This was a little treasure. It had been a few years since pre-Covid that I've been here. My guests and I both ordered the enchiladas hers with beef mine with cheese. The enchilada was absolutely stuffed with cheese. It was so tasty. Refried beans were extra special. I didn't have the rice because the beans are enough for me. Small side salad accompanied both plates just enough and a terrific dressing. My guest totally enjoy the beef enchiladas and we split a cold Corona! There's lots of seating outside, and a fair amount of seats in the interior. Very friendly staff. Brought the family here and tried a bunch of things. The kids enjoyed their fried fish and shrimp kids meals. They would've benefited from some kind of sauce and a side other than just rice. The chicken chimichanga was good, though it literally just had chicken in it. The sauce on the side was amazing. The mariscada dish was good, though it came with a lot of octopus, which was not listed in the dish description. Knowing that, I would not have ordered it; I'm just not a fan. After grabbing awesome coffee at Acme I looked up a place for a breakfast burrito. We found Mariscos Puerto Nuevo! So happy we did! Friendly staff, quaint little dining area. Now the food..Wow! Chorizo Burrito is so good. The salsa had a nice kick and the guacamole was as good as I've ever had. Creamy avocado fresh delicious. Seriously tastes like Mexico!! The staff is the sweetest, patiently answering our questions while providing fast service. We came around 6pm and the majority of tables were already filled, but a wait quickly formed shortly after. They were BUSYYY, and rightfully so! I can see why it got so packed, the micheladas and seafood were bomb. Loved my entree: camarones a la diabla (deviled shrimp). Well, I was told that I could order a smaller portion but it wasn't that much cheaper. The ranchero sauce was perfect. Not too thin and not too thick. Nice blend of spices: not too hot and not too mild. I had it with horchata. That was also perfect. Wonderfully blended with no little bits at the bottom when I finished. If I were being picky, I might go with four stars. I prefer thinner chips and the restaurant was a little chillier than I preferred. Fortunately, I was pleased with the food I ordered. Just a tip: I got there a little after five. There were a couple other tables occupied and I pretty much had my pick of the restaurant. We have been making Mariscos Puerto Nuevo a habit every time we're in the Monterey area. We have been here with friends for lunch as well as for breakfast. Food is always fresh and so tasty! On our most recent visit, I went berserk ordering. Our morning feast included a steaming, hot bowl of menudo (weekends only), machaca (eggs with shredded beef) with rice and retried beans accompaniments, and a mug of champorrado. The menudo was served with a small bowl of cilantro and chopped onions so you can customize your soup to your liking. Don't forget the tortilla chips and red salsa. We loved everything! When you are in Monterey, it's hard to find a place to eat that is also good in price. If you drive into the town of Seaside, there is a great place for Mexican seafood. They have many Mexican dishes like plates of Carne asada, quesadillas,.. but their specialty is seafood. Chips and salsa are always served first. I love the garlic shrimp. The shrimps are fresh with hints of garlic and olive oil. For about 16.50, it comes with tortillas, salad, French fries, and rice. Great fast and quick service. Plenty of street parking. First off, the salsa tasted like it was scooped straight from the bottom of a dumpster--sour and questionable. They tried to charge me enough to feed a small village, and when I questioned it, the waiter acted like he couldn't understand a word of English. Convenient, right? After a lengthy argument, they finally "fixed" the bill, but the whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth--literally and figuratively. Short Version: Delicious authentic (non-tourist trap) Mexican food. We'd stayed in Seaside for a short vacation and hoped to find some great food along the way. This place absolutely hit the mark. We ordered a cheese quesadilla, several burritos (pollo asado, veg, and bean / cheese), some guac, salsa, and chips. All of it was excellent. The quesadilla was made with a generous portion of cheese and came with guac and sour cream. The guacamole was excellent, chips crisp with the right amount of salt, and salas ranged from mild to spicy. The burritos were all delicious and devoured immediately. The order was about $45 for everything. I got to see the inside when I went to pick up our order. The restaurant is as authentic a Mexican restaurant as I've ever seen - and judging by how busy they were on a weekday evening, clearly a local favorite too. I also loved the levanta muertos which was the seafood cocktail that included shrimp, octopus, oysters, and other seafood. This place is AMAZING!! The seafood dishes are on point. We had the aguachiles, fish tostada and the octopus tostada, all of which tasted fresh like the ocean! So much flavor and acidity, but in a beautifully balanced way. The kids had the carnitas plate but honestly i feel like it could feed a family of 4 or two hungry adults. All the portions are huge so order appropriately. For example, you can easily have one tostada as a meal. We came back for breakfast the following day. Both the chorizo breakfast burrito and the nopales breakfast burrito were delish! They serve chips and salsa with all meals - including breakfast. We got take out both times, but you can eat outside with wait service. However, even with takeout you get all the sauces, tortillas, salsas. We essentially got a large box filled with all our food. All in all a great place in the Monteray/Carmel area. Will be back on our next trip to the central coast! read more
