    Tuna Hand Roll

We started off with the vegetable tempera with sweet potato and kobocha with the wasabi yuzu sauce and it was so good. The tempera was very light and fluffy. And the wasabi yuzu sauce was the perfect kick. I really was a big fan of the sauce. And my mom and I ordered a three piece hand roll of the seafoods and then a three piece hand rolls of the vegetable. To be honest I could have done with the fish ones not that they were bad but in comparison to the quality I've gotten when I used to live in Hawaii it's just not the same. I think the vegetable hand rolls were definitely the winners for me. I was really surprised by the asparagus tomato vegan had all set. It was very good almost like a meat texture. I also ordered a caviar fatty tuna one which was really good. Service was fine and ambiance is alright, cute lil restaurant. We sat at tn bar.

Food: 1/5 - Found fragments of plastic or glass from the serving plate on my roll. Fish also didn't taste fresh. Value: 1/5 - Not worth a single dollar when you're at risk of eating debris from the tableware. Service: 1/5 - When I flagged the issue with my roll, the response was dismissive - no urgency, no accountability. A restaurant that can't bothered to replace chipped tableware is a restaurant that may be cutting corners elsewhere too - and when "elsewhere" could mean raw fish, that is a serious food safety concern. Will not be returning.

Takeout lunch so judge accordingly. Like with so many spots in the area, the prices feel high vs. the product. The location premium is unavoidable. Pickup after app ordering is quick and easy. Service is friendly. The inside looks a little cramped with a long counter that wraps around a little bit at the end in a fairly narrow footprint, but it's bright and looks comfortable enough. Food is packaged well for takeout, with individual seaweed wraps for each roll. Easy enough to finish assembly, especially if you have any experience with onigiri. Pull the plastic to the side and the goodies drop in to your crispy seaweed. Food is fine. Got the regular 5 roll set and it was good. Nothing really stood out but I ooh'd and ahh'd with my dining companions. Not quite enough food. I'd have ordered their fish broth noodles to supplement but it wasn't a takeout option. Glad to have tried it as a splurge but it'll be low on the list for repeat visits.

MariNe Handrolls delivers a great experience from start to finish. The staff were incredibly friendly and struck the perfect balance--engaging and respectful when interacting with our group, while also being highly attentive. We never had to ask for refills on water or tea, and the pacing of each round of handrolls was seamless. The handrolls themselves were delicious and well balanced. Even after finishing the 5-roll set, I found myself wanting at least one more just to keep going. Given the size of the restaurant and its location, the pricing felt fair for the quality you're getting. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this spot, especially for smaller groups of 2 to 4. It's also an okay option for a date if you don't mind the bar-style seating setup. Unfortunately couldn't give this place the 4-5 stars due to their tableware (specifically for holding the handrolls) being severely chipped and damaged. Something I would especially not expect for where your food gets "displayed" or placed directly on.

If you are looking for delicious hand rolls in an intimate yet casual environment, then Mari.Ne is a wonderful choice! The hand rolls are very well portioned, filled with plenty of rice and fish. I ordered a set of 4 and found this to be quite filling. Of the hand rolls we tried in our group, favorites were the crab, salmon, fatty tuna, and spicy tuna hand rolls. The restaurant offers several sauces and recommends pairings with each hand roll, which just elevate the flavors even more! In terms of service, I found it to be great. The chefs do a great job of spacing out the rolls and in recommending sauce parings. The location is small, so I would recommend a reservation if you are visiting with a group larger than 3 people. Overall, I loved the flavors offered by Mari.Ne's hand rolls and found them well portioned for the value.

I travel to New York quite a bit for work and this spot is around the corner from the hotel I normally stay in, so last night I decided to stop in for a solo dinner (which I don't do often). From the moment I sat down, the team made me feel so welcome and taken care of. They checked in throughout the meal in a thoughtful way, and the service felt genuinely warm and kind, which made solo dining feel easy and enjoyable. The food was incredible. Every hand roll was fresh and perfectly prepared. The wagyu hand roll and the yellowtail were my favorites and I'm already looking forward to having them again. I also have to mention the Arinto wine, it was so crisp and delicious and definitely worth trying! This was one of those dining experiences that really leaves an impression. I will absolutely be back and will be recommending this place to anyone I know visiting New York. Thank you again to the incredible staff for such a lovely evening.

Love this place for a quick bite in midtown! I got lunch on Saturday afternoon with 4 friends - we were seated immediately and were only one of two small groups dining in. We all ordered from the set menu, and some of us ordered a few à la carte rolls. I went with the 5 hand roll set and really liked it! The fish was fresh, rice well seasoned, and the nori had a really nice snap. I also liked the different types of sauces, and I thought the spicy one paired well with all of the rolls. I think this is a great place to grab lunch on the weekends with out of town friends - there's usually no wait, the food is good, the location is very central/easy to get to, and service is quick if you're in a rush to catch a show near by.

Came here for dinner on a weeknight with a reservation for 4 and we were seated quickly at a corner to allow for easy conversation. The space itself is pretty small so opt for a reservation if possible to avoid waiting - they also mainly only have bar seats so it's a tight experience as is. Menu was mainly handrolls and some appetizers with little variety. We opted to share the uni toast which while small tasted pretty solid. We also each got their set which had a series of handrolls, all of which were fantastic - well balanced and fresh. Service was also efficient and friendly. Overall, a bit pricy, but we left feeling satisfied. I probably wouldn't come back, but I'm glad I tried it and had a nice experience nonetheless.

So this is a hand roll set from Mari-Ne in the west 40's. 5 rolls $42. All of these were fantastic. Sauces were fantastic and unique too (Mustard Soy and homemade Sriracha) . Standouts for me were the spicy salmon and waygu. Sliding the nori out of the plastic while maintaining the taco like shape was a little difficult. Great amount of filling all different. But I loved these would definitely try other ones and they have a full vegetarian set as well. Left to Right Waygu Tartare $13 Fatty Tuna $9.50 Spicy Tuna Confit $6.50 Yellowtail $6.50 Salmon $6.50

Ambiance (3/5): The establishment is very small with about 15 seats that face the chefs while they prepare the sushi. It's bright and low volume that you can hear each other. The space definitely feels a bit cramped. The stools were the worst part of the experience because there's no backing so I felt just uncomfortable the whole time. Service (5/5): We were seated immediately with our reservation time. We were attended to the whole meal and have no complaints. Hand rolls all tasted great. The salmon threw me off because I think there was a mayo-base in there but nevertheless still tastes great if you like mayo. Big fan of the fatty tuna and the waiyu. Did not really care for the yellowtail. Next time I'd like to try their other dishes for variety.

There's a bunch of hand roll places that have popped up all over the city, and this is one of the good ones. First of all, it's korean with Japanese influences, which already sets it apart from other handroll bars. Secondly, overall, the food was pretty great. The handrolls were surprisingly filling and the flavors were pretty damn good. The scallop was fantastic. Also loved how they had 4 different squeeze bottles of sauce that allows you to customize your roll if you want to. Lastly, their other food was also pretty good. Pretty good selection of apps to add to your meal if you don't feel like just doing hand rolls. The janchi guksu had a nice clean fish broth. Honestly perfect if you're feeling a bit under the weather. Bonus, they have a pretty good selection of wine, even some of that orange wine. It's a tiny cute place. All bar seating. You don't need to book ages in advance and can probably walk in. Honestly even good if you're a solo diner. The prices are also pretty reasonable. $29 for 5 hand rolls of that quality is a good deal. Would definitely come back again.

Best hand rolls of my life! I wish MariNe was in LA because Kazunori doesn't even come close. Ordered the 5 roll set. Every piece was delicious but the shrimp was my favorite. What made MariNe stand out compared to your run of the mill handroll spots are all the little sauces they provide on the side for your use. Each sauce was so unique and added a new dimension to the handrolls. The price is on the more expensive side, so be prepared to throw down more for what you get. I definitely could have eaten about 5 more hand rolls honestly to feel full.

Stopped by MariNe for a recent Friday dinner -- our party of 2 didn't have reservations but there were plenty of seats available when we got there around 6:30. There are roughly 15-ish seats at the counter, where you can watch them make your hand rolls in front of you. The decor is rather simplistic overall -- I like the elegant colour scheme and the rather minimalist design throughout, although I have to say that the bar stools are not the most comfortable to sit on. I ordered the hand roll set (comes with 5) -- they allow one substitution, and I'm not a big fan of shrimp, so I swapped that with scallops. Overall, they were not bad. I thought the fish tasted very fresh across the board, and I really liked the fatty tuna and salmon rolls the most. The confit spicy tuna was interesting -- the savouriness of the confit paired with the spiciness was an unusual combo, and was not quite to my taste. The texture was also a bit too oily/heavy. Price point was fine -- just under $40 (incl tax/tip) for 5 rolls is not very cheap, but not crazy either. I think it would be nice to come back again to try some of their other dishes -- people seem to say the janchi guksu and uni toast are good choices, too.

Here's what we ordered: ~ Tako Wasabi - 5/5 stars A fiery delight. This appetizer feartures chopped raw octopus marinated in wasabi. It has a lively zest from the wasabi and is topped with tobiko, which adds a pleasant contrast in texture. ~ Honey Makgeolli - 4/5 stars A traditional fermented Korean beverage that is light and pairs brilliantly with your meal. The pork was tender and had a clean flavor that really let the quality of the meat come out. The kimchi pancake was topped with a poached egg which was interesting.... Personally, the poached egg addition wasn't really for me, but my friend loved it. The pancake itself was crispy flavorful. The chicken kalguksu was exactly what I want when I'm craving comforting and warm food at 11 PM after watching a musical. The broth was light but flavorful, and the noodles had a good chew. I ordered the soju flight but I ended up not liking it so my cousins shared it. The meal comes with different veggies as well as your choice of soup. We got the spicy tofu and split it 6 ways. The spice lived up to its name, so I didn't eat very much. The best part was meat. Despite there being 6 of us, there was plenty to go around. I think you have the option to cook it yourself or have them cook it for you and we chose the latter. While I enjoyed it, I wish there was more space. Most of the space was taken up by the accompaniments that come with it (veggies, etc), so there was hardly any room to put anything else. It didn't help that none of our dishes were cleared once we finished them and that no rice is included. Aside from that, both the food and service were great.

I didnt want to walk any further with my toddler and my pregnant sister since it started raining outside.

Good portion sizes for the 2-person shared BBQ lunch- be it Bulgolgi beef, stewed soup, or Banchan…read morewith 6 varieties of small dishes. Soup and Banchan both receive high marks for how good they taste. Also ordered a separate beef short rib lunch special, the rib was cooked to perfection and the sauce applied was very flavorful. Servers were friendly and mostly attentative, restaurant decors and cleanliness of interiors and bathrooms were quite good. Would come back again next time in the Herald Square area.
