The 2024 remodel of my San Rafael home was the largest home construction project I have attempted, and this is my 4th house. I am a certified Project Manager and licensed Mechanical Engineer, so I know what good project execution looks like. MKC is the best residential contractor I have worked with in my 30 years of home ownership. MKC employs a process with heavy emphasis on planning the work up front followed by quality execution by the craftsmen. Scott (owner of MKC) honestly strives to land each project with the highest quality work done at a reasonable price. My project was mainly to remodel a kitchen and master bathroom. Additionally, we removed two walls (one load bearing), replaced 1/2 the house windows, addressed two different legacy structural issues, replaced fireplace, all interior doors, all baseboard and trim, all flooring and about a dozen other upgrades (add ceiling fans, add additional door, replace garage door header, toilet in 2nd bath, etc.). Basically, I received a new house. The work was completed in a little over 4 months as planned adding time for the new scope and structural issues. The cost was as expected. MKC costs were nearly exact to expected. Material costs were higher than planned due to our selection of materials vs assumed. The quality of the work was outstanding whether it was by MKC employees or subcontractors. I highly recommend the MKC team for a kitchen or major home remodel. read more

Janet was always available when I needed to have questions answered. They were excellent and we are so happy with the job they did. I've never recommend contractors because we've been basically disappointed almost every time. They also worked with our budget and found us beautiful cabinets. They have a great sense of design and color and they are a family own business. I really recommend them. It was also nice to have someone understand our budget and try to help. I have PTSD from others doing bad, work or being lazily and unfair. I can honestly say it was a pleasure working with them. Of course we had normal problems that had nothing to do with them but they were patient and understanding. We have worked with Marin Kitchen Company on two major home remodels (in Mill Valley and San Rafael, pre- and post-pandemic). As repeat customers, we obviously could not be happier with the quality of their work and their wonderful customer service. A family-owned company run by husband-and-wife team Scott and Janet Masolo, MKC is a gem of a business that not only delivers on its promises but also exceeds expectations. We've been so impressed with their top-notch work and the professionalism of their team. MKC is a distributor for several quality cabinet and countertop lines as well as hardware, and their showroom offers a nicely curated selection (worth visiting even if you're just starting out and want some ideas). Scott is a general contractor and designer, which gives him a unique ability to see both the design possibilities of a space and tell you the construction requirements and cost to make it happen (a combination of skills that is rarer than you might think). He provides detailed estimates, which we've found to be accurate, transparent, and fair. Scott has literally transformed our kitchens, baths, and other living spaces to not just look beautiful, but to flow and live better according to the specific needs of our family. With both our projects, we got estimates from several other contractors, and MKC provided, by far, the best value for our money (by "value," we don't mean the cheapest but rather the best work for the best price). Scott is well versed in all aspects of design-build and will give you his honest opinion. He also worked within our agreed-upon budgets, stuck to the promised timelines, and communicated clearly when things came up (as they do with any remodel). Bottom line: we haven't found a contractor with more integrity, knowledge of his trade, and better sense of aesthetics and design than Scott and would trust him with any renovation project. Janet is also lovely to work with. She is great with countertop and hardware selection, and with her pleasant, down-to-earth demeanor and thoughtfulness, she always makes you feel welcome in the showroom (our son and dog love visiting her!). If you need a new major appliance, you can't find a better dealer. Anyone can sell you a product, but few can maintain a service relationship for years after the purchase. I had a 2020 washing machine, a year out of warranty, that died. That's just not right. it required repairs that amounted to 75% of the purchase price. I complained to the manufacturer's customer service department, but the rep was indifferent to my plight: "sorry, out of warranty." In frustration, I went back to see Marin Kitchen to see what, if anything, might be done. Janet went into action. Through her good offices, my complaint was forwarded to the Quality Assurance department, a group unavailable to me, a mere retail customer. They acknowledged that the circumstances were extreme and replaced my out of warranty machine at no cost. Marin Kitchen went above and beyond to help a client in distress. His foreman, Roger, a gifted craftsman in so many areas, was highly proficient in the carpentry, electrical, plumbing and installation of every appliance in our all-Miele kitchen. I was most impressed with his electrical work - fishing wire from our electrical circuit breaker box downstairs to each appliance, so that every appliance has its own circuit breaker - perfectly! Also - I'm giving a shout-out to Gene, whose patience with the installation of our cabinets - ensuring that the natural-automatic-closes for each drawer worked flawlessly. Marin Kitchen Company is a highly skilled and experienced organization and I recommend it to anyone, who wishes to work with people who have a great deal of experience with the selection and installation of every product at every step of the way. Our 16 yo Miele dishwasher finally died. After calling around a number of places it was clear that Marin Kitchen Co. had what we needed in stock, the 1756 model. We went to meet Janet Masolo in San Rafaele. She confirmed they had it, but also arranged for her installer Luis Jiminez to install it the next day. Big names like Caesarstone and Cambria for sure, but also smaller suppliers like Daltile, Silestone and more. I've been in many other showrooms and none have the breadth of selection as Marin Kitchen Co. Janet helped me today with a new kitchen countertop. One would think it would be simple to pick a white or pale tone counter to go with my white cabinets, but holy moly, there are warm whites, cool whites, whites with pattern or veining and more... not to mention personal preference for the lightness or darkness of the slab. My wife and I recently decided to update our kitchen by adding new countertops and appliances. Our first stop was to meet Janet at Marin Kitchen Company to see how they could help us. From the beginning, Janet was easy to get along with, funny at times and projected an air of confidence that our project could be handled in a pretty simple fashion. Well our house was built in the 1930s and when renovating older homes (which we've done previously), it's not typically as easy as you imagine it will be. Janet also hooked us up with Monark in San Rafael for our appliances. We found a beautiful Cambria Quartz countertop that we loved. We sent Janet basic measurements of our space and she sent us back a bid the next day. We signed and were off to the races. We scheduled demolition on a Monday. Roger came to do the demo work. Remember that part about old houses? Sure enough, ours was a bit out of whack. Some things had gotten out of level as the house settled ... the old tile pretty much required removing all of the plaster and a few other things. Roger was awesome and handled it all quickly and professionally and by the end of the day, what had started as a potential stress had all been resolved. Eight days later (six business days) our counters were installed. Who works that fast!? The outcome still amazes us. The attention to detail is apparent and Janet's ability to bring calm to what could be a very stressful project was much appreciated. I acted as my own contractor on this project and was nervous about that. But it quickly became apparent that the team at Marin Kitchen was going to be there to fill in all the loose cracks, and in the end, they made me look like a star. I have to admit - when my wife and I were passing by Marin Kitchen Company, we never thought that we would end up relying on them for both kitchen cabinets as well as broader design ideas. But owner Scott Masolo is an incredible resource who won our business with his positive, can-do attitude, reasonable prices, excellent selection, and tremendous skill and knowledge. Scott knows cabinet products and design like the back of his hand. We visited other cabinet designers who struggled with the details and were unable to provide as many viable options. Scott's background, which includes actually installing cabinets and building kitchens is a huge plus. He understands how to avoid the pitfalls that befall many kitchen projects. Scott's pricing on cabinet was outstanding. But more than that, he was always there for us, even after the cabinets had been installed. He was truly committed to our satisfaction. New countertops look great. They seem like they have a lot of different materials and selection. The installers were nice and neat. The process is to pay 50%, have the countertop plywood ready by your contractor and all materials (sinks, faucets) and the next day they come and take final measurements. The counters are then cut offsite and installed within 7-10 business days following. Mine were installed on day 11 but they needed to bring a piece back to finish up a few days later. I had scheduled my contractor to hook up all the plumbing the next day so had to reschedule, so I would suggest planning for 3 weeks without kitchen (couple days to prep, finish install, hook up sinks and hardware after that). Not a high sales pressure process, but felt I had to reach out for updates. There was some patching/painting after, but that is to be expected. All in all what you would expect getting new countertops. read more

We used Marin Kitchen Company years ago for our kitchen countertop, and were quite satisfied. We just moved and had a new kitchen island built. The company we used for that recommended a different company who gave us a quote and an almost two month wait until they could install it. I immediately went back to Marin Kitchen and received a similar quote but a two week from measurement to install. As it happened, they could have done it even sooner! We absolutely love the countertop and Janet was so great to work with, keeping me informed by text and making sure we were happy along the way. He gave us some great ideas on the type of wood to use that would match our natural paneling, as well as a countertop material that would match the wood. We were doing two bathroom remodels and had been looking for vanity tops. After much search we went to Marin Kitchen Company on Francisco Blvd E in San Rafael. Our first contact was with Scott, who was patient and showed us all the different options available. We decided to go with them because the pricing was very competitive and they gave a very good feeling that they would be with us all the way to the end. Janet took over and helped us decide on the right counter top and helped with all of the scheduling for templates and installations. We were kept informed every step of the way. As in all construction projects, delays happened and it never seemed to bother her. She was very accommodating in moving appointments and did so very efficiently. We ordered drawer pulls through them as well and when one of the pulls arrived with a part missing, Janet not only got it replaced, but also got an extra pull to keep for spares. We just finished installing new Caesarstone counter tops in our kitchen. Marin Kitchen did a great job from start to finish. Janet knows what she is doing. The demo crew showed up on time and completed the work quickly and as neat and clean as one can to the remove the existing granite tops. They made the templates and worked with me to place and establish the trim of the new sink exactly where I wanted it. The same crew returned one week later and did the installation. It was perfect. I worked very closely with Janet on our kitchen counter tops. She helped us figure out which counter top worked with our cabinets and back splash. When I picked out a counter top that was double the price of the others, she helped us find one that was more reasonably priced and it came out beautifully.
