Stopped here for a work lunch. Service was friendly and timely. A lot of staff working later shifts seemed to be hanging out at the bar. I guess if you come in early to work to eat, the food must be good, right? We had the Artichoke French as an appetizer, which had a delicious lemon flavor. My manager and I both ordered the Gyro Salad, her's with chicken, mine with salmon. Plenty of fresh toppings and the grilled pita was a nice touch. Just would have loved to have actual gyro as a protein add-on option. And because I have a wicked sweet tooth, we ordered peanut butter pie to-go. The server mentioned that none of the desserts are housemade, but still worth a try. I did enjoy the pie, which was rich, not a cream-cheese base. Great classic Italian food with good service. Would definitely go back whenever in town as this is one of the better food establishments according to locals. Had the chicken francese on a patron's recommendation, and it did not disappoint. Food portions or very generous, so we all left fully satisfied and ready for a nap. Walked right in and was greeted by a lovely young lady. Was seated right away. Order the mussels in garlic as the appetizer, which was actually delicious, the chicken masala was just okay, nothing wow about it, but the shrimp scampi was a NO for me, it was sour like they poured a whole bottle of lemon juice in it. They offered to make the dish over, which I said okay, which k took to go, still the same thing, to much lemon juice. The linguine could've have done with a couple more minutes of cooking. The dessert was good. It's a cute whole in the wall spot, ambience was nice and rustic, but not quite sure I'll return if I'm visiting my daughter at college. read more

The entire experience here was great. We tried a bunch of different things from the menu and it was so delicious. The star of the show was the Pork Marsala, the pork was so tender you could slice it with your fork. The calamari & mussels are great appetizers as well. Food was horrible. Chicken French wasn't breaded properly. Didn't even stick to the chicken. Then to cover it up, they just flooded it with a sauce that wasn't seasoned. This restaurant is a hidden gem!! Classic hardwood wainscoting on first level bar greets you with comfortable cane back cushioned chairs!! Fantastic attentive bartenders on a very busy Saturday night! Food was fresh, zucchini veg of the day cooked perfectly! Dining room down stairs very nice. We were there on New Year 6pm. Ordered prime Rib(2), twice baked potato and (1) coleslaw instead of veggie. Waiter very nice and accommodating. Aft ordering 5 min later we heard staff ring out (throughout the restaurant) NO MORE PRIME RIB! WOW! Mind u this is 5 min after ordering. Then the waiter comes back and tells us he did not place our order and we are out or Prime. We almost left then but not many places to go. But we ordered something else. Another 4-5 min later the staff rang out AGAIN (NO MORE DOUBLE BAKED POTATOES) . Immediately I see our waited turn and start walking over to our table! "I so sorry we are out of double baked potato" . I sIde "you haven't put our orders in ? We have been here quite a while now!. So again we changed our preference. Then I said how. About a drink or dessert on the house. Everything g I came in for is not here. Which they did give us a complementary drink. Food was good T-bone and lobster tail. read more

Stopped in to pick up lunch to go. Restaurant was rather quiet. I ordered one of the lunch specials to go. Cheeseburger over salad. I asked for the burger to be medium. It took like 40 minutes to get the food. And, when I did, the food runner just left it behind the bar and the server was no where to be found. I finally get my food and the burger was kind of burnt tasting on the outside and raw in spots on the inside. Tasted to me like they tried to cook the burger while it was still frozen. All around great experience. The atmosphere is casual and comfortable. The salads were large and fresh and the house balsamic Italian was very tasty. Very large menu with a nice selection of Italian but many other sandwiches and dinners as well. We had Italian... Basic dishes but good portions, flavorful and well prepared. Great Prime Rib...cooked the way I asked for it and perfectly sized...Twiced Baked Potato and veggies were excellent compliments to the beef! Shelly had the Stuffed Haddock and Mom had the Chicken Parmesan...she had leftovers. We're not dessert people, but the Salted Caramel Vanilla Crunch Cake would've been where i was going. This is a suitable American/Italian style restaurant in a nice setting. They have antipasto, burgers, pasta, chicken parm, basically you name it. Lots of choices. Though I had a generous 10 oz prime rib, it was tough, but lean. I didn't know it was possible to have a tough prime rib. I ordered the garlic chicken and broccoli the sauce was outstanding.... my daughter had the chicken franchise it was so tender and delicious. We had a party if 6 and Habakka was a great server. Frequent business traveler who happened to find himself in Hornell for a couple of nights. Hornell has very few dining choices, and I was too tired for a 40 minute drive into Corning, where the dining scene offers a bit more choice, so after taking a look at my options on Yelp, I decided on Marino's. The reviews paint a fairly accurate picture. Nice ambience, polite (if a bit "non-professional", i.e., young college kids) wait staff, and unpretentious (and unimaginative) food. The menu is limited with little that calls out to you. Marino's bills itself as an Italian Restaurant; but honestly, that's a bit of a stretch. It's more an "American" restaurant w/ an Italian bias; which is to say that there were some standard Italian food choices on offer among the burgers and steaks. I decided to stick close to what seemed to be the restaurant's core strength, and had resigned myself to a mediocre meal of "comfort Italian food", and so placed my order for the Chicken Parm. After taking down the order, my young waitress suddenly remembered that there was a special that night, and mentioned a tuna steak over rice and under a sauce that she couldn't really fully describe. That's ok, I was glad of the choice and ditched the parm for the Tuna Surprise. She asked how I wanted my steak; I told her rare. The entree came w/ a soup or salad. I chose the garden salad, and we were off to the races. The salad was fine. Thankfully, the kitchen held iceberg in as low regard as I do, so the salad contained a nice mix of green. It is summer, and the single tomato wedge had enough flavor to suggest that is was actually grown in real soil. There was an over-abundance of stare bought bagged croutons which really ruined an otherwise descent presentation. The dressing was served on the side, and was a reasonably good balsamic vinaigrette house. The bread came to the table a little late; but that's ok. It was a couple of slices of cold, soft Italian bread from the grocers shelf, served w/ butter in those little square plastic cube things. No olive oil in sight. I decided not to make a fuss. The entree was pretty good. The tuna was topped with a red pepper sauce (I think) which was very tasty. As advertised, it was served over a rice pilaf, which was a bit too salty; but not bad. The tuna was grilled lightly on the outside, and so lacked the color it should have had; but it was rare, as requested, which was good to see. There was a nice assortment of vegetables, which were not overdone. I skipped desert; as I wasn't really tempted by the selection. On the whole I was pleasantly surprised by my meal, and would recommend this restaurant for what it is, a nice place to eat in a town bereft of any legitimate competition. read more

Tan Marino! I can't say enough about Marino's Restaurant. It is the jewel of greater downtown metropolitan Hornell, and that's a mouthful. So was my dinner! This place is classy enough to wear your Sunday best, and dark enough to wear an old t-shirt. Which I did. It was my shirt with the wolf in snow. I love that shirt. The kids' got it for me last Xmas with there allowence money. They sure are good kids'. Gramma , too! I should of brought them to dinner with me. Last time I did we got tossed out because my kids' made too much noise. At a McDonalds', no less! So's there's no way I'd bring them to a place with real food. Like Marino's. Marino's is only 5 years old or so, but located in a historical building that has been around for over 100 years, and this restaurant does everything too look the part. When I walked into the detailed restoration that is this restaurant, I had no idea the place was so new - I was surprised when the waitstaff told us. There are plenty of period touches throughout the train-themed front dining area (it's across the street from the historical Hornell Train Depot). It centers around a classic wooden bar. Even the bathrooms had old world charm to it. We only were in the front bar dining room, but from the website, the back room and two upstairs dining areas seem impressive as well. The food is typical Italian fare, and we enjoyed our lunches there, although I wouldn't rate the food as exceptional. Portions were good and the price was fair. The kids enjoyed their meals too. Service was prompt and engaging. I'd recommend a visit to Marino's if you are in the area. If I had to point out an area for improvement, it would be that neither the men's or women's restrooms had changing tables for infants. I guess it takes away from the decor... read more

Marino's is the best Italian restaurant in the area--but then there is not a lot of competition... The atmosphere is great for a date, night out, or a hearty family meal or gathering. A nice selection of appetizers, fair wine list--and everything one could expect in a small locality for Italian fare--from specialties to pasta dishes. The NY Strip and Angus Filet are about as good as it gets for a town the size of Hornell. The desserts are good--but like most other places in the area are made somewhere else.
