I recently visited New Orleans for a wedding and wanted to get my crazy-travel hair done for what proved to be an epic three-day party. I booked an appointment with Peyton at Mariposa Salon as it was near my hotel. Let me just say - this place is great. From the receptionist to the stylists - everyone was kind, talented and a joy to work with. Peyton, my stylist, was exceptional. Not only did he make my hair look great, but he also helped several members of our group make "day-of " appointments at the last minute. In addition, he recommended great products to combat humidity and cancel frizz. I gave him absolutely NO GUIDANCE WHATSOEVER on how to do my hair - and he did it perfectly. Easy to book online, received exactly what I needed, everyone is super nice and I had a nice time while there. Can't wait to go back! To start, making an appointment was very easy; just booked online in a few minutes, even as a new client. Then getting there was pretty easy with their location and parking was easy (off street / neighborhood). I can imagine parking might be tricky during certain times of the day, but overall happy I didn't have to pay to park. The salon is beautiful inside and out, without being overdone. Lots of natural light from the large windows! I was greeted immediately upon arrival and offered a drink, then taken to the station. Jewel is a dream to work with! I forgot to complete this review when I initially came in July 2023. Tyler did a wonderful job on my hair which was overdue for dimensional coloring. Naturally my hair is jet black but Tyler carefully brought it back to the glorious golden blonde I love. This review is LONG overdue. Oh my goodness, Taj is an absolute 1) dream of a person and 2) amazing professional. We were in New Orleans last month for a wedding and given that where I'm living currently salons were not open, I was looking for a salon and stylist that would be able to carry out my wishes for a wave perm. Not only was the owner super responsive via email, she recommended Taj to me and from there I set up my appointment. Almost two months later, my perm is still just as amazing as when I stepped out of the salon. Taj knew exactly what to do and she hit the nail on my head for what I was wanting - a true, beachy look. The first thing that made this location magical is the fact that I could get an important, it's super hard to get appointments with natural hairstylist, but I was able to book on their super easy online system. Stylist. I had the pleasure of going to Taj, who is wonderful! She is very knowledgeable, super helpful and gets everything done efficiently. When I walked into my appointment I went right to her chair, which is very impressive to me! She got things started and gave me full attention to figure out what's my current hair situation as well as what I would like to do. I really appreciate her professionalism and great personality. She is 100% full superb customer services. She is also a great natural hairstylist. It's very hard to find someone who can deal with thick natural hair, but she can! I was able to get a twist up-do. Definitely try her out. In addition, the prices are reasonable and you can do add-ons such as deep condition. I Atmosphere. The location is just so cute. You feel sexy going in this location! Its super clean, friendly, and modern. It doesn't hurt that they have an assortment of beverages including mimosas! Parking. It's a street parking area, but you shouldn't have any trouble finding parking in a two block radius. read more

After getting just one professional haircut in the past 13 months and poorly applying to box dyes at home, I was in great need of some serious hair care. I relocated to New Orleans fully vaccinated the last week of March 2021 and was more than ready to find someone to give tame my tresses and show them some love. Taj was recommended to me on a FB group and I feel so fortunate to have found her! After assessing my pandemic hair, she slayed the gray away, evened out my awful multi-toned coppery color, sat me down for a deep conditioner, and expertly blow dried and flat ironed my curls before trimming off the dead, frayed ends. And she did all of this while giving tips on hair care and maintenance in a way that shows she knows her stuff and truly cares about hair health. Taj exuded warmth and grace and was kind to give me tips on local spots to eat, get manicures, and more. Chatting with her felt like talking to someone I'd known for a long time rather than someone I'd just met. I definitely recommend her and look forward to my next visit at Mariposa Salon! read more

I wish I had read jj o's review below. I've never left a negative review at any salon. But, I feel the need to warn others based on my opinion of this experience. I came to this salon six months ago with fine grown out dirty blonde hair (no box dye, just a bit brassy) seeking an ashy bright balayage with natural colored roots. I was told everything I wanted to hear by the stylist. The stylist did a bleach process and then began putting in the color when she turned it *NEON* PURPLE. No, not over-toned, it was fantasy manic panic looking purple. I work in a setting where I can't have purple hair and was horrified. She was unable to get the purple out after different attempts and finally she and the owner stated my hair would need to re-bleached. At this time, the initial stylist told me they would fix it and I would not be charged. My fine hair is not made for a Kim K double bleach process in the span of a few hours, but I didn't have a choice because I had to work the next day and could not go in with neon purple in my hair. After spending around six hours at the salon, I had horrible at-home bleach bath looking destroyed hair with a toner thrown in it. No dimension. Just bleach and toner. And... the worst part... I was charged hundreds of dollars for it as if they had provided me with a balayage! After, I might add, I was told by the first stylist I would not be charged. I just paid it without a word because I was so uncomfortable, upset, and eager to leave: it was the worst salon experience of my life. Six months later, despite all the olaplaex and masks in the world, my hair is still greatly damaged and hard to brush even with detangler. Please if you care about your hair, even remotely, don't make the same mistake I did in coming here. I wish I could turn back time. read more

Hair. It grows. Then you gotta cut it. Some people like to skimp on this part of self care, but not me. I've only got a few more years before it and I start to part ways, so I don't mind paying a little extra to look nice. First, I'll say the service is always top notch. Everything from the check in process to the haircut run smoothly. The staff and stylists are polite and fun. They offer you water, coffee, or wine (and I think champagne once) -- I realize this has become common at many salons but it's still worth mentioning (and their coffee is better than other places too). I've had a number of stylists cut my hair, and I hate to play favorites because they're all great, but I think Taj has been the best. They've all been amazing so don't be worried if you want to just do a walk-in. As far as pricing is concerned, you're charged based on the number of years experience your stylist has. So prices vary. In general, Mariposa Salon may run you a little more than normal for a men's haircut, but it's worth it. And you know what, so are you! read more

Found this place while walking to Lilly's Cafe. The wall is not a wall so you can see everyone getting their hairs done and having a wonderful time getting pampered while you're walking down the street. I've been in dire need for a trim/style and like most people, thinking of trying a new stylist gives me serious heart palpitations. You know what I'm talking about? Clammy palms, anxiety induced short breaths, and the rumbling in your head, screaming for you to remember why you have such a large collection of hats. I ignored all that and walked right in, thinking if there's a seat open the universe is telling me, yeah, it's meant to be. There wasn't a seat available until 3:30. My inner voice was telling me to run. Haul ass! Move! I booked the 3:30 appointment and walked out. Yeah, you know where this is leading. I was 50/50 on whether or not I should just crawl into a dark corner and call to cancel that appointment instead of walking back in with my head held high to say, "I'm sorry, can I cancel that appointment? I don't feel very courageous to try a new stylist today." 3:10. I walked in and took a seat to wait my turn. The laughter, warm smiles, and all the happy women in the salon should have put me at ease. Nope. I'm stubborn as hell. Tried to distract my anxiety with some social media, which lead me to: hashtag badhaircut. #fail Then came Taj. She's an angel disguised as a human. Winner personality, gorgeous smile, fun conversationalist, and most important of all, creatively talented with scissors and clippers. My hair looks out of this world amazing!! Taj put me at ease while asking me what I wanted and then giving me suggestions of what would work or not. And then she worked magic. I floated out feeling like a gazillion bucks. Underwhelming and over priced. This place came highly recommended and while the location is nice and the staff friendly, I was charged $125+ for a haircut that I hated(and still do). Brenda did my cut and she definitely did not know what to do with my hair. She loaded it up with product which I didn't like, the cut was terrible and the style was terrible. I was scared to get it cut more but I did ask her to change the style which she was happy to redo and she was nice about it.... but at that price you should know what to do with hair no matter the length/texture. I could not wait to get home and wash all the funk out of my hair and style it myself. At that price, That should not be happening. I called last minute to get a tape extension fixed and was amazed at how quick they could accommodate me, and how super friendly every single person I interacted with was. My stylist (Madeline assisted by Zoe) was knowledgeable, service was great, and the end result had me feeling like a new person. It's rare to find such amazing service and quality so easily.
