After living in this area over 10 years, we stumbled upon this place in a desperate hunt for quality pizza one night. We were over the fast food scene and wanted something yummy. We ordered a pizza to share. Something simple as pepperoni, and it was delicious! We also had mozzarella sticks that were great as well! We've added this to our list of pizza places we love! The ordering process was easy and by the time we arrived, it was hot and ready! We've only done take-out so I can't speak for the interior and the vibe, yet. With the cost of food being what it has become, we need to start holding restaurants to higher standards. My in laws offered to pick up some food and bring it over- my husband called in the order, yet when my in laws arrived, they had not yet made half the meal. Instead of apologizing for the delay, they said my husband had changed his mind and didn't want it?? What? Caused a lot of confusion and waiting around for two seniors. Then, a wasted half hour and about $60 later, we got the food. The pizza was floppy, the sauce was sickly sweet with way too much oregano. The chicken parmesan dinner, at $15, was not real chicken. It was a pile of overcooked spaghetti noodles served alongside two spongy, foamy fake chicken nugget- type breasts smothered in the same sickly sweet sauce. This is embarrassing. If you're not even serving real chicken breast, just don't sell it, or specify on your menu that the chicken is the fake nugget type. Never would I think I had to ask if the chicken in chicken Parmesan is real, fresh chicken or not from an Italian restaurant, and especially not at this price point. This meal was really frustrating, weakly prepared and with the cheapest possible ingredients. Go anywhere else. This was a huge fail. read more

Bottom line: Mario's Pizza turned out some good pizza slices to take home and enjoy. Only cheese and pepperoni slices were available with no other toppings for take out slices that night and a longer than expected wait during a holiday week paid off though in the end, enjoyable thin slice NY style pizza. The Deets: Over the holiday season, of course there was that one night that the mood for cooking had long since passed and we wanted something simple and low key...pizza, right? Word was from my family that Mario's Pizza was the local business to hit for some good pizza so we committed to going here. Deciding on cheese pizza slices and a slice of pepperoni to pick up (as they were not doing any other slice types for the evening we were told, maybe volume or staffing?), we phoned in our order and drove off in the soaking rain to pick it up. We had one person that wanted "everything" on one of the slices so there was a bit of compromise. My guess about order volume may be true as when I arrived and paid for the order, I was then informed that it would be at least another 15 minutes. I was not alone in waiting for orders as the time went on, more came in and waited on orders, so these guys were busy and popular but not too many people were actually sitting in the restaurant eating (they have a good sized seating area)...the take out volume of business was probably a good sign about how good they are, hopefully. That hope paid off...their New York style pizza was pretty tasty. Their pizza had thin crust which I like, as well as fairly good slice size. I'd say for a pretty solid pizza choice in the Clemmons/Lewisville area, I would definitely visit Mario's Pizza again in the future. I normally would say more 3-3.5 stars for the lack of toppings available on slices and the pretty long wait even after a good drive over but I have to give them the benefit of the doubt since it was a holiday week and say go with 4 stars as they got the job done, the pizza was good, and the staff was nice when waiting/picking up the meal. read more

Pretty solid pizza coming from this location! I ordered on DoorDash, and I would do it again! I enjoyed the crispy chicken pie. Also got the Buffalo chicken pie, but I do not like the onions on it. I would hold that next time. Didn't expect that because it's the first time I've actually seen that come on a Buffalo chicken pie. The dough was a pleasant bite with a nice chew to it and fairly seasoned as well. Not perfect but happy to have had it. read more

Picked up food from here to go for a last minute dinner idea and it was pretty good. They had a special on a Buffalo chicken pizza so I had to try that. It was good but not what I expected. There were onions on it which I've only ever seen on BBQ chicken pizza, good but didn't taste like the usual Buffalo chicken pizza because of that. I really liked the garlic knots, tons of garlic and oil flavor without being too much. The side of sauce was really good! We had the Italian sub too which was okay, I wasn't expecting it to be hot so that was surprising and there was a little too much ham on it for me. We also got a side of meatballs for our daughter and I didn't try them but she ate them right up! Overall pretty good food though and I'll be back to try more of their specialty pizzas and get more knots! read more

Ordered takeout from here. It was delicious! The garlic knots were the only things that I would never order for takeout again. They could've been really delicious, but the texture was like they had been microwaved. Cannoli (Italian Pastry): absolutely, phenomenal! Garlic Knots: did not have a great experience. The texture was almost like they had been microwaved Jalapeño Poppers: these were sooooooo good! Tons of cheese in the middle, and they remove the seeds, so not too spicy. Yummmm! Onion Rings (Beer-Battered): love the texture of beer battered onion rings, and these did not disappoint! Meatball Sub: it was OK. I feel like it was missing salt or something. Just wasn't anything really special. Sorry guys, but I think I prefer going to Subway for a meatball sub. Pepperoni Slice: pizza slices are huuuuuuge! I was like, " that's what I'm talkin' 'bout!!!" I've been coming to Mario's for 20 years (first the Hanes Mall location, now the place in Clemmons). We've taken our kids after school concerts and plays for years. It's currently a Sunday at 7:30pm. I'm ANGRY that when I placed my order and sat down that I was reminded they close in 30 minutes and they wanted to start cleaning. It's SEVEN THIRTY. They need to stay open later. This has to be cutting into their profitability. Not only did they make the environment unwelcoming, the pizza came out undercooked. It was pouring rain and they kicked everyone at two different tables out of the place at exactly 8pm. There was no reason for that. read more

I picked up some slices and garlic knots from this location recently and it left so much to be desired. The pizza was NOT thoroughly cooked - I ended up having to put both slices into my own oven when I got home because they were not done. The garlic knots were extremely dry and almost stale tasting. How the heck have I not already reviewed Mario's??? When school started last August, I was so busy learning the new online routine that cooking simply was not an option. Mario's was nearby, and I had enjoyed their pizza before, so I ordered from them. Every night for a week. Don't judge me. They didn't. And ever since, Mario's has been a weekly staple for me, most recently last night. Their pizza is that good. Originally founded in eastern North Carolina in 1981 by Brooklyn-raised brothers Vinny, Mario, and Tony (no, I'm not making this up), Mario's pizza moved to the Triad area in the mid 1980s, where they now have 8 locations, though I have only been to this one. They use family recipes that go all the way back to when the family was in Calabria, Italy. And it shows. Their dough is excellent, and their sauce is bright and fresh--sometimes I order extra sauce. It can get a bit messy, but that sauce is so good. I have been here dozens of times and have always had excellent service and thoroughly enjoyed my meal. If you are looking for excellent, authentic Brooklyn style pizza from people who know how to make it, Mario's is the place for you. read more

We live in Winston but go to Clemmons Mario's for our pizza. We literally buy 1,2 pizzas EVERY week. The last few pizzas I'm going to say boldly there HAS TO BE a new pizza maker. I stopped in to this location for lunch remembering that they had great lunch specials. For $10 I got a sub French fries and a drink. I went with the Italian sub dressed I think the Mario way. It was very good. For my side I got the French fries and the person taking my order suggested adding Cajun seasoning to them. They had a nice kick. DO NOT EAT HERE !! WORST PIZZA EVER !! My friend & I stopped in Mario's in Clemmons last nite. Have never been to this one. The one on Hanes Mall Blvd has always been good. It wasn't crowded but the there were several Food Delivery/Grub Hub types service people waiting. We placed our order & then the line was out the door. It took 30 mins to get a simple Pepperoni & Green Pepper pizza ! It was NOT done ! We were starving & my friend is too much of a wimp to take it back...so we tried to eat some of it & took the rest home. Today I tried to "finish cooking" a slice & it was horrible ! Definitely poor quality ingredients...& super greasy cheese. I threw it all in the garbage. If was still just as limp as it was the nite before...even after 25 mins in my oven. NEVER again. This is by far my favorite restaurant in the area. I always get two slices of cheese pizza, which fills me up. The slices are huge yet still cheap! My family and I have been coming to this location for years, but today has been the straw that broke the camel's back. They have inflated their prices to where we can eat at a fancy restaurant for three for cheaper. Last year, three people cost $25. Mid-November, three cost $38. Tonight, three cost $54. The food has remained the same quality and serving size (although they keep changing the recipe for the mozzarella sticks), and never should have been the price we were charged tonight. I understand the need for raising prices, but this is excessive. We know their prices haven't increased their payroll, as we never see the same cashier twice. Overall, the egregious pricing and lack of service earned this low-star rating. The only reason they earned a second was the good food. We will not be returning unless we see a stark drop in prices. There are many other casual Italian places that come with better prices and actual service, and they will be getting our patronage. read more

The best pepperoni calzone I've had since leaving Chicago! We also had the chicken parmigiana with spaghetti and it came with a side salad (yum) and garlic knots (also yum) I recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for Italian food at a considerable bargain. Tried to use their App but was told "we do not have a scanner" (to scan my card)- so why do you have an app?? I grew up going to Mario's pizza so tonight we stopped in for some Togo food. Our pizza was so wet and soggy we couldn't eat it. Our garlic knots weren't even garlic and our wings were squishy. The blue cheese dressing was absolutely RANK and seemed old. It had a tan color to it. We will never go back in. read more

Good news: great pizza and wings. Bad news: 'water policy' stinks. Pizza and wings were the real deal; better than I expected. After reading other reviews yeah I can see how it might seem overpriced but didn't occur to me at the time. What DID rub me the wrong way was the "water policy". We asked for water and were given bottles. Told the cashier we wanted tap water and pointed to the soda machine but we were told "that water doesn't work". Being lied to is worse than being told "it's 50 cents for a cup". Out of curiosity I pressed the water lever on the soda machine and li and behold, water came forth. In their defense, the bottle was only 60 cents but I hate wasting a plastic bottle no matter the price. Read another review where the owner replied back stating that they have to charge for water in order to provide a high quality product (or words to that effect). Sorry but that reply didn't make it past my BS filter. Isn't this the same water they use for cooking? If there's something "wrong" with the tap water, that needs to be fixed! Like the food but am very annoyed that you can not drink fountain water. You are forced to buy a bottled water, tea or soda. They are happy to sell you a water cup for 1.79. Went here with my son yesterday and ordered a 15" pepperoni pizza to share. I will have to say I should've went with the 10" because the thing was huge! A ton of pizza for me and a 5 year old lol!! The pizza it's self was OK. Nothing special. Way too greasy. I had to let the grease drip off or wipe it off before I could eat it. It does suck that you have to buy a bottle of water, mainly because I like fresh lemon with my water and you can't exactly put fresh lemon into a bottle of water.
