Oysters were big and flavorful (liked the sauce they provided), wish they were a bit more cooled (with ice), but definitely recommend. The seafood combo was awesome as well, you get a big ship (attention to detail the container is heated) that has two big lobster tails, one crab, a red snapper, some shrimp and some octopus. Oh the octopus was fantastic, smoky and soft. Shrimp and lobster were also very good. Crab was meh, not very fresh. Service was great. We were referred by one of the fisherman out here, and to say the least they did not disappoint the ceviche, aguachiles and Fish I was Chiles and fish Zarandeados was excellent. There was a little two men band walking to each table and singing some popular Spanish love songs which made the space a bit more lively. However, the waiter we had was like he was practically dead. Took forever to come and take our order, then never came back again after dropping off the food. We tried waving him down for the check so many times and eventually got the attention of another waiter. It was a big restaurant, but he could have came by to check on us at least once. We happened to drive by this place off of the main strip after dinner elsewhere. We ate here the next night and it did not disappoint. We had excellent service. I asked the server what the best dishes were on the menu and he made three recommendations. I went with one, which was the whole red snapper that came with white rice and vegetables on a separate plate because it would not fit on the huge tray that had my butterflies snapper on it. I don't know how it was prepared but it was bursting with flavorful spices and had a grilled taste. It was a little crispy on the outside but so moist and flaky on the inside. My husband really wanted octopus and asked the server to explain the difference in the three ways they serve it and ordered the one the server recommended, which was a whole grilled octopus. My husband said it was cooked perfectly and he thoroughly enjoyed every bite. My daughter ordered the combination steak and chicken fajitas served with white rice and beans. She ate everything on her plate so it must have been great! My husband had a Chelsea with Modelo beer, I had the Jamaica tea (hibiscus). Both drinks were good. Love this place! It's very unassuming but don't let that stop you. Top food places to eat in Cabo, if I can say so myself. Food: Aguachiles was the best I've ever had. It is spicy, but the flavor is amazing. It's a good size so share, if you love aguachiles this is a must try! Chicken Fajita is also good, a good option for the less adventurous eaters, flavor was good. Comes with rice, beans and corn tortillas. My guest ordered crab (not sure menu name), said it was very good and great portion. Drink: Pina Colada was great. I had three and only stopped because I was full. They are a great size. My favorite meal during my recent trip to Cabo, we liked it so much we ate there twice. My first visit made a lasting impression and we ordered a lot: -clams -oysters -shrimp ceviche -aguachile -grilled blue crab with garlic -fried fish -shrimp combo (breaded, coconut, grilled, etc) -fish tacos Everything tasted fresh especially the clams and oysters. The clams were my absolute favorite, with the aguachile, shrimp ceviche, fried fish, and blue crab close behind. I can't recall what type of fish the fried fish was, but it was large in size, fried and crispy on the outside, soft and hot inside, and perfect to share. Everything had a lot of flavor and freshness. The fish tacos are made with flour tortillas. The service was friendly from our server and he was patient with all of our requests and questions. They offer many different hot sauces which we enjoyed. We ordered plenty and had leftovers although we had 8 people. We came the following night and ordered more oysters, aguachile, shrimp, blue crab, and squid. This time it was 16 of us. They did not have the fried fish. They served us a large fish but I think it was grilled. Unfortunately, they didn't have anymore clams. Service wasn't as friendly on this night, but they successfully served a large party and the food was all good. The establishment itself is very spacious with many tables and was clean. This was the first place we dined at on arrival in Cabo. It came recommended by the concierge at the villa we were staying at. The ambiance was really nice, open to the outside but still had the indoor feel. It is great for groups as we had a group of 11 and were seated immediately. The servers were really good at explaining what everything was and made suggestions to us (especially since nobody in our group spoke good Spanish). They served complimentary tortilla chips and salsa as well as like soda crackers and some kind of creamy dipping sauce for them. I ordered a Margarita (when in Mexico!!) and a shrimp quesadilla. OK... first of all, the food there tastes so different than in any Mexican restaurant I've ever been to in the US - in a good way. That quesadilla was SO GOOD!!! Upon entering the colorfully painted restaurant we were greeted at the door, taken to a table for four, and given our menu. The first thing that became apparent was the affordability of the items on the menu. The Mexican peso is roughly valued at 20 pesos per U.S. dollar; roughly one peso equals a nickel, so we purchased several appetizers including ceviche, pico de gio, and creamy homemade guacamole as well as the traditional house salsa with light, crispy, white corn tortilla chips sprinkled with sea salt. All of these items were unique in their own way but also had a common theme among them: they were all served chilled, raw, and extremely fresh, exploding with flavor and freshness. I had never eaten raw shrimp ceviche, but the firm yet tender texture of the shrimp popped under the bite of my tooth and the juices of the raw shrimp cooked in the acids of the tangy lime, cilantro, crispy onion, celery, and seasalt were extremely addictive, and I instantly fell in love with the dish. The crisp cracker-like tostadas that came with the dish created a salty contrast to the cool, naturally sweet ingredients of the appetizers. This portion of the meal was unforgettable, but only served as a prelude to what was to come with the main course. we had not really sought out a restaurant on our journey about Cabo due to any overwhelming hunger; we simply wanted to experience the region through its diverse and unique foods. We soon achieved this goal. While we were seated waiting for our server to take our order, we continually saw one specific item pass by our table enroute to other customers in the restaurant: a large platter containing a reddish earthen terracotta-type of charcoal grill contraption that I had never seen before. As these items passed by our table, you could feel the warmth radiating from them: the pottery of the device containing the warmth of the burning coals yet allowing the aroma of the roasting seafood, the mixture of peppers, onions, and other vegetables sizzling in the butter and garlic, to escape into the restaurant's atmosphere. The smell and sizzling sounds emitted from that clay device were absolutely intoxicating. This charcoal-filled dome of delights represented everything that we had been seeking on our quest for the seafood of the Pacific and the Sea of Cortez, a taste of the region's fare. "We will have what they are having" is what we told our server. What they were having was a combination of charbroiled seafood that had just been caught that morning and delivered to the restaurant to be prepared. A combination of shrimp, lobster, and blue crab filled the plate on top of the terracotta grill, but the absolute stars of the show were the charcoal broiled octopus with its bits of blackened, slightly crispy tentacles and the firm, buttery Chilean sea bass. We had died and gone to heaven. Both of these items were like the firmest, most succulent piece of king crab meat that I had ever eaten, only better and for a fraction of the cost. They were absolutely decadent. We continued to gorge ourselves on this buttery feast. Many would say that the most complete way to experience a culture is by eating the food of that culture. Not to overstate this, but the deletable meal that we had at the Mazatlan Restaurant that afternoon was literally life changing. read more
