I really do love this place. First off, it's gorgeous and secondly, my skin always look a million times better after leaving. I always go to Lidia. Not only is she good at what she does but she really wants you to look beautiful. Yes, you will have some marks from extractions for the next few days but Lidia gave me a medicated concealer to use while I was healing and you wouldn't even know I had the marks. It works amazingly! Dorina is literally changing my life, one facial at a time. I was so overwhelmed by the amount of spas in NYC that I had no clue which to decide, but Maris Dusan is one of the very few (if not only) that has all 5 stars and a significant amount of reviews. I called two days before and they had no problem taking me for a facial even though my appointment would go on after the salon was closed because of my work schedule. They were so accommodating and didn't mind staying late for me, which as a first time customer, was a great surprise. Dorina and I had a consultation and she suggested a HydroFacial because I told her I was mostly focused on extractions. I thought the price was super reasonable (a little over $200), considering the area the salon is in. Dorina was so funny and never once pushed any product on me and I absolutely loved that. I personally get very uncomfortable with an esthetician pushes products on me too much. She had genuine conversations with me and it never felt contrived or superficial. I mentioned to her that this was my first facial in years, as I've had horrible experiences in the past. Dorina has completely changed my mind, I'm so devoted to getting facials with only her now. The facial itself was relaxing and she doesn't mess around with extractions and is so thorough. She gave me a great massage and did little things to boost collagen and relieve stress at pressure points. I wasn't red at all afterwards. There was about a week where my skin had to heal from the intense extractions but that's to be expected and afterwards it looked dewy and clear. I already have my next facial scheduled with her. Just one facial with Dorina will improve your skin way more than going to those insanely overpriced, factory-type spas. My skin has become very sensitive and acne prone since last april or so, regular visits to the dermatologist clinical facials medications, ointments, fragrance free products nothing seemed to help. Out of desperation and frustration I googled and found this spa and OMG,my skin has cleared and looks healthy, the extractions are painful and I do have slight bruising sort of marks (just for few days) only on the spots where I had huge pimples but its all worth it as after that my skin glows and is so soft. I have not used any medicated products since I started my facial with Dorina ( she is very gentle and comforting) in Nov and I have just gone twice and my skin feels so much better, I now look fwd to my visits.The place itself is very cosy and inviting. If you need a serious acne facial Maris Dusan is the only way to go. I am acne prone and get extremely clogged pores. I had an amazing facialist in LA but when I moved to NYC my face was struggling. I tried SO many places- small spas, facial boutiques, dermatologists and the big spas- red door and bliss. Thankfully I found Maris Dusan and go every month even though I live downtown. Nothing comes close. This place is clean, relaxing and most importantly all the estheticians are extremely well trained and will clear your skin. The extractions obviously hurt like hell and the facials are pricey but it's worth it. They do an amazing job and don't stop until your whole face is cleared- never rushing or skimping like at other transactional spas. Ask for Alina! I should have written this review a long time ago! I originally went to Maris Dusan last summer for a facial because I found a deal on Gilt City, and I have been coming back ever since. I have acne prone skin and tried everything from medications to creams. I started getting facials a few years ago, but I was going mostly to inexpensive places that didn't really do a good job (although I tried other expensive places as well but they didn't do a good job either, and definitely not worth the money). Some technicians were so rough on my skin that they actually made it worse or gave me scars! After trying an oral acne medication that made me feel horrible, I decided to try getting a facial again. I'm eternally thankful that I found Alina, who has done an amazing job with my skin. She is extremely thorough with extractions, gentle, and patient. She knows exactly what needs to be done and is very skilled. The creams and products she uses are extremely high quality, and I leave with my skin actually glowing! And as a bonus, Alina is super friendly and fun. The prices are pretty steep, but honestly it's 100% worth it. The owner Lidia is incredibly knowledgable, meticulous, generous and skillful and gave me the most thorough extractions I have ever received in a spa. I was hoping to have a positive experience here after all of the positive reviews but I was really dissatisfied with my facial at Maris Dusan. My aesthetician used a needle for my extractions and poked and prodded an existing pimple, which created a large scab on my face. She also used hydrogen peroxide on my face after and it completely dried my skin out, creating another scab under my nose. Both scabs lasted a week and I don't even have sensitive skin. My mom and I went here today with our gilt city vouchers and had a lovely experience. The cosmetologist extracted so much out of my face but did not leave it looking blotchy and red and gross! She was incredibly thorough with the extractions and told me what I should and should not be doing in my daily regimen. First off, I was treated like a regular or even veteran client even though my first appointment was from Gilt City and discounted. Iolanda was amazing, nonjudgmental and caring (and didn't push products at all, I had to ask on my second visit what she suggested). I have been working with her since and my skin is unbelievably better. Friends have noticed and asked what I'm doing or simply people have been saying I look amazing which I attribute to the skin or the confidence I have from having better skin. I just went to Maris Dusan for the first time through a Gilt City voucher and highly recommend it. I had the 75 minute oxygen facial with Dorina. I've only had a handful of facials before, and I just wanted to refresh and treat myself for the new year. I showed up 30 minutes early and they took me in right away. Dorina was extremely professional, experienced, and sweet. She was super thorough, took her time, and even did some extra little stuff that she thought I would like/needed. She never once pushed a product or service. She realized I didn't want to talk much so she only spoke when she needed to which made it a very relaxing experience. My skin looked refreshed and healthy. I was very happy with the entire service. The other woman who worked there were also very friendly and sweet. It was a very beautiful and relaxing atmosphere. Best facial I've ever had. I have been getting facials for over 15 years, and my two-year experience with Dorina at Maris Dusan has been the best for my complexion, by far. I have acne-prone skin and have tried creams, cortisone injections and other fluff facials. Dorina, however, got to the root of my problem with her precise and thorough extractions. My skin needed to be cleared out (of bacteria/blackheads/and hormonal cystic acne), and the only way to do so was to buck up and allow her to get after my face with extractions every six weeks. My skin has never looked better. Over the course of multiple treatments, you would never know I have adult acne because my skin is glowing and smooth. (Oh, and the most amazing part, is that if I have a pimple or two pop up that are bugging me, she will see me in between appointments for free!) She is amazing. Worth every penny and I will be a continuing client even when I move to the burbs. read more
