Just had to prepare a revised review for Mario's given the dramatic turn-around they've undergone since being under new management. In my previous review, the restaurant I understand, was re-sold and has undergone a significant remodelling and has returned and perhaps exceeded its original glory days under Mario himself. The staff are 'on it' showing great service and the food has been excellent. The restaurant itself is spotless and works really well for couples as well as for larger groups. Some of the dishes are pretty tasty, however I don't think the garlic bread can actually be classified as food. Garlic cooking spray on possibly fake bread? Makes one a bit worried about quality of what is being served? read more

Great overall experience! The original owner bought back the restaurant. It's now BACK and better then ever. My friend is a pasta lover and can tell the sauces are now made from scratch, but the must-have is the pizza's with a perfect crust... and overall we had pretty solid service. I hadn't heard that Mario had sold the business in '06 but I am damn glad he bought it back this year in February!! Awesome staff, amazing food - you simply MUST try the Mudslide dessert, it is heavenly! Fiancee and I went early on Good Friday...early as in a little past 4, since we were starving after a long walk along the trails at Centennial beach. Staff was amazingly friendly and helpful - Mario himself was there seating people and chatting. Our waitress, Kelly, was super helpful in helping me choose my meal (everything looked so good!) I ended up having the Cajun Chicken Pasta. I was immensely impressed - the pasta was cooked to perfect density (just shy of being al dente) and the creamy sauce was rich and thick. The best part (imho) was that the chicken was real...as in NOT the pre-cooked, frozen and reheated, rubbery nubs. It was carved off - not sure if they cook the whole bird, but definitely fresh...and plenty of it, too - no skimping! Being cajun, I was worried it would be a bit spicy for me, but Kelly assured me it wasn't...it was perfect if you like a hint of heat that is more flavour than HOT. Garlic toast side was cut from a baguette and was nicely toasted on the top and soft in the middle. Fiancee had the chicken and rib combo. Comes with side of sauteed veggies (red and green pepper chunks, zucchini slices and thick sliced carrot) and giant scoop of mashed garlic-chive potatoes. He opted for the basic Virginie bbq sauce, which was good but not GREAT. It was perfect for the chicken (again, you could tell it was a nice fresh cut of boneless/skinless breast) but the ribs (which were only the tiniest bit on the dry side) lacked the kick of flavour and smoke we were hoping for - next time will try a different sauce (three to choose from). In my fiancee's words "Well seasoned, but a little dry." Mario was going from table to table to see how things were, and we let him know how great it was and what needed a bit more work - he was quite concerned about the ribs being a bit dry, and said he would definitely check with the kitchen staff on it. We let him know it was by no means "bad" - just different from what we are used to at home. The ribs, which are a smaller version of their full rack, was 10...full rack 14/15. Ever been to a place that says full rack, and you pay $30 and get 8 ribs? This dish was about $20 total. Dessert was a must, since I have quite fond memories of their Mudslide...it has changed from the original ice-cream based cake...and in my chocoholic opinion is now way more satisfying! Two triple layers in a big glass bowl of thick chocolate pudding/custard, light and moist chocolate cake, and whipped cream (fresh, not the tub kind). Topped with chocolate shavings and toffee bites, it was perfect - great for a shared dessert as it was huge, but light enough that if you have a light meal it is great for one person. Our water was kept full, our coke and ice teas were also, which is great - a lot of places seem to not realize that a glass at the edge of the table is the sign of "thirsty - please to refill!" This place, we have decided, will now be our "go-to" when we want a great meal, at great prices, close to home. Going there for my birthday next month! Our bill came to just under $60, including tip, which is a great value since neither of us could finish and took home enough for lunch the next day! If you aren't from the Ladner/Tsawwassen area, make the trip out. Go for a walk along the beach or trail, or head to Diefenbaker park or Pt. Robert's for the day and stop at Mario's to fill your bellies! You will NOT be disappointed. read more

their menu is pretty extensive so imagine my surprise when I asked them which pasta or pizza comes or can be made garlic-free and was told that they all contain garlic so my only option was a salad. so I ordered Greek salad and asked to make it garlic and onion free. guess what -- it arrived with onion in it. not impressed and won't be back obviously read more

Ate here this evening and had an excellent meal! Travel as a celiac can mean trouble with gluten free.....Mario's Kitchen has a well labeled menu, indicating many gluten free options. They even have a gluten free beer listed. We shared the crab/cream cheese stuffed mushroom caps - very tasty! I had a gluten free deluxe pizza - a nice, crispy, thin crust with the right amount of toppings. My boyfriend had a regular crust pizza and said it was nice. Dessert was a shareable slice of cheesecake on a gluten free crust with homemade whip cream - YUM! We arrived at the right time to be seated immediately, (about 6:30pm) as the restaurant got busier just after we ordered. read more

Nice service, nicely decorated, ok pizza. I don't particularly care for this style, nor to I seek it out on purpose. Where I live, this style of pizza is pretty popular, doughy crust with tons of toppings. This is probably my least favorite style of pizza, above chain restaurant pizza. But I respect that many people do like that kind of pizza and that this place does that kind of pizza well. So if you are looking for more toppings than everything else, this would be your place. read more

The ownership has changed hands back to the original owner and I urge you naysayers to try it out! Been the once since moving to Tsawwassen, and we may or may not be back. Food was delicious - but pricey. Substitutions weren't taken well by the waitress, and even then were added on the price of the meal. A pasta dish ended up being close to $30, all said and done, when I had asked for a pasta variation, and instead of mushrooms, extra tomatoes, and a different cheese. My boyfriend had a seafood dish that he said was great. We were dressed to the nines for a nice date night out, and were seated next to a table with a mom and her two cute, but very loud, kids, when there were other tables available in the restaurant. BF didn't want to cause a fuss so we didn't ask to be moved. read more
