I loved the patience of the server, who got confused when I told her I wanted to eat in but wanted to take water to go. Note to self...Portuguese folks want to have their "to go" as "takeaway." What I also didn't know was that there was no place to sit!! I scooted down the counter just like all the other folks to watch the bakers prep the next gozillion pastries for the day. I'm a fan of a higher custard to crust ratio and this definitely hit the spot. Remember to add a bit of cinnamon on top to bring out the custard flavor more. There are three queues: one for sit-down service, one for the historical counter (whatever that may be, we didn't stick around long enough to check that out), and one for takeaway which is the fastest and basically had no line, where you can take one or four and enjoy them in one of the nearby parks. The restaurant walls are adorned with beautifully designed blue tiles which adds to the warming and communal theme. Now to start, the pastel de nata here is pretty amazing. First, you have the multiple layers and crunchy, crispy texture from the buttery crust. Then you have the delicately whipped sweet custard which practically melts in your mouth. What takes this to the next level is adding a punch of cinnamon on top, which gives it a punch of warmth and is satisfying on the palate. To mention the mango milkshake, it was ok but I would call out that it didn't have much sweetness to it as I assume the mangos used were not fully ripe. That would be the one piece of feedback but otherwise, it tastes very bright and refreshing which is perfect for a hot Lisbon day. Fun signage and a covered glass enclosure showing off all of their amazing baked goods. Our cold brews with oat milk were smooth and delicious and the croissant with scrambled egg sandwiches were huge (2 meals for me) and the eggs cooked to perfection. Prices were a tad higher than what we've had in Portugal thus far at mom and pop cafes, but still less than in the USA.
