Morro Rock, which is a big part of the "otherness" you'll experience in Morro Bay.

Very nice location and the Innkeeper was very friendly and attentive. We love everything about Morro Bay (just about everything) and my wife says it has an "unreal" feeling (in a very good way) that home (Long Beach CA) just doesn't have. Anyway, we had the Rose Room, it was our 30th anniversary, and we loved every minute of our stay. Our gracious hostess added to that magic. Hated to go.

Normally when we come down to the Central Coast, we stay at San Luis Obispo and at times Pismo Beach. This time we decided to explore Morro Bay with a night at the Marina Street Inn and I didn't know what we have been missing. Owner Claudia welcomes you to her home at check in and you can tell the love that goes into her décor. With 4 individually decorated rooms to choose from (2 on each floor with either a shared small patio or balcony), you should be able to find one that will make you feel right at home. All rooms have their own bathrooms and bedrooms are large enough to have a small sitting area in addition to a comfortable queen sized bed. We chose the Garden Room which coincidentally Matt Damon had stayed in so if it is good enough for Matt Damon, it is good enough for us. The décor made you feel like you were outside sleeping in a cozy nest and were even able to see the sun set along the side of Morro Rock right from our balcony. Breakfast of coffee/tea and orange juice, slice of cake, fruit cup and hot item like French Toast and sausage is served each morning around her dining room table and wine with cheese and crackers which we did not get a chance to partake in is served around 5 or 5:30 in the living area. A few blocks away from the Embarcadero and on Saturdays, the afternoon Farmer's Market also only a couple blocks of away, it is a great location to explore the waterfront with its shops and restaurants without having to worry about looking for parking and if you are lucky, treated to the antics of the sea otters and their pups, all within walking distance. With only a 20 minute drive from SLO, you are still close enough to go into town anytime you want while enjoying the even slower pace of Morro Bay.

The uncomfortable shams found on every single pillow in the guest room.

Food was outstanding, but because of Covid, Claudia, the owner, has reduced it to a continental breakfast.

I called the Beach Bungalow Inn & Suites directly and spoke with the manager, Gabriell J. She was a total professional. I was stressed and upset, but her calm and helpful demeanor completely turned things around. She went above and beyond to make sure I was taken care of through the hotel itself. Lesson learned: always book directly! Not only is the customer service superior, but you get a better price, too. I will absolutely book directly with them for my next trip to Morrow Bay!

I was supposed to receive a text or email with check in instructions and also a door code for the room. I received a call on the day of check in regarding this. I told the person on the phone that I had not received either and she assured me that I would receive one before the 3 pm check in. I did not receive the text. When we arrived to the property at the 3 pm check in, we tried to check in at the office but there was no one there. We found the manager cleaning a room. She informed us that she was the one that had called me. So apparently she runs the office and also serves as housekeeping. We went back and forth trying to reset the door code, and during this time, she was also was stressing about cleaning the vacated rooms on time. At the end of everything, she ended up offering us physical keys after all. Physical keys would have prevented the whole 30 min delay! Also, my ID was never checked, and I never had to sign anything regarding incidentals or policies which is usually the norm when you check in to a hotel. My word was just taken for my identity. Now to the room itself. It was perfectly clean and comfortable. The bathroom had a tub/shower combo and small sink. No storage space so be aware of that. There was a fridge, coffee machine and coffee, creamer and sugar provided. There was a TV and fireplace. It was a really cute space. This Inn is also super close to the Embarcadero, restaurants, beaches, etc.

I would absolutely recommend Sundown Inn to anyone looking for a clean, comfortable, and peaceful place to stay, and I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. Many reviewers mentioned how clean the property was and how comfortable the beds were, so I came in with high expectations, especially since it has a 5-star rating on Yelp. Upon arrival, I was greeted by who I believe was the owner. She was incredibly kind and took the time to explain how everything worked, including the air conditioning and refrigerator. From what I could tell, she and her husband are the primary people running the inn, and they were both wonderful hosts. Throughout my stay, they checked in to make sure everything was going well, which I really appreciated. When I walked into the room, the reviews were absolutely right. Everything was spotless--from the bedding and carpet to the bathroom. I was also pleasantly surprised by the shower's water pressure. At many hotels it's either too weak or inconsistent, but here it was just right. The bed was also very comfortable, making it easy to get a good night's sleep. This isn't a luxury hotel, but it does exactly what it promises, especially for the price. It's clean, comfortable, and conveniently located near downtown and the pier. If you're looking for an affordable and well-maintained place to stay in the area, I would highly recommend this inn.

You can tell they've put effort into keeping it fresh and comfortable. The staff? Genuinely friendly and helpful - great recommendations, warm greetings, and they actually acknowledge you as a member (which, let's be honest, doesn't always happen everywhere). Also...major bonus points for being dog-friendly. My pup was living his best life here. Now, let's talk breakfast. Or...my lack of breakfast. If you're plant-based, your options are basically: * Toast * Fruit * Plain oatmeal (if you're feeling adventurous) Meanwhile, my dog was over there enjoying what I like to call "my breakfast." Day one: cheese omelette. Day two: scrambled eggs and potatoes. Honestly, he was thrilled. I get that it's a standard hotel breakfast setup, but in 2026, throwing in one solid vegan option doesn't feel like a wild ask. Even a simple oatmeal bar or plant-based protein would go a long way. That said, everything else about the stay was great - clean, comfortable, welcoming, and easy. I'd absolutely stay here again... I'll just plan to bring my own breakfast.
