My husband and I have spent upwards of $10K at Dr. Sofonio's in the past 5 or 6 years. We were offered a special to get a facial peel and facial. I had the first part. I called to make the facial part in early April with Desiree Wesson, MA. for Tuesday 4/4/23 at 12:30. I arrived to find that she didn't even work on Tuesdays. I made another appointment for today, May 17, a Wednesday when she worked for 12:30. I showed up to find that the office staff had not written the appointment in the book. MY second and final attempt to have this done made me infuriated. I was told I could make a third appointment hours from that time or come back another day. It took me almost 2 years to move forward with upper eyes, cheek & mini facelift. The day of my surgery, during the final consultation , I had added a few more things to be fixed like filler put in my smile lines and fat taken out of my chin. Dr. Sofonio is truly an artist..He didn't try to upsell me. The goal was to keep me looking natural. If I had to do it again he is the one for the job!. If anyone is looking for this type of surgery, he's got to be the best.. I live in the San Francisco Bay area. I searched far and wide, and could've choosen any surgeon.. Dr.Sofonio had the best credentials and his approach to customize a plan that just fit me...he is definitely not a one size fits all. And Wow.. I am such a scaredy-cat and I do analysis to paralysis on things like this, but I have to be honest and saying that this completely exceeded my expectations. I had an appointment with an older gentleman named Tony, I believe his name was. I cancelled my botox appointment with him in the middle of our conversation because he was so off-putting. He was very dismissive of what I was asking for and negative about the questions I was asking him. He did NOT make me feel welcomed, which is incredibly disappointing. I would like for him to be aware of how he treats his patients and understand how to make women feel comfortable and positive about themselves when they are going in for procedures. Went to Dr. Bonakdar for fillers. The fee was more than other doctors. I went back because one my folds needed to be filled fuller. Something that should have been done correctly the first time. I was charged an additional $400 for the same area. I also did not care for the way in which I was told what the fee would be. I went to Dr. Sofonio for botox because of the great pricing I had seen in his TV and print ads. $7 is a great price. As a new resident to Palm Springs, I had another very competent surgeon in Beverly Hills and my sister works for a major med spa in another state. Let's just say I am familiar with procedures, their costs and what one should anticipate in terms of results. The service was quick, painless (minimal) and Jon was an excellent injector. Anyone can provide Botox. Anyone. What separates a mediocre from an excellent practitioner is who injects the product and what techniques they use. Also someone that sees a lot of patients with excellent results is generally going to be more skillful than someone who does not. The service is quick, efficient and the results perfect. i feel and look refreshed and not so tense. I don't want to look plastic or fake or weird: perfect. I see others have posted about not being satisfied. Jon is not a warm-fuzzy guy and I have been to places where people were super friendly and huggy - but not as skilled. Frankly, skill and getting the results I want is most important to me. Another post said Jon would not give him an injection where he wanted it. I THINK THAT"S GREAT. He told me the same thing and said it was unsafe. I asked questions and received feedback and was okay with the answer. No practitioner should EVER do a procedure they feel is risky or may not get the desired result. The fact they said NO, should be respected and NOT perceived as them being a jerk. There are too many plastic surgeons who will do anything someone asks for the money and that is unprofessional. I wouldn't agree to do something if I thought the person would not be satisfied REGARDLESS if they had the procedure done 1,000 times. Finally, I received a consult on a surgical procedure and am contemplating it now. There was no high pressure. There was a request for a deposit, but which is normal and appropriate for elective surgery not covered by insurance and all doctors that I know require a deposit. I once had made a deposit and there was work conflict and I had to reschedule. Because I provided sufficient notice, they just applied the deposit to the re-scheduled procedure. No doctor's team wants to rip off your deposit. They just want you to be committed and vested in the procedure and know you're going to show up. In summary, my experience was great (I went back for a quick touch up last week before a family reunion) and I would recommend Botox from Dr. Sofonio to anyone. For other procedures, I feel comfortable with my experience as well. This is a review about a treatment i did during their November special for Juvederm for $300 back in November of 2017. I booked my appointment over the phone. The day of my appointment they couldn't find my appointment because the consultation was not with dr Sofonio but actually with another doctor that works in the office. I walk over to the private room and I'm handed a little piece of ice in a balloon to numb my lips. I've gotten my lips done before and every single office uses topical anesthesia for your lips to numb for at least 30 minutes so this was slightly off. The doctor arrives in the office and immediately leaves the room because he had to take a phone call that lasted a while. He comes back and fills in my lips quickly with juvederm without asking me a question about the shape of what I had in mind. It was painful since my lips weren't fully numb due to the ice that I rubbed all over my lips. I left with swollen lips which is normal but once the swelling went down my lips were uneven which lead me to email the office and I never got a reply back. I just went to a different med spa where the first thing the nurse asked was "who screwed up your lips?" They are now even but I honestly wouldn't recommend going to Dr Sofonio to get your lips done even if it's at a really great price. Sometimes you get what you pay for. read more

Over the last few years I have had botox injected in my face by John Poling. The first time John did it he took his time. He studied my face and had me squint my eyes and make facial expressions before he started injecting. The next few times seemed rushed but the result was satisfactory. Fast forward to Monday January 29th. I arrived a about ten mins early to the office. I signed my self in. Within 4 minutes John appeared at the door and told me to come in. I was quite pleased that I didn't have to wait long. Within 10 seconds of sitting in the chair John had stuck me with a needle and proceeded to stab me in several places. The whole procedure was over in a matter of seconds. He said "That's it" for which I interpreted to mean that I was to get up and leave right away. Five days later my right eye severely drooped to the point I could not open it. I was in complete shock. It progressively got worse. On Monday I called the office and was told to come in. I drove immediately to the office and was let in quickly as I suspect John didn't want the patients waiting to see my eye. He sat me down and basically told me that "This sometimes happens" and tough luck for me. He said it would wear off eventually. He stated that in no way was any of it his fault. I reminded him how fast and reckless he seemed when he injected me. He stated "I've done so many of these procedures that I know what I'm doing" He accepted no responsibility and said that this happens randomly once every year or so and that I was just unlucky. The experience has been a nightmare. My eye is STILL nearly closed a month later It makes it difficult to drive and work. Instead of improving my appearance, he made me look like a stroke victim. Nearly all my friends and even strangers look at me stunned and ask what happened to my eye. I do handyman work and meet with dozens of people each week. I make sure I tell them the details of my experience at THE OFFICE OF MARK SOFONIO at the hands of "John the injector" This was plain and simple negligence and malpractice on the part of the office. I will only see Doctor Bonakdar aka Dr. B. She is the best clinician in this office. It was difficult for me to find someone with the expectations I have for myself when it comes to fillers and Botox. I get compliments on my lips and fillers almost daily. Doctor B is highly experienced and takes the time to listen to me and she treats her patients as individuals, not numbers. She takes pride in her work and her injection style is superb. This was all-in-all a delightful experience. From start to finish, Dr. Sofonio was extremely professional and responsive. He spent considerable time discussing the procedure - both before and after the surgery. I had three follow-up appointments which were all very satisfying. My experience at this office has been excellent. I went to see Dr. Sofonio to perform a procedure that other doctors would not. He was knowledgeable and experienced and very sympathetic about my issue. I had many follow-up appointments, included in the price of my procedure, and he wanted to be sure I was happy. One of the Worst experiences ever. All of those advertisements you see in the paper with great prices are done by a PA who comes across like he is above you no matter what you say. I have gotten the same thing every time (Radiesse) in a spot (over 6 years now) btw... I asked for Radiesse which is indicated to excel in this particular area/spot and have had it applied in the past and he said "I don't do that in mid face" which by the way, it is clinically indicated for this area. He was almost arrogant in attitude so I left extremely disappointed. Think about it, why would you think a plastic surgeon would waste time his time with fillers? He rather do surgery and make the big bucks. So, you want to go to a PA to tell you what you need done vs asking you what you are trying to achieve? Feel free go here. He doesn't make it an even playing field to facilitate communication vs inserting his own opinion. As for the doc, didn't meet him. I wouldn't now with that PA on staff. Beware! My best friend & I just went to a consultation for our regular maintenance of Botox. Read all the horrible reviews on Yelp but we still wanted to give the $7 Botox place a chance. Waited for over an hour in the completely filled waiting room that had one television that played the doctors commercial on repeat! Annoying! Went into the room finally...where the nurse who had more paper work to fill out and then asked me what I would like done. I said I wanted to have a very natural look as I have had experience with Botox before & I didn't want too many units to start off with since I had my last injection in November. The nurse said I HAD to have 35 or more units of Botox or it was not worth it for me or her to give it to me. I asked for less than 30 units and they said that wouldn't do anything which is crazy because I have never had over 24 units at one time, EVER! I don't need more than 20 units max! I have been getting Botox long enough to know a rip off and or scam - this place was not right for me or my friend. My friend and I didn't even ask any more questions and we walked! Beware! I love the doctor, but the staff is just snarky. That is why he gets low ratings. The staff are not welcoming, from Kyle on down they bite your head off. I would rather spend my money elsewhere and get better customer service. He is nice but when your staff are rude, it hurts your business. I have had three people who have money to spend, say they will not go there because the staff are rude and unaccomodating. They act like you are just a number, and they have plenty of business and don't need you. Kyle has been rude several times and a few others have too. I just can't take it anymore.
