The kitchen closes right after 8:30, so be careful! Didn't realize they closed at 9:00 so when a friend said he wanted to meet here at 8:30, I said that was fine. I got there and as I was looking at the menu a lady asked if I wanted anything. I said I'm just waiting for my friend to get here and looking at the menu, she said that was fine; 2 minutes later as my friend is parking and I've decided what I want, she says I'm sorry the kitchen is closed now. Why wouldn't you tell someone your kitchen is about to close in 2 mins?! Very disappointed by the service and experience. I ended up having to go to a nearby establishment and not having a lot of options in what I was originally looking for. The ambiance isn't that great either, but I'm him being generous and giving him two stars since I didn't actually get to try any of the food. read more

Great spot I was introduced to this weekend! First and foremost, our server, Abigail, was awesome. I liked this place so much I came the following day, Labor Day, just to have their huevos con chorizo and their delicious michelada one more time. Not to mention their salsa, whether it be the one that comes with their chips or the habanero offered upon request, made the meal that much better. There are also specials almost every day of the week. This is definitely a must-try, especially on the weekend for brunch with there being a DJ . It's a vibe, for sure. read more

My friend and I went here over the hype on Instagram. We arrived to an empty restaurant for some brunch. Which is good in a way. No waiting! We got one foought of mimosas and the taste was good. We both ordered the chula-wuiles. I would say this is a good amount for two people, so if you're not big on eating so early I would suggest one per couple and a little appetizer. The review is based on the food. 1/3 was edible. The enchilada/crispy taco plate had a long black wavy hair in it. My husband picked it up and tossed it before I could take a photo. I was mad because I needed the picture to send to DoorDash. The Jaiva tostada tasted old like it's been sitting on room temp. I'm pretty sure it should be cold. Came in on a Friday evening. There was no wait time for a party of three. There is seating inside and outside and we chose to sit inside. The host and servers here were very friendly and attentive. Our party ordered chicken tacos, Al pastor tacos, asada plate, and chicken strips. The food came out within around 10-15 mins after we ordered which was pretty fast. Unfortunately the asada was thin and dry also not well seasoned. The tacos were good, no complaints about those. The chicken strips were not cooked right. I'm not sure if it was batter from the fried coating but it was very doughy and slimy inside.. unfortunately we won't be coming back. read more

Mariscos and music sign me up. Came for brunch on a Saturday afternoon and the place was lively. Clean and charming restaurant. The dj was playing all the hits at just the right decibels. The drinks are wine based but solid. Amazing Michelada's and daily food specials. The service was friendly and fast. Our waitress Aby was very helpful Loved their patio. I'm in the middle for this place. Good food & drinks, service in the middle. We came for happy hour. Our first waitress was new & clearly didn't know how everything worked. Two of us did the Yelp check in (check in & get a free michelada w| the purchase of a tostada) and each got a tostada. She said it was fine for us to do but when our new server came she said no one per table. There's no fine print that says that and we were already told yes. That was kind of annoying. We also got happy hour mango micheladas they came with slices of mango. When we ordered them from our new server they did not come with them so we asked. She said, "they don't come with mango" but we literally just had some that did so we told her. She responded that it depends on who makes them then said you just got the happy hour micheladas so they don't come with them. We were there forever and got to see it get busy. Our server defiantly got overwhelmed. The mango tostada was bomb! They do have a great happy hour. I'd be back for. $6 mango micheladas, $5 micheladas, $3 margaritas. Even the food had specials. I went to Mariscos La Chula today for lunch and absolutely loved everything about it! The chilaquiles were amazing and the papitas con chorizo were so good--full of flavor and perfectly cooked. The restaurant itself is beautiful, with vibrant colors and a really nice atmosphere that makes the whole experience even better. The music was on point too and added such a fun vibe while dining. Service was a 10/10. Our waitress, Abigail, was incredibly friendly, kind, and welcoming. She truly makes you feel like you've known her for years. Super attentive and just has such a warm personality that made the experience even more enjoyable. We also had café de olla, which Abigail kindly recommended-and it was delicious! I always come here with family, friends and coworkers. Lately service has been off. We weren't offered salsa and chips (when we we have always been offered). We asked for some and waiter stated that's only if you ordered the guacamole & chips. When ordered I feel almost rushed because of the rudeness of the waitress. At the moment of paying (almost $400 tab) , she automatically grabbed her phone and was on it, instead of handing me my receipt after paying. I grabbed my receipt myself as she was still on the cash register on her phone. I've always raved about this place to everyone, and have not minded the price. I recently visited La Chula in Downey, and unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. Despite the restaurant's decent 4.1 rating, the customer service was subpar. Upon arriving, I wasn't greeted or acknowledged by anyone, which made me feel like I was invisible. It was frustrating waiting for someone to even make eye contact, let alone offer a friendly welcome. Once seated, the service was slow, and it took forever for someone to come to take my order. I do want to mention that being that there was 2 parties/seperate tables with the same name as yours did cause quite a bit of confusion. I was never informed by your table or by you first hand that you were celebrating a birthday, however birthday or not all customers are important. I work the karaoke list with much fairness because I want to make sure everyone is fairly given the opportunity to sing their song, and be able to comeback around and give everyone fair turns. The process I follow in anyway has anything to do with tips or no tips, I am proudly very happy to service everyone with respect and fairness. I believe your frustration came about when one of the customers from the other birthday table was singing and mid way her song she decided to pass the microphone to her friend whom had just sang 2 people prior to the person that changed her mind. Please be adviced that the restaraunt nor myself can control the fact that someone changes their mind midway her song and lets her friend sing whom had just sang. Although it may look like it gives that person a turn back to back I cannot control that the person singing chooses to not finish the song and I cannot control who he/she chooses to finish the song. I do want to add that I kept updating you and your table of where you stood in the list, I did also inform you that although you had the turn to sing 2 songs fairly quick in the beginning of your arrival, as the night progressed more and more customers sign up and the wait time does prolong for everyone, that too is something I cannot control. That same night I had customers on the list waiting more than 1 hour that never got to sing once. I would really like to help in making sure nobody ever feels treated unfairly, but to be able to do that fairly and successfully, as a customer you also have to provide all the information on both ends truthfully so I can work with my manager in bettering our service. In your review you failed to mention how you came at me disrespectfully, verbally addressing yourself to me with foul language, calling me out that I was skipping you and I was only letting others sing because they are my friends. Which is not the case. I kept in contact with you and your table as a caring employee to update you on where you all stood on the list, I downloaded the song you requested for your newly wed couple that were part of your party. After you sang them the song you came and apologized and blessed me with a tip, which I am very grateful for, that is why I'm very confused with your review. The drinks are good as well, although they can get expensive because they don't offer any drink specials. However, the karaoke experience was extremely frustrating and, quite frankly, unfair. It was very obvious that there is preferential treatment given to regulars and to people who tip more. Singers who had signed up earlier were being skipped while others were being called up simply because they were tipping the karaoke host. That is NOT how a karaoke rotation should work. If people are signing up to sing, the rotation should be based on who signed up first--not who is willing to tip the most money or who happens to be a regular. Everyone paying to be there should be treated equally. It's especially disappointing when you come specifically to celebrate your birthday and are looking forward to participating in the karaoke, only to be repeatedly passed over. There's nothing wrong with accepting tips, but tips should NEVER determine who gets priority over someone who has already been waiting their turn. It makes the experience feel less like a fun, welcoming place and more like a "pay to play" situation. The food and atmosphere have potential, but the favoritism with karaoke really left a bad taste in my mouth. I hope management takes this feedback seriously because customers shouldn't have to spend extra money just to receive fair treatment.
