I am a big fan of Market Basket, in particular my two local stores- Leominster and Littleton. But I was disappointed in Leominster yesterday. When I arrived I went directly to the Fish counter and ordered 3 steamed lobster. The clerk told me 20 mins. I did my shopping and returned in 20 minutes. The clerk told me 15 mins, I look bewildered and he told me they take 45 mins. Of course 1 1/4 soft shell only take 20 mins, but oh well I waited patiently. When I got them home and we cracked them open there was only a tiny bit of meat in each. All three would not feed one person, maybe 3 oz of meat. Granted these were soft shell, but at $12.99 lbs MB should know they are selling nothing but shell. They should cook one, crack it and see it before they sell them. This is not the quality I have come to expect from Market Basket. read more

This is a great supermarket chain in the metro Boston area. You still have people actually bagging your groceries and staff is friendly and helpful a plus. This location is nice and the inside is big, you have enough room to walk around to get your grocery shop on. We came as we were on our way back home and we're able to get some new shell lobster for $6.99 a pound and steamed at no charge. They have a parking lot. read more

The only reason that it gets crowded is because demand is so high due to the incredible value they offer the consumer . I have been shopping at this Market Basket for over 30 years and you have to watch them when they ringing up your groceries, especially the sale items and when you have a lot of items. Today we purchased about 15 items 4 of the items were frozen hamburg and it's marked down because of that. This girl that rung us up didn't scan the hamburg with the mark down red sticker she just typed in the regular price at which she did on her own, knowing what she was completely doing. This is a scam because what is in it for her are they giving her some type of bonus hmmm. I'm sure if they train them all like this the company would be really making big money so be careful. I also reported it to a manager who took 15 minutes to come talk to us. read more

Place is horrible... have come home multiple times with rotten fish, the produce is garbage and they are often out of things. Literally every time I shop there it ends up being an issue. Better off driving a few extra mins and spending a couple more dollars for decent groceries. You def get what you pay for. read more

There's usually a crowd, and the floors always seem to have piles of sawdust on the floor (cleanup in aisle five!), but who really cares? If I had been active yelp reviewer when I grew up and lived in Leominster, I would most certainly have given Market Basket 1 star. I always loathed this store. It looked terribly dated, was always way too busy, and the selection for healthier item foods was dismal. Fast forward to today and I'm able to add a second star as they have just slightly upped their game. Mind you, I think this is more because they had to to compete with what is now the standard across most grocery store chains. That is, they now have at least a partial offering of healthier foods (though you have to dig for them a little bit) and they've updated the interior so that it doesn't look straight out of the 70s (maybe more like late 80s.) But still it is too busy and I much prefer Shaws or Hannaford. read more

My favorite Market Basket - because they have the best sushi! As good or better than most area restaurants, and hands down the best sushi I've found at all the Market Baskets I've visited. The sushi team is super helpful and eager to make your sushi to order if the offerings in the case aren't exactly what you want. Love the rainbow roll and ikura special! Other highlights at Market Basket are the fresh squeezed orange juice, the BEST and probably cheapest pizza in the area, made to order sandwiches and grinders, a well priced decent selection of ethnic/specialty foods, fresh well priced produce and overall about 20% cheaper across the board pricing than competition. Cons: Can get very congested. They consistently run out of some items - like big bags of Fresh Step cat litter, Friskies Pate cat food, bird seed and Daisy cottage cheese. Some of the staff (especially the old timers) are kinda grumpy and act like it's a chore to assist. Customer service is very dour and suspicious about returns - never apologize for anything. Check expiration dates! it is not uncommon to find expired items on the shelves. Bottom line - the good stuff and pricing outweigh the cons in my book, and I'm hooked on the sushi and OJ, so I'll keep shopping at this Market Basket. read more

Unless you want to be berated by the employees and a manager that supports this behavior, go somewhere else. This is the third time I have left my cart full of groceries and left. I will NEVER shop here again. Nor will my husband and all his friends and my friends. Icing on the cake when your deli employee threw my order at me because he gave me over a pound when I asked for a quarter pound. I've NEVER experienced such horrible customer service. We've shopped here for three years. Good: The prices are exceptional. Without exageration, we often save 25% by shopping here versus the other two grocery stores in our area. The produce section is frequently very good. Bad: The seafood counter is vile; the smell is nauseating. The poultry case never seems properly refrigerated. The inventory throughout the store is very erratic: one week there will be an extensive of gluten-free frozen bread, but the next week there will be nothing but pizza crusts. The decor is very distinctive: if did not go to a grocery store in the 80's, you can experience it now at Market Basket. It's an eccentric store, to be sure: but the low prices are impossible to beat in this area. read more

Always crowded, always noisy, always people in my way. The entire places smells like bad food. But... Lowest prices around, good bread and cakes from the bakery, best produce in the area (high turn-over), they're the only store that carries refrigerated white grapefruit juice, and the baggers and cashiers are always friendly. MB. Where do I begin? Oh, how I've spent such a great portion of my youth here. This place is ALWAYS ALWAYS busy. The only time it isn't busy is if there is a foot of snow outside. You can't get through the aisles, and you are going to take longer just because of how crazy busy it is. However, the prices can't be beat! If you can prepare yourself for the experience of an over crowded store then you are set. They always have the best variety of food and new items. I will say on occasion I get frustrated because the produce department won't have cilantro! Also, this Market Basket has sushi which is bomb. Probably the second best sushi in town. The staff are friendly and well trained and taught the customer is always right which they obviously aren't (most the time). I do like MB and what I can get for the price. I don't think I can adequately put my love for Market Basket into words. It is truly a fantastic shopping experience. After this past 5 weeks' board battle I'm SO excited to return this weekend! I didn't realize how much I loved it and how great it was until I had to do my shopping at Shaw's, Hannaford and Roche Bros.. My family has shopped here my whole life (22 years) and nothing about it can be beat. I want to give Market Basket a 5 because I love to support small(ish) local businesses but I can't. I used to shop there weekly but the vegetarian options are very inconsistent. There is a nice area set aside for veggie burgers and soy based products but they are never in stock. It makes it so hard to meal plan. I stuck with it for well over a year but finally had to stop shopping there. I also brought my concerns to the manager and he was not very receptive to my feedback. read more

I've shopped in the Leominster store, but usually frequent the Fitchburg store. There are something like 50 of them around the area and they are all consistent. I strongly resist going to any other supermarket because compared to MB, the prices in other stores make you feel like you're being robbed! I am serious. I have been an MB shopper for 30+ years and am appalled by the high prices in other stores. Quite simply the best grocery store in Massachusetts. The only drawback is no beer and wine because of annoying MA laws. Here is the bottom line. It will be crowded, so prepare to go to battle. This place is not for the faint of heart. But what will get is low prices, great selection, fresh produce, organic products (meats as well), and a good staff. You will save money! Every Sunday morning for 8 years included a trip to this MB for our weekly shopping. We loved it. We never encountered expired dairy products (ahem, Hannaford), the deli was always well staffed and they ALWAYS used the number system (ahem,BJ's) the Goya section was abundant, and the produce was always fresh. The second star may be a gift. I hate this store and far prefer to go to Hannaford's. The store is never clean, although it's not disgusting. There are always carts full of stock sitting in the rows so it's always difficult to maneuver. The produce is occasionally fresh, the bakery rarely is. It's fine for canned goods but I'd never buy fresh here. I ordered a sandwich at the deli last week and it looked fabulous! It was cut in half and placed so you could see the center of it. I paid $4.99 for it, took it home and went to spread mustard on. There was a glob of meat (smaller than a golf ball, larger than a marble) in the center of the bread and a slice of cheese maybe 2 inches square. The lettuce was old and slimy. I discarded the lettuce and put my own on, added a slice of tomato, spread around the meat and sliced off the excess bread. I ended up with about 1/3 of a sandwich. Not a value! read more

Market Basket is a legend in New England. The prices are at least 10+ per cent lower and the quality is assured. I always find the veggies and fruits reasonably priced. The new store allows customers to buy many things together saving time and energy. With rare exceptions the staff is ready to assist. MB gets two stars for the prices and the few staff that are friendly and helpful. MB also gets two stars for the circus like atmosphere. Instead of stocking at night they do it during business hours. The already narrow isles are filled with staff, palettes of product, and employees that are thoroughly annoyed by your existence on a consistent basis. I've shopped on days were there are no strawberries or no bananas in the entire store. Seriously?!? Their fruit and veggy section is a hot mess. The meat section is decent, but don't dare ask for assistance about a product. More attitude. The only thing crazier then a portion of the staff is the people who shop their. It's like an elderly and clueless version of Thunderdome. The shining stars are at the service desk. They're on point and super friendly. read more

This store is only getting worse! They have spent all this money to update a store that has a staff who for the most part don't care about it. The produce is usually rotten or close to it. When I asked an employee why they put squishy clementines out they told me it's not their job to check them because they are prepackaged in a wooden box. It is always crowded because the prices are low. The management seems almost non-existent in this location, the teenage staff is poorly supervised and you can almost always find a pallet of food and empty boxes taking up half of each aisle. Also not sure why there is never a male employee handling cash or a female retrieving carts, seems like they are pretty sexist to me. read more
