Fara was great when Nick owned it. It is now run by incompetent, rude management. Long story short. They diagnosed my problem, and then took three days to "fix" it. These guys are amazing. I had a nightmarish experience. Parked in the JJC lot. Spilled a drink in the backseat of my BMW which shorted out the electrical system. No power, stuck in park with the parking break on. Triple AAA a total bust. He couldn't start car and ordered a tow truck. Tow truck couldn't move it. Faras sent 2 technicians who despite their best efforts couldn't start it. Third tow truck of the day finally dragged it on the flat bed. Faras fixed everything. Charges were beyond reasonable for the effort. Biggest cost was a part from BMW. I hesitate to think what they would have charged for the entire project. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR TO BE FIXED HERE! I took my car in for an error code that had two possible fixes- they tried to uncharge about $200 more than what it should have been, and required negotiating/talking down. Definitely a place they're trying to take advantage. Then the original problem wasn't fixed properly, and of course the actual hours aren't posted, they were closed all weekend, so I had to take my car somewhere else. I approached politely afterwards to negotiate getting a refund at least for the labor cost, since the problem wasn't fixed. They dodge calls, say they'll talk to the owner, and not follow up. I see there are lots of good reviews but I had the worst, dodgy, sketchy experience here and I would never recommend this place. read more

Nick and William regularly perform maintenance on my vehicles and they are always upfront and honest about what needs to be done, what should be done, and what could be done to prevent sooner than necessary returns. Depending on the work I typically get my car back within a day or two and am never disappointed with the work done here. I'm not sure if this shop is under new ownership or not, but what a pleasant surprise from the old station that was here "Lucky's". It is very clean and has a gorgeous red white and chrome facade and clean, open garages. I haven't had a chance to use their services yet, but I understand the owner is a well-respected automotive teacher at our local college. Also, important to note that for repairs they're open on weekdays, but not weekend. The gas is pay at the pump and 24/7. We went to Fara partially in part due to the good reviews we saw. I'm not sure what happened, but our experience did not mirror any of the reviews here. They did not give us a proper quote, charged 169 an hour for labor, which is very high for a mechanic. Nick told us it would be about 300 plus a little labor. We picked up my truck to a 750.00 pricetag. I tried calling because it was so outlandish and ridiculous, but he was rude, talked over me, and would not listen. A few months ago, the Truck broke down on a trip and had to have barings replaced. That mechanic said we would have to fix the evap at some point, it would be about a 300.00 fix, but wasn't something we needed to do out on the road. When Nick said about 300, and that matched what we had been told, we in good faith agreed. We were so blind sided by the amount he charged for his labor. He should have warned us and allowed us to decide once we knew the actual cost. Bait and switch is the best term I can think of. I don't recommend them. read more

So here is the skinny. This just gets worse and worse. As I wrote I my first review, not only co I try an support small independent businesses, in part because the are more affordable than corporate businesses but the staff and owners are often more accommodating. This business flat out lied to me and not only did they lie but the overcharged me for shoddy work. I'm disabled, live in abject poverty yet still give to my community when and however I can. So not only did this list not take my van for a test drive, missing the very obvious stuck brake caliper but I had asked him to please repair my windshield wiper squirter on the passengers side. I'm going to love reporting this POS to the State. He tried to super glue parts together, and then attempt to make it more secure with a bread tie. This pathetic excuse for a mechanic did not could on the rain storm we had. He didn't count on his masterpiece of failure to fall apart and certainly he probably hoped I would never notice. He callous attitude and lack of work ethics could have resulted in an accident. If it had, he would be getting a call from atto!! It's too bad he did not think to just get some tubing to repair the nozzle in a half assed manner instead of a pathetic one. So. I hate doing it, I love writhing good reviews, love a good work ethic and honest business owner. He hot no positive marks at all, basically as far as I'm concerned stole $500. from a poor struggling disable woman, if he kicked my puppy, he would have rounded out his scummy personality and los life business practices. So, what I will be doing, and hate the thought of, is I will be reporting him to the State. Avoid this place, they have no work ethic, don't mind l you I got to customers and may just put your life in danger by doing sloppy work. These folks are terrific! We (the whole family, in a tailgate) were on our way to Samuel P. Taylor for my grandson's 4th birthday party and had just left the house when our "tire pressure" light went on. At first, we weren't that concerned as the car had just been in for a regular maintenance check and all was well. Just to be safe, we pulled over and found a screw in the rear tire. OMG, coolers, balloons, kids, etc....and we have a screw in our tire that needs immediate attention! We pulled into the station, told the guys our dilemma and they immediately went to work to plug our tire and get us on our way. We can't thank them enough for the quick and professional service! I remember this gas station/shop being pretty scroungy for years, but the Fara's have done a nice job with it. I mostly stop here for gas because the prices are always reasonable, but I've come to appreciate how nice the staff and mechanics are, too. There have been a few times where I've needed to add air to my tires or something like that, and they've always been cool about it. Nice to have a place like this in the neighborhood! read more

So surprised that this business could get me an oil change same day after I called in. I have a small cargo van for my work, and they were able to get it done in about an hour. I walked across the street's and sat at comforts café while I waited for the work to be done. Very convenient. I would much prefer using Mechanics that are trained and have experience than technicians at oil changers. These guys were great and did multiple checks on my vehicle. They gave me recommendations and topped off my windshield washer fluid's etc. I would highly recommend them. read more

My brother went to smog his car there, and it didn't pass the Functional inspection, he was told that the OBD2 didn't connect to the computer, he was offered the repair service and he refused since his brother (myself) is certified technician, so I checked his car and his OBD2 is working perfectly no issues, so he asked me to go with him to do the inspection. He was told that since it fail next time he only had to pay $8. So we got there and were talking to the guy who does the smog check so I asked him why did the car fail and he aggressively responded "are u a mechanic?", I said yes am a certified technician, he said "and u can't read?" So I told him that the Functional inspection is A. Engine Ignition Timing B. Check Engine Light C. Gas Cap & Filler Neck D. Exhaust Recirculation Valve (EGR) E. Fuel EVAP Test (LPFET) And that on the paper he wrote that the OBD2 was not working and it couldn't connect to the state computer so I said it connects to my computer there is no issues with it and I said don't be upset the reason why am asking is to understand why it didn't pass because maybe my brother didn't understand correctly. So at the end he was super rude and not helpful at all he wanted to charge us $40 plus dollars to do the test again, to which we didn't agree. To me it was a rip off just to fix a issue that it didn't exist and make some money we went to another smog place after that and the car passed the smog check without issues. Am definitely contacting the BAR and requesting a BAR inspection. read more

Being new to the neighborhood, we saw that there were great reviews about this shop so we decided to take both my husband and I's car there for repairs. But, we had been scammed and treated so poorly we have to share. I took my car with a complaint of a whistling sound coming from the engine as was the same issue with my husband's car that they had fixed about a month ago. I was told that it would cost double what my husband had paid for some reason and was told that there was an additional issue with the water pump. Since, he had already ordered the parts to fix the belt and had opened up the car, I told him to repair the issue with the belt and to fix the whistling sound thinking I'll go somewhere cheaper to repair the water pump. Little did I know after picking up the car, the whistling sound persisted the day after with the sound getting louder. When I went back two days after, I was told by the owner who already seemed distressed with his wife on the phone with another upset customer that "he didn't have time for me and my car this week and to come back next week" practically yelling. Almost speechless I was pulled aside by a female mechanic there who was watching all this and she explained to me that I shouldn't wait too long to fix the problem with the car as it could have serious consequences. Baffled and scared, I took my car to the another mechanic down the street who explained to me that whatever work they did with the belt needed to be done all over again if he were to work on the water pump, not to mention trying to diagnose the real issue of the whistling sound and the overcharge of changing just the belt at Fara's. Moreover, my husband's car started making the whistling sound now about a month after its repair. We spent about $2000 to have no resolution to both of our cars not to mention being mistreated by the owner who couldn't control his temper. We resolved that this place is not even worth the headache to work with for our own sanity. read more

Nick, the owner, is one of the most honest people you will meet. I have a 2006 Chevy Silverado that Nick has worked on several times. His prices are always less than neighborhood competitors and half the cost of the dealership. The most important thing you should consider is Nick does not upsell needless repairs once he gets your car in the shop. Instead, he will let you know about any obvious repairs that need to be addressed and he will give you a price to fix it. He doesn't pressure you or insist that the repair needs to be done immediately. read more

It's never convenient to have an immediate need for an auto repair, but Nick and his crew saved the day. Mine was a cooling system issue and the diagnosis was a cracked plastic part in the system. The car was still able to run and the proper part was ordered late in the afternoon with assurances it would arrive the next morning. Nick made sure the part was there, and I made sure the car was there, too. A promise of a few hours of work was fulfilled. The car runs fine. The cost reasonable. You can't ask for more than that, and a lot more convenient than driving up to Novato to the dealership for what would have likely been the same job at a higher cost.
