If "shut up and take my money" we're a store... This place has so much random, awesome stuff it's not even funny! I was able to find a Free People shirt for $10, a beautiful sweater dress for $29, and some warm and fuzzy Woolrich house socks for a great price. It's not just clothes, though; this place has all kinds of random things anyone in your party will enjoy. It's fun to simply browse the shop, even if you're not seriously interested in purchasing anything. It's like a treasure trove for the imagination. This is a clear destination every time we visit Provincetown. On our last visit we found a 6 feet tall metal suit of armor, a pink frilly formal dress, old license plates, and surplus Russian naval uniforms. As other reviewers have noted, this is basically an army and navy store, but there is always something new and fun to discover. I've also purchased some pretty rocking puma ballet flats, as well as probably the softest dyed tee shirts I've ever felt. Come prepared to be surprised and keep an open mind. Also come prepared to spend a good bit of time wandering around, if that's your thing. For those with allergies, would also recommend popping an antihistamine before you go in. The place is relatively clean, but those centuries old antiques come with centuries of hidden dust. Happy exploring! read more

Some of my finds.... -Real cotton surgical masks. A store for people that like to dig It's dark, cramped, dusty and stinky and one of the most fun stores anywhere. You don't go in here looking for a specific item, you probably won't find it. But you will find all sorts of stuff you didn't think you needed but will buy anyways. Every time I go in I find something that I can't believe a store is actually selling or that someone would buy. Probably the best store ever. I wish we had gone here before Halloween. It's difficult to adequately describe this huge, musty warehouse full of the most random assortment of crap you can imagine...the only thing all their goods have in common is that they're awesome and I want them. I'm just gonna make a list of some of the things we saw here: - Sticks for 29 cents - A real shark in a bottle (pictured) - A huge selection of pimp hats - Random underwear with the following sign above it: "Please return underwear to appropriate box when opened." - Hundreds of used license plates - A bicycle hanging from the ceiling - Old school gas masks - A wheel room with a big old helm and a wide variety of glow-in-the-dark stars - A suit of armor I have no idea what to make of this place. Time stands still in Marine Specialties! I have been coming to this shop since I was a little kid and not a lot has changed over the years. Back in the old days I would come in to browse with my grandpa while he scoped out all of the "junk" this shop has to offer. If you are in Provincetown it is a must to come in here and take a lap through the store. You never know what you will find here...Military paraphernalia, old license plates and a random assortment of collectible items. You never know what you might walk out with. I love it here. Its like a gritty TJMaxx. Its filled with tons of cool, fun, kitsche stuff. Its a tag sale with name brand items that lost their tags. Army gear, costumes, hats, shells, clothing, etc. I always find something special I can't find somewhere else. It appears to be located in an old warehouse made of wood, low lights and creaky. This place is really hard to describe. It sells complete and random crap, and I mean that is the most positive way possible. If you need crap, you should head to this place without delay. But if you were looking for creepy random doll parts I think you're out of luck since I didn't see them when we visited today. I would say they sold out of them but I can't possibly imagine that happening. But fret not, since there's plenty of other good crap still available at reasonable prices. I wanted to buy this awesome red drum-major jacket but at $100 I was overruled. I'm sure there's still some WWII-era French military-issue underwear there somewhere. Where else are you going to find stuff like that? Absolutely nothing is organized and neatly displayed. It's almost like they went out of their way to make the place as messy and disorganized as possible, which is part of its charm. What's not to love about Marine Specialties? This was my second time here in as many years and I am happy to see that things being sold here keep changing. Like this time the airline's serving plates and glasses were gone and were replaced by even funkier tumblers and margarita glasses. Which is the best part. So you will find the out of this world gas masks, fun wigs, interesting costumes (I wonder if this store has additional collection during Halloween!?) and some cool casual wear at very low prices. It is also a great place for anyone who is a collector. Pins featuring different eras, old license plates, old vinyl records, tin advertisement plates of coca cola and Marilyn Monroe selling liquid foundation. Definitely a collector's heaven if you have the patience to go through the back of the store, especially near the walls. Chances are you will find something that will take you back in time and you will pick it up as a piece of treasure. There is stuff for everyone. So if you are traveling with kids, there are some fun plastic guns with disco lights, (Wish that was the sole purpose of guns btw!), cute flip flops, and a limited clothes collection. The clothes for men and women are quite a mixed variety. But most of it is casual wear that you can relax in at home. And if you don't find anything that you would like to take home, you can always come out and listen to the dude on the piano singing his heart out. read more

I love this store and always have. I grew up on the Cape, so as soon as you get your license you go To Ptown and Boston. The Marine Specialty store has always been a stop for me. I recently did pretty much all of my Christmas shopping here. You can find stuff from silly crazy masks to great toys for kid to great quality wool products straight from Ireland. I love this store! You'll immediately be sucked in and too distracted to even notice anyone. You'll trample people as you try and reach over to grab and play with some random item. Venturing into Marine Specialties is a must for anyone who visits PTown because there is simply no other store quite like it on the Cape, or anywhere, for that matter. It's kind of overwhelming, in a good way. Anyone who enters should definitely enjoy thrifting and/or adventure because it is not your standard, cleanly shopping experience. You'll have to get your hands dirty. And it might smell bad (i.e. it smelt like a wet dog near the front of the store when I was there, and it probably was just that. Generally it does smell a bit musty from the old military items). Following the standard format, here's a list of some random treasures: -Imitation pirates' booty coins, selling for about $2.50 each -Seashell night lights -Seashells carved with horoscope signs, which reminded me of a souvenir from Florida that my grandma would've given me back in 1985 (see photo) -Some sort of military fishnet tops that would have made a really great unisex club shirt/dress -Name brand water shoes and flipflops -Feather boas, in an array of colors -'Marine Specialties' logo t-shirts -Fun magnets, stickers, and postcards -Military bags, cases, and equipment (all of which my boyfriend knew the name and purpose of, and he bought an ammo pouch for $5) -Women's new waist length pea coats (which I bought for $20, original price tag was on there for $80) Number one unique, random, useless item: -Brass hour glass (no longer functional, sand stuck...may have been the actual wording on the sign) Why??? This place is ridiculous. Ridiculously amazing. You never know what you're going to find here. I have a friend who bought a gas mask. I have another friend who found their first license plate from when they were a teenager. During one visit, there was a completely creepy barrel full of doll arms and legs. Yup, a barrel full of arms and legs. There are clothes, knicknacks, flags, patches, dolls, dresses, soaps, military pins, rubber duckies. Stop in, and give yourself some time to poke around. Nets and anchors draped beside wooden samurai swords and discount corduroys, with fat guy in a thong T-shirts folded neatly next to 40-year-old Army issued MREs. It's a museum for sale, or Willy Wonka's attic, or a door into Terry Gilliam's Amazon wish list. And to offer a complete guess as if I, or anybody, could possibly cost compare a pair of 2008 New Year's Eve party glasses, the prices are reasonable. Will wonders never cease? Everthing you need to stock and decorate your bomb shelter! My first thought when i walked in to this place was "what a bunch of useless junk". As trekked further in to this place i started thinking "what a bunch of COOL useless junk". It was like they went back in time and raided an WWII army barraks. Pin-up girl posters and all! In additon to the old army surplus stuff they have a number of odd toys, sea shells, leather by the pound and funny hats....and a hello kitty lunch pail (eh Liana K?). This is the strangest store EVER!!! Its essentially an Army/Navy store, but marches to a different beat. They have almost anything you would ever want to find in such an eclectic store. I bought a jacket here in 2004, it finally fell apart in 2013.... I got more than my money's worth. I find the most interesting thing they sell is discontinued plates and cups from airlines... you can easily build up a service of 8 for very little money if you don't mind Pan Am logos on things. The back is a serious marine store, you can get the latest nautical maps and other boating supplies, I have several P-town harbor charts rolled up right next to me. I didnt push but I could probably have gotten all my USCG-Aux ribbons and the like as well. read more

I was at provincetown for the weekend, ran into this store randomly after lunch when we decided to take a walk. This is crazy place where you can find ANYTHING from used, antique, exotic to brand new. It sells things like knifes, army accessaries, coats by pounds, used wedding dresses, vietnamnese hats, clothings, shells, signs, used car plates and etc....The prices are very resonable and you'll definitely get something out of the store if you browse throughout. I love Marine Specialties! It's basically my favorite store in P-Town. You can get anything there! Ok, not anything, but all sorts of unexpected things. Everything from swimwear to petrified fish, umbrellas to funny hats, military gear to seconds of brand name clothes. It's dusty and musty and sometimes you have to dig through bins and barrels to find what you're looking for-- but it's worth it. On my 30th year shopping here! One of our favorite summer haunts. Back in the day it was a true military surplus store and every visit was a surprise. They've adapted to the times, sell less surplus and more touristy items. Still, you can always find something interesting. There's a ton of merchandise under one roof. Plan to be there a while. Also, look everywhere! There are incredible antiques (not for sale) hanging everywhere. So much fun! We just finished a sword fight (wooden oversized swords) in the middle aisle! Shoes, boots, shirts, wedding or prom dresses, jewelry, stuffed animals, crazy hats, gas masks, sailor clothes, fishing supplies, army surplus, belts, tee shirts, bathing suits, vintage band and movie posters, license plates, bottles, shells, lunch boxes, magnets...I could go on. Prices here vary. I can remember a pair of chucks from here costing $50, a steep price. But about two summers ago, I got an army coat for only $20, which is now a staple of my wardrobe. Also, they sold me playbills from the original productions of "Little Shop of Horrors" and "Women Behind Bars," both very rare, for only ONE DOLLAR EACH. That's a great deal!
