We LOVE this preschool! Our little guy has been attending since August 2020 and he has grown so much! The staff and teachers are amazing, super supportive and informative. We have had a couple of parent / teachers meeting, which I love! The feed back and advise we receive is wonderful. Being we can't go into the class rooms to help out or have visits due to the pandemic. It's nice to be kept up to speed on how our sons progress is going. I just can't say enough about what this preschool has done to assist in our sons growth and development. Even in these crazy days of Covid, they have always made us feel at ease by providing an safe and secure learning environment. Which we truly are grateful for. A child needs the social interaction at this stage in their development. The preschools method of learning is through play and exploring. This is such a natural & fun way of learning. I can't say enough positive things about Little Sunshine House! We've had two kiddos attend preschool here and our youngest will also attend when he's old enough! Both of my sons now attend LSH. My oldest is 5 and started at 2 and now my youngest who is 2 just began as his older brother transitions to Kindergarten. This pre-school is voted one of the best pre-schools in Long Beach! The staff is remarkable and have treated my son's as their own. I can't tell you how appreciative I am for Ms.Nina, Ms. Elvira, Ms. Sandy, Mr.K and Ms. Nancy! They work as a team and offer a natural approach to positive parenting. This center is focused on the Reggio approach which is play-based learning. LSH is building a community by offering family picnics so parents and kids can meet one another! For a moment, my older son would come home frustrated and didn't want to go to school. Since Ms.Elvira and Ms. Nancy have taken over I see a huge difference in the school environment and enjoyment at the school between children, parents and teachers. There seems to be a natural flow. The teachers are always smiling and never looked stressed out! The wonderfully nurturing teachers at Little Sunshine House are amazing at helping your little one develop excellent social skills (the most important skill for Kindergarten) while learning through play and guided lessons that are based on the students' interests. My son attended LSH for just over two years and it was the best experience for him! My son was very prepared for Kindergarten in reading, writing and math. So grateful for this school and the amazing teachers. My son started here June 2020 when Covid was still very scary, they followed all of the protocols advised by the CDC, while also making him feel super loved and at home in his new school. The amount of growth and progress I have seen in him throughout the past year is extraordinary. Not only are the teachers fantastic at what they do, but they are also great humans. My daughter, Kimiya, went here just for a few months but I am very happy with the work and everything they have done together. This was her very first time going to preschool and I'm so glad that she had the best school experience here! The kids here are polite and always said hi to me when I drop off or pick up my daughter. Just that little thing then I know my daughter is in a god environment. I love how they always researching to bring in the best experience for their kids. They have the passion and the patience, and I'm very grateful for that. The way they talk to the kids when they're misbehaving, that's how you work with kids! You're not ignoring them. My son attended LSH from Summer 2016 to Fall 2018 and I couldn't be luckier that I found this preschool. I knew I loved it from the day I toured. The atmosphere is lovely, the teachers are fabulous, great communication and use of Bright Wheel app. My son learned and grew so much there while also being a kid and being able to really explore and have fun. He is now almost halfway through Kindergarten and he was so prepared! He transitioned so well. I also met lovely families and am still very close with preschool friends. The Little Sunshine House is a wonderful preschool environment for your little one. Our son has been attending for almost a year and we are so pleased with the love and individualized attention he gets. The environment is great......There are birds and guinea pigs.....a play structure....a kitchen.....a dress up area.....a quiet area for reading... The location, while in more of an urban area is safe. There is a coded security entrance and cameras. I have no hesitation in leaving my child there full time, five days a week. The classrooms are broken up by age and readiness with cute name: the Butterfly room, and the Ladybug room. There is a daily schedule and I am confident that my children is getting enough time to play, learn, and rest. There is room for my child to participate in the learning process and do things that he is interested in too. The director, co-director and teachers are awesome. They have worked with me on issues that we have had difficulty with like potty training. They are all very good at communicating with parents and giving feedback. Even though I work full-time and may not see the director each day, she will leave me a note about how my child did and has even requested that I meet with her to discuss my child's development on occasion. We absolutely love Little Sunshine House! The director Betty and teachers are so caring, the learning is play-based, activities offered are inspired my children's interests, the space is wonderful (there's a big, shaded outdoor space where the kids spend the majority of their time and the indoor space is a beautiful converted home full of the children's art). They bring in a music teacher and host events for the kids to bring their parents - extra things that show they really care about the children's development and creating a community. We were nervous about enrolling our son in a program after his first 2 years only being at home, but we couldn't have asked for a better space - he talks about his teachers at home all the time. We literally checked out 7 places beforehand including 2 Montessori schools but none of them felt right - lots of the other schools felt overly structured and rigid for such small children or the physical space wasn't that great. We wanted a place where he could run around and get dirty, do art, explore, and interact with warm caregivers - we knew we found the right place from the moment we walked into Little Sunshine House. The first little bit after he started our son experienced some separation anxiety at drop offs and the teachers were so kind about giving him attention and affection (the teacher- kid ratio is much smaller than most preschools and allows for one-on-one attention if a kid needs it) and sending us pictures of him engaged in activities so we didn't worry all morning :-) This place is really the best and deserves all its 5-star reviews!! read more

I visited this school and loved it. The teachers are incredibly engaged with the children and it is clear how involved they are. They did ask me to make an appointment, but so did all the other schools I visited, and I appreciate that they respect the children's schedules and learning environment and don't allow visitors -not parents- to disrupt that during the day. If you're considering this school, but concerned about the location, please visit it. The school's play yard is like a little oasis. It's shady, green and lovely and completely secluded. The school facilities are also excellent. I was impressed by this school and really recommend a visit. Ultimately, we elected to send our child to an afternoon program that fit our schedule better, but if you're considering a morning or fullday program, I would recommend this one. read more

When we first began attending things were great! I loved this school because it had great teacher to child ratios and a nice open feel to it. But nearly 2 months after we started staff began to drop due to low enrollment causing the administrators, Ms. Nina & Ms. Jerry to fill in for the lack of staff and that's when the problems began. There were two little girls who had been attending LSH for approx 1.5 years, were age 3 & 3.5 at the time who seem to have a strong bond. Until my daughter came along and one of them befriended my daughter and the other had a problem with it and began bullying my daughter. The staff, particularly Nina & Ms. Jerry ignored it. I brought it to their attention and they did nothing. It wasn't until I spoke with the child's parent that they finally became alarmed, literally. As I was speaking to the parent Ms. Jerry involved herself in our conversation and tried to make light of what I was telling the other parent. The other parent admitted she had not been informed of any such incidents by the staff after a month and a half. So I suggested to the staff they need to help parents "get educated" on proper social play and I brought it up in our parent/teacher meeting and in our group meeting. It was after all of these efforts a printout was placed in all of the parents' boxes discussing role play and other tactics to help "parents" teach their children proper social skills. The staff did not state what exactly they would be doing differently. It was at this time we abruptly stopped attending LSH. Although the administrators Nina & Ms. Jerry are "educated" they were inexperienced and ill equipped when it came to dealing with social interactions, especially bullying as they too began bullying too. I recommend they return to school and attend more child development courses. A masters in education does not ensure that you know how to deal with children. As well as call the exterminator because they have roaches. A report was made with licensing and in investigation was launched and the results were inconclusive. Mrs. Jerry did not deny allegations brought against her but no other evidence other than our statements could support our allegations. read more

Just enrolled my little girl after searching and rejecting a few preschools in their new 525 E 7th St location. Amazing and super helpful people. Feels like an extension of our home to my little girl. She didn't wanted to come back and also said lets take one of the teacher home lol.. Very clean and tidy place. I was a little skeptical at first because the new location had no reviews but when I went there, all my doubts were put to rest and I went back home deciding this is the best place for my daughter. To stay that we are privileged to send our son to Little Sunshine House is an understatement. The teachers - Elvira, Betty, Celeste, Nancy, Ruben and Alex - are all so amazing and have so much heart. Little Sunshine House (LSH) is a fantastic preschool and we are so happy to have found it for our child. We moved back to California after spending 7 years in Austin, TX. In Austin, we sent our baby to a daycare/preschool that used alternative teaching philosophies. We loved it and the program fostered our child's independence, adventurous spirit, and confidence. After we moved back to SoCal, we searched for a similar school. We toured a Montessori and were taken aback at how overly structured it seemed. We wanted our child to be able to be a kid: play, be outside, learn through fun activities, question the world around her, and have a hand in building a sense of community. We also wanted a school that would foster creative learning skills and allow her to continue to build her self-confidence and independence. Our old preschool director then told us to find a school that uses Reggio Emilia inspired curriculum/philosophy. This is how we found LSH. We love their teaching and learning philosophy; it is play-based, child-centered, and child led. They include many art activities, too, which our child loves. Other huge pluses are the small teacher to student ratio, the affordability, and flexible schedule. I also very much appreciate the racial, ethnic, and cultural diversity of the staff, students, and families of LSH; it represents the diversity found in Long Beach. Other things that I've grown to appreciate about LSH is the helpful teachers and director: when I have a concern about my child or need parenting advice, I know I can talk to them and will receive excellent recommendations. They have also been very respectful of my daughter's personality and habits: she is not a morning-person, so they give her space and make sure she has activities she can do on her own until she is ready to participate in group activities or play with friends (and actually, the option for individual play is always there for kids); she is also a thumb-sucker and they do not shame her about it. The grounds of the school are clean and well-kept. There is a nice play-structure, back garden, and a covered patio area. They provide snacks and lunch for the students, which is very helpful. The fare is kid-friendly, so the food is happily eaten by most, too. LSH is located in a densely populated neighborhood, so I really appreciate that they have a small parking lot. Also a plus, is the community-building LSH facilitates amongst families: they hold monthly evening play dates at a local park and occasionally hold group meetings, seasonal fairs, etc. Lastly, a couple of cons: The alley, where the parking lot is located, is shared by several apartment buildings and the residents often dump furniture and trash here. The furniture and trash is rarely in the way of cars, but it is very unsightly. I know the director of LSH is active in calling the city about the illegal dumping, though. In addition, although we appreciate that LSH provides all snacks and lunch, I wish staff would challenge the palate with different foods more often. With all this said, there is not a lot I have to complain about the preschool. It's a wonderful place that meets all of my aforementioned desires/expectations and I highly recommend it to everyone. UPDATE 2/2/2016: LSH now offers a Spanish course for students! It is one-hour per week and ran by an instructor from Lango Discovery. The program includes a CD and other materials. We came to little sunshine house a year ago after moving from out of state. We toured several places in Long Beach, but only LSH felt like home. We love the emphasis on play and the way they use it to spark their curiosity and encourage learning. I am impressed with the things my son comes home with and how much he has learned every single week. He loves his teachers (and so do we!) and I know that he is well cared for because he is excited to go every day and cries when he leaves! As we prepare to move out of state, I am sad to think of how much we will miss all of his teachers. If I could take them with me, I would! His new school has a high bar to reach. read more

My son attended Little Sunshine House from age 3 until he left for kindergarten. I was searching like crazy for a daycare that I liked for my son. As soon as I walked into LSH, I started to cry out of happiness and relief. I finally found a place, that I knew instantly, was exactly where I wanted my son to be. Letting go a little of your children is always hard, but it was so assuring and comforting knowing he would be loved and cared for in the same way I care for him. Their Reggio method allowed him to explore his interests, and was never forced to "sit down and be quiet". As soon as my second child is old enough, she will be going to LSH as well. The teachers are so kind and patient, even when my son went through his shoe throwing phase. They also helped so much getting him on track for potty training - a bonus that many daycares do not give. There are two locations. One down the block does take care of infants (but there is a wait list). This child care is geared for more artistic and creative uses. Getting back to nature, mother nature. My daughter has been coming to Little Sunshine House for over a year and a half. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the program and staff. As an educator myself, I am very picky. This school embraces the Reggio Emilia philosophy with an art focus which is a perfect for my daughter. She has absolutely thrived here. She has a special relationship with each of the teachers. They artfully, professionally, and lovingly supported her through some major life changes (a move and a new sibling simultaneously). I find the staff to be kind, consistent, caring, and focused on finding learning opportunities for the children through everyday activities and experiences. Lots of outside time and classroom time is meaningful and exploration-based. Communication with regard to any issues has been easy and resolved without reservation. I love this place! Our experience with LSH has been nothing but positive and amazing. They encourage kids to be kids and learn through play.
