Get ready for an earful! So I'm a college student on a budget and I love to sew; so I buy myself a cheap sewing machine. $200, so not like dirt cheap but not one of those really good ones that cost $500. So my machine starts acting up, I try to fix it and end up taking out the bobbin case, which I'm not sure how to put back in. So I go to this place for some help. I walk in, my charming self, all hellos and smiles. I swear to god the first thing this woman said (barked, really) was "Well of course it's broken, you bought this at Walmart!" Is that really necessary? And this arrogant bitching didn't stop until I left! I understand that in the long run a good, sturdy machine is cheaper than a cheap one because you don't have to fix it all the time. But damn it, do you talk to all your customers like that? Bitch at them because their equipment is sub-par to your standards? Do I get no credit for finding a way to sewing even though I'm on a budget? Oh and the nerve she had offering me a tune up for $99! Pretty upset. I paid $140 to have my machine repaired. The service was pretty awful. I was told it would take about a week to get back, unless they needed to order a new part. I called a full MONTH later wondering if I had missed a call or if they were waiting on a part, because it had been MUCH longer than anticipated and I hadn't had any updates on the status. The woman who answered was very confused, did not recollect me or my machine, and kept asking me if I mine was another brand machine, because she knew what was going on with a different machine. After hearing about what was wrong with the incorrect machine three times, I gave up. I figured I would get a call when it was ready, and waited another full month. At this point I was really antsy, so I called back AGAIN, and was met with the same cluelessness about my machine. She hung up and called me back to check on it after about 20 minutes of fumbling, talking about the OTHER machines and saying she didn't remember MY machine. When she finally called back, she said they were waiting on a new threader, which is fine, but honestly I had forgotten it needed a new one and wasn't one of the things I asked about when I brought my machine in. Another two weeks, and I got the call that my machine was ready. Finally!!! I brought it home, have had it for a week, and it stopped working AGAIN, as soon as I started sewing something. I am incredibly fed up, I would not recommend this place to ANYONE. I am going to call back about this, but do not have high hopes after reading other reviews. I really regret going here. read more

So I took sewing lessons here about 8 years ago. Just enough to teach me the basics of threading the machine, stitching a straight line, etc. This past Christmas my husband gave me a Serger. I have used it since Christmas without trouble. This past week I attempted to re-thread the machine (not for the first time, by the way, I've done this before and had no issues whatsoever) and it won't work. Nothing is making it work. So I bring it here thinking that a small shop would be more helpful than going to Joann's. Guess again. As soon as I walked in the door the two women at the counter start... You didn't buy that here, I'm not familiar with this machine, you don't have the bar in the proper position, you're tension is all crazy, I don't know what you were attempting to serge (cotton, at this point I've said it three times), you're using all sorts of different thread not serger thread, on and on. Basically their "advice" boiled down to go home and read your book. (It's summer, I have two young children, if I had actual time to read it probably wouldn't be my serger manual.) I offered to buy whatever thread I needed to in order to fix my problem and didn't expect their help for free but I didn't even get that far before they told me (more than once) to go home and read the manual. YIKES!!!! I don't even know where to begin with this. I called asking if they had a particular serger (Brother) in stock and based on the employee's attitude, you would have thought I was asking them to donate a kidney (or more!). Being that Marion's is the closest authorized Brother service repair center near me, I figured I would give them a call to check on the availability of a serger machine and purchase it there. Me thinks not after just one phone experience. If Marion's ever goes under, it will be because of their lack of customer service (which is evident in the other reviews). With Amazon undercutting prices left and right, you'd think Marion's would be doing everything possible to accommodate local shoppers. Just bought a Brother DreamCreator sewing machine. Already have a Brother Quattro 6000D but couldn't resist. The stitch quality is fabulous, even better than the Quattro. Easy to use no guess work. Would recommend seeing Dot, and MaryAnn at Marion's for a test drive on these machines. Now I can sew on one machine and embroider on the other all at the same time. read more

I have been a customer atMarions for about 20 years. I have never once had a bad experience. I have purchased many machines both sewing and vacuum. We have to realize sometimes we all have a bad day but management has changed hands with in the family owned business and I find the atmosphere very positive. The products that are top of the line so you can expect to pay for them. Just beware when you purchase these items from big box stores they are not the same. I brought my working machine in for routine maintenance. They were nasty from the get go. Had to call multiple times to find out when it would be done. It was not finished until 5 days after promised. When I got the machine home & tried to use it, it was dead. Wouldn't work at all. When I contacted them, they were very rude and said my "machine must have died". When I tried to tell her it was working fine when I dropped it off, the woman on the phone started yelling at me! After charging me $140 and breaking my machine, they did not offer to take it back & fix it, they only wanted to sell me a new machine. They became very pushy about selling me a new machine. BEWARE: this is their scam.... Break your machine so they can sell you a new one. (I took my machine elsewhere & it is now working great, NO thanks to them. They also give sewing lessons here.... I had a great experience at Marion Sew & Vac! I've been sewing for years but I had never been there before. I bought an embroidery machine quite a while ago, but I've only been using it for sewing & want to try to do some embroidery to see what my machine can do. It was a weekday morning so I was the only shopper there, and the man behind the counter spent quite some time helping me pick out threads, showing me the differences, and even giving me tips on what I could do with them! After reading some reviews, I thought that they might have winced at my inexperience with embroidery, but instead, he was extremely nice, professional, and he went out of his way to help me! Horrible, horrible customer service. Don't waste your time. My family has bought vacuum's from them in the past. However, this particular Electrolux model I bought from BJ's. We ended up having a problem with the vacuum and contacted Electrolux, who referred us to Marion's for a repair that would be covered by Electrolux. First off, Marion's didn't even seem the slightest bit interested in helping us because we hadn't bought the vacuum through them. Secondly they told us that it wouldn't be covered by our warranty because my husband had tried fixing the problem himself ( which we even told Electrolux ). Next we had to contact Electrolux again, who assured us that they would cover the repair. They were surprised with Marion's customer service, since they refer customers in our area to them. They then told us the name of another repair shop in the area, and told us to bring it to them. There were two women working in the shop this particular day, the younger one in particular was extremely rude and unhelpful. I will be telling my family about our experience with them and hopefully they don't get any more of our business. read more

I brought my sewing machine to Marion's for service and was quoted 2 weeks for the tuneup. After the 2 weeks passed, I could not get in touch with anyone at the store. The phone rang unanswered. Google listed the store as "temporarily closed." Their website didn't work. I sent an email and a Facebook message to their page - both went unanswered. The store had no hours posted in the window. On my 3rd attempt at visiting the store during normal business hours, it was finally open. I was told that my sewing machine was not logged into their system, was not in the queue to be fixed, and it would be another 2 weeks. Another 2 weeks passed and the same issue happened. It was difficult to actually find the store open. I contacted the Bellingham Business Association to inquire about the status of the store. I was told it was still open but had varying hours. After over 4 weeks, I went back Marion's to inquire about my sewing machine. It STILL wasn't fixed! The owner simply handed my sewing machine back and said "take it." Terrible attitude. Terrible business. Terrible customer service. Terrible "system" for keeping records. No phone. No website. No response to emails or Facebook messages. No. No. No. No. Go elsewhere. If a ZERO star option was possible, Marion's would have gotten that. Customers beware! read more

Very disappointed in the service. I have purchased 3 Miele vac cleaners from this shop over the past 6 years. My older machine has been deteriorating and I dropped it off for a tune up. I thought I needed a new wand as a piece of metal had been sticking out of the top and seemed hazardous, although the machine was working fine. I just didn't want to wait until it broke to address the issue. I asked to be called with an estimate. After a week of not hearing back I called and was told that my machine was a disaster and not worth fixing. I explained that it was working fine and that I wished to purchase a new wand. They told me that the hose was not hooking into the vac properly, which I have not had any problem with at all. I said I would just pick up the machine then and they told me that I should purchase a new one. Well, if I do it will be from Amazon with free shipping and I will find a new repair place immediately. Hopefully they didn't intentionally break my hose : ( Just very poor customer service every time I walk in there. I hate to say this but I just wouldn't recommend them at all. I had a very good experience recently at Marion's. The girl at the front was very helpful when I brought in my two machines that were given to me so I could see which one I should sew with. I have no experience with sewing machines.She plugged them in and threaded them for me and gave me her advice. She even had the repair man come from the back to look even though he was swamped with work. I bought a new cord and have a great working machine. I really appreciated the help. I had nothing but issues owned it for two years.i had to keep on bringing it back and their quality of service was horrific.. I have been a customer of Marion's for a little over 3 years now, and have enjoyed doing business there. I find all the staff very helpful and engaging. I have an embroidery machine that I purchased at one of their events, and love it!! I have had to have it serviced very early on as I thought I new it all. I drive 15 miles oneway to the store and would not do this if I was not satisfied. My repairs were done promptly. I thought the price was high but what is not today. We must keep our small businesses around for service and knowledge are not found at the big box stores!!!! read more

I purchased a Brother Dream Creator XE from Marion's. I stopped by the store twice before I made up my mind. Sandy and Tom were very pleasant and patient with me. It was a big investment but I found it was reasonably priced for this machine. It also comes with unlimited lessons. I went for my first lesson today and Sandy spent almost 3 hours with me. I was never rushed and met other wonderful customers. It was a very friendly and fun morning. I would never be able to learn how to use this machine without the lessons and I own another embroidery machine. read more

Very poor business practice in customer service. I was in there to have a machine fixed. Noticed some sewing work displayed so one of the people was telling me of a class to sign up for. 2 full days, make several projects to bring home .....sounded fun but expensive . I asked a bunch of questions . So I say I will think about it. Receive call when machine is done. Again they mention the class since the price will be going up. Again I ask questions to make sure this is something I can go and actually do stuff at, make things. So I think I am paying for materials for multiple projects to complete and take home. That is what 2 employees told me. Day 1 arrives, I go, and to my shock and extreme disappointment, it is a 2 day demonstration of a VERY expensive embroidery machine to buy. There were several people at each table to share a machine. Listen to the speech of upgrades, latest, greatest accessories, blah blah blah, and then 1 person at table does whatever project to do. Not all was a completed project, nope, take home and do at home!!! You need to own a machine for that!!! So out of the 7 advertised "completed projects" each person got to do 1. We are talking 100.00 class, with a hand towel with some embroidery on it to show for that 100.00 sign up. I refused to go to day 2 and sit for 7 more hours of a sales pitch. I complained and wanted at least a partial refund. Nope. Owners wife was terrible to deal with, customer service was ridiculous. 2 people did not correctly advertise that class, the event advertising online also did not reveal this class accurately and yet no refund. Never doing any business with them again. I will drive out of my way for repairs for my sewing machine and vacuum. Imagine if I bought their $15,000 machine, with that treatment. Same experience as others. The woman, Dottie who "runs" the place is downright rude and nasty. Brought in a vac to be repaired. Had dropped it and the wand would no longer engage the beater bar attachment. She immediately began to tell me how cheap my vac was, that it wasn't really an Electrolux but actually Eureka parts. I stopped her and told her I owned three of them and that all had worked excellently for the year in which I owned them. I explained I wanted a quote to repair the wand and that I wanted them to see if it needed any filters or belts while they had it. She asked me if I wanted a tune up and I said no. It was only a little over a year old and was my third floor vac so it was rarely used. Two weeks later, I finally get a call and they tell me it has been repaired and that is it $120. I asked where my quote was and why I never got a call with the estimate. I was told I would hear back from the owner. Next day the owner calls and says she has the estimate. I inform her that I was told yesterday that the repairs were already done and the unit was ready for pick up. She states that's impossible since they don't stock the parts and don't order til approved by customer. I give name of person and time they called they day before. Now she discovers that they DID already repair it and gave it a full tune up hence the inflated price. I tell her I will not pay for the full tune up as it should not have needed it nor was it approved. She informs me they will keep my vac instead. DONT EVEN CONSIDER GOING HERE!!! They are crooks and incredibly rude. The owner is a nasty old biddy who has no place being in customer service. read more

I brought my machine to Marion's recently to have it cleaned and the bobbin winder fixed. I should have known when I walked in with my machine to just turn around and walk out. The woman was so incredibly rude. There was no one else in the store, not shocking after she spoke to me the way she did. I have (had) an older Janome machine. She yelled at me because I didn't bring in the embroidery hoop. I didn't embroider with this machine, I only sewed and I only wanted it cleaned and the bobbin winder fixed. I finally called after three weeks to be told that the man who fixes the machines tried calling me and left me a message the week before. Funny, I had gotten all my other missed called and message -- just not this one. The man called me back and was equally as rude -- telling me that he couldn't fix my machine because the board was broken and the machine wouldn't even turn on. The machine worked fine before I brought it there -- just couldn't wind a bobin any longer. He proceeded to tell me that he did not break my machine -- before I even said anything. He told me that he could try to order a new board but the machine was old so he didn't think he could get it, if he could it would be expensive. My alternative was I could come in and buy a new machine from them. In what world do you live in where you would think I would buy a new machine from you after you broke the one I entrusted you with to fix????? I am so disappointed in this place. I usually go to Blanes but thought Marions was closer to home so I would go there. I've learned my lesson well. Unfortunately, I no longer have my Janome that I loved but I will let everyone I know not to go to Marians!!!! Rude and untrustworthy at best!!!! read more
