The staff members were very sweet both on the phone and in person. The place was packed when we picked up our food but everyone looked happy and no one was waiting. Actually, I thought 3.5 *s would be best for this favorite spot of my son and his family. There were so many great things, but a few details that disappointed me. I will discuss the service, ambiance and the food. My experience with the food was the Caesar Salad, Lasagna, and tastes of food from those at the table. Service was great. Our server was attentive, answered our questions and even brought me some extra pepperoncini when I asked for them. She was pleasant and patient as we pondered our selections. When my adult son asked about what was tap, she brought a taster for him. Across the street from the courthouse, on the square of a town founded in 1809, the restaurant inherited a period building with brick walls. I have been in Italy and I can say that the decorations were authentic. This MAY have been a church in a previous life, but there are a few clues, particularly to loft at the front of the building. A spiral staircase leads to it, about a story and half above the main floor. Closed to visitors, I understand at times it is a live music stage. Food was good - very good, just not good enough to warrant a full 4*s. So here are my picky comments. Lasagna was a large portion and well balanced for flavor. I'm used to pasta, even in lasagna to be more al dente. For the price, there was not enough meat to satisfy my taste buds or wallet. We opted for the family sized Caesar salad,which again, was good. I'm used to more garlic as well as a more flavorful and more abundant dressing. Two pizzas also came to our table and the four diners enjoying them, liked them much. For a wood fired oven, I am more used to a more prominent smoky flavor - from my small taste. Toppings were adequate and looked great on the pie when they came out. Chianti is only available by the bottle. I would have liked a single glass. It could grow on me if I lived or worked in the area. I would not object to going back with my party when we visit, but a 75 minute drive is not worth the trip. read more

I've traveled far and wide, but Marioochi's remains one of my favorite pizza places by far! In all of the visits I have had here at this lovely gem in Sparta, I have never had a bad experience - it's cozy, the service is amazing, the waiters are personable and friendly, the drinks are strong and delicious, and the food is out of this world. It's a total vibe and it never disappoints. My absolute favorite is the Hey Mikey - hot honey drizzled over their perfect pepperoni pizza - whats not to like?! I absolutely recommend starting with their spinach artichoke dip though - bubbling hot, cheesy and perfectly seasoned with a plate piled with warm toasted crostinis. Being from the city, I wasn't sure if I could believe the online ratings. Based on crowd-sourced reviews, Marioochi's is the highest rated pizzeria on Highway 70 in Tennessee! Hence, it was an important stop on my cross-country trip while driving the entire length of the highway from Phoenix to the Atlantic Ocean. Could a pizzeria out in rural America in the tiny town of Sparta actually be making legitimate pizza? And could it impress someone like me who's visited the entire list of top 50 U.S. pizzerias and eaten a lot of pizza in Italy? I'm here to tell you that indeed Marioochi's lives up to the hype! The crust is very thin but bubbles up around the edges, perfectly cooked in their massive pizza oven to be lightly crispy while retaining a soft, doughy texture. The Big Cheese features five different types of cheeses including a soft fontina and a stretchy mozzarella. Admittedly, I really couldn't taste the Gorgonzola, which is too bad because it's one of my favorite pizza toppings. Maybe I should have offered to pay extra to quadruple the Gorgonzola? The cheese gets a nice char in sporadic spots and obviously has tremendous quality! If you don't mind a cheese pizza without a red sauce, definitely order the Big Cheese. Their various meat pizzas are also popular and look fantastic! And any pizzeria that offers prosciutto, capicola, and especially salami scores major points with me! They'll also bring you garlic butter for crust dipping if you request it. And you can pay the bill with your phone by scanning a QR code on the receipt which is very convenient. read more

Stopped at this place will traveling through town. Man, what a hidden gem. We were surprised to learn that the pizza didn't have sauce but ordered anyways. The bio in the menu describes the reason is to bring out the flavor of the ingredients and man it did. The pizza was absolutely delicious and very flavorful. Service was good. We really enjoyed the setting as well. It's certainly nice to work part of downtown with exposed brick, but with some additional creative elements to create a more rustic mood. We have been to this pizza place multiple times and have not been disappointed. Their service is great and they have decent prices. Had some drinks there the first time and they have a great selection and the bartender does a superb job. The garlic knots are really good although they could use a bit more oil and garlic. We were visiting friends and stopped by this pizza place. It was an upscale restaurant with a rustic vibe. The brick oven pizza without sauce we were skeptical at first bc the owner wants you to really taste the flavor of the toppings. Let's just say they hit it out of the park. The waitress Andreia was absolutely amazing and knowledgeable about the menu and recommended the owners other stores which were a coffee shop and an Italian cheese shop which was also amazing. We were in Sparta looking at a house and our agent recommended this Italian restaurant. The coffee collective next door was highly recommended as well. We haven't gotten there yet. As we walked in the restaurant we were very impressed with the decor. It was eclectic and rich looking as well as cozy. The calzones were oven back and delivered to our table hot and crispy. They were sliced and presented well on the plate. Our server was so friendly and helpful. We went there about 2:30 in the afternoon for a late lunch. It was not crowded. Two disappointments: $20 for a (small) glass of cabernet? An antipasta salad with a few slivers of cheese and a couple of pieces of meat? This was nowhere near the traditional antipasta salad that we've had all over the country. The food is decent, but the service my wife and I experienced was awful! We came into the restaurant, as a party of 2, and checked in with the hostess. As tables began to empty out, we started to notice that they were taking larger parties of three, four, five, etc....that had checked in long after us. At that point we had already waited 45 minutes with several empty tables sitting empty for long periods of time. When we asked the hostess why we weren't being seated at one of the tables, we were told they would not seat a party of two at a 4 top table IN CASE A PARTY OF 4 WAS TO COME INTO THE RESTAURANT. I have been in all but 6 countries on this planet and NEVER been told this ever! We continued to wait another 30 minutes with 5 empty tables in the restaurant and finally left and went to a different restaurant where we were seated right away. We have eaten the food before and it is decent, although very overpriced for what you get, but tasted ok. But literally being told to wait for a table for two with multiple tables open completely took the cake. We have recently gone to the brand new Frankies Pizza in Sparta and the food is much more authentic, great service, great prices. Thank goodness we won't have to worry about being discriminated against because of the size of our party again! Save yourself some money and go to Frankies and get authentic NYC style pie if you're visiting Sparta! read more

Marioochi's is a nice local pizzeria located on the square in Sparta and we came here back in May to meet up with a few friends who grew up in the area. The restaurant was somehow out of red sauce when we came, which is something I've never seen before at a pizza place (I grew up in the Northeast). However, despite that, we enjoyed our meal overall. We tried the spinach artichoke dip and garlic knots, which were tasty, but the garlic knots would have been better paired with some marinara sauce. We had a white pie with sausage and a meat calzone (which somehow came with marinara sauce) and they were decent, but not the best I've ever had. It was definitely good for Sparta though and we were actually pleasantly surprised with it overall. Service was good and the drinks were very cheap, so I'd say it's a solid restaurant overall and one we would try again if we are ever in the area. read more

Staying in Spencer, our friends love this pizza spot so we drove about 30m as there is nothing within our vicinity to eat on a Friday night. About a 15m wait but the bar opened up so we sat there which is usually where we like to dine anyways. The bartenders where fantastic. I ordered the Stubborn Hibiscus Soda which was refreshing! We ordered all of the food to come together, but there was an incident & it did not. The whole staff handled everything very well & professionally. We ordered & shared the Garlic Rosemary Chicken wings 4/5, I'd day they needed to be cooked a bit more & I liked the Buffalo Sauce & Bleu Cheese better. They were large wings so I do recommend them! Very meaty. For pizzas, the Bella Mia & Goodfella on Cauliflower Crust 10" pizza 5/5 and an absolute must! We will be back for this again, but there are many pizzas I'd like to try next time. Don't let the Cauliflower Crust fool you, if you like thin Crust you will not be able to tell the difference between it & regular Crust. It is delish! We also shared the Cannolli's. The two shells are filled right before they come out & are absolutely delish! I don't like sweets & totally recommend it. Marioochis came highly recommended from my hair stylist. They are set in the square in Sparta, the building is very old they have done an excellent job in creating a nice atmosphere. Check out the spiral staircase in the corner. There is so much to look at inside. The floors are beautiful. When we arrived, it was an hour wait, so we waited. Since Marioochis is quite far from us, about 40 miles exactly. We have been craving really good pizza since we moved here 9 months ago. There's always those commercial staples that are always just soso. We order bruschetta, 2 ceasar salads, and 2 pizzas. My husband ordered the cheese pizza, and I ordered the margharita pizza. Located off Main Street in a downtown plaza with plenty of parking. This restaurant has a simple exterior but once you go through their doors you quickly realize there is nothing simple here. The smells of Italian seasoning, and freshly made pizza embrace you. Then, you hear the Italian music, and the sounds of friends and families sharing their meals and drinks. There is a full bar along the beautiful brick walls and your eyes head straight back to the massive wood grilled pizza oven. So, there is where the magic happens. There are about 10 stools around the bar, several booths across the opposite brick wall, 2 large rectangular tables , 1 round table for 6, and another 2 tables for 4. All were full on this Monday night! This is a local hot spot and many of the guests would stop at other tables to greet their neighbors and share a quick happy update. Service is spectacular. All the staff was polite, efficient, professionally dressed, and clearly enjoy working here. You know that is key to elevate your experience at a new restaurant. Our server Michelle welcomed us immediately and said she be right back. Served 2 other tables their meals and came right back with a smile to guide us on wine and draft options. The menu is appetizers, salads, desserts and the star here are the pizzas. Like 12 different specialty pizzas, plus 3 columns of additional toppings to help you customize your own pizza. Two sizes 12" or 16". Prices are appropriately listed for each size too. The Caesar salad was fresh and generous enough for my hubby and I to share. Michelle even brought us an extra plate with extra napkins. Her wine suggestion for me was smooth and perfectly complimented our pizza. We chose the Bella Mia which consists of mozzarella, prosciutto, capicola, sausage Roma tomatoes, red onions, and Gorgonzola. We chose to swap the sausage for Salami. It was a moaning, gooey delight of flavors with a crispy crust which we both licked our fingers. There was nothing left. Epic night that only got better with the 2 mini cannolis that are filled when ordered. Nothing here is frozen. There is a passion to feed you and make you a loyal customer. They ran out of San Marzano sauce at 6pm on Saturday night and would not serve any specialty pizzas anymore even with a substitute sauce. We wanted 1 pizza for two children to share and asked if we could do half olives they said no because the sides slide over to the other side. We told them we didn't mind that at all and they said no per the owner but we could get uncooked olives on the side. Also, ordered a beer that never came. This restaurant needs to accommodate customers better, especially if they did not prep correctly. read more

Pizza was excellent and service was exceptional. My wife and I dined at Marioochi's recently with a large group of friends on a Saturday night. We originally expected a party of 7-8 people but our party grew to 14. The staff was extremely accommodating and friendly with the changes especially since 4 our the members of our party arrived after we had been seated and ordered. The staff didn't seem bothered at all and quickly adjusted our table to accommodate the additional guests. I will caution you that they did require 75% of our party to be present before they sat us but that isn't unreasonable considering how popular this place is, especially on a Saturday evening. We tried several different specialty pizzas and all of them were very good. We tried the Vespa, Hey Joe, and the Hey Mikey. All of the pizza we tried were cooked perfectly and the toppings were all fresh and delicious. I highly recommend Marioochi's Pizzeria if you're in the area. Wow! What a wonderful quaint, pizzeria. First time here and it won't be the last time the personnel are over the top friendly, which makes the dining experience that much more pleasant. We started off with the spinach dip served with little toasted bread, and it presents so nicely and bubbling hot. Definitely a great beginning! Our server was kind enough to explain the various pizzas as their primary pizzas come with no sauce. Those in the second section of the menu are pizzas with sauce. It's a more sweeter marinara than you're used to; we opted for the no sauce and glad we did. We had the Ciao Ryan which included salami, pepperoni, Italian, sausage, mozzarella, prosciutto, roasted red peppers, red onions, tomato blend, and mushroom. Bursting with flavor certainly isn't an overstatement. Leaving the sauce off gave you the opportunity to taste each topping without anything else trying to win you over. The crust is exception and was just the right amount of crisp. When in Sparta it's a must stop but even if you're not, a drive from Crossville was well worth it to us for the quality of the food. read more

Our second time for lunch and both times were amazing. The decor is beautifully historic with leather and wood adorned booths and tables. A small but fashionable bar is also available. The bar backdrop is a beautiful custom made wood set up. We ordered a small Italian salad for starters. It was a generous portion of lettuce, Parmesan shavings, red onions and pepperoni slices. The ranch dressing tasted homemade. We ordered the Small Yo Jo pizza which is brick oven prepared; delicious layer of mozzarella cheese; topped with roasted red peppers, sausage, mushrooms and pepperoni. It was delicious. We ordered the Goodfella, Raquel, and the Just Cheese, and then my daughter ordered the chocolate cake for dessert. These wood-fired pizzas are beyond delicious. No red sauce and you don't miss it. Thin, crispy crust. I loved drizzling Hot Honey over my pieces. I personally thought the Raquel was the best but there were people in our group that thought the Goodfella and the Just Cheese were each the best... so you can't go wrong! The Caesar salad looked fabulous... though I didn't try it... The chocolate cake was moist and decadent. We will make this place an annual tradition each time we are in town!
