During my first two appointments with Frederickson, I felt she had a bit of an "edge," but it wasn't enough to keep me from returning. During my third appointment, her behavior toward me was in my opinion abhorrent. I felt bullied, belittled, and humiliated in front of a medical assistant who was also in the room. As a result I cannot recommend this doctor, especially to anyone with a history of experiencing narcistic abuse or trauma. It's unfortunate because the staff in this office have always been extremely friendly and helpful. read more

I went to Kim Frederickson for several years and liked her but had a problem with a procedure which she refused to make any attempt to correct in an utterly arrogant fashion and refused to even attempt to get Medicare authorization because that would have entailed admitting to a mistake, which apparently her ego wouldn't permit. Exceeded my expectations! Wow!! Dr Dalton was able to solve my skin/scalp ailments. My skin and scalp looks/feels great for once! He is my skin hero. Dr Dalton is inconsiderate and incompetent. His pre-op explanation of the outcome was completely false and his stitching created a scar twice as big as it should have been. He then charged me $80 for a 10min post op visit to discuss the mistake he made and displayed zero empathy, no compassion and wouldn't even acknowledge his part of creating the issue. read more

I found Dr Dalton to be knowledgable....but. I have Kaiser Insurance but seeing a dermatologist is a nightmare so I called all around Marin to get one wart frozen off. The older receptionist who answered was very nice and explained pricing to me. I just went in for my appointment and another younger receptionist was working, can you say "frosty"? Anyway, after my appointment, I saw her ringing up the charges for my 4-minute visit. When the bill comes out higher than my telephone quote I asked about it I was met with "Phone quotes are only quotes". I tried to explain but got an exasperated "He used a different code to bill you and gave you 10% off". I said ok, I'll pay and this and this will be it. I really wanted to take my forms with me and tear them up. I will not return to place who feels you are out of line for asking about your bill. My search continues..... read more

Dr. Frederickson is top notch and I cannot recommend her highly enough. She has been my dermatologist for years. Her office is clean and efficient and the staff is pleasant and accommodating. I can only think of good things to say so I'll stop there. read more

I had an in-office procedure and when I feared that it wasn't healing properly I called and asked to see if Dr. Fredrickson or a nurse could look at it. The person who answered the phone was very reluctant, but I was worried about infection so I got my appointment. Dr. Fredrickson seemed put out and the whole encounter felt very uncomfortable. It was fine (although I have a scar), but the overall I thought it was handled very badly. I asked my primary care doc what she thought and she agreed that patients should not be made to feel uncomfortable for worrying about infection. Also, for reference, I had 1/4" mole removed by a dermatologist down in So Cal and I have no scar. So I think maybe Dr. F could have done better on that front. So that was the last time I saw Dr. Fredrickson. I now go to Dr. Knott in Mill Valley and she ROCKS! I mentioned the Dr. F incident to another doctor and it turns out that she also goes to Dr. Knott too! Trek down to Mill Valley, it's worth it. read more

Avoid this place at all costs. I went in to have them look at some skin tags and growths on my neck and back. During an extremely rushed visit (literally about 5-6 minutes, which seems the norm, according to other reviews on this site), I was offered an out-of-pocket service to remove the skin tags for $250, in addition to the insurance-covered procedure on another growth. I was told it would take a couple of months for them to fall off on their own, but most of them had not after over 3 months. I called, and they told me the only option was to PAY ANOTHER $250, since there were NO GUARANTEES. I asked the receptionist to verify with the doctor the cost, and she said she'd check and get back to me in a day or so, but it's been over a week with no response. On top of this, the receptionist has been pretty curt and rude since the beginning of my experience in the office. I strongly suggest avoiding this office at all costs. Judging from the other reviews on this site, this practice seems to also miss serious, possibly dangerous conditions because of their sub-par work. I also suggest reporting your bad experiences here to the Better Business Bureau, which I have done. read more

Dr. Frederickson is the shining star of Novato Dermatology! ( I am personally a big fan of Nicole the medical assistant as well.) I have seen her staff come and go, for the most part they are kind, but as other testimonials have pointed out they are not always warm and cheery; Personally, that is fine. They have always been competent and organized in my experiences--which are quiet a few at this point as I have been coming here for about five years. That said I do NOT recommend making an appointment with Dr. Dalton as he is the only person in this facility that I have ever truly been displeased with. I saw Dr. Dalton for a brief period when Dr. Frederickson was very busy. He did not ask enough questions, made too many assumptions, and allowed my painful skin condition to worsen before addressing it properly. (He wrote prescriptions before taking a sample to see what my infection actually was--and because of this my condition was left untreated for longer than need be!) My experiences with him were such a shock considering my long list of positive experiences with Dr. Frederickson. Dr. Frederickson has incredible bedside manner and comes across as genuinely invested in your wellbeing. I honestly can't sing her praises enough and I am very grateful to have had her taking care of my health. I have had multiple procedures in her office and she has always been gentle and considerate of my inability to handle incisions/injections. She will answer all the questions you have and explain your options which to me feels more collaborative than 'commanding.' (An unintentional attitude which I feel happens all too often with medical professionals.) All in all Novato Dermatology is a great place to receive care (as long as Dr. Frederickson isn't too busy!) read more

I broke out with a rash, thinking a simple remedy to get it taken care of will do. I am NEW to this office... and I don't care if you have a PHD, you don't know my body, you don't me, and you only take 10-15 mins to talk and figure out what is going on. They don't attempt to test you ..but just visually analyze your situation basing it off what you say and that is it. They are so not welcoming... not warming... they make you feel like a NUMBER!! That is it. They don't care... because they did it for so long, they think we are all the same. Ridiculous. I DO NOT RECOMMEND GOING HERE. If you want to feel well taken care of... this is not the office to go to. Do your research. Trust me! I value my time and the Dr. time but if you show no compassion or care why should I pay you for my time with you. The cure took a little longer because I wasn't following strict instructions with the cream. That I understand. I was annoyed that she says i am to use the cream as long as she says it's ok. Like she has the control over me. Noooo that doesn't work that way. I hate feeling unimportant and leaving the office feeling that way. read more

The Good: - Nice building - Convenient location The Bad: - Poor customer service - Surprise bill I have some bad acne scars (more like dents) on my face and I wanted to get them filled, so I scheduled a consult with three different doctors who do injectables in order to determine which one I felt would meet my needs the best. This was the last doctor I went to see and was my least favorite. When I explained what I wanted and he gave me his recommendation, but I felt it was a not good fit for me at that time. I thanked them for their time and went on with my day. No charge was solicited at the time of the visit. Later that day I received a call about how I would like to pay my bill. MY BILL??? I was shocked to find out I had a bill for a consultation. None of the other places I went to had a consultation fee. I called and explained that when I made the appointment I was never told there would be a fee for the consultation. In addition, when I arrived for my appointment and filled out all of the paperwork, nothing about being charged was ever brought up. I even told them their website does not mention a consultation fee. The office person's response was "We never said it would be free." I asked them to waive the fee and their office lady said "no." Needles to say I will not be going back to this company and I don't recommend them. Please save your time and money and skip this place. I prefer Dr. Delgado who is also in Novato. He has a wonderful office in the Sutter Medical Center in Novato, a very helpful receptionist, a free consultation, and no surprise bill. read more

I called Novato Dermatology on a whim as I had something that needed to get checked out right away! Because of the nature of my visit I skipped going through my PCP as I would have had to wait for a referral and approval from insurance... In explaining this to Novato Dermatology they understood and said they would do what they could to minimize the out-of-pocket (and they did!). Additionally, after explaining the nature of my visiting they got me in the following day in a small pocket they had available. The Visit: The receptionist was on top of it, she was kind, she offered me water, and had my forms ready to fill out upon arrival; I was barely halfway done and the 'nurse' or derm assistant called me in. He let me finish my paperwork and took his time reviewing it and... can you believe it? -He actually asked me for more detail! What a nice thing to hear from someone in a Doctors office... Dr. Dalton joined soon after and took his time asking me questions as well. He not only looked at my questionable-area but took his time to further question me and addressed all other concerns I had. Also, he took the time to give me a proper full examine as well which was not expected and a pleasant surprise considering they squeezed me in. He asked me to return in 6 months for a follow up and to get in touch directly if I had any further questions or concerns. This was my own experience, surely others might have experienced differently, but from what I could tell Novato Derm has a strong team and makes going to the doctor far less painful. I came to the novato spa because one of my close friend recommended Medical Aesthetician Suhair Hattar. when i went inn for my consultation she was the most wonderful and caring person i have ever met, Su explain with significant detail what was going on with my face and how i was able to change the appearance of it. After giving birth to my first child my face became oily unstable with dark spot on my neck and face and worse of all i had the biggest pores that nothing were able to minimize them and my makeup would always look overly oily. I had bought many over the counter products that were recommended it will help the oily skin i had and the pores, but nothing work. Until i started treatments with Suhair were i have seen a big progress in my face. since my first treatment i saw a big difference in how my face was not being oily and my pores were looking better , i recently did my second treatment and omg my face is smooth pores are not visables my face looks healthier and my darkness i had on my nake its almost gone, im so greatfull that i found an amazing person like Suhair and if your dealing with any kind of issues with your skin come to the Novato Dermatology Spa , she will guide you through the right treatment that your skin needs, and will be there with you through out every step of the way. Called to book, got an appointment in less than a week, did my paperwork online... Got to my appointment, front desk didn't even check my online paperwork and just shoved the intake forms at me without a word, so I let her know that I had done the online, she was at least kind of excited that I had done it... So whatever... Had my appointment, nice Doctor, professional procedure... On my way out I hit the front desk to pay and ask for a receipt they gave me my payment receipt... Which just a receipt showing the card was charged for the amount... Uh... "Can I please have an itemized receipt please?" Her: "Uh... Once your payment is processed maybe the bookkeeper can send you something?" "Never mind I guess"... It's not just me, this is weird... You did a procedure, and when I get out and you are asking me to pay I should have had an itemized invoice slid across the counter before I even pass my card over to be charged... Nothing fancy... Just like: Consultation...... $ Procedure...... $ Total..... $ Because now I feel like you just made up an amount... Annoyed! The bottom line, the procedure itself was great, the doc was personable and professional... But their disorganized front desk/admin could kill their business... First, the care I've received here has been great. Dr. Dalton is professional and knowledgeable and Sue, the esthetician is fantastic. She is caring and is a skin care superstar. The poor rating is purely for the front desk staff who are, frankly, shit. They are rude and unhelpful. Whenever I call to speak to Sue, there is ALWAYS a noticeable change in the tone of voice when I'm transferred over and they refuse to cancel or reschedule appointments for aesthetics. They never smile when I go in and seem bothered to answer any questions, even when I went in to see Dr. Dalton. I don't understand why a business would do nothing about their rude desk staff. I'm not the only reviewer to mention their general unhelpfullness. I have purchased a skin care/facial package but after I've finished them, I won't be returning even though Sue and Dr. Dalton are fabulous. The awfulness of the front desk staff is enough to put me off forever. read more

First of all, I have to start off by saying how much I love Novato Dermatology and out of all the dermatologist I have had, the ones here take the cake for sure. I have always had breakouts, scarring from those breakouts, and my skin has just never felt healthy. Due to my lack of knowledge I knew I needed another addition beside The great Dr. Frederickson. That when she recommended me their amazing medical esthetician Sue Hattar. She did not let me down at all. She exceeded my expectations by far. She has elevated my skin care routine and brought my skin to its highest potential. When i tell you my skin has never looked or felt better, Im telling you my skin has never looked or felt better. I have years of scarring that has vanished. I feel totally comfortable not wearing make up and BEST OF ALL, she actually listens to my concerns and gets to know my skin. She is such an incredible soul and has so much knowledge about skincare. She is truly amazing and will never be able to thank her enough for changing my skin and health.
