Mom wanted MORE! LOL You would think that a woman who lives within an island chain, surrounded by water and fish/seafood of all types, has enough of it. Nah, when she landed for her birthday visit she said "I want more of that red snapper from that place..." After some digging about, I realized "that place" was this. No surprise, the food, particularly the red snapper, was great! It was just as before, well-seasoned, good portions and worth the price. The service was also excellent which is always a plus. I pass this place all the time on my way to the gym and have been planning to try it out for a while. We love Mexican food and we just did 3 trips to Mexico in 9 months. I've read all the great reviews and wanted to see for myself if this was really a taste of Mexico! When we first arrived there were several people waiting in the foyer, but they must have been a part of one big party because we got seated in less than 5 minutes and they were still waiting. We looked at the menu and were pleased to see that they had both the Spanish and English descriptions. I ordered the shrimp ceviche as an appetizer and she asked if I wanted it raw (cooked in lime juice) or steamed. I went with raw, which is what I usually order. These came out still really pale and slightly chewy, so it threw me off at first. I initially didn't care for them but gave them a couple of bites and found the flavor was actually really good. Then for our entrees we went with the shrimp skewers and the whole fried red snapper. Both were EXCELLENT! Great flavor, perfectly cooked, and aggressive but not over seasoned. The shrimp skewers had a perfect char on them and then they came with grilled onions, peppers, and pineapple. The pineapple was the best part of the dish. The smokiness from the grill mixed with the sweetness of the pineapple was amazing. The fish was really flavorful and moist, and the flavors of everything really took me back to Mexico. If you're in the area (and even if you aren't), I highly suggest making your way to try this hidden gem. I'll definitely be back to get another taste of Mexico soon! read more

I went to Mariscos on a Friday night and as you can see from my picture they were quite busy! However, we didn't have to wait very long to be seated. The room was alive with families and parties of 5 and up all laughing and communing with each other. Amongst all the laughter and chatter there was also a mariachi band playing which I thought was a nice authentic touch. To start, we ordered drinks and a cluster of crab legs; We were enjoying the mariachi band play when a ceviche tostado was placed in front of us. Apparently everyone gets one as an appetizer along with a basket of chips and salsa! The tostado was fresh and the drinks were strong and beautifully decorated. The crab legs were well seasoned but also came with two sauces, one was butter based and the other had onions and a bit more spice to it. My friend is Hispanic and I noticed that the waitress took our orders through her in Spanish. Most of the people in the restaurant were Hispanic so I think she felt comfortable taking the order in Spanish. We both ordered the Pina Rey as our main entrees; which was a melody of seafood placed in a pineapple bowl that was accompanied with a small side of rice, fry's, and bread. It was all so good! Came here with my family on a Friday and it was absolutely LIT! They had a live mariachi band who play in the middle of the restaurant but will move around for tip/by request. My family of 5 ordered: A dozen oysters, A super combo (crab leg, shrimp, shrimpx2) Rey pina (pineapple rice) And 4 alcoholic beverages. Side of bread. This cost us $246 Gratuity included. The service was pretty phenomenal. Most of the employees speak minimal English but they make it work. We were seated after 15 minutes of arriving, Free tuna appetizer brought out immediately, Drinks were delivered after 13 minutes of ordering, And food within 25 minutes of ordering even though they were packed to capacity. Everything was great! House sauce was delicious and addicting, really good dip for the baguette they have. Hands got pretty messy though, I wish they had gloves. But they do offer hand towelettes. The mojito was delicious. The $22 battered shrimp plate, camarones al gusto, was a joke. So overcooked I couldn't differentiate the crusty shrimp from the crusty batter. Comes with a side of frozen fries, a few pieces of lettuce and onion, and two bites of rice. It also took about 20 minutes longer to come out than the other meals at the table, I wouldn't doubt the shrimp were in the fryer the entire time. The insulting overpriced meal combined with the stifling heat inside the place, crowds toppling over each other to get to the bar area and bathroom, and the TWO DIFFERENT mariachi bands tag teaming and dragging their stuff around the already congested area.. not my jam. It's times like these I feel bad that I am so honest but this is what Yelp is for. This restaurant seems really nice. The interior is quite large which I was not expecting. It seems great for families w/ or without kids, and single people as well at the bar area. I sat at the bar which was almost full. I could see a mariachi band waiting around for their time to play I guess. Upon sitting down you are immediately served free apps. A tostada with what tasted of tuna in a nice ceviche type sauce lightly mixed in and then chopped tomatoes and cucumbers. Very nice taste and it was better than my actual meal. I ordered the small portion of ceviche with shrimp and grilled octopus. The plate feeds a good 3-4 people for an appetizer so I had to take the rest home. It was very dry and didn't taste fresh to order and more like frozen. The lady at the bar asked me how the dish was and I told her it was dry. She wasn't sure what to say back and sounded like she was asking me if I like or am familiar with Mexican style places but with her accent I couldn't make it out. She didn't offer to fix it. What a shame... I had to order a side of guacamole just to make it not so dry. At the end I asked if the seafood was frozen and she said yes which I already knew just had to confirm. Like a trip to Puerto Vallarta. I wish you could smell this food and hear the Mariachis. It's so atmospheric. Service is friendly and helpful. For instance, I asked for a refill on my water, and the waitress brought a glass so big I could stick my head in, with a side of a big laugh. If you like octopus, order the pulpo al ajo. A giant platter of grilled octopus, cut into bite size pieces, and sauteed in garlic butter. It's not on the menu, but insist. It is sublime. It comes with rice, great fries, and useless salad. We added a little salt and a couple squeezes of lime to the octopus and tossed it with some of the rice, to absorb the sauce. So good... We also had the bacon wrapped shrimp, which was great, with giant shrimp, but we left some so we could focus on the octopus. The meal starts with a crab tostada, which is complimentary and comes as soon as you sit down. It's good, but I wish it were any other kind of ceviche. The food wasn't bad, but I felt like an unwanted gringo is this exclusively Mexican seafood restaurant. Menus all in Spanish; no English menus available. The waitress couldn't speak any English. Difficult to find an interpreter. I was leery of the seafood (I prefer seafood, that doesn't look like the entire animal, head and all intact.) So I ordered steak, as I knew the Spanish word, it came with a photo, and the price was reasonable. My "mistake" was asking for it rare. If someone just said they can't make it rare, it would be OK. Maybe I would have ordered something else. It was simply asking that created the problem, as the waitress had no idea what I was asking. I ended up asking two other people who spoke English, and finally told our waitress in Spanish having used Google translator. For all the confusion the steak came out well-done. Someone told me the cook didn't understand. Yet the steak was surprisingly good, and the atmosphere was so authentic one would have thought they were in Mexico and not just outside Atlanta. When the check came, I was charged an extra $5 for my steak. I finally got a menu I showed I was overcharged. Finally someone who spoke English "explained" they had to raise their prices, and didn't change the price on the menu. The menu was expensive to print, I'm sure, but I felt I shouldn't be charged more than the price printed on the menu. I was told if I wasn't happy I could talk to the manager. Talk to the manager?! I wasn't even able to find out if I could get a rare steak talking to three different people on their staff. I said forget it. It wasn't worth going through a scene for $5. I strongly suspect I was a victim of reverse discrimination and regular Hispanic patrons paid less than an older white male who didn't pay enough attention in his high school Spanish class. read more

The price is amazing for how much seafood you get! I ordered the shrimp ceviche on the crunchy tortilla as well as the mixed seafood on the crunchy tortilla, both pictured in the photos I will add. The shrimp tortilla was $5 and mixed was $6. They came topped with so much seafood I got full off of 2. There are quite a few pictures but not every dish has a photo so the waitress being able to explain is more than helpful. 2. They have this piña colada in a real pineapple that is to die for... ah may zing! It's $13 and it sneaks up on you. It's extremely large as well. I walked out with mine and finished it at home. 3. I originally ordered the fried red snapper but once I tasted another dish I traded! It isnt like most of the other Mexican restaurants I've been to before. The dish I had was served in a halved, hollowed out pineapple, stuffed with various types of seafood with sweet pineapple chunks and covered with melted cheese. It was incredible! The presentation and the portions are awesome. It was a lovely Spring afternoon, we sat outside, had a wonderful lunch, enjoyed our delicious margaritas as well as the live music. Im not a sea food person. My husband is. He ordered the fish soup and i got the mixed fajitas. My husband says that the soup got 7/10 and for me the fajitas got 10/10. The orchata is 9/10. Was good. I had a craving for ceviche and after a quick Yelp search this place came up and I decided to try it out. The place is big and nicely decorated. Although it's a seafood based Mexican restaurant it doesn't smell fishy at all. I was quickly greeted at the door and had a seat at the bar. Someone brought out a taste of their signature ceviche with is tuna. It was delicious! The menu is extensive and includes lots of different seafood dishes. This place is like taking a mini vacation to Mexico. People are friendly, assume you speak spanish, food is incredible, prices are fair for the amount of food you get, and the ambience (mariachi band) is wonderful. This is NOT typical Mexican food, so don't come in expecting tacos or enchiladas... this place is all things fish... GLORIOUS fish. For starters, they give you what I believe was a crab tostada with OMFG HOT sauce. Like... move you to tears out of pain sauce. Like, I dipped the tip of my chip and wanted to die, hot. In all fairness, our server did warn us. I can't attest to the tostada as it had raw onion on it, and I'm one of those people with a freakishly rare allergy to them... but my husband said it was pretty good. We ordered: Piña colada en su piña natural (with alcohol)... it was one of the best piña coladas I've ever had, but you may want to ask for them to double up on the rum. Mine was pretty faint in the booze department. Presentation is gorgeous (a whole pineapple complete with a mini parasol). Pacifico beer.... one of my favorite Mexican beers. They do NOT have Sol though. El Filet Rey: Perfectly cooked filet of fish topped with shrimp, crab, octopus, bell peppers, onions and cheese. When I say perfectly cooked, I mean melt in your mouth, you-could-gum-this-if-you-had-no-teeth type of perfectly cooked. Flavor was excellent, the accompaniments were no let down either... the rice was actually more like a sticky rice than the tex-mex crap rice we are accustomed to... fries were crispy and slightly spicy, the small "salad" on the plate was fresh and crunchy, and the delicious garlic bread on a slice of baguette was a beautiful touch. Piña Rey: HAMIGAWD I WANT THIS EVERY DAY. We were gluttonous... overinduldgent even. This is a half a pineapple hollowed out, on a plate, stuffed with crab, scallops, shrimp, octopus... all perfectly cooked and drenched in a mushroom cream sauce with chunks of (not overly sweet) pineapple which is then covered in bubbly cheese. Mix it with the aforementioned rice, and this is possibly what orgasms are made of. To top off our uncomfortably full dinner, a very sweet violinist from the mariachi band came by, super apologetic for interrupting our meal, asking (in spanish) if we'd like them to play a song. They didn't know Chan Chan by Buena Vista Social Club, but we happily forked over 20.00 to hear them play Granada. I was trained in opera, and let me just tell you that their singer does NOT belong in a restaurant, singing for cash. This guy is so talented that he puts Placido Domingo to shame. The accompanying musicians are equally as good... making 20 a massive bargain to have world class musicians serenade you with a song of your choice. The restaurant was clean, cool, and had plenty of tvs playing soccer (or futbol to everyone else in the world). Service was super friendly, albeit relaxed, so don't expect to get in and out quickly. I don't think our server spoke much english, which wasn't an issue for us as I speak Spanish well enough, but it may be for others. The manager's English was impeccable though, so don't let the potential language barrier run you off. I love this place with all of my other-culture-craving heart. It turned a spontaneous dinner date into one of the most fun date nights we've had in a LONG while. read more

I ordered the pina rey which was a pineapple struggle with shrimp, imitation crab, squid, mushrooms, green and red peppers with cheese. I definitely think if it was less cheese the flavors would pop more, but it was an interesting concept. My husband order a shrimp plate and we both received the same rice, salad, and French fries along with a piece of garlic bread. Okay so we felt the sides didn't go well with our main entree. This is one of those places that you want to keep a secret. It is inconspicuously located in a strip mall, is authentic and the food will blow you away. I did not expect the goodness that is Mariscos La Riviera Nayarit. It was phenomenal. On a Friday night, the place was packed with majority Latino families. The menu was completely in Spanish but there are pictures (yay for pictures) and some of the servers spoke English. They start you off with their ceviche which was delicious. The habanero salsa that accompanies it is SPICY. We ordered the pina rey, crab legs and shrimp. The Pina Rey is a hollowed out pineapple with a variety of seafood covered in a creamy mushroom sauce. Yum. BUT...hands down. Get the crab legs. They were large, juicy, fresh, scrumptious...need I go on? I haven't had crab legs this good in years. The traditional sauce was amaze balls. It was slightly spicy, very buttery and sop-it-up-with-your-bread good good good. Tip of the day: if you are going order any of the seafood platters.. do NOT wear anything nice. Although the sauce was delicious, it did not go as well with my nice maroon blouse. The one major complaint I have is regarding the music. Although some may prefer the live mariachi band, I personally found it very difficult to have any sort of conversation without yelling. If you don't like seafood, then don't come here.
