The flautas here are HUGE! You get two HUGE flautas for $2.75. I was thrown off because they are prepared using flour tortillas, but they were SO good. My only regret is not stocking up on the salsa verde because it is addicting! Maria's is a nice alternative to the corporate fast food chains that line this street. This place is BOMB! My husbands job decided to give them tacos and when he went out to get a few they where all gone. So he called me and was like we need to find a late night taco spot. Pro - Friendly staff and good food. Con - it appears to be a old run down place that used to be Taco Bell. Overall - I like this place. I read some reviews here and some people complain about the staff. I see no such behavior like that. The staff was friendly and helpful. There was one guy who was drunk or high and acting all weird and they still continue to treat him good. They still took his order, serve him food, and friendly to him. Even when I order in person I'll ask no lettuce and pico de galo and the one taking my order on the night shift is always rude saying it doesn't come with lettuce noir pico, I'll ask if she can just make sure it doesn't come with it and you can tell it's a bother for them to press at least 3 buttons on their register. Sad to say that Maria's Taco Shop in Ceres has gone downhill in the past year. I used to love the food but when I had two meals that were below their old standards I quit going. So, today I thought that I would give them another chance. Noticed that they had a sign posted on the takeout window for a cook. That should have told me something. I ordered two Carnitas tamales. I don't know what kind they were after tasting them. The inside was filled with a reddish brown paste with on little tiny shed of a meat. It didn't taste like beef, pork or chicken. Just a flavor of spices that wasn't very good. So disappointed. This was my go to place. Several other owners were at this location previously. Some good and some not so good. I used to go to the taco trucks for a burrito, but last month I've discovered the burrito supreme here. It's so good I could literally eat one every night. Great food, prompt service and friendly staff. Also, they are open 24 hours, 7 days a week. Usually not a bad place stop by at least once a week, they almost always mess up or forget something but otherwise ok but tonight i came and ordered chicken enchiladas combo specifically asked for no onion was told it didn't come with it then upon arriving home I find long finger like slivers of onion and red pepper in my enchiladas so I return and the girl was very rude even tried telling me they were always made that way which is news to me and then didn't want to refund or exchange my order. My family and I have been coming to Maria's for years And I'm very sad to say they have truly gone down hill with The staff they have today. The cook was so rude, complaining about our large order and making faces that we could see I must say I didn't take my eyes off him for fear he might do something to our food. The two girls at the counter were also rude. The food is not what it use to be. We have been long time customers especially because we love their nacho But today we were very disappointed. I'm originally from Southern California, and so my tastes for Mexican food are very critical. Although Mexican food in Northern Cali is okay, in the norm it's not as good as my home turf. But Maria's.... this place is one of the exceptions! Food is always fresh and tasty, and there's a good selection. And, it has that authentic Mexican quality that I'm used to. 5+ stars! We thoroughly enjoyed our chorizo breakfast burritos. Thank you, Maria. We were visiting some friends for the weekend, and wanted breakfast burritos before driving home. Surprisingly, not many taquerias around the Salida/Modesto area. We drove around for a bit until we found Maria's. So glad we did. All of the salsas are bomb. Had the chance to talk to Maria for a few minutes. She's been there for 28 years! And, they're open 24 hours. If you want delicious, authentic Mexican food, definitely check this place out. Disappointing, I get there around 5PM, it wasn't busy I order a burrito and a drink, well the got the drink right I got my order to go, this is always the thing, I shouldn't have to unwrap my food at the pick up counter to see if they made my burrito correctly there were ingredients inside I didn't ask for and ingredients that I asked for missing. It was a 4 ingredient burrito I watch the cashier punch in the order I had to tell her 4 times what I wanted on it and they still got it wrong! The chicken had not an ounce of seasoning just bland. If there was an option for a negative review, that's exactly what I'd give! I visited over the summer and it's taken this long to write a review because it has been too emotional to write one. I usually don't write reviews unless the establishment goes above and beyond or the opposite. I can't even think of the words to describe my experience .. my cousin, who visited this restaurant in the past (before this incident) so we were brought there to grab a quick bite after being at the hospital hungry for hours. Everyone seemed nice and we paid and we sat down to wait (forever for our food). We got a call that we needed to get back to the hospital. We had asked for the food to go in the first place, but I guess they lost the memo! Yo make a long story short, we asked if they could pack it to go and that must have had a shortage on containers, because this obviously struck a nerve.. the breathing started and scolding us stating we already used dishes. After they finally decided they would pack it to go after we threatened to refund it and leave it, we asked could they include the chips & salsa . They really became irate and said it's for dine in. We reminded them of how much we just spent patronizing their establishment and we got a call that our sister was passing (mind you they are making us wait even longer). We expressed the urgency and we're basically in tears by the time we left, because we knew they didn't want to return the money and they didn't want to cooperate. We pleaded with them and told them we were sorry and couldn't help the fact that the hospital called us to come back and that we lost our sister! While standing there waiting on complete ridiculousness! No apologies, no remorse, no cooperation... just a cold stare and smirk, with a response "That's not our problem!" I cannot believe someone could be so cold hearted and blatantly evil! That was traumatizing in itself, not to mention we had to deal with the fact that she slipped right out of our lives and we were at this dirty (filthy) establishment dealing with utter nonsense! Had it not been for my cousins, I'd never had dared to eat at this establishment in the first place, and if my cousins hadn't paid, I'd had gone back with law enforcement the next day to demand a refund! They should be inspected and be shut down! Not because of their poor service, but because of the disgusting facility. I know they must have roaches! I haven't had very many item here but let me just say if you like Menudo this place has some of the best that I've had. The worst food I've ever had from a Mexican Restaurant. The tamales was completely dried out, couldn't chew it. The chili relleno was greased soaked. The enchilada was gross.
