This place has a large menu and you will certainly find something that appeals to you. I've had a burrito a la diabla. This burrito has a perfect blend of heat and flavor. The heat isn't overpowering, but you know it's there. The service is fantastic. When the cook had questions about my order the lady came out to verify if my order was correct. This places makes me so mad. Only cause I can't have it everyday. Everything was so delicious down to the salsas. If I was on my deathbed and had to ask for one more meal it'd be this. Moved to Merced a few months ago, this location is very convenient because its so nearby my home. I've had the asada burrito many times and it never fails. Pretty big from what I'm used to in San Jose. The asada nachos are really good too, huge portions. Tostadas de camaron was decent, it was simply pico de gallo with some shrimps on too. Although I wish they had better salsas, something a bit spicier. Customer service is good, always friendly. Overall, its a good place to stop by for food and be really full. read more

Ordered a carne asada quesidella. In the picture there was just meat and cheese. They put avocado and Pico de Gallo on it. When I asked him to remake it with just meat and cheese, like the picture, he looked mad. And I just wanted to leave. But my friend waited for it and he made it exactly the same but worse!! I purchased a carne asada nachos. The meat was not clean at all. There was nothing but grissel and fat over all the nachos hidden by cheese. I took it back and this what i noticed customer service does not exist. Jessica was wanting to make me another dish but it was likely all the meat was like that I wanted a refund. She then backed down stating that she could not refund the 8.50 and I would have to come back in the morning. I observed Jessica and the other waitress to take money handle my bag and talk on phone without washing their hands or having gloves on and on one occasion a gentlemen offered to pay for the food and Jessica was going to accept it again as I already paid. In light of COVID 19. I have been in other restaurants and they are practicing washing hands and both were back and forth on phone. Then handle food without washing or sanitizing their hands. The one and only reason I like going to Merced. Atmosphere: Kinda scary, feels a lot like Mexico Service: I have not had the pleasure of actually ordering food. My hubby usually does it in espanol. I have been going to Mario's taco shop for over 20 years and have never had a problem. Today I ordered 3 plates of food and when I got home half way through my nachos i found a hair. I called them to let them know what i found and they said to return it. I returned it and when i got there one of the cooks was laughing and speaking spanish assuming i didn't understand saying for them not to sell me food anymore and I responded in spanish saying dont worry I wont return even though I have been coming for 20 years. I go to my car upset and called to speak to the manager they left me on hold for 10 minutes and then hung up on me. I called back and told the manager what was said to me and I heard him question his cooks and they all denied saying anything. For all I know it could have been the manager who said it and was playing it off I dont know. I asked him what kind of customer service is that and he proceeded to tell me that he would take care of it. I said no need I'm not returning. Great find! I gotta thank my fiancé for this one. Had a Dr. appt. im Merced so she looked up a place for dinner, and found Mario's. As we drove up she looks at me and was like "do you think it will be safe to eat here?" first time eating here, got a breakfast burrito it was good but nothing crazy, they do mix a bit of salsa in so it's not so dry like other breakfast burritos i've had & it wasn't soggy either. they also followed directions which is why i'm giving it 4/5 instead of 3. i honestly didn't like the bacon it wasn't crispy & the taste was off as well. but if i hadn't gotten the bacon, i think it's pretty standard not my favorite but not the worst i've had either! definitely good for a quick hangover cure. read more

Not too many yelpers in Merced apparently, but definitely worth the stop if you are traveling through. Absolutely one of the finest Mexican restaurants you'll every find, if taste is your measure. To top it off, an order-the-counter establishment makes it an incredible value. Met a 'Regular" young local while waiting in line who just raved about the place, saying enthusiastically, "everything is fantastic". Upon her recommendation I ordered the Carne Asada Quesadilla. Full of flavor, well seasoned, not greasy, simply fabulous. She also said the nachos were great too; I'll have to try that next time. My wife had the Chicken Enchilada and contemplated that this may have been the best Enchillada she's ever had. Next time I have the opportunity to travel near Merced, I will go out of my way to hit this place again. Not too far off Hwy99, and worth the detour. Can't wait. read more

That was the worst Al Pastor taco I've ever had. It tasted like it was soaked in pineapple juice instead of roasted and seasoned well. Next time I'm either going to my usual taco truck or J&Rs. At least you can taste the seasoning and not be overwhelmed by pineapple flavor in the other stores. You had one chance and that's a hell no for me. read more

I had two tacos, carne asada and al pastor, both of which were excellent. Two bean and cheese burritos that were quite tasty and an excellent price. We had a plain cheese quesodilla that was deliciously cooked in butter and had ample, dripping out the sides amount of cheese. The quesodilla was a meal in itself. Finally the highlight of the meal was the al pastor burrito that was absolutely massive. It was 25 percent meat, 25 percent sour cream, and about 50 percent a delicious mixture of rice and beans. Overall the meal was excellent, but we ordered too much because of the large portions. We'll definitely be back. read more

Lots of flies around the place which is a little concerning. They do have screens up but I've noticed a few openings around the building. They are usually speedy with food, but I can see how they can get overwhelmed when there is a big crowd since it's such a small place with usually one cook. read more

Small eating area really only two or three tables but there is a few picnic benches outside. Your only allowed a few sides off carrots and salsa which kind of sucks. I always have my husband go in and order because sometimes the person taking your order doesn't speak English well and I feel like an idiot lol. Now for the good things. This is my favorite place for shrimp burritos. They have hands down the best It's delicious. My husband gets the tongue burrito he says it's very good I've tried the meat it was very tender and I think if I didn't know what it was I would love it, but I can't get past the visual of a cows tongue. He also says they have good chili Verde. The kids have had the nachos they are good. The Carne asada burrito is pretty good. And the basic hamburger and fries are good. At this location I had a good chicken torta.Small place with tables out side to eat at w.shade. At the location (eat in) on 16th close to G street I had one of the best, Chili Verde burritos I ever had. Never have had anything I didn't like.Great cheese enchiladas, I get mine with onions in top.
