literally the only place on the way that was still open. We got in about 10 mins before they were due to close, but they were still very happy to serve us (we were the only people inside). We've had a lot of good BBQ in our day and I remember being very pleasantly surprised by such an unassuming place. The inside looked to be quite "upscale" (for lack of a better word) for a BBQ joint,! which normally look pretty dive-y in my experience. Maybe it was because we were so hungry, but we both really liked everything we ate. Right around this time I also went from being a BBQ hater to considering it amongst my favorite cuisines (I won't go so far as to say this place was what started my BBQ kick, but it certainly might have been). Either way, to this day, whenever I think of a stereotypical Southern BBQ place (in the middle of nowhere with good food), this is the place that pops in my mind. I'm glad I finally figured out the name of the place (thanks to Pokerface episode 3 for making me hunt it down). Definitely would like to make it back at some point! read more

I am a local and wanted to try this place for a while, it got mixed reviews and now I know why. The wait staff was the bright spot, young lady was pleasant and fast, Host was not pleasant at all and was really a negative. The food, well, mixed review at best. My partner had the special prime rib. It was medium to medium well and the waitress told us that ahead of time. Flavor was good and good smoke flavor. I had a brisket and chicken combo plate, both meats were terrible, brisket was dry, and cool temp. The chicken tasted more like boiled than smoked and then shredded and tossed in a mediocre sauce. Neither worth having again. The sides were no better, the "special" Mac and Cheese, burnt ends was terrible, watery, very little cheese flavor, I mean, craft Mac and cheese has more cheese flavor. But the most disappointing thing was the damn salad before the meal. It was a house salad, nothing special, and it had old mealy tomatoes in it, they tasted rancid and disgusting. Why you need a reservation to eat here befuddles me. A family of 4 was turned away because they didn't have a reservation. Come on, this place needs someone to eat this food because this was my first and last time doing so. read more

This place is a hidden gem! We feel lucky to have found it!! It's got the best meat around!! We don't eat a lot of meat either, but this place is amazing!! We've been there 4 times, each time was a home run! The quality of the food, and the prices, just unbelievable!!!! It feels like you are going to a friends house, but better! It's got a nice feel to it, not very crowded but still good to make reservations!!! Great and friendly service, great portions, and amazing flavors!! I couldn't even tell you about the food because we never made it that far. Came in on a Friday for dinner and when someone finally acknowledged we were waiting for a table we were told very rudely that they probably couldn't serve us because we didn't make a reservation. There were plenty of empty tables within sight so after sitting waiting for about 20 minutes we walked out. We ordered the devilish eggs which were good and ordered the burnt ends. They were cold and not charred at all. Took forever for the waitress to come back and check in on us. She took back the cold burnt ends and brought us some warmed up ones. We ordered our dinner. The brisket was dried out, the pulled pork was room temperature, the bbq chicken dried out. The only thing that seemed cooked correctly was the smoked sausage and pork ribs. I understand Covid19 is effecting all small restaurants but if you open at 5 you should be staffed by competent bartenders, cooks and servers. Def won't be coming back. My husband and I are regulars at this restaurant and we absolutely give it 10/10. It's a great ambiance, be very inviting and the atmosphere is calming to be in. We typically sit at the bar because after a long week working, there's nothing like a Raspberry Pomegranate mule and an Apple Butter Old Fashion from the bartender Chris! (which the Apple butter recipe was made by the Host/Manager David), and both of those drinks are something you can't leave without tasting! Tod, who is the head chef has always picked out our appetizers and our entrees and he's never missed on the selection down to the quality of the food. I know this review is lengthy, but that's just how great the food, service, quality and ambiance is at this restaurant! Best Rib-eye literally I ever had . 12oz of pure joy. Medium rare was perfect... flavors true to perfection. Garlic mashed not overpowering served hot. Haricot vert ( type of green bean served al dente. Wine list small but impressive..some smaller producers included. Needs Improvement-Prime Rib only served Rare or Medium Rare- not fair. My husband enjoys medium +. Obviously kitchen has a way to up cook. Also a printed after dinner drink list would be great read more
