If you know, you know , Burke Street Pizza is one of my go to spots. Their wings are always on point, the hoagies are solid, and that Philly cheesesteak is So good. And of course, the pizza speaks for itself. Consistently fresh, flavorful, and exactly what you're craving when you want good pizza. There's space to dine in if you're hanging out, or you can easily grab it to go. Parking is super convenient right beside the building or if your lucky, right up front This is one of those reliable spots you can count on every time. Definitely a favorite of mine!

This was one of my favorite pizza spots, but I can say now something is off; the cheese pizza did not taste the same! It actually had no flavor at all; the hot pepperoni one also had no flavor whatsoever. I got maybe 1 bite of something spicy, but it was just a hard piece of bread with very little sauce and no cheese. The wings were cooked right, but without any sauce, it's just very bland. I don't know what is going on, but they need to step up the game back to what it was. Now, I have not been here in about 1 and 1/2 years, but I don't think my taste buds have changed that much.

Hard the beat the lunch special #3 right out of the oven at Burke St. Awesome pizza, cool location and great price. First place I've ever seen with Bubly as a fountain drink option.

Pizza by the slice!! Yum yum!!

Burke Street Pizza (downtown) is the BEST New York Style pizza around! Served as a whole pie, or by the slice, you just can't beat it. We ordered Pepperoni by the slice, and loved it. They also have very good wings! Lots of flavorings. We like Teriyaki. They are crispy, and sweet. Lots of good quality napkins! Beer is cold!! We've been going to Burke Street Pizza for 25 years and love it!

Good value for money, ~$4 for am extra large slice! Service is a little slow though. Waited probably over 10min for one to go cheese. Nice enough interior though, traditional decor and artwork. The pizza itself was pretty good, I would come back to try some other stuff sometime. @azfitfoodfun

This is a great spot to get a slice. As you can see from my photo, the slice is like the size of a small newborn, so, one slice will do you, that is for sure. And they are not ashamed of putting hella toppings on your slice. I have also gotten a whole pie from here, and those are topped similarly as well. This is a good cheap joint to grab a slice, and something quick. This place gives you the vibes on a New York Pizzeria, I loved the brick wall, and galley style ordering area and seating area. If you need a slice of pizza, and a drink I highly recommend this spot, their food is good, and the service matches the experience of the food!

Idk why this place doesn't have better reviews!! The pizza is phenomenal. The slices are large and flavorful. Service is quick. What more do you need???

My friend and I ordered delivery from here and man, it was good! The edge crust was very light and had excellent crunch and chew. It was loaded with pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms and extra mozzarella. The center of the pie was gooey and foldable. We both loved it and had plenty of leftovers. We each ate a cold piece the next morning. We couldn't resist! They deliver themselves for less than $5, so you don't get inflated Door Dash menu prices and large delivery charges. The driver was very nice too.

ITALIAN SUB - a closer look at the fillings

This was my first time at this location. It's a rather small place, rectangularly shaped, seating maybe 20 or so. It is rather plain, a bit old school, softly lit. I ordered the 8" Italian Sub ($10.30) with mayo, salt, pepper, and oregano. Traffic was lite so the sub was out in 10 minutes or so. This is a very good sub, the crusty roll well filled with 3 meats and provolone, then topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, banana peppers, mayo, salt, pepper and oregano. This sub does not come with a side. Parking was not a problem but it could be a bit sporty at certain times. The service was efficient but not at all engaging, which is fine!

    Lunch special. $10

Great place for lunch. Nothing fancy, but good for the $. I got the lunch special for $10. Huge slice, great salad, and a drink.

    PEPPERONI
    Alyssa M.

It's quick, it's fast, it is greasy and it's a large slice of pizza that's piping hot and the crust is thinner. Quick service - got a $4.45 pizza slice in less than 5 minutes at 10:30 on a Saturday night. What more could you ask for? It's not the best pizza I've ever had, but it's the best pizza for when you're craving pizza. You know?

This does mean that there is a large outdoor courtyard where you can eat a pizza which is shared with other local businesses. It was busy, and I was concerned that I had erred by not ordering in advance, but my pizza was ready quickly. Like, remarkably quickly; I just ordered, hopped over to the bathroom, and it was done within a couple of minutes of being back. And when it's done properly, a Neapolitan pizza does not take very long to cook, so clearly the operation leading up to that point is efficient. Substantively, the menu has pizzas, a couple of salads, and some dessert options. I indulge in all of the above. The salad I got is quite impressive and is too much for one person at one time. It is an interesting mix of ingredients with nuts, blueberries, and apricot dressing. I am always a tad reluctant to order a white pizza because I like the tomato sauce so much, but the onions and mushrooms on the one I got were suitably mouthwatering. There was a bit of char on this pizza although I could have used more being the char fan that I am. Their version of tiramisu is a cake slice which is quite heavy on the sweet cheese. The vegan options are basically limited to getting a pizza without cheese, which I'm sure is some good bread and tomato sauce but not much of a meal; typical of most Italian places.

Housed in a former Coca-Cola bottling plant, Grandpa Joe's pays homage to the site's history through its red and black décor. The menu offers salads, floats, and soft serve though pizza is the star attraction. It is served by the rectangular slab (about $8 per). Order at the counter, grab a number for your table, and wait for the oven to work its magic. For our first visit, my wife and I split a trio of slabs -- an Italian sausage, a mushroom, and a tomato and burrata -- with a side of marinara. All three were excellent. The focaccia crusts were crispy while still retaining airiness. From melty mozzarella to savory, fennel-forward sausage, Grandpa Joe's uses high-quality ingredients. The marinara was good: bright, fresh, and just a bit sweet. The mushroom slab came topped with arugula and shaved parmesan. Despite seeming like a gimmick (pizza? Salad? Why not both?), it proved an effective combination: the arugula's bitterness played well with the mushrooms' earthy flavors. There will be a certain type of pizza connoisseur for whom anything that isn't New York style is, by definition, fraudulent. For those with horizons broad enough to enjoy a thicker crust, Grandpa Joe's is the best of that kind that I've found in the Triad.

When we want pizza, I'm looking for authentic New York style or some brick oven baked charred crust. It was pretty crowded when we arrived but we didn't have to wait long before we were seated. Dominique our Server helped us decide what to order. She was awesome and fun and we could tell she loved her job and the food there. I love that! She highly recommended the garlic knots so we started with those. A surprizingly small eatery, has a separate dining area with booths and some tables. Our server was professional and kind, we ordered our drinks and a start with their version of Bruschetta. This was an excellent start for our evening there. A beautiful presentation of five pieces, nicely toasted with paper thin prosciutto de parma, fresh mozzarella, chopped tomato, capers and balsamic reduction drizzle. Delicious, rich, crunchy, sweet, savory and full flavored. I went for the Parmigiana with chicken, served over angel hair with a rich tomato sauce. A hearty meal, the chicken cutlet was breaded nicely, and pounded thin, cooked very well. The pasta underneath cooked al dante, and it all smoothered in a rich maranara. We also tried the Mediterranean pizza, a 12" and it was huge. A well made pie, loaded with ingredients. The combination of fresh pesto with the mushrooms, olives, banana peppers, roasted red peppers and feta was a solid choice. Along with a cold draft Stella it made for an very good meal. 4 Stars a solid choice for a good meal 01242

Always on the quest to try new things, this was our lunch time stop once day while out and about. It was a beautiful sunny day, and I appreciated that there were outside seating options. There were both exposed and shaded areas, plus plenty of indoor seating. The whole thing their brand revolves around is a large wood-fired oven, and you can see this prominently when you walk in the door. The subtle smoky smell really adds to the atmosphere and makes you hungry right away. We came during lunch time, so we took advance of their lunch specials, where you get a half serving of a pizza plus another item (we both opted for wings as the other item.) I opted for the 4X4 pizza (4 meats) and the Garlic Rosemary wings, while my wife got the Bronx Bomber pizza and buffalo wings. On both sides, the wings were delicious in an unexpected way, grilled but with a nice char, and full of meat. The seasonings on both were just right, and I didn't even bother dipping mine in any dressing. The 4x4 pizza was quite greasy, with oil dripping off when you pick it up. I used a bunch of napkins to blot what I could off, but the amount of grease got in the way of enjoying the flavor. To be fair, it is on an olive oil base, but when you combine that with all the intrinsic fat of the processed meats, it was too much. The Bronx Bomber, however, was much better. With spicy Italian sausage, prosciutto, mozzarella, Gorgonzola, and topped with fresh oregano, it was flavorful but balanced, and good to the last bite. The server we had, who's name escapes me, was very friendly, attentive, and made helpful suggestions. I'd certainly come back here another day for lunch, though I would pass on the 4x4 Pizza next time.

Yet I'd never visited this location in the area of Hanes Mall, at least not until recently. This outpost might be a bit tougher to spot from the roadway than its more northerly cousin, as the orientation of the building leaves it hard to see from Hanes Mall Boulevard and it's quite a ways back from Silas Creek Parkway. The interior felt more spacious though, and even included a bar. I was here for lunch on a workday though. Quickly seated, I found the menu seemed a bit different than I'd become accustomed to. The lunch specials were different also, and so it took me some time to choose my meal. The waitress was patient with me, and eventually I selected the tortellini Bolognese. She rapidly returned with complimentary bread, which again I found quite different from what I remembered of the other Elizabeth's location. This was more of a sliced white loaf, and while the accompaniment had plenty of garlic I didn't find it or the bread as addictive as I'd experienced at the University franchise. The main dish was pretty dang good though. A full plate of lovely round orbs of pasta, cooked nicely and smothered in a delicious sauce, with melted cheese interspersed throughout -- the tortellini was a delicious selection and quite filling too. I found the restaurant clean and the service prompt. Not bad at all...but I was surprised at how different things seemed here from what I'd previously experienced on the other side of the city. I'd come back here, but I think I prefer the Coliseum option (especially for the better bread), even if the decor and the space itself didn't seem as nice as this one. 3.5 stars.
