I'm about to become an official tenant tomorrow, but wanted to share my experience so far. I had a 4:30 appointment to see the unit I was interested in. I wound up on East Dexter instead of West. Already late I called the agent John back because he had already called me to see if I was on my way. There was no answer and after figuring out where I went wrong I tried him one more time and he answered and said he showed the unit to one person and waited for a bit and figured I must have changed my mind. He said if I could be there in 5 minutes he would come back, which he did. I liked what I saw and got the applications from him. That left a good impression on me. Arcelli was in contact with me a few times during the application process and as she reminded me at one point was really working with me to get this application done. My son's job didn't return their call to verify his employment and they were about to do an alternate verification but my son's supervisor finally gave us a direct number so that they could do the verification. I had a bankruptcy discharged 3 years ago and it didn't come up, so there might be more to other's reviews. Getting to the signing my son and I have completely different schedules and the staff has been accomodating and flexible. My application originally stated February 15 as a move in date and they didn't hold me to that when we had these dealaysin the process. I think as one other stated that there is always two sides to a story and so far I've found this company to be more than willing to work with me. read more

This company is unfair and unprofessional. I wouldn't recommend this service to anyone who is looking to rent. Don't waste your time. Website states in order to submit an application you need to see the unit first. But this individual did the opposite. Filled an application first then saw the unit. My family and I rented a unit managed by Mark Anderson for six years. I'm surprised to see the negative reviews. There were a couple times where the response was a bit slower than expected, but generally, they were responsive, fixed our issues, and we didn't get charged. I believe the name of the game in the rental space is to use as cheap a solution as possible to get as maximum a return as possible, which is fine. They went up on our rent once, I believe, and it was $25 or so. They were the property management company this new and growing family needed in this period of our lives. We have recently purchased a home and will be vacating this property; however, in reflection, my wife and I are incredibly grateful for this company. read more

I rented from Mark Andersen for 3 years and it was the worst experience I have ever been through. They blamed 50 year old plumbing and pipes on their constant plumbing problems. They have no courtesy or respect for their tenants. On two separate occasions, me, my newborn daughter and my husband were put in a hotel for over 3 days at a time (with very minimum compensation) because they failed to properly repair anything. They raised the rent by 3x in less than two years. Even after raising the rent, they failed to hire the proper people to get the job done the first time. They would rather take shortcuts and have to fix things 4 and 5 times and then blame the problems on their tenants in the end. We had mold in our apartment that would make me and my daughter sick constantly and when we brought this up to property management their response was that "the building is old" and that this was "apartment living" and "this is just how it goes." I was disrespected by Lauren (the "property manager") and also Stephanie, a lazy receptionist at their Covina office. Real bush league operation. The people answering the phone are perfectly polite and equally useless. Among other red flags, I was told not to pay attention to ads on rent.com, apartment.com, etc. because they "have no control" over those posts (which I doubt sincerely). OK.. so how does it work? They told me to check their website and ... lo and behold, 2/3 of the units I was interested were not actually available. Hmm.. so what does this "company" actually do? In an even more distressing turn of events, I asked whether I'd be able to apply and place a deposit if I found a suitable unit of theirs to retain it. I was told all applications are collected and they review them for the "most qualified" (richest) candidate. YET --- somehow the viewing I had scheduled for the next day was canceled because it was rented out before I saw it. Not only is this a tenant-hostile practice to begin with, but it is not even evenly applied. read more

They return my calls ASAP and keep me up to date on the current rents that properties are receiving. read more

!DO NOT RENT FROM MARK ANDERSEN & ASSOCIATES! This Management Company is very unprofessional, rude, and caters more to the Owners (making sure they're happy and satisfied) rather to the paying tenants! I rented a townhouse from this joke-of-a-company and found several things that was wrong with the property within the first 1-2weeks of moving in. Of course, I documented, called and took plenty pictures, but they were not very accommodating to fix much. I created on-line maintenance requests only to be ignored until I started calling.... Next, the carpet throughout was noticeably worn and filthy, yet I was told that it had been "recently" shampooed/cleaned only to discover post cards from the previous cleaning company reminding that the carpet was over a year overdue for a cleaning. Secondly, the back sliding door was broken, window blinds to the oversized kitchen window that leads to the backyard were broken (eventually to be removed since they would not replace them-reasoning was that window blinds are not required- really?!?) Also, they gave me two sets of garage remotes; but only one worked and I was told they would not be replacing it, AND questioned why I needed two! Additionally, one of the Property Managers (Tami in particular) is purely rude to the point where she gets argumentative through emails and conversations. Finally, I was given a 60-day Notice only to be rushed out before the 60 days. I was continuously asked "When are you moving again? The owner wants to know because she needs to schedule her movers and has closed on her house." Excuse me? Did she not remember sending me a 60-day Notice with a notice to vacate, along with her attorneys who in turn mailed a separate letter ensuring I left by that date- OR ELSE! How rude was that to send a faithful tenant an intimidating letter as if I weren't going to vacate by the date the Owner gave me. Makes you question what kind of tenants/business they are used to dealing with And Lastly, unless you're a college student or in transition, this would not be a good company to rent from because they do NOT have leases. Their rentals are month-to-month, which I will never do again! Because I was not in a lease, they increased the rent after 10 months, and during my stay I was asked to allow them to come in and do an inspection because the Owner wanted measurements in the kitchen of where her refrigerator would possibly go, AND within those 10 months, I was told to allow an inspector to come in to appraise the property- all red flags after another, after another! Needless to say, I graciously left that Owner's house and found something to my satisfaction. My new Owner is overly accommodating and wants to make sure that his tenants are happy for long term. We have excellent communication and deal directly with each other without the rudeness of Property Managers. All in all, this Mark Andersen company only cares about the needs of business; keeping their homeowners happy and collecting rent- horrible company to rent from, yet lesson learned!‍ read more

Need better customer service when speaking with tenants. When something mends fixing it's takes a while before it get done.

Mark Anderssen and Associates is a shady company. They are not reliable when it comes to making repairs. The repairs are either put off never to be done or the repairs are poorly done and left messy. My front door handle broke and I called several times to get it repaired or replaced. That never happened. I went nearly a year unable to close and or lock my front screen door. My towel rack in the bathroom needed to be remounted because the anchor was loose. Their repair was shoving paper in the drywall to support the anchor. Lazy and frustrating. But that isn't the worst part of them. They are strictly out to screw you. I was charged $445 because I did not give 30 day notice that I was moving. I gave 2 weeks and was not told I'd be penalized. I may as well have stayed the whole month but I figured the quicker I moved out the quicker they could remodel and rent it out for way more than I was being charged previously. All in all, don't trust them, they are gonna get your money and not fix anything you need fixed properly or in a reasonable time. When we first moved in we were told various things about parking. We were able to park infront of the garage because we were the front house in a duplex. Well the front house had the garage and the back duplex was allowed a small space in front of the garage that wasn't convenient but we made do. After a while the back tenant would call to complain to the office management about us, well they mostly sided with her because they didn't want to deal with her. After a while of me emailing and not getting any response I found it it was because Tami was not there. So the new person Erica was understanding but had her hands tied because the back tenant was threading to sue. I would say stay away from properties that are duplex's because one person will get more attention than the other. Btw this was a rental property in Ontario. Don't go based off what the showing agent tells you! Confirm with office this was our mistake! read more

It's a proven that it was never just one person leaving this "place" unhappy. Went above and beyond to apply for a property walked to the bank to pay the credit fees. Next day bright and early the thing that answers the phone states it's been rented already" wait so you didn't even run my credit after I go through all the trouble to email additional documents to your office for you to not even put me in consideration as a potential tenant? Girl say's that "Araceli will refund-us" went through a great deal of calls and emails just to be refunded. Head ache, burdensome, be prepared to be put on a wild goose chase. I am completely upset about the treatment my fiancé and i received from Mark Andersen property management. The staff I came in contact with led me and my fiancé to believe we had a strong chance at the house we planned on renting. We jumped through the necessary hoops in a timely manner. Each time we spoke with araceli she was rude to both of us. Very poor phone etiquette as well as poor professionalism. I understand being turned down for my lack of credit due to my past. (Which we were told past bankruptcy did not matter) although I understand that part .we currently pay 2400 the asking rent of the place we are trying to rent is 1715 we have never been late on our rent and we did a way more extensive background check. Will never recommend people to rent from them again. The first few months they were very on top of any problems we had. After that empty promises. The house i was renting started flooding in the back rooms and threw sliding glass doors when ever it rained even a little, they said they would bring sand bags that was their solution to my problem. They didn't bring the sand bags for 3 weeks!! The master bathroom started to have Water coming up from the floor whenever it rained bathroom would get an inch of water, they never came to repair. Called multiple times about Windows frames and door frames being eaten away by termites they never came. I lived there for over 2 years ... The property was sold and i nwas given 60 days. I went into their office to schedule a final walk thru for my move out. I was told i didn't need one cause the house was being sold. That i just needed to clean and shampoo carpets. We cleaned and shampooed carpets and they only gave me $600 of my $2200 deposit. They charged me to remove the sand bags they brought 3 weeks late. They charged me for carpet cleaning!!! They charged me to remove a tv remote left in a closet and they charged me to replace a termite door and many other ridiculous things. Don't waste your time. I provided them everything drove all the way to San Dimas too provided everything to be considered and to qualified for the apartment. This was Friday at 4:10 they told my husband for us to call first thing in the a.m. on Monday to check the status of the application. My husband called monday morning bright n early just for them to tell him that the apartment has been rented already. So we provided everything they asked for and they didn't even bother to run our credit to see if we where potential candidates. Bs if u ask me. So we request a refund for the credit check (another headache) let's see how long they take to refund our money. Seriously don't waste your time. I saw a rental ad and called the office to find out if it's still available and wanted to arrange for showing. The lady receiving the call told me the agent would be showing the apartment from 2:30pm. I asked from 2:30pm until what time, she said the agent would be there. So I asked for the agent's phone number. She said she took my number down and the agent would call in case he runs late. I got to the apartment by 3pm that afternoon but I didn't see anyone showing any unit. I called the rental number but no one picked up. Understandable, it was a Saturday. I wandered on and off the property until a lady who's living there noticed me and pointed the rental unit out, told me to peek through the window. She said the agent already left. Fortunately, I didn't like the unit. My question is, why isn't there a set time frame for showing that you can announce to the potential clients first. If you had my number, why didn't you call to see if I'm on my way? I've been to showings for sale and for rent, I don't think the industry standard for showing is less than half and hour. read more

I received the most terrible and extremely rude service from 'Tammy' after moving out of one of their rental properties in W. Covina. I called in to question some of the charges they applied to my deposit and Tammy quickly got defensive and said I was being, and I quote, 'accusive' (is that even a word?). Anyway, this company deducted from my deposit having to put the burners back on the stove because we put them in the dishwasher to dry after we washed them, having to put batteries in the smoke detector(s), and walk the trash out to the front to name a few. She went on and even began raising her voice as if I was being accusive (lol), and she replied with 'thats how i talk' when i asked her not to raise her voice. I went as far as apologizing for upsetting her! Overall, terrible customer service experience. Do not hire them if you are looking a positive experience. read more

So since they have two yelp pages and this one has the most reviews, I'll leave mine here. If renting from this company is your last and only choice I understand, otherwise exercise ALL options first. Termites in spare bathroom. Dim to dark lighting in kitchen amongst broken paneling. Awful pull string blinds. No carbon monoxide detector for over a year. Multiple electric outlets not working. These were our continuous complaints. But when we moved out less than half of our security deposit returned. Starting rent 3yr ago $1500. New rent for new tenant, it's posted $1900. But here's the kicker... Neighbor two doors down was given 60 day notice to vacate November 1st. This family had been there 30 years, paid rent on time every time. Similar problems to my apartment and worse. Continuously notifies property management, nothing done. Reason for notice according to management was renovation of apartment. So they kicked a family of 5 out for renovations when they were notified, phone call, online portal and in writing of problems. Since they'd been there longer than I have they paid lower rent. Real reason they got kicked out, new rent control laws. Do your research. Don't give Mark Andersen a penny if you can avoid it. read more

This company managed the property that we have rented for four years. I had to call them if there was a problem with the property. Small things that went wrong with the property were no problem. However, if it was a big problem I.e. a pocket door that went off its rail, a leaking sink, or an air conditioner that started working poorly in extreme heat... they would start to blame you for the problem. They never fixed the door and eventually, I stopped calling about it. The sink was finally fixed when a washer was changed. But, the air conditioner took three weeks to get fixed. It was obvious that they didn't care that it was 85° in our house. They sent out technicians that were very rude and blamed us for the problem. I was patient for two weeks but when I started yelling at them... they treated me like I was crazy or something. Then they dropped us. For four years they came out and inspected the property and even sent us letters of praise at how well we were taking care of the place. We were never late with the rent either. But when there is a problem they blame the renter. I do not recommend this company. read more

Has Mark Andersen and Associates managed a rental property for my husband and I. I experienced nothing but rudeness from Tami and Lauren. My tenant had no air conditioning for a month until they got their act together and followed up with the piece of crap air conditioning company Advance Plumbing Heating and Air Conditioning Inc. Do yourself a favor steer clear from these two. When Tami finally called me to authorize the work on my new central air conditioning unit she wanted a quick response because they'd already sat on their butts for a month during the hottest August I can remember. She wanted me to authorize a replacement of the duct work, addition of dampers and a attic fan for a unit that was not cooling at all. The cost $2,974.91 plus a very cheap $495.52 for the said attic fan. ON A FOUR YEAR OLD unit. I said no! The unit is new and should be under warranty (mind you they only preauthorized the cost because it was so much, if not they'd have gone ahead and had the work done. I called the Tenant after Tami was so rude not to return my call, first question I had for him was when was the last time you changed the filter? He said hummm whhhaat filter? I said well obviously the air filter to the air conditioning unit. Yeah the management company that rented them the house NEVER informed them that hey had to change the filter. So two and a half years later the filter is so clogged up that zero air was going up the air intake to the unit! This cause the unit to heat to approximately 600 degrees which blew the intake metal hose to install the Freon into the unit so the unit was run on zero Freon. But this idiotic Advanced Plumbing Heating and Air Conditioning Inc. didn't bother to ask about the air filter, they didn't bother to check the air filter, they didn't bother to check the compressor for Freon on a unit that was not cooling, no they wanted to make a whopper of a sale of duct work, dampers and attic fan. I even wonder how much of a kickback Mark Andersen was going to get from this deal as immediately upon telling them I would take care of this and leaving a message with Lauren that the wait time my tenant had had to wait was not acceptable. They decided that we had different ideas of what they should be doing for me and terminated my contract! Thank heavens for small favors in all the replacement of the pipe, labor and Freon cost $795.00 and the unit is back to working perfectly. And I did spend the $3,470.48 on a unit that is only four years old! I can't help but think if these people had gotten away with this senseless repair I'd be out that money and more because the unit would still not be working. Please do your due diligence, go elsewhere these people are horrendous! read more

We are current tenants with Mark Andersen & Associates, and have been for little over a year now. I'm writing this review because our experience has been nothing but phenomenal. Regardless of the interaction, whether it be by phone, walk-in or email, we've always been treated with respect and kindness before, during and after the application process as well as during routine maintenance issues with our home. The contractors they are affiliated with are equally extraordinary. PLEASE DON'T COME HERE. It is a total rip off. I saw an apartment in Baldwin park and the agent told me that this property management team DID NOT, let me repeat that, DID NOT mainly focus on credit but more on your monthly income to make sure you can afford the rent. He also mentioned that the office does not worry about credit when they run the application. So I paid $80 (mind you the application was $70) to apply for the apartment because the agent told me the credit wasn't a main source and reassured me that my monthly income was to be focused at more. I call back the company 3 business days later and the rude girl on the phone let's me know that my application was denied because of my CREDIT. Total rip off for the application fee. If I would have known the credit mattered just as much as the income I would have never spent my money, gas, and go out of my way to apply. Oh and that's not all. When I called and asked if I can at least get my extra $10 I left because I only had 20's to pay for the $70 application fee the rude girl on the phone had the nerve to say, " Well I don't know if they will because IT'S ONLY $10." Stepped into this office to turn in my application. There's three useless girls sitting in the front, that dont greet you as you walk in. Just stare!!!!! Its like high school all over again. As she was reviewing my application, she was laughing at it. UNPROFESSIONAL AND RUDE! I thought this company being as big as it was, would hire a friendly and caring office staff. Guess not! I am a current tenant at a property run by this company. I had an incident last night with the emergency person. My husband works nights and came home to find a car parked in our designated parking spot. U need a parking pass to park on the street over night. So we called the emergency line and left a message. No one returned our call so we call the tow company and it didn't work because a manager had to call. Then we called the police station and nothing could be done. So an hour later I call again. The woman answers the phone and says she got my message. She continued with her rude unprofessional attitude saying I shouldn't be waking her and her family up, that it wasn't an emergency, that I should have parking passes (u have to purchase) on hand for when this happens, and she said she there was nothing she could do. Then she corrected herself and said there was nothing she would do and that it was my problem. I was extremely furious!!!!! They will be receiving my letter regarding this issue. read more

I thought they were all nice and sweet when I was about to rent from them. Unfortunately, it wasn't til I moved out that the headache began. I had a pre and post inspection done, but that didn't keep Tammie from taking half of my deposit for paint patches that were there when I moved in. She was so rude as soon as she got on the phone when I called to question the charges. I have never been so uncomfortable speaking to someone. I addressed her tone and she stated that that's how she speaks. Wow. Any who, I called back later to speak to someone else. Aracely, was wonderful. Soft spoken and understanding. She actually took the time to listen to me instead of just assuming I was lying. She had me fax over all my proof and by the end of the day she had apologized for THEIR mistake. A few days later the rest of my deposit arrived in the mail. Hey Tammie, if that's how you speak to humans, you should reconsider your job. You were so rude to me....even though you were in wrong. Not only will your phone calls be met with rude contempt but they will be sure to take all that they can financially from those ignorant enough to rent from them. After their property roof leaked onto our couch, destroying it, they fixed the roof and proceeded to raise the rent. The tack strip was coming up in so many places on the carpet that every member of my family bled from it. It ultimately left my son with a huge, unsightly scar on his knee. We asked numerous times for the carpet to be fixed to no avail. On top of all of that, we were given 60 days to vacate (because the owner planned to sell) with a promise of compensation for quick leave of the property. Not only did they refuse to pay us when we vacated 2 weeks early, they gouged us for over half of our deposit, charging for removal of items that were at the property previous to our arrival. We had cleaned thoroughly and left the backyard in better condition than it was when we arrived. We even removed many old buckets of paint at our own expense that were also there upon our arrival. They charged us for repainting, though we had lived there for over two years as well as window caulking, fixtures and blinds. All normal wear and tear items. Window caulking for crying out loud! They stole my expensive white board that was forgotten by my husband. Horrible, horrible people. No remorse, no heart. If I could leave no stars I would because our experience with Mark Andersen was nothing but unpleasant. The apartment we were looking to rent was not even nice very badly taken care of on the outside area.They seems to be picky when it comes to potential candidates and if so they should be picky on who they hire as a staff because they are are rude & unhelpful.i was never able to reach and speak to Araceli, the person who was suppose review our application. As one of the girls in the office said "she is very busy right now" after I had left her several voice mails and never got a call back. They didn't even get back to us before already selling the apartment we waited almost a week for a response and I was the one to make every single call to check on our application status. Overall, they aren't welcoming at all they make it seem more like they are doing us a favor and make you feel less. Poor communication on the staffs behalf. In my case their office staff does not much knowledge on the property they are renting or the status of your application. Mark and Andersen need to really get it together. I think this company has a favoritism. I been checking their website every single day to get the newest information. And I finally found the place I'm interested in. I waited for almost a month to apply for that room because they said I HAVE to see the place first. So I waited, then yesterday I was the first group to see the apartment and I immediately applied after I seen the place and paid for the credit check fee. the property manager said he has at least more than 20 applicants and going to show the place for a week then pick the best candidate. I called today and the girl on the phone said " it's already rent out today" ..... I was shocked especially I asked to see the place again on the same week to double check on my decision..... And I called to see if other properties are available now whatever listed on their web and they said " it's all rented out" ...... I understand they pick the candidate base on the credit but how do they know if they haven't seen all the candidates credit? I know they haven't check all the candidates credit because they haven't even run my credit ... Esp I was the first group to see the place I was interested in .... read more

I used this company years ago. They were extremely professional. Any repairs were done instantly. When I moved out my entire deposit was reimbursed in full. I never had any problems with them at all. I can see that there are a lot of negative reviews here. I am suspecting that it may very well be that the people may have something to do with the situations here! There are always two sides to every story. I'm not defending the agency, I'm merely stating that my experience over a four year relationship with them was extremely different from what I'm reading on these negative reviews. They were always on time, made prompt repairs, never were rude and made every effort to accommodate me with every request I made. I can't believe they are talking about the same people. read more

I was a tenant for about 11 months. When we were searching for apartments they were very helpful with any questions we had. We had water damage in the vanity in the bathroom and they quickly sent someone out to replace the entire vanity. I believe Katie is the one who scheduled she is very friendly and helpful! They also worked around our schedule. When it was time to turn in our 30 days notice they weren't rude at all instead congratulated us because we were close to closing escrow on our new home. I was a bit worried about the security deposit because of the short amount of time we lived there. We left the apartment just as we found it, if not better. They returned almost the entire deposit only taking for carpet cleaning which was completely fair. I would definitely recommend Mark Andersen and Associates. read more

I was in the process of looking for a house to rent and was referred to this agency. I worked with their associate Jacqueline with completing the rental forms. Only two parties were suppose to be on the lease, however they advised that everyone over 18 had to pay for a credit report. After paying 140.00 for 4 people, I got the notice two days later that I didn't get the property. All parties have good credit reports and was never declined in the past by other agencies. I truly wish the owner of the place I rent had someone else managing his properties. Or better yet, I TRULY wish Mark Andersen & Associates hired new, cordial, and professional staff. I've rented the house I live in for almost 3 years and I hardly have direct contact with the staff since I pay my rent on line. However, the very few times I've been to the office, staff are rude and disrespectful. I know there are times that we all have a bad day, but there's one person in the office that is ALWAYS on a bad day. I think it is the daughter of the owner. She is tall and heavyset. I wish I knew her name because it is necessary for the owner to know how she treats people. My first encounter with her, she was going through the application with me and I made a mistake. There are so many forms, but on one form I started signing on the wrong line. That lady literally snatched the form as I was signing and crumbled it up and walked away to get a new one. I was so embarrassed! When she returned, I apologized for my mistake. She just starred at me, but did not say anything. She just pointed to where I needed to sign, but it was obvious she was infuriated by my slip-up. I didn't get a bad impression of her at that time. I honestly thought she had a bad day and I had made it worse for her. On another encounter with her, I took my driver's license since she had already told me that they would need the new one because when I was approved to rent the house, my driver's license would expire that same month. Since she was going to make a copy for my file, I asked her if she could please make an extra copy for me since I also needed one for other reasons. I didn't think it was a big deal, but she was clearly offended by it and responded that there was a print store not too far away and that she could not make me a copy. Several months ago, I went back to the office to talk about an issue I was having in the kitchen. I had called three times to report the issue, but it was never taken care of, so I decided to go in person. As Nora, the receptionist, was writing down my information, another older man walked in and the same female staff (the one that I believe is the daughter of the business owner) walked over to the assist him. The man said smiling, "Good morning" to that staff. The female staff did not respond but just kept looking at him. The man handed her an envelope and as she was opening it, he tried to make small conversation by saying something about the weather. She completely ignored him and just asked if he needed a receipt. This lady has no people's skills. I understand we get busy, but there's no need to be rude! She doesn't acknowledge people and she is not professional in any way. Mark Andersen, please have this female staff of yours work in the back where she would not have to deal with tenants. Oh, and tenants, do not pay your rent a day late because she will call you and chew your head off even if it was your first time. I understand we need to pay the rent on time, but things do happen and there are ways to communicate certain things. She is awful!!!! read more
