On May 12, 2026, I purchased Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Moisture Mist from this store in Vintage Oaks. I discovered that the contents had a rancid smell and there was debris floating in it; it's supposed to smell like cucumber. I went back to the store to inform him that the product had expired on May 2018 which I discovered by calling the 800 number for Paul Mitchell. He insisted that there was nothing wrong with it and I suggested that he smell the other two products on the shelf. They smelled and looked the same. He kept insisting that they were fine and refused to take it back and give me a refund. This is a serious health and safety issue and I seriously caution that you not give this person your business! read more

I should have listened to others. This place is one of the most high strung, uncaring places I have ever been. They upsell everything and push hard. To the point where I was uncomfortable and just said yes to get out. When I calmed down and came back to return the products they pushed on me (unused and unopened) they refused. I have never felt this way about a service I have received. Tony gives 0 cares about you. It's all about the sell. To be fair, the haircut was decent. My hair looks good. But my experience was so bad that the idea of going back makes me upset. I came in for a blowout and was upsold on hair color to cover a few grey hairs. I recently purchased some hair molding paste. I KNEW I was overpaying but I wanted it NOW. When I got home and opened the container it was hard as a rock. You couldn't even get any of it on your finger to put in your hair. I must have been on the shelf for YEARS! I have used this stuff many times before and it is like paste...not cement! I took it back, with the receipt. The guy, Tony, was rude and insisted that it was okay. He couldn't even get some on his fingers...he tried. He wasn't interested in any accommodation, or any future business. His products are OLD, OVERPRICED and "buyer beware". He says "no refunds". Must be a reason. As other reviews have said, the new owners are extremely pushy. I told the owner I didn't need gloves, he put them in my basket anyway (I removed them). He then gave me 6 packets of color remover - I only needed two. I told him to remove the extra packets. And, no refunds or exchanges. Everything is final sale. We've had many terrible experiences there that we gave them another chance for- all egg on our face. Today, my 14 year old son is nearly at tears for the awful cut- very different than what was asked for, $60.00 waisted, and we had to get it "fixed" someplace else after. Previously Tony bleached my daughter's hair so badly we left speechless, and then I had to fix it- which was more time and money, and I am not a hair stylist. Then multiple times, bad cuts. And the chaos between Tony and his wife - awful experience. Stay away from here. I tried to talk to him today, and he wouldn't listen to anything. Which is their problem- they don't listen! Just talk talk talk and do what they want- then over charge you, while you leave speechless and in shock. Lovely stylist give you party hair everyday. They even carry gluten free hair care products. The shop has a nice selection of products and a full staff of stylists. Surely, you can find one who can fill your need. Hannah will fit you in to her schedule at any time and Rachel will give you the latest style! There is a manicurist on staff however I never see her when I'm there. I know she works as the ladies give her glowing reviews. My 17 year old daughter went in yesterday to get assistance with purchasing supplies to color her hair. They told showed her some products and told her they didn't recommend she color her hair because they said it would look cheap! She's 17. Wants to have a little fun with some hair color. She told them she would think about it and promptly left. She and I went to Sally Beauty supply in San Rafael today. We were promptly greeted by a friendly and knowledgeable person who showed us the products we should use and instructed us on how to use them. We purchased what we needed and left happy. I recently moved to CA and searched everywhere for a hair salon. I have very thin Norweigian hair and it takes someone really knowledgeable to cut it right. Most, try weird layers that make my hair look thinner. Knowing this I was hesitant to try a new salon. I'm so glad I did! Tony did a wonderful job! My hair looks amazing! He also colored it and gave me an amazing color with highlights that looks natural and didn't damage my hair. They also sell hair products, such as kendra, that are hard to find. I have gone twice for a cut and color and will continue to be a loyal customer. Update- I just read the other reviews.. I have visited this salon several times both for hair services and to buy product. I have never witnessed Tony or any of the other hair dressers ever being rude or harsh to clients, in fact they have always seem to go out of their way to ensure the customers are happy. TERRIBLE. SELLS EXPIRED PRODUCTS KNOWINGLY! The woman who initially helped me was nice and informative but when I got home I realized that the dye I was using was expired after already starting my hair and noticing that it wasn't the right consistency. I have been purchasing hair products here for some time, but no more. A week ago I purchased shampoo and conditioner and was not verbally told that the sale was final because it was a "special". The conditioner I bought sticks to my hair like glue, and I would think that any reputable business would understand that no consumer wants to keep a product that is not right for her. All I was told (by two different sales people) that the return policy is clear. Well, clear enough for me to take my bucks elsewhere..... and I will find a new salon to do my cuts as well. 2 Days later... OK, this message got to the owner who graciously offerred me to exchange the conditioner for a different product. That's good customer service, and I appreciate it. I have been going to this salon for many years for haircuts and to purchase products. After my last visit, I will never return again. The new owners are beyond rude. If you want to purchase products you are followed around and they won't leave your side. Returns or exchanges are not accepted with no exceptions. The owners are very rude to the hair stylists that have been there for many years and treat their customers terrible. You are told that you MUST sit in the lobby area (cause they want you to purchase products) until you are called for your haircut. If you are not getting a haircut from the owners then you receive dirty looks and glares from them. I don't understand how an owner of a business can we so rude and disrespectful. She is one of the top hair stylist i every met ; with professional skills, warm-hearted, she also provides the most favorable service i've ever had. She cut the way i want, and the high-light she did on my hair are always marvelous. Everyone should give it a try, especially the "Ombre highlight" she provides. She did a great job not only on hair-highlighted, and also trimming, blow-dry, with real organic, non-chemical product . Also, she is knowledgeable about hair protection product and she will show you how to keep your hair healthy with the less-expensive but effective product. I needed highlights bad-- I had an awful case of mommy hair. I quickly yelped hair places in Novato and found that someone had wrote a review on Tiffany Nguyen from Marin Beauty Company. I wanted to get highlights, but was also interested in the Ombre look, which can be done about 40 different ways. I sat down with Tiffany, who asked me some questions and quickly came up with a game plan. Furthermore, I also had a time constraint because of my babysitter. Tiffany was quick, efficient and left me with excellent highlights at a very reasonable price! Went for a haircut for the first time in 10 years because last time I went for a haircut they took so much length off that I was scared of haircuts ! Well I bit the bullet and decided to go in for something very small! My hair was very long and thick , (about to my butt In length.)I went in and said I wanted to keep the length , just to do a little layering in the very front to frame my face , nothing else ,.... Well tony cut my hair super short (what feels extremely short to me) , it's a little passed my shoulders now ! As I remember I only asked for some layering in the very front to shape my face , not a entire haircut and length taken off like he did! Went from very long thick hair that was at my butt to now hair a little above nipple length when In front of me ...feels very short and thin to me now! Very traumatic experience for me along with it being way overpriced, $125 plus tip !!! Who knows how long it will take for me to get this kind of length back now.... Tony the new owner, is a master at highlights! He was extremely patient and accommodating while trying to cover a Balayage done at another salon. This was not easy to do! I didn't like the contrast of my dark roots and the overly beached out streaks. Wanted to try something new, but it just didn't work for me. Tony wanted to be sure I was happy, so he spent extra time to get my hair exactly the way I wanted. It took two sessions to get all the dark roots, and now my hair looks great! read more

I sure wish I had read the other yelp reviews before shopping in this establishment. The new owner, Tony and his wife are only interested in making a buck. They certainly don't understand the first thing about operating a business successfully with repeat business or with ethical business practices. They have a policy of no returns or exchanges, which they don't clearly state to you when you are making a purchase. On top of that, they are extremely rude and pushy. My only hesitation in writing this scathing review is that there is a wonderful hairstylist that works there and has for many years. She has a large clientele, which I am sure will be loyal to her regardless. I can guarantee you that this business will not last long in Novato. They do not seem to understand that Novato is a small town and that word of mouth travels quickly. I too will be reporting them to the office at Vintage Oaks and the Better Business Bureau. I went in to buy a new shampoo and conditioner, they had a decent stock but the male owner as well as another employee were EXTREMELY pushy. I am familiar with hair products and appreciated his concern but he followed me around the store until I agreed to purchasing something. I had to tell him nicely at least 4-5 times that I could figure it out myself and he did not get the hint. He kept insisting to buy a bunch of product. He kept asking me if I was going to buy something. I told him I was just trying to decide what I wanted and he insisted I bought more than I needed. I eventually got so sick of his input and forcefulness that I left and told him I may be back the next day once I decided what I wanted. He was annoyed and obviously angry that I didn't buy anything and told me he tried to help and didn't know what I wanted. I walked out and went to Northgate to the beauty shop there. I will say Tony did a great job correcting my color and making it look good. BUT, when I initially inquired about price, it was very vague, $125 for this $95 for that, highlights, low lights, etc. With his bravado of southern marin/mill valley clientele, I took a chance. I was very a happy with what he did. BUT my bill was $395 for this service!!!! It took all I could to contain myself. I love what he did but when I called him back to say I was dumpfounded by his pricing, he was annoyed. I asked specically what it would cost to do touch up. I got the run around: what do you want" Hi lights, low lights, etc. I said you just did my hair a month ago, what do you recommend....with back and forth I got a vague $250 - without a haircut, blow dry only. So, beware. If you have an open wallet, great. Otherwise, proceed with caution. I will not be going back as I do not like upselling nor vague pricing and BS. They will push you into products to "preserve the color" which doesn't work either. Great products but to high priced. Better pricing elsewhere. Beware. The absolute worst customer service experience. I booked an appointment with a stylist Rachel, got to my appointment 5 minutes early. She was still working on another customer which was no big deal. While I was waiting a friend of hers came in and asked for a haircut. She turned to me and said, well you aren't my client right. This was my first time in the salon, I was no ones client. Definitely not a way to recruit new clientele. Then she tried to hand me me off to someone else so she could cut her "friends" hair instead.
