Besides, even if it was the food is way worth it. Everything they sell here is delicious but their Menudo is "just like mom makes" good! Little hole on the wall but the very best sopes in Pomona or anywhere at least for me. Been coming here for a while. Moment I walk in the door the chef already knows what I'm going to order. I was driving by and needed bite to eat. I was hesitant to go inside at first because there was nobody eating at this place. I walked in and ordered chicken sopes. They were delicious. Best I've had. The service is excellent and fast. Their menu has a lot to order from. Nopales, Tacos, enchiladas, Mexican breakfast. Price is cheap. Lots of specials and deals to choose from. The food was so good and the bakery in the restaurant was a wonderful exploration into the many delicious Mexican baked goods. I've been coming here for over a year now and I have to say that I love their breakfast specials and lunch specials, but I must admit the only problem that I have ever encountered at this establishment is burnt chorizo and I have ordered the chorizo and egg plate at least three times and all three occasions the chorizo was burnt. There are several reasons to visit Maria's Tacos. The food is pretty solid--not spectacular, but solid. The consistency and quality seems to have suffered a little after the actual Maria had to leave the business. The same cook is there, but they've tinkered with ingredients and recipes, it seems. For example, the chile verde burrito used to be so very, very spicy and so, so delicious. It is still good, but far more mild (though they'll still warn you about the heat) and the sauce isn't quite as tasty. The chips and salsa are good and present in an abundant, serve yourself manner. My boss digs their carne asada burritos, but I'm lukewarm on them. I usually get al pastor or a custom veggie burrito that is pretty awesome: just ask for a burrito vegetariano con papas fritas (not french fries, though) al dentro. If you want it wet, go for it, but either way it's worth ordering. The cook will probably eyeball you because it'll ring a bell in his head that hasn't been rung for a while. read more

My buddy and I each ordered a Burrito Supreme for $5.99 and comes with a drink. My friend got beef and I got pork. It came out to be $7 after tip. I love their fried pork, it's meaty, has a great crispy texture on the edges of the meat pieces. My buddy and I noticed that the beans do have a strong presence, but it's not overwhelming. The coolness and creaminess of the guacamole and lettuce is nice. Staff is really friendly! The Bad: They charge 50 cents for using credit or debit cards. It was completely empty at 7 PM on a Friday night. They did NOT refill their chips and salsa so we didn't get any. The tortilla of the burrito is a LITTLE loose and wet/juicy, it did fall apart at the end The Ugly: Nothing ugly. The Verdict: It's kind of out of the way to come here, but the food is decent. They have a buffet on Fridays for like $6, I might have misread that, but I would love to try that some time. I would not go here all the time because other places are closer. First off I asked for them just the meat only and they made them into the works my mom got two tongues and one asada while I got three asada. The asada tacos where pretty much brunt to the max (still trying to get the taste out of my mouth) the thing that made the it even more horrible was the fact that they added some sort of spice to it that made it hard to even try to enjoy the tacos. So freaking spicy, and brunt meat that's what we had. I called them to let them know how bad the tacos where and the guys response was "what do you want me to do about it?" I'm sorry but when a customer calls and complain you don't give a answer like that. You know what you could do? Have better costumer service, and better tasting food. You can offer me a refund, so I can spend my $10 which I threw in the trash because your food was disgusting. I wouldn't even feed it to my DOG!!! Walked in for lunch and it was VERY hot inside the restaurant. There is NO A/C unit there. The door to the establishment is kept open and ceiling fans are running. There were flies in the restaurant (which I did not notice until I sat down after I had already ordered my food). The table I sat at was sticky so I moved to another, which was also sticky. Ordered the #18 Combination plate $7.99 which includes rice, beans, 1 cheese enchilada, 1 chile rellano, and 1 al pastor soft taco. The plate was brought to me at my table by the cook. The plate was hot and the food temperature was hot. The side of the plate that had the chile rellano was very watery. The entire chile rellano was watery. The rice was dry. The beans lacked flavor (and probably lard). The cheese enchilada was a little too much cheese for me and not enough sauce. The al pastor soft taco was average. The tortillas were heated up too long? They were crispy on the edges. The meat had a nice taste and wasn't over bearing. I also ordered a large jamaica drink $2.00. It was very watered down. There is one bathroom with graffiti on everything in there including the toilet seat. The floor was all wet surrounding the toilet. I don't know if it was urine or a water leak from the toilet itself. I decided to not use the bathroom and just hold it until I got back to work. Overall I would rate the place 2 stars. Yes, I am Asian. But I would like to believe that little Mexican in me can tell when I have great Mexican food. Maria's has AMAZING Mexican food. If you aren't really paying attention on the road, you really do miss it, because it's in the corner, in this tiny little plaza that I basically drove by almost everyday and still ignored. I am sad to say, I spent most of my first year in college eating at Albertos, thinking that was the closest Mexican place I could find. Maria's was introduced to me by my friend, who suggested it when I had an incredible craving for some real Mexican food. I went in, and it was sort of empty, which usually scares me off in most restaurants, but the food smelled good and I was hungry. The guy in front was super nice, and when I explained to him that I just wanted a burrito, he suggested a wet burrito combo. It was cheap. It was delicious. It was enormous. It was everything I could ever dream or wish for in Mexican food. I come here all the time now, determined to try almost everything on the menu. This place is DELICIOUS! I had a carnitas burrito on a Yelp run of Pomona... it was surprisingly good. Then a week or so later we went back and had three tacos and a drink (only 2.99!) of chicken, beef, and pork. They were your regular sized, classic tacos but all delicious with great sauce. I didn't have enough cash the first time I went. They usually charge 50 cents for credit transactions but were nice enough not to for me since I just was a few cents short in the first place. I only heard of this place from a buddy that used to live at the pine club, he mentioned a legendary giant burrito that cost around 5 bucks. I figured it was time to slay this beast, which I did. Marias tacos is another gem in pomona and is excellent for more than one reason, first of all its close to Cal Poly Pomona and while many people gun it down valley to beat everyone to in-n-out and chipotle off valley/grand I stealthily go the opposite direction. This place gets slammed during lunch hour but whats great is there 2.99 for 3 tacos and a small drink. is this some kind of sick joke? no its just local hole in the walls that still know how to satisfy clientele without making them go broke. your dollar goes alot further here, ill be honest ive had better tasting meat but its still quite flavorful and worth it. and the free chips and salsa bar is what seals the deal for this place. Brought my girlfriend here one time for lunch after class and we both got the lunch special (which let me add these arent stingily made tacos theres too much meat in them which is ALWAYS good), cost me less than 7 bucks for the 2 of us...i spend that much on chipotle when its just myself. and before anyone says well chipotles burrito is huge im going to have to say marias is not only equal if not bigger but also filled with alot more meat. To top if off they serve menudo and posole 7 days a week; something that most Mexican restaurants only do on the weekends.
