My dad and husband swear by this place due to its menudo only. Please stay away!!! This is the most disgusting place I have ever eaten at. Everything is watered down from the Jamaica to the guacamole it was soup on what they say are rolled tacos. The horchata only had the taste of cinnamon. I gave it a chance because you never know if a whole in the wall is going to be the best food ever. This place is gross. My dad paid over $60 for pure garbage! Food is good, BUT customer service is terrible. Forget about placing orders online OR by phone. Online order systems go down and can't find orders so try calling in a to go order. Apparently they can't get that right either. When coming at the pick up time the order is NOT there and nowhere to be found. Asking if I called the right place? And showing on phone the number is right. Telling me it must not have saved so have to place order again, and wait for it with the attitude because of course not happy order was lost and never existed. I was physically assaulted by a male employee this morning. The employee placed the wrong order for me after I verified the contents of my burrito with him 2 times. I always order a shrimp burrito with extra rice and shrimp, sour cream and cheese. This guy added pastor to the burrito. I didn't realize it it until 2 hours after getting home. When I brought the burrito back, we argued and then he came from around the corner and slugged me very hard in my right shoulder telling me to get out. There was 2 female employees behind the counter and a male customer standing watching the entire ordeal in the front lobby. I then called the police. This guy has totally crossed the line this morning! Now I have to go to the hospital because he hit me so hard that my shoulder is still hurting and the attack happened 1 hour ago. read more

I use to love Maria's for years I've came her but the service with attitude all the time from weekend workers I'm done with. we order food and one order was wrong. we asked to confirm the order we placed. The female worker Mariam came from behind the counter to our table to tell us she repeated the order to us and we should pay attention it's not her fault we got the wrong order. Lol seriously? Literally disgusting! The meat was crunchy, nasty, and the parts that weren't burnt were rubbery and had a very weird taste. I pulled out the crunchy burnt parts and there was nothing left. After pulling it apart I felt sick and it all came up and out, what a waste of money! I used to come here all the time when I lived in the area and it was pretty decent, but now I can't even understand how they are still in business seeing the other reviews before me with people having similar experiences. When I first started coming here food matched the service, excellent over the last year after the pandemic .. the food is still great, but the service lacks enthusiasm or friendly encounter of any kind, it's like what do you want ? Amazing shredded beef crunchy tacos & chilaquiles with chorizo! Good service & always hot!

Let me start by saying I've been going to Maria's on & off for 10 plus yrs. The only consisted thing there would be the tamales. Yesterday I was craving a chorizo potato breakfast burrito so I went to Maria's. The only request I made was to really put a good crisp on the tortilla which the cook did perfectly. Today my father-in-law said he wanted another breakfast burrito like the one from yesterday. So we head to Maria's order the exact same breakfast burrito as yesterday. When we get home I find that the tortilla isn't crisp at all, actually really soggy, plus the amount of potatoes is minimal complete opposite of yesterday's food, but why? Why the difference from yesterday's cook & today's. The cooks should be able to make each dish pretty consistent with one another but that's the problem, they don't. My father-in-law was really upset that the cook didn't crisp the tortilla at all but said that she had. Also I worked in the restaurant-bar business for 15 years so I know the food should be consistent when any cook is preparing a dish. read more

Ordered from this place Friday night, it was our first time ordering here. My boyfriend and sister got asada tacos, and I got the chorizo nachos. We were starving, and I wish we hadn't been because I probably would not have ignored the warning signs! Went to Maria's Taco Shop on August 13 at 2:15 AM and decided to eat there but we didn't know that Maria's Taco Shop allowed beer after hours. Yes we know that Maria's Taco Shop sells beer and bottles but I mean these people were bringing in beer in a box as you can see in the picture they are drinking in cans Michelob Ultra the cashier didn't tell them nothing at all. I thought Maria's Taco Shop was a restaurant to eat.. these people were drinking like it was a bar a pick up joint. Finally the cashier told them something , but also let's make it clear. When I went to go place my order, there was a big mistake I only ordered 2-tacos, 1-regular burrito, 1-small drink, 1-large drink, how in the heck did it come out to $61.50?! Your worker at Maria's Taco Shop was charging me wrongly and for someone else's order who was charging me for those peoples order who were drinking and having a sex orgy at Maria's Taco Shop on August 13, 2023 that night! Yeah, you heard me correctly they place the order and didn't pay for it! And when I went to go place my order, he tried to charge me for the order.. it wasn't a restaurant to eat in. It was a bar a sex club.!! those people drinking went to the side of the restaurant to have sex outside on the side of the Arco gas station just right outside the door of Maria's Taco Shop, the cashier finally told them the man and the woman they both could not do that outside the door of Maria's Taco Shop. Yes, I know cause I heard them. Yes, I am upset first at your cashier for trying to overcharge me for my order he didn't even apologize for the mistake and my mistake was not calling Modesto Police for them having open containers of alcohol close to 2:30 in the morning..
