As an Armenian, I know lahmajun well. When my boyfriend first told me about Mario's, I was skeptical. I've been buying lahmajun from a well-known bakery in Belmont for decades, so I was hesitant to try somewhere new. When he brought me Mario's vegetarian version this weekend, I nearly fainted, it was that good. The combination of feta, tomatoes, and spinach was absolutely sublime. Great service and great food. I hate that Mario's always get compared to Sam's when they are both so good. My husband is from Lebanon and prefers Mario's Zatar- not too heavy, always tastes fresh, and doesn't give heart burn. I love their half cheese and half zatar and choriço pies of course. I love that they keep the old school traditions alive! Reminds me when we visit Lebanon and there isn't enough of that in this part of Mass. I could smell their bakery from down the street as I drove up this weekend and it was so so good! Usually I get their pies from Portugalia when they have it but I'll be coming straight to Mario's most often on the weekend. They have a better selection of Lebanese/syrian items on the wall too. This bakery is pretty much the only one I go to in the state for spinach hand pies. Nearby Sam's is very good but if I can go to a place that is priced about the same (and priced well), similar quality, takes credit card, and has far better service...I'm no dummy. The spinach pies here are fantastic. The filling can be a bit tart for some, but I like the tangy spinach with soft bread surrounding it. So the spinach pies here aren't puff pastry ones that are common in Greek restaurants. These pies are made of bread that's similar to pita or Syrian. They don't contain feta cheese, unlike Greek spanikopita. However, Mario's has open-faced spinach pies (like a pizza) that have feta. Those are pretty good, too. If you like zaatar pies, they have them too, and they're fine. The meat pies, made of ground lamb, are also excellent. There's an ample amount of meat, seasoned with a hint of cinnamon and allspice. I know, a little weird, but it works. I've only seen the owner work here and he's a really nice guy. The large brick oven tells a story of a long-time bakery that knows what it does well and keeps at it. read more

Dear Mario's Bakery, I'm kind of mad at you, because in all the time I have lived in RI, I had no idea you were there, and now I've become certifiably obsessed with your Lebanese meat pie with yogurt. I do not understand how you can simultaneously add yogurt to the ground lamb and keep the outer shell crispy, nor understand how it is so savory, less greasy, a little sweeter and less sour overall than your competitor Sam's the next block over. AND your pies are a little cheaper too (seriously $1.25/pie?!). How dare you tempt me like that!!!! This place is awesome! Similar selection to the more popular and famous Sam's (which is also amazing) but there's usually less of a wait and a much more pleasant experience. I always feel rushed at Sam's and they are a little rude. "NO PIES FOR YOU!," nah mean? I usually get the meat pies and open cheese pies. Both are fantastic. The fresh made babaganoush and hummus are particularly good with the pita bread he sells. Really bright lemon flavor, plus way cheaper than the stuff at a supermarket. All the other items I've tried on a whim have been good. Also, the dude, I assume his name is Mario -- he's super friendly and will help you choose some good stuff. He's told me about some items that I otherwise wasn't sure about or didn't even know they carried, like the baba ganoush. Very cool dude. A much better customer service experience than Sam's. Only downside is they close at 2 or 3 pm, so you have to plan ahead if you want that late night meat pie snack :) Do yourself a favor and go see Mario! read more

I'm 67 years old and 1/2 Lebanese. My mother cooked it, my Sitoo cooked it, I've eaten a lot of it in my lifetime, so I'm a bit fussy. Mario seems friendly, we bought an assortment of baked items, they were all very good, and fresh. The prices are reasonable. The business is very clean, unlike Sam's. Only 3 people are allowed in the store at a time, masks are required, and the owner was masked. All the baked food was covered. The meat stuff is not lamb, it's beef. Nothing really stood out to me, but I've eaten a ton of stuff in my life. The last time I went to Fall River, I went to Sam's. That was maybe 6-7 years ago, and I'd never go back there. Nothing was covered, it was very dirty inside, and there were actually flies on the food and flying around. The people weren't friendly, and one look at me and you can tell I have Middle Eastern genes. Anyways, 2 thumbs up for Mario's and we will go back there. read more

Im usually a big fan of sams only because it was what i grew up with..one day when they were closed we stumbled on georges which is now the new marios. I prefer them now over sams. The taste is consistent, the dough is thicker which in my opinion makes for a better meatpie then the thin bread that breaks all apart. They are also a little greasy which to me makes the meatpie even more delicious! I go here now instead of sams...love them! Give it a try. Also staff are prompt and friendly. If you enjoy meat pies, pita bread, hummus, etc., you should definitely pay them a visit. It's a great spot, with excellent service. The meat pies are done very well here, the seasoning has more balance than Sam's, which I find to be a little too sour. The bread is also more substantial which is nice. Manaeech Zaatar was something of a revelation. I'm still trying to figure out how I went this long without knowing about it. I might need new friends. All in all, this is a really wonderful bakery run by some very nice and talented people. It's a pleasure to have places like this around. read more

I bought spinach pies broccoli pies baklava and thin crispy Cracker like snack sprinkled with Lebanese spices and sesame seeds. I went on a Sunday morning to get some Lebanese meat pies. My plan was to get 6 from Mario's and 6 from Sam's bakery. The parking lot was empty at 10am, not a great sign. I went in and found the place clean an very quiet. I was helped immediately, bought my 6 pies and left. The pies were cold leading me to think they had been cooked earlier in the morning,not a problem. I then went to Sam's bakery, the parking lot was full, luckily I have a handicap parking pass. I went in and the place was packed, not the prettiest place around but then that is not what you are there for. I bought my 6 pies which had just come out of the oven. They were selling pies as fast as they could make them. with no less than 6 people working just to keep up with the demand. When I went out to the car I had to have one nice and hot right there in the parking lot, plus another one on the drive home. Later I did a side by side comparison. Both pies are very good the dough is nice and the meat is lean. The difference comes in the seasoning. Mario's has a very mild flavor, not as much of the spices as sam's. I liked Sam's spice level more, but if you find it too strong Mario's would be for you. Mario's is a great bakery but not nearly as popular as Sam's Bakery one street over. read more

Went to Mario's bakery this afternoon for meat pies. Left with a whole lot of goodness: meat pies, open faced spinach and cheese, open faced cheese and tomato. And Chourico rolls. Mario is always so polite and pleasant. I've eaten SAMs pies since I was a little girl. But I have to say Mario's is my favorite now. Contrary to other reviews, I've always gotten warm pies there and never did I feel I had to buy the pre packaged ones. Mario will gladly sell you as many or as few as you want. Searched through yelp.com to look for best places to eat at fall river , found sam bakery , walked there but it was closed , map showed mario's lebanese bakery just a block away so we thought of trying it ! We went there at 5:30 pm , the shop was closed , however coincidentally the owner had come because he had some work at the shop , the working hours are 5 am - 2pm , he was kind enough to serve us beyond working hours 1) Hummus - there are two kinds of hummus served here , one made by the owner which he said he prepares by soaking the chickpeas overnight or you can buy ready made canned hummus on a rack sold as grocery . Not to mention he does have a small collection of middle eastern food as groceries - zaatar , canned hummus , canned baba ghanouj , several types of olives and few other grocery items from the middle east 2) Meat pies - very reasonably priced , the same price you would expect to buy if you bought them from the middle east , 1.25 dollars each , 2 should be filling for a meal , had meat pie and chourico pie , recommend both and you can top each bite with a spoonful of hummus under the recommendation of the owner 3) Had green leaves and tabbouleh and pita bread prepared as well fresh in the restaurant Said he delivered orders via fedex and usps to places as far as LA It was a nice experience , it was nice of him to serve us beyond restaurant timings read more

I came here because the competition, where I normally go, was closed. And what do you know? I discovered that I like Mario's better! Of course the meat pies are really good, and the open cheese pies too. But the "broccoli and cheese" pies are surprisingly terrific! I went back two days later and bought a whole bunch more. As a Fall River native but living out-of-town, I found Mario's Lebanese/Syrian Bakery who not only has delicious bakery products but ships. Mario bakes the items the day before shipment, freezes them and ships 2nd Day Priory Mail. I placed a large order consisting of meat pies, spinach pies, chourico pies, open spinach with cheese, open meat with tomato, and manaeech with and without onions. My order consisted of over 27 pounds and everything arrived fresh and delicious. I then froze everything upon arrival. Mario also went to the Ho Me Chow Mein factory and included fresh noodles and gravy mix in my order. If I would have thought of it, I may have gotten some Autocrat Coffee Syrup if he had it.
