This place wa as so lively! Their menus are only in Spanish so brush up before you go. They have a constant source of Mariachis, other singers, people selling flowers, etc. that come through. They sing then bring their can around to collect money as patrons are eating. It was kind of cute when the first set of singers came through, but by the time the fourth set came through it didn't feel exciting. I didn't like the fact that I was eating and being constantly asked to go into my wallet and pull out money. I was trying to eat! I suppose I was unaware of the culture of the restaurant and relaxed a bit. Just know if you go to this place you'll be paying for more than your meal. They literally will wait for you to opened your wallet and give them money. I don't think I liked that part. Now, to the food. They serve you shrimp soup in Styrofoam cups. It's the whole shrimp so you have eyes, antennae and all. Gulp! It was spicy yet very tasty. I had to move the unfortunate full bodied shrimp from my cup to enjoy the soup. We ordered the shrimp cake as an appetizer. I show a photo of one cut in half. It was very tasty and again spicy. Each table has a basket of thick saltine crackers that went well with the soup. My entree was garlic shrimp with butter rice and a salad with avocado and tomato. Everything was delicious! I will definitely visit this place again because the service was fast. Thank goodness I found this restaurant on Yelp! I traveled pretty far but it was BEYOND worth it. I am not too familiar with Mexican seafood but this restaurant turned me into a huge fan. I had the seafood served in a pineapple with melted chz on top. It was phenomenal. I am not sure what they do with that crab or lobster salad but I left wanting more! The ceviche was super fishy to the point i didn't even want to eat it. The langostinos didn't have much flavor. Everything seemed bland and blah. I understand prices are going up due to cost of food. Terrible food. Restaurant could use a cleaning. They also need to buy new dishes. They are all made of very old plastic. My sister ordered the breaded shrimp- the picture says it all. We were a group of 7 people. Everyone had a problem with their food. None of the shrimp was cleaned. When we asked about this, the waitress said that we have to ask for them to clean it before they made the food?? What?? There was a "Jaiba" aka fake/processed imitation crab coleslaw that was slathered all over the real salad. Gross. No one ate it. I would never come here again. Shrimp Tacos where pretty good. Service was nice and very friendly. Side note: Menu is entirely in Spanish. The staff is helpful if you can't read it though. I decided to go to Mariscos for lunch on a Friday afternoon. I'd read good things about it on a local food discussion group, so I figured why not? This outpost of Mariscos (which also has El Abulo y Yo in its name), is on a busy, industrial stretch of Kedzie at 38th St. The interior of the restaurant is bright from the abundant natural light which streams in courtesy of the corner location. Each table is adorned with a surprisingly large assortment of good hot sauces (El Yucateco, Tamazula, Salsa Huichol, Valentina, Tapatio, etc.). When you are seated, you'll be given a small plastic cup with a tasty shrimp consomme. The menu given to me by the server seemed to be geared toward the dinner crowd. I ordered a tostada topped with s generous portion of shrimp ceviche. It was tasty and was a bargain at only $2.50. While I prefer a little more acid to my ceviche, they did provide a bowl of fresh limes which I took immediate advantage of. I had read about their fish tacos, but saw no trace of them on the menu. The server said that it would be no problem to prepare them (at about $2.00 each). The fish was piping hot and fantastic, served on corn tortillas. They clearly know how to prepare seafood here. Based on the food, I would give Mariscos a solid 4 stars, especially considering the relatively low price. Note: the standard dinner items may be less of a deal, as it would be hard to find an entree under $13 here. Alas, the service I was given could best be described as supreme indifference. Upon completing my meal, I had to wait 5 minutes or so for her to make eye contact with me long enough to take away my plate and another 10 minutes before she allowed me to request the check. And this was in a lunch service with only one other table occupied. I don't take to being willfully ignored gladly, so I won't be making a return visit. Still, I certainly won't disparage the food at all. It was very tasty. read more

All great but my favorite is the sarandeados. They give you a cup of seafood broth upon arriving, amazing to cure any hangover! They have a great assortment of Mexican hot sauces. It's a really small place but it's BEYOND clean. The kitchen is in full view so you can see everything that's going on , which I can appreciate. Service is awesome , with all the waitresses being super attentive. Food is delicious, really recommend Camarones sarandeados. I always get their Shrimp Cocktail and it never fails me, it is always delicious, my husband has tried a few other plates and he has not be disappointed yet. From what I've read I would suggest if your not familiar with Mexican food you should ask questions when ordering and if your picky make sure you get it how you want it. Checked this place out because the family was in the mood for seafood. The place has two sides, with an entrance in the corner and one on the side of 34th. The food was pretty good. I recommend the piña rellena or the stuffed pineapple. It's a stuffed pineapple with fish, shrimp, octopus, and topped off with melted cheese. One will suffice for two people but if you are in an appetite for more just enjoy the whole thing. Treat yo'self! The downside were the excessive solicitors. I understand that it's helping the neighborhood performers, and people but they were trying to sell cookies and flowers. This place is ok, the Ceviche wasn't good. The shrimp were very chewy and it didn't have a lot of flavor. The ceviche was just spicy and not flavorful at all! We had the shrimp with garlic and the shrimp has the "vain" and wasn't clean. Overall the flavor of the two dishes wasn't good. The ceviche de pescado is everything I expected, great flavor, love the taste of lemon. The sopa de camarones was also delicious. The shrimp are huge and have an awesome flavor. The place is super clean and the waitress was super friendly.
