Great food, warm service, literally! I stopped in at El Capitan in Yuba City for seafood and was pleasantly surprised. The food was so good! I had the best chile relleno I've ever had in my life. Everything was flavorful, fresh, and well-priced. The drinks were on point too, they make a really good mimosa, which isn't always easy to find at a seafood place. The only downside was how hot it was inside it didn't seem like they had air conditioning, so it got pretty warm while eating. Still, the food was worth it. I'd definitely go back, maybe just not on a 100-degree day! read more

This place is a local hidden gem. The food is delicious and our waitress was friendly and attentive. I love their seafood here. I had the shrimp a la Kora and it was so delicious and full of flavor and big portions. The home made tortillas are amazing . The mimosas I had were good and I enjoyed the Tajín on the rim :) Also the vibes in the place are welcoming and I loved the music they had playing. Excellent surprise find in Yuba City! Thank you, Yelp for steering me in the right direction once again. I was in the mood for shrimp tacos and Mariscos El Capitan popped up loud and clear. The decor is utterly charming! Seaside white and blue abound with beach touches like model ships, sand and shell shadow box tables and anchors. Super super clean look and feel. I had one breaded shrimp taco and one garlic shrimp taco. Wow! Both were amazing...generous portions and spot on with accompaniments. Kudos to M.E.C. For offering s green salad as side option in place of the ubiquitous rice and beans. Everyone I encountered was super friendly. Rarely ever give 5 stars. This place is located in an unassuming strip mall with pleasant but kitsch decore. But don't let any of that fool you! This affordable local hot spot is world class. The food was clean tasting, bright, balanced and inventive while still being classic, amazingly original, while still being traditional AND unexpected. The complimentary fish/salas and chips appetizer lets you know you are in for a treat. There were touches of carrot, generous amount of fresh lime, and just a perfect hint of dices crisp peppers in the appetizer. We add the guacamole and were in heaven. The Spanish rice tastes like it was cooked with chicken broth not just water, the beans are rich and delicately laced with smoke, possibly from being slow cooked with ham hock. The fish is bright with citrusy bursts of lime. The sauces complex be they over shrimp (peeled and/or non peeled your choice!) or a chili Relleno. The orange juice is fresh squeezed the beers cold and the drinks other guests were ordering (we didn't have any adult beverages) looked like we were missing out. Surprisingly delicious!! I play a the fair ever year here and I always wanted to come in but seem to talk my self out of it every time. I Took the wife and kids here today and got some tacos and some seafood and it was absolutely amazing. Don't judge this place by the ascetics, they will not disappoint. read more

Came here for lunch today and it was pretty dang tasty. The inside was clean although some of the tables were closed for repair....but they were not needed as plenty other tables available. The staff was friendly. Our first waitress did not speak much English and we did not speak much Spanish so she got another waitress to help...totally understand. The only downside was the chips weren't great but the salsa that came with it was really good it was almost like a crab salad vs a tomato salsa. Now they good stuff we ordered a six piece shrimp empanda it had a good amount of cheese and shrimp and it came with a mayo chipotle and verde dipping sauces. These empandas were amazing, good sized and you can tell were homemade not from the freezer. I got shrimp/fish mixed ceviche and it was fresh and well seasoned. I also got a few fresh flour tortillas because I read they were homemade...they were thin but fluffy and oh soo good. The man got the seafood tower which easily could of fed two (I should of skipped the ceviche and just shared that). All of the seafood was well seasoned, fresh and beautifully plated. Now that this is on our radar we will be back. Also gives me a chance to work on my very poor Spanish. read more

Due to how small yuba city is makes sense why this restaurant is considering the best of the city . Unfortunately to my honest opinion you can get better quality anywhere else in Sacramento and all over the bay area. Now on the other side of customer service it is horrible. We order a main plate not a botana we ask for tortillas and they said that their main dishes don't come with tortillas because it's not caldo or menudo. So unprofessional and rude if they wanted to charge me extra for tortillas that could've been an option. Definitely never coming here ever again when we are in yuba . read more

We walked in for lunch and were seated right away. Our server, Elly, was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. I had the shrimp ceviche loaded with shrimp and my husband had the seafood tower and taco asada (with lots of beef). We also enjoyed the shrimp empanadas as an appetizers which were delicious. My family wanted to try a different place for mariscos since the one on Colusa hwy is super salty now. Well, we decided to try this place and we were extremely disappointed. I called to place my order and they were very sweet and helpful. The only thing I didn't like was towards the end of the phone call I asked for my total and she couldn't give me an answer. Okay, not a big deal. I ordered a plate of camarones y pulpo a la cora and the pulpo was pretty burnt. It was supposed to come with a salad but it was literally two pieces of cucumber and not even a handful of lettuce or whatever else they put in their salad. The beans, rice and shrimp were good though. We also ordered some shrimp cocktails. Med size were not worth it. Just get the large if you decide to come here. We bought 1 large and 3 meds. They were flavorless lol EXTREMELY disappointed. I had to add so much tapatío and ketchup so I could eat and enjoy it. The shrimp in the cocktail were also a little bit overcooked. The agua de horchata was flavorless too. We did not like it at all. The only thing we liked were the shrimp empanadas and the dipping sauce for it. All in all, this is the last time we come here. It's not worth the price and how the dishes are made. They either need a new cook or teach the one they have. Extremely disappointed. read more
