We ordered the bundle meal last night. It came with a Caesar salad with delicious dressing on the side. Then a large portion of chicken picatta over pasta. Served with cheesy garlic bread. Lastly the dessert of the day which was baklava. Said it serves 4.well worth the price. There was plenty for all. It was delicious and we are looking forward to trying another bundle meal. We hadn't been to Maria's in years.. Obviously a huge mistake..Everything was so delicious.. I had the cod and my husband had the fruiti di mare. We just had dinner here. We got the 3 courses for $29. My wife and I ended up getting Penne Alla Vodka, Chicken Parm, Mussels in tomato sauce, Calamari Fritti , Cannoli and Chocolate Chips Skillet. We didn't really have high expectations because of the mixed reviews online but want to give them a try. The service was good. Food came out in a reasonable pace. The staff packed up what we couldn't finish. The portions were huge. I thought that since it's a special it would be a small serving size. The Penne Alla Vodka had a rich tasty sauce. The Chicken Parm was yummy. It came with two pieces of chicken in a rich cheesy sauce. The pasta was perfectly Al dente. The calamari was crispy and well seasoned. The mussels were fresh and had a tasty sauce. The desserts were sweet and delicious. Overall, a great deal and amazing experience. Would recommend for anyone read more

Service was very good. Waitress was wonderful. Ambiance typical, nothing special. Popovers were a nice surprise but they were overcooked. Eggplant rollatini app. was good and left me hopeful for the entree-chicken piccata with ziti which was honestly terrible. Others in my party ordered spaghetti and meatballs. How can ANY Italian restaurant mess that up?? Meatballs were literally inedible as there was some spice or something that tasted really off! Something was really wrong. We sent them back and they kindly comped them. Other dishes may be great, but I won't be giving them another chance . It was a holiday weekend, so maybe it wasn't their usual cookingp staff. Went back for the 1st time since leaving my last review. 1st time I thought it was "ok". This time I thought it was EXCELLENT. Had a special homemade rigatoni with eggplant, fresh tomato sauce and mozzarella....yummy! Huge portion so I can enjoy again tomorrow. You can smell the delicious aroma of well seasoned food as soon as you enter the parking lot. The service is amazing. The mussels were so tender, juicy, and flavorful. The cannoli were the best I've ever had (better than any place in the North End). read more

Just had the nicest meal at Maria's Trattoria. My husband and I sat at the bar for a 'quick meal' on a 'miserable, rainy Monday'. Instead, we were greeted by a friendly, knowledgeable bartender, Denise, with 2 fresh, warm popovers - delicious! She made us feel comfortable right away and we ended up, upon her recommendation, deciding to stay for their lovely prix fixe 3-course dinner. There were plenty of nice choices and we had a delicious dinner and a very nice evening - much better than the quick bite we'd had in mind. We will definitely be back! read more

The new Maria's: good, not great. Satisfying, not impressive. My friend and I came in on a Friday night to check the place out. We started with arancini, which was on special. It was one large-ish arancini that was stuffed with cheese and mushrooms, which I loved. For my entree, I ordered eggplant parm. It was a soft, layered eggplant as opposed to a thin crispy eggplant, which I prefer. I appreciated that the pasta was homemade, which was delicious. Overall, I would recommend checking this place out but don't expect it to be anything like the old Maria's :( read more

On a whim, a group of coworkers and I went to Maria's Trattoria Restaurant in Braintree for a cooking class. Had a great time - a lot of laughs while learning a great deal. Chef Celio and his assistant Mateo showed the group how to mix and roll flour, eggs, water for pasta, which we cut and folded ricotta cheese raviolis. Then, Celia and Mateo walked us through the steps to make fresh mozzarella. The kitchen staff cooked the raviolis, while we made tiramisu cups for dessert. I'm not bragging or exaggerating, but the Maria's staff was able to show our group how to make true, restaurant quality meal. Everything was so simple and easy with their instructions, I felt compelled to try these and other recipes at home. Maria's Trattoria was an entertaining night out with authentic Italian food made from scratch - with my own hands. read more

Not the best service ! We noticed people sitting down after us all had bread when they arrived. We thought they didn't give out bread so we ordered an appetizer with bread tomato oil on it forgot what it was called . Definitely was not bad for an app. It took me to ask what kind of bread is everyone ordering? For the waitress to then say I was gonna ask if you wanted some bread well after we ate our app and was on our second beer. Not a huge deal definitely made us feel like they didn't really care to wait on us etc . Food was okay , my girlfriend got something with lobster in which the waitress suggested she should try. Well it was not good to the point she gave it back and ordered something else . I got spaghetti and chicken parm which was not bad pretty easy to make . Definitely could have been better. That's just our opinion others May think the food is great. We said we would give it another try in the future thinking maybe we didn't order the right things. I'm glad to see the reviews have been updated. Just since yesterday, it seems, when I was initially confused by Maria's Restaurant vs Maria's Trattoria. I was looking to take my 85 year old Aunt and 90 year old Mom for lunch and wanted an Italian restaurant with a menu they'd "recognize". I was a little deterred by some of the negative reviews, one in particular BUT it was close to Linden Ponds where my Aunt lives and the menu appeared to serve up the old favorites. (My husband and I had recently been to Alma Nove which is lovely but so far from a traditional Italian that it was hard for me to find something on the menu that appealed. I knew it would never fly with my much loved elders, starting with the price.) Maria's Trattoria was perfect.The waitress was pleasant, enthusiastic, and accomodating. We shared a Ceasar's Salad, Ravioli, and Fettucine Bolognase, family style. The menu had all the old favorites and the ones we ordered were delicious. The ravioli were plump with a tasty sauce. The Bolognase was a delicious mix of meat and sauce, the pasta properly cooked, not mushy,not hard. There was plenty of food and we even had a small amount of leftovers to take home. We finished the meal by sharing a Tiramisu--divine! Mom and my Aunt had a cup of decaf coffee along with. I abstained as I was finishing the generous glass of red wine I ordered with our lunch. The exterior had undergone a well needed facelift making it much more inviting than the pictures had indicated. The front bar area looked recently renovated as well and was nicely updated. The back however still had that great old Italian restaurant "vibe" right down to the mural on the wall. My aunt kept commenting on what a nice outing it was. I agree. Servers were great. We sat in the back room which was a bit more 'formal' than the front bar area. The food was great - arancini appetizer was really good and the calamari was a huge portion. Drinks were also great - Pomegranate Aperol Spritz was a hit along with the red sangria. There was a mishap on one of the entrees which was ordered as eggplant parm and recieved chicken, but the entree was good, the pesto pasta was also noticeably delicious and the squid ink pasta with tuna was good, too! People really love this place but it wasn't for us. The good: the beet salad and the eggplant roll appetizer The meh: the entrees. My husband got the shrimp Alfredo. The shrimp were way over cooked and rubbery and the Alfredo sauce was thin and watery and fairly flavorless. Nothing special. Actually kind of gross. I had the champagne salmon. Good but average also a pretty small portion for the price. Not something I would order again. Kids cheese pizza, also not remarkable. Excellent service just not great food. However everyone around us ordered the chicken parm and I feel like we missed out on trying this dish so perhaps we ordered the wrong things. So much for replying on the reviews. Authentic Italian food? I think not. I've made a lot of Italian food.... I've eaten a lot of Italian food...and Maria's restaurant is NOT authentic Italian food. Let me start by saying hubby wanted to go here as the reviews showed it was a really great restaurant. Finally, we went. I will start by saying it is a very dark restaurant and the ambiance leaves a lot to be desired. But...I always say I'm here for the food, not interior decoration. They seem to have a lot of older clientele. We did not see any younger people in the restaurant but maybe it was the time we went. Hubby liked what he saw on the menu prior to us going there and noticed the "Ipswich Clams" on the menu online. He is a nut for clams and when he saw Ipswich clams on the menu, he really thought he was in for a treat. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. She brought us some bread and butter. I started with a Cosmo which was clearly made form a mix. It had an off taste and did not taste like one made from scratch. It's made with vodka, triple sec, a splash of cranberry and squeeze of lime. That's all you should taste. I make them all the time. They are super easy and there's no mistaking a freshly made one. It was very warm, so I added the ice provided to me, which I never do. I decided to go with the Ravioli Parmesan. I also ordered the clam chowder. It also came with a salad which was a good size for a side. Hubby ordered...you guessed it...the Ipswich fried clams.....Now he did ask the waitress if they were actually Ipswich clams before ordering them to be sure and she said yes. He also ordered the Chicken Soup. His soup was very good, obviously homemade. The clam chowder was not homemade. My salad came and it was sufficient but I feared I would be too full to eat so hubby ate some of it. It was Iceberg lettuce with a good-sized tomato, green pepper and onion. The meals came. Mine had melted cheese on top. It came in a casserole dish. I tried to scoop out some ravioli on to my plate with a little cheese, but the cheese was so rubbery all of the cheese wanted to come off of the top of the casserole. Then when it was on my plate it was very difficult to cut. The ravioli was just the square ravioli you see frozen like Mama Rosie's in the grocery store. Worst of all was the sauce. It had a very weird consistency and was supposedly meat sauce although if it was meat, it was do pulverized it wasn't funny. The sauce was tasteless. I've made a ton of different sauces in my lifetime and I swear this was canned. I don't know if I could have ever got the meat so purified. Hubby got his clams that he thought were going to be Ipswich.....He said they were so tough. Like the membranes were still on and the necks were like rubber. He said they were horrible and knew right away they were not Ipswich clams. This is one description of an Ipswich clam "a meltingly tender soft-shell clam body surrounded, belly and all, by a crumb coating that, when deep-fried (preferably in lard), becomes a salty, crunchy-crisp casing for the soft and sweetly briny clam inside".......The clams he was given were completely the opposite of that. Why would anyone advertise something they don't have and serve you something they don't have? Do they think you won't know the difference? I don't like being conned and lied to by anyone and feel like the $60.00 with tip I paid was a rip off. The only thing that was good was the soup so that's some expensive soup. I'm sorry but anyone who thinks this is "authentic Italian food" and a 4 star restaurant is crazy. read more

I had heard mixed reviews but we tried anyways and it is awesome! I think people are comparing it to the old Maria's and you can't it is a completely new restaurant with new owners. The menu is more upscale than the old Maria's. We even got takeout as well as dined in and both were equally as good. We've had little neck clams and linguine, ravioli, penne ala vodka, pasta fagiole, pizza, salads and not one thing was bad they were all phenomenal! read more

What a gem of a place! As a teen we all loved Maria's. The basic Italian dishes introduced us a cuisine we never got in our Irish household. I was sad when they closed, but their rebirth as a Trattoria was brilliant! The setting is so classic, white tablecloths and impeccable service. The best thing was their revamped menu. A lot of variety and our meals were exceptional; the Fettuccine Boscaiola with peas, sausage and mushrooms was delicious! My husband got the Vade Il Cibo which is seared scallops & shrimp served over native corn and creamy risotto. He is still raving about it! We will be back! read more

Went there to eat with FCS smoky last year and oh boy was it a treat! Service was A++++++ we were treated like we had been there every week for 30 yrs! And the food was incredible! These people are thieves! We were there with my in laws who are in their 80"s. My wife and I had 2 glasses of wine each, my father-in-law had 2 cape codders and my mother-in-law had 2 glasses of prosecco. The food was great, no complaints there but my wife and I were charged for 2 bottles of wine each instead of 2 glasses! The in laws were getting nervous about driving home in the dark, and gave us a $100 gift card they had, and I paid the balance. I thought it was high but didn't question it in front of them. Turns out when we finally got home I looked at it closely and found that I was charged $60 for 2 glasses of hess chardonnay and $84 for 2 glasses of bortolussi pinot grigio. We were charged for bottles of wine instead of glasses. I wonder how many times they do this to Senior citizens. My best friend and I decided to try the new Maria's Trattoria at 240 Quincy Ave., Braintree, MA, It was delicious from the Calamari appetizer fit for an army, tender and cooked to perfection. I ordered the Lamb Ossobuco, it was perfectly cooked, with real saffron risotto and spinach, it was phenomenal. Joanne ordered the Risotto fruititi Di Mare, with little neck clams, shrimp, mussels and cuttlefish, fresh tomatoes and risotto, with a subtile hint of heat, Amazing meal, that literally melted in your mouth. We both shared a, very ample tiramisu with mascarpone cheese and tied it off with a fresh cup of espresso with a twist of lemon. I give this restaurant 10 stars Our server Emiliano was the best!. My husband and I used to go to Marias a lot way back when it was the original owner and the food was great ! We decided to try Marias under the new management for the first time and it will be our last. The food was not good and not Italian at all. Food tasted like an amateur trying to learn how to cook Italian food for the first time and is still trying to learn how to cook. The spaghetti and linguini pasta look weird and cheap and is not good at all. Never seen pasta like that. We ordered Chicken Marsala with spaghetti noodles and Shrimp Scampi and it was the worst Chicken Marsala and Shrimp Scampi I had in my life . My husband also agrees as we love Italian food and eats Italian food all the time but this by far is the worst Italian food I had in my life. Chicken Marsala taste is off, very watery and diluted and is bland and under seasoned . The same for shrimp scampi. I make better Chicken Marsala and shrimp Scampi at home and honestly probably my 9 years old son at his age can cook better than this restaurant. The complimentary bread and pesto that was served was not good either. The bread is not the right bread for pesto as it's cold and is way too thick and pesto is so sour tasting. Overall , we were very disappointed in our food and this place is a one and done for us. It'll go down in history for me as the worst Italian restaurant I ever eaten.
