Most pizza joints, including this one, make their pies and then sit them underneath a holding area, and reheat when ordered later in the day. I still absolutely love that pizza. When I showed up at opening on a weekday, the pies were just baked and completely fresh. Both the pepperoni and cheese slice were perfect. I love cold pizza, reheated pizza, next day for breakfast pizza, you name it. But there's something about a slice or pie that hits your plate as soon as it's baked. And I had to test the pizza a bit later in the day. Still what you'd expect from a solid pizza joint. The pies here are delicious, whether fresh, reheated or cold leftovers the next day. This was one of my favorite pizza spots, but I can say now something is off; the cheese pizza did not taste the same! It actually had no flavor at all; the hot pepperoni one also had no flavor whatsoever. I got maybe 1 bite of something spicy, but it was just a hard piece of bread with very little sauce and no cheese. The wings were cooked right, but without any sauce, it's just very bland. I don't know what is going on, but they need to step up the game back to what it was. I swung by here after a work event that was down the street. My colleagues raved about this place, and we were all starving. You can order online and they give you a range of 20 - 30 minute. I went around the 30 min mark and found our pizza to be hot and ready. We got a 16" with pepperonis and mushrooms. I found the 16" to be sufficient enough pizza for 3 people. I also would say - as a non-New Yorker - that the pizza felt authentically New York style, but I am going based on my experience with other New York style pizza places. I was pleasantly surprised with the pizza - typically I find pizza with pepperoni to be too greasy but I actually enjoyed the pepperoni they had. I also want to give a shout out to the mushrooms, which were so incredibly fresh, it was the perfect balance to the rich pepperoni flavor. I paid just shy of $20 (because they had a $2 off cheese pizza special) and felt that was reasonable for the amount and quality of pizza we received. This is a great spot to get a slice. As you can see from my photo, the slice is like the size of a small newborn, so, one slice will do you, that is for sure. And they are not ashamed of putting hella toppings on your slice. I have also gotten a whole pie from here, and those are topped similarly as well. This is a good cheap joint to grab a slice, and something quick. This place gives you the vibes on a New York Pizzeria, I loved the brick wall, and galley style ordering area and seating area. My friend and I ordered delivery from here and man, it was good! The edge crust was very light and had excellent crunch and chew. It was loaded with pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms and extra mozzarella. The center of the pie was gooey and foldable. We both loved it and had plenty of leftovers. We each ate a cold piece the next morning. We couldn't resist! They deliver themselves for less than $5, so you don't get inflated Door Dash menu prices and large delivery charges. I ordered the 8" Italian Sub ($10.30) with mayo, salt, pepper, and oregano. Traffic was lite so the sub was out in 10 minutes or so. This is a very good sub, the crusty roll well filled with 3 meats and provolone, then topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, banana peppers, mayo, salt, pepper and oregano. This sub does not come with a side. Parking was not a problem but it could be a bit sporty at certain times. The service was efficient but not at all engaging, which is fine! read more

I can't believe I've been in W-S this long and have yet to come here! I don't get pizza much since most places don't do single servings of pizza and I don't want to have a whole pizza in my fridge. I was really craving pizza though, so I sought out a place that sold it by the slice and came across Burke Street Pizza. When I walked in, I was assuming that they would give me one of the slices that I saw sitting behind the counter that appeared cold, but to my delight, they served me up a fresh slice. Now I've never been up north to try a real NY style slice, but the similar slices I've had in NC thus far have had a chewy crust and were hit or miss. The crust was so great compared to what I'm used to! The sauce and pepperoni were also tasty. Maybe I'd want a little more cheese, but I also was contemplating the cheese slice instead but I'll probably try that next time. I also enjoyed being able to watch the pizza being tossed right next to me. That and the cozy brick interior felt like I'd gone further than Winston for my meal tonight. The interior is clean, the low-key lighting felt familiar, nostalgic even, and decorated with NY themed photography hanging on the walls. Makes sense. They tout a NY style pizza. Located near a few bars it's a great place for a late bite. It's open early and has a regular lunch crowd. Menu has other Italian favorites as well which I honestly have not tried. Has its on parking lot as well as street parking. Decent amount of seating available. Casual atmosphere with working class during day and bar crowd late night. There are plenty of options, or you can creat-your-own. I like the arugula and prosciutto, but the classic cheese is always a nice choice. I also liked the fried ravioli that I got this time, which comes with a really nice marinara. I decided to order online tonight and I paid a total of $29, including a $3.00 delivery fee and $5.00 tip. I called 45 minutes later to see how long it would be because my doorbell isn't working and I wanted an estimate of when I should expect someone... plus, I was starving. They said anywhere between an hour and an hour and a half. When I asked if it was ready, they said yes, so I asked if I could just pick it up. It seemed like it would be a problem but someone else came on the phone and said that would be fine. When I got there I asked about my order and the girl at the counter went looking. The manager (I'm assuming) yelled at this nice girl because instead of looking for my phone number, she looked for my name. What? Why so rude to her, in front of coworkers and customers? Anyway, I asked if I could have a refund for the delivery fee and the dude begins to give me attitude and says no, that he'll give me credit. Honestly, I just worked my fourth nursing shift in a row at Wake and didn't want to deal with it; I literally had zero energy to argue back. I just wanted food in my belly since I hadn't eaten since dinner the night before. Food isn't the only thing that matters when looking at quality. Burke Street Pizza is one of those nostalgic places that just hit different. While I think their hours have now changed, in my early 20s, they stayed open til 2 or 3AM. You'd see a line forming and extending out the door as Burke Street Pub next door finished up their last call. I spend many late nights enjoying a pepperoni slice or a Philly cheesesteak. I always enjoy the fried ravioli and it's a convenient spot for pizza because they sell it by the slice. The pepperoni slice is of note - I mean, it's the perfect slice in my opinion. Cheesy, meaty and a little bit greasy... in a good way! It's a great ratio of sauce to crust to cheese to toppings. I tried the dill pickle pizza they had on special tonight and it was unique and yummy! Clearly by far the best New York style slice I've had since moving to Nc. Nothing compares and I've had alot. Size of slice is huge and the sauce tastes like they flew it in from Italy. So we placed an online order at 5:06 knowing they would be busy on a Friday night. We arrived at 5:56 to pick up our order (large pie and knots) and gave our name. They had no idea what we were talking about. After scrambling for 5 minutes the pizza maker told me 10-15 minutes. Very disappointing as we did give plenty of time and were quoted in the email 20-30 minutes. We gave an hour- I expected to get my pizza cold, not invisible. Zero compensation given or apologies..really zero effs given.
