If you haven't been to Maria's Mexican Tacos, you are missing out!!! I always see their food truck around Auburn. Mostly in the Home Depot or Crooked Lane parking lots. Their main location is in Auburn off Bowmen Road. Biggest landmark I can refer to is Foothills Bowling. Today is Wednesday! Perfect day for tacos!! Before I walked in, I checked out their menu on Yelp. Carnitas tacos is what I was here for and the Yelpers have spoken!! It pretty much says I must come here for the best tacos ever. At the register, I ordered with Jennifer a carnitas taco, asada taco, and she suggested the quesa barbacoa taco. I did say only cilantro & onion for toppings. She put the salsa on the side because she told me it was pretty hot and although I had a Starbucks in hand, she asked if I needed a drink or water cup. Which I appreciated, because I am a huge water drinker! She brought me some complimentary chips & salsa, too. That salsa was tasty! I only waited 5 minutes and Jennifer brought me a plate with 3 tacos, consume, and hot salsa. There was lettuce on 2 of the tacos, although I only wanted cilantro & onion, but oh well. I started with that quesa barbacoa, and dipped it in the consume... ***OOOOOH LORD IT WAS SOOOO ***DELICIOUS!!!! That consume was so good, too, that I could've drank the rest of it, lol The carnitas taco was next. Sooooo GOOOOOD! IT WAS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS CRAVING! I'm not a big fan of carne asada, but I had to try it. It was delicious too! MARIA'S MEXICAN TACOS WILL NOT DISAPPOINT!!!! Next on my "to try" list here will be the Chile rellenos burrito... and I am drooling just thinking about it. I got to meet Maria. I thanked her for my delicious food. Some of the best Carnitas I've experienced. Perfect light crunch and tender. Diced up into small pieces. Not overly grease. Vector for the Carnitas was a regular burrito. Outstanding. Not an SF mission type. More like a traditional lunch burrito from decades ago. So good. Fair Warning - they add lettuce. Multiple taps of good brews available. Bam! Super delicious al pastor and carnitas. This will be a regular stop for us on our way to Tahoe as we charge at the Supercharger across the parking lot. There is a nice shades patio with cooling misters so we could have our dog with us. The red salsa that came with the chips was saucy in consistency and truly flavorful. Maria used chicken for the al pastor this day and it was so moist and savory. Service was exceptionally friendly. read more

We were staying in Auburn just down the street from this Mexican Cafe. We saw the sign and the big building so decided to stop in and eat dinner. We were a bit shocked when we found that it was a hole-in-the-wall spot and more for take out. No service as you walk up to a chalkboard inside and order and there are very few tables inside. Usually I run for the hills when I find a dirty restroom but since we had out dog we decided to sit outside in the patio. I did like that the patio was covered from the heat and they had sprayer with droplets of water to keep it cool. Once inside, it was very confusing. You walk up to the cashier and make your order, but the menu on the wall is hard to read and it seemed everything is al-a-carte. They do advertise that you get free chips and salsa but they don't offer much as the little basket was half full. And the salsa is super hot so take care with the kids. We got a Super Burrito ($16) with nothing else on the plate. And two tacos and extra side of beans for $11. Not a lot to eat for an almost $40 bill after the drinks and extra salsas. The food was okay but not great. Next time we will go to a regular Mexican Restaurant and get a plate full. read more

It been over a year now since we are staying in auburn for the moment. This place always gave our appetites a full meal. Service was very wonderful I called ahead to see if they have any cause normally we stop by they always ran out the lovely clerk very nice I love her smile and she knew exactly it was was on that called in for the porky tacos. Inside was still nice and clean outside seating was perfect for the heat weather. First the food was delicious. I got a regular fish burrito. When I asked what kind of fish I was told Bass. I believe it was sea bass and it wasn't fried, it was sautéed I think & superb. I was asked if I wanted hot or mild, and told hot was habanero. I ordered mild and ended up with hot, but it was banging. I'll probably pay for it tomorrow. My wife got a wet chicken super burrito and it was huge and delicious. The food took forever to come and with great apology we were told there was some confusion in the kitchen. Really like 30 minutes is crazy for simple Mexican food. Service was polite and friendly. Ambiance was your classic run down Mexican joint. Authentic for sure. I would give them a try again but since we are local I will give Madi's in Colfax a try first. read more

Stopped in Auburn on our way to Tahoe and was worried there wasn't a chain restaurant to eat at. Wow we would have missed out! Maria's has the friendliest staff. Regulars came walking in at lunch and were greeted by name. The patrons were consistently remarking at how good the food was. After we ordered, someone picked up his burrito to go and remarked at the (big) weight of it. We got four kinds of tacos and the special (shrimp ceviche) and it was all fantastic. We chose to stay at the motel up the street and wanted to keep our money local when we stopped in for dinner on Friday afternoon. The building beckons a nice sit down restaurant, however it's just a taqueria with a bigger than average room. The offerings are simple and straightforward. I ordered a steak fajita platter and my wife orders a beef torta. She is extremely allergic to all things dairy and that was communicated to the woman taking our order. I ordered hot salsa with my meal. The torta came without cheese nor sour cream as per request but the bread was lightly toasted with butter. Easy enough - we asked them to redo it and it came back in half the time it took to set up the original. (did the cook just take the ingredients and put it onto a fresh roll after being "buttered" originally?) Well... 20 minutes after we left - we found out that likely that is exactly what they did because she encountered the gastronomical problems that occur when even the slightest dairy product is ingested by her. THANKS guys - when we asked for no dairy whatsoever; it is for a reason. Oh - by the way... my steak fajita platter was delivered to me as a chicken platter and I requested no beans, just rice. Sure enough there was beans on the platter. I said nothing at the time because while I wanted and paid for the steak - sending back one plate was enough drama and it's not like I can't eat chicken - which by the way was pretty good and tasty. I dont know what happened to this place over the years but it is painfully slow. Half way thru waiting for my order, the kid comes out and tells me they are out of lettuce. How does that happen? Does nobody notice the supplies are running low? I normally dont support local business but i was on my way home from Roseville and wanted something fast and easy to pick up. Was that a mistake. I am going to be honest...the food was not very good. I had the chilly relleno plate and it was decent. My husband got one of their specials which was the short rib posole and it was just ok. It was recommended to us by the cashier and we basically just ate our meal to not be rude. I am not too sure what else to say about this place other than maybe we ordered the wrong items to eat. We are huge Mexican foodies and it just did not do anything for us at all. I grew up in a Mexican family where my Grandparents came from Jalisco and Mexico City and I was not impressed. OMG! Run, don't walk to this taqueria in Auburn. People have told me for years that the best tacos in Placer were to be found here. And they weren't kidding! I don't think I've ever had such a delicious carne asada street taco! The meat was piled high, perfectly cooked and seasoned, and not a piece of fat or grizzle to be found. Topped with a generous serving of onion and cabbage, and a delicious salsa that had just the right amount of heat. Washed it down with a cold Pacifico! She said she's a new hire and that explains everything. Why would they have their crabby, rude employee take orders? I don't know why but she should be FIRED!!!! Would definitely check out the restaurant We got carnitas n fish tacos before we headed to the river. The tacos were amazing. Do not trust the bad reviews from entitled Karens. They were really nice at taking orders and was clean. My girl got some shrooms n had the best lunch after kayaking. Later we got a steak burrito which was just huge. I tried my first lengua tacos. I thought it would be like making out with a cow. But they were decent may be needs more seasoning, I would say definitely better than making out with a waitress from dive bars. read more

I had the chance to try MMT at a brewery right as it opened for the day. Frankly, they were pretty slow, and my partner remarked that he wasn't sure how they'd do with a bigger crowd, especially since food orders are currently required with a beer order. They had a good truck menu with enough options to satiate any Mexican food craving. The quesadillas was surprisingly robust and hearty. The tacos were also good, though I don't love mini shrimp. All around 10/10 spot! The location is beautiful and ample amount of space. The food is delicious (got a burrito) and the salsa verde...AMAZING. It's spicy but it has depth unlike salsas I get from other spots. It's worth the burn. The real reason for my rating is the customer service. Have stopped at this Mexican place 2X now, and it's becoming my fav place to nosh while charging up the EV. I love their smoked salmon tacos (2 for $9), partner has sampled both their nachos and a tostada. All all very generous. Don't be put off by the outside- its pretty divey, but is clean inside with a cute patio where you can dine with your pups.
