$75 omakase was absolutely AMAZING. Better than any $250 one I had in Denver Colorado. The staff was also attentive and friendly! Would 12/10 recommend. Smaller place for about 30 people.

OMAKASE! This was simply an amazing culinary experience. My Yelp buddy Susan C. was just here a few weeks ago and raved about the sushi, so we had to come celebrate our godson's birthday here. Reservations are a snap on Resy. The sushi bar wrapping around the prep area can accommodate up to 20 diners per seating and there are 4 scheduled seatings per evening: 5:00, 6:15, 7:30 & 8:45. We were early for our Sunday night 6:15 reservation and it wasn't full all evening, so time was not a constraint. There was even a walk-in trio of ladies that skipped the full omakase and just ordered a few pieces of sushi a la carte. The restaurant is very new, barely open for 5 weeks, so they texted us that it was BYOB and we brought a selection of sake to enjoy. Our server kindly provided ice buckets to keep the bottles chilled. But we were definitely here for the full omakase experience and left ourselves in the capable hands of our chef. The left column of the menu listed all the omakase courses, while the right listed optional a la carte choices. The 12 nigiri courses served were: - Sea Scallop w/ Truffle Butter (seared edges gave a nice smokiness) - Yellowtail (topped w/ scallion) - King Salmon (smoked w/ shoyu glaze) - Sea Bream (sea salt & yuzu) - Botan Ebi (foie gras topped & torched) - Shima Aji - Lean Tuna (w/ mushroom) - Chu/O-toro (topped w/ caviar) - Spanish Mackerel - Hokkaido Uni - A5 Wagyu (sea salt & shaved foie gras) - Unagi (toasted & brushed w/ nitsume) All the fish were high quality and preparation was beautifully executed. Everything simply melted in your mouth, except the uni, which just evaporated. My favorite bite, of course, was the A5 Wagyu. The mottled fat was melted under the torch, sprinkled with a touch of sea salt and generously covered in shaved foie gras. The Sea Scallop and O-Toro were close seconds. The official final course was a Negitoro handroll with minced fatty tuna & scallion wrapped in nori. The chef had a unique nori wrapping method. He cut a strip of nori and wrapped it across the bottom of the handroll before completing the cylinder and hand serving. The extra wrap served as a bottom cap, so that the contents didn't squirt out when biting at the top. The man is a genius! Sometimes nori sheets are chewy, but these were crisp and each bite was clean and tasty. After the negitoro handroll, we decided on a few extra pieces to try and ordered the Kinmedai, which was good, but could never be as fresh as when we had it in Japan. Plus some of us revisited the sea scallop and yellowtail as handrolls. The chef was generous in the handroll fillings. A matcha ice cream mochi for dessert capped off a beautiful meal. I wish them much success and can't wait to return for a reprise extraordinary omakase!

There has been an emergence of more affordable omakases throughout the city and I'm all for it. Hanaya sits on a busy avenue where there are a great number of good restaurants to choose from. The restaurant makes good use of their space and the food is solid. It is small and cozy inside. Taste: 4.5/5 Service: 4.5/5 Ambiance: 3.5/5 Value for money: 4/5 We had the Valentine course, which was just the normal course but adding 1) miso Chilean seabass and 2) cheesecake with chocolate coating 1) Sea scallop with truffle butter - this was a strong start 2) Hamachi (yellow tail) with shishito pepper - not bad! 3) King Salmon - was not a fan of leaving the skin on, perhaps it was meant for texture 4) Sea bream yuzu - great acidity 5) Ebi foiegras - the sweetness of the shrimp paired well with the foiegras 6) Shima aji (striped bass) - good 7) Lean Tuna - they put mushrooms on top, which gave it a better mouthful 8) Otoro caviar - amazing and rich 9) Mackerel ginger scallion - like the sea bream yuzu. But this was also interesting as it reminded me of the ginger scallion sauce paired with soy sauce chicken. The fishiness of mackerel was masked by the strong ginger scallion flavours a good pairing, but overall a touch too strong by the sauce 10) Miso Chilean sea-bass - this was a good add as it added an element that was both sweet and savory at the same time 11) Uni - good 12) Wagyu with foiegras - great! The Wagyu was seared to rare so you would still get the chewiness of the meat. The shaved foiegras was a nice touch, providing it richness in a different way 13) Unagi - great 14) Handroll tuna - not bad 15) Cheesecake choc - this dessert was the weak link. Ending on a strong / good dessert is important for a tasting menu. It was out of place and quite frankly one of the worse cheesecakes I've had at a restaurant. It brought down the whole experience. Overall the food in the restaurant was great and I would be back. The cheesecake left a sour taste which was extremely unfortunate.

Really good Omakase in the city $75 for 13 courses. I love that they're all fish sushi pieces and no appetizers really good. I like the simplistic modern feel inside.

I was really surprised about how delicious this was. The freshness of the fish was amazing. Everyone is very nice. The restaurant does get quite loud and it was hard to hear .. I would recommend and definitely will go back

Pretty standard omakase! Good value, fresh fish, friendly staff and service. Water and ginger was always refilled. Can get loud but still able to have a conversation with the people next to you.

I was super excited to try this place after seeing all the 5 star reviews, but it was just alright in my opinion! It is a good price at $75, but I think there are better omakase places at a similar price point. The fish quality was okay, but I did like some of the combinations they had like foie gras. They were willing to substitute one of the courses for an alternative for my friend which was nice! The experience also went by pretty quickly - we were in and out in 40 minutes. With so many other omakase options in the city, I probably wouldn't come back.

I died and went to foodie heaven. Hell's Kitchen has been really representing on the NYC omakase scene and even among stars, this place shines above the rest. WOW wow WOW where do I begin. They've been open for 3 weeks since Sept 16 and if you're an omakase fan you better run here now before seats get too hard to snag. While billed as another "affordable omakase" spot, this place is the real deal in terms of sushi-making pedigree and creativity (Sushi Yasuda, Sushi Noz). It's hard to tell from photos, but there's an element of thoughtfulness and technique to their sushi flavor pairings indicating research went into designing the profile of each bite. Chef Yousi, Chef Ryan and front of house Enrique--you guys are serving up something extra special! If I could give 7 stars I would! The sushi flavors and techniques speak volumes for themselves, and your hospitality is on point. I arrived one very rainy Sunday evening for the second seating at 6:15pm and was surprised to see only 3 parties total, the space is simple, with a muted color scheme in the style of Japanese sushi restaurants, though they've added some tasteful touches like cherry blossoms murals on the wall decor. About 20 seats around a rectangular sushi bar, serviced by two chefs. I'm kinda glad it rained since we had prob more of a personalized touch and chance to chat with the team one on one, and appreciated their openness to chat with us! Ok getting to the food - 13 course omakase over 75 minutes for $75. For menu see my pic! They get all their fish from Japan, which is super unique at this price point. - Rice: well seasoned and properly cooked, each grain held its own. This place leans towards modern sushi flavors so take this into account if you're a purist, however it's in line with the newer sushi scene in Japan these days. Some pieces are have a light sauce so that caused some grains to fall off here and there though I wasn't angry about it. - Scallop: gently seared with butter ugh...so tender and fresh. One of my favorites, honestly it was really hard to choose favorites here. - Yellowtail: stronger wasabi flavor I enjoyed the kick though. - King salmon: smoked with what (to me) tasted like a bit of paprika seasoning on the exterior, really delectable. -Sea bream: a meatier fish with more of a bite, so good. Nice savory elements. - Botan ebi with foie gras: melt in your mouth, the shrimp was so fresh and juicy, foie gras added a lovely richness. - Shima aji: comforting savory mushroom (?) flavor, though my friend thought it was more a sautéed mustard green flavor. - Lean tuna: soy sauce forward, enjoyed it! - Chu/otoro with caviar: you can't really go wrong with any variety of this anywhere, so tender and melt-in-your mouth with a touch of brininess from the caviar. - Spanish mackerel: slightly seared with ginger, also basically falls apart in your mouth, a lighter flavor, yummmm. - Hokkaido uni: sweet unctuous uni. Crisp nori exterior. Perfection. - A5 Wagyu: so tender, probably the best rendition of this I've ever eaten in NYC, and that's saying a lot. There's a bit of grill flavor they managed to impart with the deep fried pork floss (did I hear that right?) they sprinkle generously on top. - Unagi: delicious, melt-in-your mouth just the right amount of sauce. - Negitoro roll: not bad, more of a lighter roll with some crunch from the pickled radish to end your meal. We ended up getting extra pieces of the scallop, botan ebi with foie gras and the shima aji, plus a unique red snapper/sea bream take recommended by Chef Ryan. All so delightful =9 One of the most amusing parts of the meal was actually watching the expressions on other diners faces as they were eating the sushi. lol their expressions! And probably mine too, hilarious. Like after a bite, you could see eyes widening, these expressions of surprise and joy, sometimes eyes closing. One customer put his head down onto the table and couldn't look up for a while, then declared the king salmon the tastiest piece of smoked salmon he'd ever eaten. You could tell everyone was enjoying their nigiri immensely.

Probably THE best omakase I have had to date. Every course was thoughtfully selected and crafted by the chefs and you could tell. Aside from having amazingly fresh fish, they were able to highlight each fish with inventive flavor pairings. My absolute favorite was the hamachi (I think) with smoked shishito pepper topping, WOW I have never had a nigiri that tasted so so umami and well rounded in flavor. That added smokiness from the peppers really did it for me. Aside from inventive and delicious flavors, the skill and craftsmanship that goes into making each course can be seen right in front of your eyes as they only offer bar seating around the chefs. Compared to other omakases, there was a notable difference in the mouth feel/texture of each bite as I felt the fish was sliced perfectly. Absolutely melted in my mouth and I did not have to chew through thick slices of fish, as I have at some other omakases before. I barely got any photos of the courses as I was having such an amazing experience, so you will just have to try Hanaya for yourself. So happy I got to visit during the soft opening as it was 20% off, typically this omakase will be 13 courses for $75, but for the quality and experience I certainly feel it is worth it. Would 1000% recommend!!

    Benjamin C.

Hanaya absolutely blew me away. Their omakase is one of the best values in the city. 13 exquisite courses for just $75! Every bite felt like a masterclass in creativity and balance. The nigiri pairings are bold yet refined, like perfectly seared foie gras melting into fresh, buttery fish. And the proteins are unbelievably fresh. An absolute must-try, inventive, elegant and worth every bite.

We walked into a stylish, energetic space with a menu designed around sharing, making it a good option for a casual dinner or group meal. The interior has a contemporary, lively feel with an open kitchen that adds energy to the room, and the seating is arranged to accommodate both small groups and larger parties comfortably. Instead of sticking strictly to traditional Japanese dishes, the menu mixes familiar flavors with more modern presentations, creating a dining experience that feels both approachable and exploratory. The standout item is the katsu, which is where the restaurant really shines. We ordered the pork loin and tenderloin versions and found the breading crisp while the meat stayed tender and juicy, the crust holding up well without becoming greasy. The mazemen is another highlight, with chewy noodles and a rich sauce that brought a lot of flavor without feeling too heavy, the sauce coating each strand evenly and the toppings adding layers of texture and depth. Beyond those, dishes like the butter scallops, corn ribs, and seafood options added variety and made it worth ordering multiple plates to share. The scallops were well seared with a buttery finish, and the corn ribs offered a smoky, slightly charred flavor that paired well with the richer dishes. The desserts are also a memorable part of the meal. The corn ice cream is one of the more unique items, with a sweet and savory flavor that sounds unusual but works surprisingly well, the sweetness of the corn balanced by a subtle savory note that kept it from feeling cloying. It fits the restaurant's overall approach of taking familiar ingredients and presenting them in a more unexpected way, and the creativity of the dessert menu feels consistent with the rest of the meal. Service and atmosphere add to the experience, with attentive staff and a lively dining room that feels suited for groups. The team checked in at the right moments and kept the pacing of the meal comfortable, and the open kitchen added a layer of engagement as we watched the dishes come together. Reservations can be difficult to get, especially during busy times, and the small plate format means the best experience comes from ordering several dishes rather than focusing on one entree. The variety across the menu encourages sharing, and the pacing of the meal works well for a longer, more social dinner. konban delivers a well-executed modern Japanese dining experience. While some of the more hyped dishes may not completely live up to expectations, the katsu, noodles, and seafood dishes make it a worthwhile visit. The combination of creativity, quality ingredients, and a lively atmosphere makes it a destination for exploring different flavors and dishes together rather than just ordering one signature item, offering a meal that feels both engaging and satisfying.

The pork was so tender. the ebi tempura were huge, and the mazemen was thankfully not spicy. However, the scallops could've been more tender and we we were all unimpressed with the ube tiramisu.
